jibelstgraber, highvoltage can you test Edubuntu on i386 ?00:00
stgraberjibel: yeah, I have it almost downloaded00:02
jibelstgraber, great thanks00:03
jibelI'll upload myself to my bed then! see you all00:03
stgraberskaet, patrickmw: LTSP amd64 confirmed to work, finally :)00:04
patrickmwstgraber, good stuff.00:04
patrickmwjibel, what's the word on edubuntu dvd i386?00:12
patrickmwjibel, was there a defect that needs to be validated?00:12
highvoltagejibel, patrickmw: stgraber is testing edubuntu dvd i38600:17
stgraberwell, I'll in 50s when it's done downloading :)00:23
stgraberpatrickmw: Live LTSP and installed LTSP both need checking on Edubuntu00:23
skaetstgraber  :)00:23
stgraberpatrickmw: both Edubuntu images will be rebuilt00:53
patrickmwstgraber: awwww00:53
stgraberpatrickmw: livefs was completely out of date on i386 due to a ltsp issue (same one I fixed this afternoon apparently) and part of the i386 build is used in the amd64 one. So both will have to be tested again.00:54

jibelhi all, powerpc and amd64+mac images have been rebuilt yesterday, anyone to smoke test it a bit and ensure that there's no regression ?10:34
chadadavisjibel, I just reburnt the CDs, I'm gonna try to cover ubuntu-desktop, ubuntu-alternate, kubuntu-desktop, kubuntu-alternate10:35
jibelchadadavis, awesome. Many thanks!10:35

Riddelljibel: I take it you didn't come across bug 712612 on your kubuntu upgrade tests?11:49
ubot4Launchpad bug 712612 in kubuntu-meta (Ubuntu Natty) (and 1 other project) "No background after kubuntu upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04 (affects: 1) (heat: 8)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/71261211:49
jibelRiddell, no, it's fixed. Closing it, thanks11:50
Riddellgroovy11:50
jibelubuntustudio all done !11:58
cjwatsonjibel: did it pass?12:26
cjwatson... apparently so12:37
jibelcjwatson, yes it did13:07
primes2hHi jibel. :-)13:42
primes2hIt seems that Beta 2 is out. http://releases.ubuntu.com/11.04/13:42
jibelHey primes2h , not announced yet. this is just a pre-publishing.13:45
chadadavisThose are from the current images then? Barring any show-stopping bugs, I assume?13:49
primes2hjibel: oh, ok. thanks.13:51
jibelchadadavis, correct.  primes2h it would be nice to push the button and instantly publish the images with the announcement.13:53
primes2hjibel: I know, maybe using a script? ;-)13:56
psaldenif you got the first beta installed, it will just update to what the second has to offer, no?13:57
jibelpsalden, if you have a previous milestone installed and updated regularly then you're already running the latest packages available in Natty.14:06
psaldencool, thanks for the confirmation14:07
psaldenI did read a faq or so explaining all this too some time last week, but I can't find it anymore14:08
cjwatsonprimes2h: it is of course largely scripted.  however since mirrors pull from the public site, it's not possible for the announcement to be simultaneous with publishing images.14:51
cjwatsonprimes2h: unless you want everyone to pull from the central site and get really slow download rates.14:51
primes2hcjwatson: sure, I mean, I was talking about images on the tracker :-)14:54
primes2hcjwatson: images/milestones14:55
jibelRiddell, do you know someone who could test kubuntu on powerpc and check that nothing broke with the latest build ?14:56
Riddelltm_t is our usual tester14:57
cjwatsonjibel,Riddell: though the desktop image will probably fail to install due to bug 75671915:07

