=== Thermi is now known as thermi [01:09] hello. what's the romanian repo server address? [01:10] (i mean the official one, not mirrors) [01:10] there propably isn't any [01:11] mirrors are the same, the only official is in usa or somewhere afaik [01:11] there was untill a few minutes ago when i accidently deleted the address :-) [01:11] it was something like "ftp.ubuntu.ro" or whatever [01:12] it's still a mirror.. your loco should know better [01:13] my loco is asleep... it's 3am here :P [01:13] (if there is one...) [01:13] so we're at the same zone then [01:14] https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archivemirrors [01:16] we're having some problems tonight, i can't open this web page, can you please tell me the server address? [01:17] pretty please :] [05:13] So, what do you guys think my chances of this working are: I created a Live USB stick, but it's not what I want exactly... i'd like a full installation running off the USB stick. [05:13] So I'm thinking if I install Xubuntu in VM, then mount the squashfs that's on the USB stick, I could rsync the VM's root FS into the squashfs. [05:14] Obviously there are some files I'd have to keep intact. [05:17] What are you looking to do? What doesn't the stick do? [05:17] !usb [05:17] For information about installing Ubuntu from USB flash drives, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick - For a persistent live USB install, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent [05:19] It's being a bit odd. All kernel updates are wonky. [05:19] I wish I could just boot the installers that I've got set up on my PXE server and choose the USB stick as the target. [05:20] It won't let me install the nvidia driver. [05:20] I suspect that's related to the kernel updates not working. [05:21] Did you have a look at the last link? [05:21] Yeah I've read those. [05:22] I've got a LiveCD image written to it with a persistent image, but it's not working quite right. [05:22] Such as not being able to install the nvidia drivers. [05:23] I broke it! [05:24] Ha - I figured getting a customized LiveUSB up and running would be an easy temporary solution while my PXE server is being reconfigured. [05:42] Whatever, I'll just deal with it until I get PXE booting back up and running. [06:26] hello [07:50] hello [10:49] installing daily natty right now, so far so good [10:50] great, but if you face problems support for xubuntu natty is aso at #ubuntu+1 === thermi is now known as Thermi [14:21] hello [14:21] :) [14:22] guys i have pidgin i installed the pulgin but i don't see any contacts after configuring any clue?? === Thermi_ is now known as Thermi === PaulW2U is now known as G4MBY === G4MBY is now known as PaulW2U [16:13] subspider: "the plugin"? [16:33] I would like to use the printer in order to print off lists from Gnumeric [16:34] the printer is connected via COM1, my machine does detect it and allows me to install it, however I think the drive is incorrect as the printer just spits out garbage [16:35] driver* === Thermi is now known as thermi === thermi is now known as Thermi [16:53] MorphixNW, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=341621 tell me if it works :) [17:01] subspider: thank you but no it did not work [17:01] the drivers installed, however, not the one I require [17:02] does samsung provide drivers for it MorphixNW [17:04] maybe once upon a time [17:27] subspider I think the printer is obselete === emma_ is now known as em === root is now known as Guest95351 === Thermi is now known as thermi === thermi is now known as Thermi [20:20] hello? [20:23] I have questions. Can anyone help me? [20:27] !hi | rklapp [20:27] rklapp: Hi!, Welcome to #xubuntu! Feel free to ask questions and help people out. The channel guidelines are at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Guidelines. Enjoy your stay! [20:33] I'm using the Maverick Meerkat version. Is this the right place? [20:33] yes [20:33] My video is stuck in low res mode. [20:33] ron@ubuntu:~$ nvidia-xconfig [20:33] Using X configuration file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf". [20:33] VALIDATION ERROR: Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf. [20:33] Undefined Device "(null)" referenced by Screen "Default [20:33] Screen". [20:33] ERROR: Unable to write to directory '/etc/X11'. [20:34] if over 2 lines, use pastebin [20:35] you have to run it with root priviledges to allow it to write to /etc/X11 [20:35] !sudo | rklapp [20:35] nvidia-xconfig doesn't work in ubuntu iirc and if it worked you'd need to run it with sudo [20:35] rklapp: sudo is a command to run command-line programs with superuser privileges ("root") (also see !cli). Look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo for more information. For graphical applications see !gksu (GNOME, Xfce), or !kdesudo (KDE). If you're unable to execute commands with sudo see: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/fixsudo [20:35] jockey-gtk should handle xorg.conf too [20:36] how do i run in root? [20:36] rklapp: see hat ubottu gave you [20:36] what* [20:37] what do you mean gave me? [20:39] I ran sudo nvidia-xconfig and it still gave me the same incomplete error but also backed up the xorg.conf file. [20:43] rklapp: by the way, how did you install the drivers? [20:43] rklapp: I'm pretty sure it should autodetect them [20:45] Unfortunately, it didn't or it did and didn't activate properly. I went through System - Administration - Additional Drivers. It told me that my nvidia driver was not activated so I activated. It told me to reboot so i did. I then got a Too Many connections error and went into tty mode. I'm able to get the GUI back by entering recovery mode and failsafe graphics. [20:50] rklapp: "too many connections" error? [20:50] occurs at boot up [20:51] http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1635278 [20:51] like this? [20:54] anything else in the logs? [20:54] especially the X log [20:56] it does make a funny sound out of the speakers when I get the message. maybe a conflict between the onboard sound and my 560ti? What log are you refering to... the one in X11? [20:58] don't see an x log [20:58] it's in /var/log/ [20:59] called Xorg.0.log (or later number, depedning on which boot you want) [21:01] (_last_ time i had problems with nvidia because of jockey i switched to fedora) [21:01] i haven't tried the beta for linux 64bit from the nvidia website. should i try the beta driver? [21:02] can't recommend [21:04] how do i post a log? [21:10] rklapp, Usually in a pastebin to keep from flooding the channel. [21:10] whats a pastebin? [21:11] http://paste.ubuntu.com/ [21:11] hi people! [21:11] It's a place to paste large segments of text such as logs and it condenses it down to a link for others to view. [21:15] http://paste.ubuntu.com/592307/plain/ [21:15] good Lord, I have to enter a password to do anything with linux [21:16] cant find the too many connections error in the log [21:33] there's several pastebin sites... including http://pastebin.com/ === LucidOne is now known as IdleOne === Thermi is now known as thermi [23:16] hey ppl [23:16] anyone know how to launch ati control panel from command line
