c2tarunI am facing a very serious problem with natty. anyone here.04:49
c2tarunRiddell: ping04:49
c2tarunPrevious releases like lucid and maverick never detected my wifi driver. Natty detected, but when it starts it tries to connect to the wifi connection available and then I get a black screen with many things written on it.( Can't understand them ) and then screen freezes :/04:51
c2tarunNow I switched of my wifi and using the same connection with wire and installing the broadcom driver. Lets see if this works or not.  I am facing this problem with Beta1 as well as Beta2 64-bit04:53
c2tarunping05:11
valoriec2tarun: riddell is gone until Monday night05:18
valorieyou will get better luck with #ubuntu+105:18
c2tarunvalorie: ohh.... :(05:19
c2tarun#ubuntu+1 means? is this a channel?05:19
valorieyes05:20
valoriejust for natty05:20
valoriewell, just for "whatever is in testing"05:20
c2tarunvalorie: ok, I'll ask there05:20
valoriethey've been good to me in the past05:22
c2tarunhow can I change my default network manager05:31
c2tarun?05:31
valorielike, use wicd?05:31
c2tarunvalorie: yup05:32
c2tarunhow can I shut down my kde network manager for a while?05:32
valorieI have used it in the past, however, had to uninstall it to get knetworkmanager working right in Mav.05:32
valoriethe thing is, to get wicD working, you might have to do that same with knetwork05:33
valoriebit of a connundrum05:33
valorieI'm not sure how you would do that05:33
valoriewicd "just worked" in lucid05:34
valorieand in Mav, just didn't05:34
valorieeven with a wire05:34
c2tarunvalorie: still I have to give it a try because my network manager is simply freezing my system :/05:35
valoriethat's awful05:35
c2tarunstrange thing is, my network manager was working fine at night :/ it isn't working since morning05:39
valoriethat sounds like my freaking sound!05:40
valorieI got my sound going again05:40
valorieso, have you tried your network manager from a new user?05:40
c2tarunvalorie: nope not yet.05:40
valoriethat was how I got my sound going again05:40
valorie:-)05:41
ScottKThere was a new network-manager upload yesterday.  I'd try downgrading and see if it gets better.05:41
c2tarunScottK: how can I downgrade?05:41
ScottKDownload the old .deb from Launchpad, copy it onto your system and then install it.05:42
ScottKsudo dpkg -i filename.deb05:42
c2tarunScottK: will it replace the new version?05:42
ScottKYes.05:42
c2tarunok05:42
c2tarunScottK: how can I check my current version?05:45
ScottKYou have wired network on the machine, right?05:45
c2tarunScottK: yup05:45
ScottKSimplest way is just to upgrade.  If it doesn't offer you a newer on, then you've got the latest.05:46
c2tarunScottK: I already tried sudo apt-get dist-upgrade05:46
c2tarunits getting me nothing05:46
ScottKThen you've got the newest.05:46
ScottKYou probably got a new one yesterday or earlier today05:47
c2tarunScottK: one more strange thing, I upgraded my system in night, but I got beta1 installed in other partition and I havent upgraded it in last few days, suddenly it also started facing this problem.05:47
ScottKThat is a bit odd.05:48
ScottKThat makes it sound more like hardware.05:48
c2tarun:(05:48
ScottKHow else would two separate installs be affected?05:48
c2tarunyup.05:49
c2tarunScottK: anyway, I can get the older versio from this link? https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/network-manager05:50
ScottKYes05:51
c2tarunScottK: on running aptitude show networkmanager | grep Version I am getting "Unable to locate package networkmanager"05:51
ScottKnetwork-manager is the source package name.  You have to look and find the binary package names.05:52
ScottKGood luck.05:52
ScottKI need to get to sleep.05:52
valoriesweet dreams, ScottK05:52
ScottKThanks.05:52