charlie-tcahm, webupd8 beat OMG! Ubuntu on the beta2 announcement?15:51
jibelcharlie-tca, there's no announcement because it is not released. They simply make noise by blogging about the mirror sync.15:57
charlie-tcayeah, I know16:03
charlie-tcaIt's kind of funny to watch them make their announcements, though16:03
jibelchadadavis, do you think you can boot a desktop and alternate image on amd64+mac ? maybe overcautious there, but expect the unexpected16:17
chadadavisjibel, I'm on the last kubuntu-desktop right now (sorry, CDROMs are a bit slower). Then I'll do one ubuntu-desktop then one ubuntu-alternate, before doing the remaining ones.16:19
jibelchadadavis, ok, perfect.16:20
* jibel would be happy to help but doesn't have this arch in his basement :/16:21
chadadavisjibel, no problem. Would be no problem if I could do two VMs in parallel, like I can on the PC. PS: against what package would you file a bug if the Mac doesn't boot the images from USB? usb-creator I guess?16:23
jibelyes if you created it with usb-creator16:24

jibelhggdh, do you know why EC2 EBS and Instance US are untested ?17:54
hggdhno, will check with James17:54
hggdhjibel: ^17:54
jibelhggdh, looks like a problem to reach the archive17:59
jibelW: Failed to fetch bzip2:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/us-west-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_main_source_Sources  Hash Sum mismatch17:59
hggdhjibel: jamespage | hggdh: OK - all regions aside from us-* tested - however archive checksum issues in those regions which means we can't test18:01
jibelhggdh, okay thanks!18:02
hggdhjibel: the matrix (I do not know if you have it): http://jenkins.qa.ubuntu-uk.org/view/natty-ec2/job/natty_server_ec2/9/18:02
jibelhggdh, that's what I was looking. Do you think you could do an export from jenkins for server tests (u-server and ec2), so I can update the tracker automatically ?18:04
hggdhjibel: this is part of what we want to get decided & done for next cycle18:05
hggdhjibel: but, right now, my position is 'hell yes, I am tired of clicking buttons and copying & pasting from Jenkins to tracker'18:06
jibelheh18:07
skaethggdh:  +1  on that position.  :)18:28
patrickmwjibel, what's the bug you were getting while setting up raid 1 with server i386?18:48
patrickmwjibel, I seem to have a problem with the installer removing my partition settings on disk 1 when I change the settings on disk 218:49
bdmurraypatrickmw: Are you planning on submitting separate bugs for LP: #760275?19:28
bdmurraybug 76027519:28

skaetchadadavis, any feedback on the smoketest of the amd64+mac images?19:31
skaetjibel, ^,  ?19:31
penguinbaitI am working with an arm image and I finally have X working, is there a way to reset it to do the installer on boot, its not booting directly to X with no users or setup, how can I force instller to run on boot?19:33
penguinbaitsorry its NOW booting into X with no users19:35
chadadavisskaet, no regressions on Mac. The installer will hang if a previous install ruined the partition table, but that probably still falls under the original bug 75865819:38
ubot4Launchpad bug 758658 in ubiquity (Ubuntu Natty) (and 2 other projects) "Natty slideshow uses en_GB for all English users (affects: 2) (heat: 12)" [Low,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/75865819:38

