Rodensky | hello. what's the romanian repo server address? | 01:09 |
---|---|---|
Rodensky | (i mean the official one, not mirrors) | 01:10 |
Sysi | there propably isn't any | 01:10 |
Sysi | mirrors are the same, the only official is in usa or somewhere afaik | 01:11 |
Rodensky | there was untill a few minutes ago when i accidently deleted the address :-) | 01:11 |
Rodensky | it was something like "ftp.ubuntu.ro" or whatever | 01:11 |
Sysi | it's still a mirror.. your loco should know better | 01:12 |
Rodensky | my loco is asleep... it's 3am here :P | 01:13 |
Rodensky | (if there is one...) | 01:13 |
Sysi | so we're at the same zone then | 01:13 |
Sysi | https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archivemirrors | 01:14 |
Rodensky | we're having some problems tonight, i can't open this web page, can you please tell me the server address? | 01:16 |
Rodensky | pretty please :] | 01:17 |
xevious | So, what do you guys think my chances of this working are: I created a Live USB stick, but it's not what I want exactly... i'd like a full installation running off the USB stick. | 05:13 |
xevious | So I'm thinking if I install Xubuntu in VM, then mount the squashfs that's on the USB stick, I could rsync the VM's root FS into the squashfs. | 05:13 |
xevious | Obviously there are some files I'd have to keep intact. | 05:14 |
Unit193 | What are you looking to do? What doesn't the stick do? | 05:17 |
Unit193 | !usb | 05:17 |
ubottu | For information about installing Ubuntu from USB flash drives, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick - For a persistent live USB install, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent | 05:17 |
xevious | It's being a bit odd. All kernel updates are wonky. | 05:19 |
xevious | I wish I could just boot the installers that I've got set up on my PXE server and choose the USB stick as the target. | 05:19 |
xevious | It won't let me install the nvidia driver. | 05:20 |
xevious | I suspect that's related to the kernel updates not working. | 05:20 |
Unit193 | Did you have a look at the last link? | 05:21 |
xevious | Yeah I've read those. | 05:21 |
xevious | I've got a LiveCD image written to it with a persistent image, but it's not working quite right. | 05:22 |
xevious | Such as not being able to install the nvidia drivers. | 05:22 |
xevious | I broke it! | 05:23 |
xevious | Ha - I figured getting a customized LiveUSB up and running would be an easy temporary solution while my PXE server is being reconfigured. | 05:24 |
xevious | Whatever, I'll just deal with it until I get PXE booting back up and running. | 05:42 |
xubuntu694 | hello | 06:26 |
kamran | hello | 07:50 |
mrplow | installing daily natty right now, so far so good | 10:49 |
Sysi | great, but if you face problems support for xubuntu natty is aso at #ubuntu+1 | 10:50 |

rklapp | hello? | 20:20 |
rklapp | I have questions. Can anyone help me? | 20:23 |
TheSheep | !hi | rklapp | 20:27 |
ubottu | rklapp: Hi!, Welcome to #xubuntu! Feel free to ask questions and help people out. The channel guidelines are at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Guidelines. Enjoy your stay! | 20:27 |
rklapp | I'm using the Maverick Meerkat version. Is this the right place? | 20:33 |
TheSheep | yes | 20:33 |
rklapp | My video is stuck in low res mode. | 20:33 |
rklapp | ron@ubuntu:~$ nvidia-xconfig | 20:33 |
rklapp | Using X configuration file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf". | 20:33 |
rklapp | VALIDATION ERROR: Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf. | 20:33 |
rklapp | Undefined Device "(null)" referenced by Screen "Default | 20:33 |
rklapp | Screen". | 20:33 |
rklapp | ERROR: Unable to write to directory '/etc/X11'. | 20:33 |
Sysi | if over 2 lines, use pastebin | 20:34 |
TheSheep | you have to run it with root priviledges to allow it to write to /etc/X11 | 20:35 |
TheSheep | !sudo | rklapp | 20:35 |
Sysi | nvidia-xconfig doesn't work in ubuntu iirc and if it worked you'd need to run it with sudo | 20:35 |
ubottu | rklapp: sudo is a command to run command-line programs with superuser privileges ("root") (also see !cli). Look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo for more information. For graphical applications see !gksu (GNOME, Xfce), or !kdesudo (KDE). If you're unable to execute commands with sudo see: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/fixsudo | 20:35 |
Sysi | jockey-gtk should handle xorg.conf too | 20:35 |
rklapp | how do i run in root? | 20:36 |
TheSheep | rklapp: see hat ubottu gave you | 20:36 |
TheSheep | what* | 20:36 |
rklapp | what do you mean gave me? | 20:37 |
rklapp | I ran sudo nvidia-xconfig and it still gave me the same incomplete error but also backed up the xorg.conf file. | 20:39 |
TheSheep | rklapp: by the way, how did you install the drivers? | 20:43 |
TheSheep | rklapp: I'm pretty sure it should autodetect them | 20:43 |
rklapp | Unfortunately, it didn't or it did and didn't activate properly. I went through System - Administration - Additional Drivers. It told me that my nvidia driver was not activated so I activated. It told me to reboot so i did. I then got a Too Many connections error and went into tty mode. I'm able to get the GUI back by entering recovery mode and failsafe graphics. | 20:45 |
TheSheep | rklapp: "too many connections" error? | 20:50 |
rklapp | occurs at boot up | 20:50 |
TheSheep | http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1635278 | 20:51 |
TheSheep | like this? | 20:51 |
TheSheep | anything else in the logs? | 20:54 |
TheSheep | especially the X log | 20:54 |
rklapp | it does make a funny sound out of the speakers when I get the message. maybe a conflict between the onboard sound and my 560ti? What log are you refering to... the one in X11? | 20:56 |
rklapp | don't see an x log | 20:58 |
TheSheep | it's in /var/log/ | 20:58 |
TheSheep | called Xorg.0.log (or later number, depedning on which boot you want) | 20:59 |
Sysi | (_last_ time i had problems with nvidia because of jockey i switched to fedora) | 21:01 |
rklapp | i haven't tried the beta for linux 64bit from the nvidia website. should i try the beta driver? | 21:01 |
Sysi | can't recommend | 21:02 |
rklapp | how do i post a log? | 21:04 |
Hariharakadan | rklapp, Usually in a pastebin to keep from flooding the channel. | 21:10 |
rklapp | whats a pastebin? | 21:10 |
Hariharakadan | http://paste.ubuntu.com/ | 21:11 |
xubuntu780 | hi people! | 21:11 |
Hariharakadan | It's a place to paste large segments of text such as logs and it condenses it down to a link for others to view. | 21:11 |
rklapp | http://paste.ubuntu.com/592307/plain/ | 21:15 |
rklapp | good Lord, I have to enter a password to do anything with linux | 21:15 |
rklapp | cant find the too many connections error in the log | 21:16 |
pteague | there's several pastebin sites... including http://pastebin.com/ | 21:33 |