skaetthanks chadadavis.19:43
chadadavisAnd I'm having a few small issues that I can't yet quantify when using persistent USB storage with the live CD, but I'm still looking into it.19:43
bdmurraychadadavis: like what?20:03
jibelskaet, Tm_T is giving a test run to powerpc20:05
skaetchadadavis, jibel - trying to figure out if it should be ship/not based on that partman issue.   Are you +1 on shipping (kubuntu alternate/desktop, ubuntu alternate/desktop for amd64+mac)20:05
chadadavisbdmurray, sudo was failing with 'can't get current working directory' when on persistent USB.20:08
bdmurraychadadavis: what was the exact command you were using?20:08
chadadavissudo reboot20:08
chadadavisFrom /home/ubuntu20:09
bdmurraychadadavis: thanks, I'll look into that20:09
chadadavisAlso had problems starting firefox from the launcher, though it started fine from the command line. Can't yet tell if that's related.20:09
bdmurraythere was a sudo update recently that I was involved in so I'm curious about that20:10
chadadavisskaet, it would be a shame to not ship on mac. It's a serious issue, but it only occurs when splitting a partition, i.e .when you have multiple instances of Linux on a mac, which seems like a very rare use case. I've been doing graphics card testing and using the mac often. The rest of the system is quite stable.20:10
skaetthanks chadadavis,  thats what I was wanting to know.  :)20:11
chadadavisskaet, if the release notes warn not to use LVM and warn not to use multiple Linux instances, that would probably be sufficient, no?20:13
bdmurraychadadavis: actually I don't think that version of sudo is out yet20:13
skaetchadadavis,  yup.20:13
jibelchadadavis, I agree.20:16
jibelskaet, really make it clear about the 2 cases that doesn't pass.20:16
skaetjibel,  just a sec, and I'll cut and paste... here20:17
skaet * When installing the amd64+mac version, there are known issues around splitting partitions that are being worked.  Please avoid using LVM and multiple linux instances at this time. (Bug:745960, Bug:746313)20:19
skaetjibel, chadadavis ^^ clear?  or does it need tweaks?20:19
jibelskaet, it's not 'Please avoid', but rather 'Do not use'20:22
skaetjibel.  ok, will reword.  Thanks!20:23
chadadavisskaet, the partition splitting is maybe more complicated than necessary. "Do not use LVM with amd64+mac and do not install multiple instances of Linux side-by-side on amd64+mac." ?20:23
chadadavisI.e. partition splitting works, if someone wants a separate /home, that's OK. Might be confusing otherwise.20:24
skaetchaddavis,  gotcha,  adjusting20:24
skaetWhen installing the amd64+mac version, please do not use LVM.  Also avoid using multiple linux instances at this time. (Bug:745960, Bug:746313)20:26
skaetok?20:26
chadadavisskaet, sounds clear to me.20:28
skaetchadadavis,   Its in the release notes now.  :)20:29
jibelskaet, ok20:29
chadadavisskaet, great. It's very impressive how well Natty works on Mac. Glad it's not being dropped.20:31
cjwatsonskaet: yeah, I agree with chadadavis that this is serious but not stop-ship20:41
cjwatson(and it's on my to-do)20:41
patrickmwbdmurray: affirmative on that translations bug20:41
skaetchadadavis, cjwatson.  :)20:42

mouzilI've download ubuntu 11.04 beta2 and I'm wondering if this is the right channel to comment about problems21:00
charlie-tcasupport for it is #ubuntu+1, we do the testing here for each milestone, like alpha1, beta221:01
charlie-tcaWhat kind of problems?21:01
charlie-tcaand when did you download?21:02
mouzil1 hour ago21:02
mouzilI got this message after install: "It seems that you do not have the hardware requered to run Unity. Please choose Ubuntu Classic at the login screen and you will be using the traditional environment."21:04
charlie-tcaThat's not a problem, that is advisory message to say if yoou do not install your hardware video driver, you can not use Unity21:05
charlie-tcaIf your video card does not have a hardware driver, you need to select classic at the login screen.21:05
mouzilI undestan21:06
mouzilthank you21:06
charlie-tcaYou are welcome21:06
charlie-tcaEnjoy the new Ubuntu!21:06
skaetjibel and all who've helped test Natty Beta 2,  Thank you for your efforts!!!    Natty Beta 2 is now announced.   Mirrors are still synching up a bit to pick up those mac images, but rest should be in place.21:32

charlie-tcaThanks to jibel and skaet and cjwatson and pitti for all the effort!21:34
PatrickdkI had time on tuesday, but not yesterday :(21:35
highvoltagejibel: whohoo! \o/21:35
jibeland patrickmw and all who contributed to make Beta 2 a great milestone!21:36
chadadavisbdmurray: I may have found something regarding the sudo issue when using a persistent USB with the live CD.21:47
bdmurraychadadavis: okay21:47
chadadavisIt seems to only occur when formatted with the "take ownership of filesystem" option, which is the default in palimsest. If that does what I think it does, then I guess it makes sense. Doesnt' seem like a sudo problem, though.21:48