valoriehi07:10
valorieI'm still on mav07:10
c2tarunvalorie: I just installed mav on a separate partition and wifi is working fine here :/ (no hardware problem) I installed wicd on natty and it also freezed while connecting with wifi :/07:14
* c2tarun rebooting and going to natty07:14
valoriethat does not sound good at all07:16
c2tarunvalorie: great :/ now I am not even able to start natty. after the blue splash screen I am getting the blank screen :/07:23
valorieyikes07:26
valorieI hope you are filing bugs for this stuff07:26
c2tarunnope, I was still struggling with these stuffs :/07:27
c2tarunvalorie: I have to write a full story for everything :/07:28
MamarokI have no working WiFi on Natty07:37
Mamaroknothing detected, although it works fine with Maverick07:38
valorieheh, that's just what c2tarun is reporting07:38
valoriehe said the same thing07:38
Mamarokit shows one "Hidden network" wile it should show at least 6 unhidden ones07:38
Mamarokwhile*07:38
MamarokI guess the scanner doesn't work07:39
valoriemaybe the radio doesn't get turned on07:39
valorie?07:39
Mamarokwell, it can show a hidden network07:40
Mamarokbut I will try by hand07:40
valoriehe tried wicd, and that didn't work either07:40
Mamarokthen it is most likely a missing driver, but I had that installed previously, maybe they changed soething in the kernel07:48
Mamaroksomething*07:48
Mamarokanother possibility is that they already switched to iw instead of iwconfig...07:50
Obituary37hi08:22

c2tarunvalorie: should I reinstall natty?10:18
valorieshe said it isn't fixed yet10:19

c2tarunthanks :)10:25
valorieoh, have you run grub-update?10:28
valorieyou should be able to choose, right?10:28
c2tarunvalorie: well grub detected natty but on opening it I am getting blank screen after splash screen.10:30
valorieright, but you want mav instead then, right?10:31
c2tarunvalorie: actually I installed mav on separate partition and natty on separate, according to me both should work. when choosing mav from the menu its working but when choosing natty I am getting blank screen10:44
valorieyeah, natty sounds totally borked10:48
valorieare you doing beta2, or from dailies?10:48
c2tarunvalorie: beta210:53
valorieso rebuilding it won't change anything10:54
valorieunless maybe logging in as a new user?10:54
c2tarunvalorie: I am not getting the screen on which I have to enter username and psswd :(10:56

c2tarunshadeslayer, yofel: ^^ can you guys tell what is happening?12:52
yofelif you hold the notebook against the light and still see something on the screen then the backlight is only turned off - file a bug against the kernel I think and try an older one12:52

c2tarunshadeslayer: actually in lucid and mav I have to install broadcom sta drivers, but natty first detected my wifi automatically.13:13
c2tarunshadeslayer: but now its creating problem13:13

shadeslayeryofel: i'm pondering on adding dblatex to kdepim13:34
shadeslayerrefer : http://paste.kde.org/1262213:35
yofelI don't see a problem with that, it's in main after all13:38
shadeslayeryeah, that's why i needed another opinion :)13:39
shadeslayeryofel: btw unpacking stuff on your thinkpad is lightning fast ... does it have a SSD or something?13:39
yofelmy server? no13:40
yofelblame the disk cache I would say13:40
shadeslayeryeah .. then how does it take so little time to unpack stuff13:40
shadeslayeryofel: no .. *unpacking* archives13:40
shadeslayeryofel: tmpfs   /tmp    tmpfs   rw,size=8G  0   0 << that's the reason i think13:42
shadeslayeror rather : tmpfs   /var/cache/pbuilder/build    tmpfs   rw,size=7G  0   013:42
yofelah yeah, *that* would be a reason ^^13:43
shadeslayerany improvements on mounting /tmp into the RAM?13:43
shadeslayerand is that line all i need to mount my /tmp into my pc's RAM?13:44
shadeslayeryofel: how about .. in neonmake, mount the build dir to tmpfs to speed stuff up?13:52
yofelshadeslayer: see my fstab for the line, but I mount /tmp as tmpfs out of habit usually, except on my SSD, there it's to prevent nonsense writes to the card13:58
shadeslayerohk13:59
shadeslayeryofel: any ideas how to manually mount each and every build dir ( before it starts building ) ?14:00
yofeland neonmake.... a) you need sudo for mount b) I can't think of a reliable way to make sure there is enough space there. As some users actually don't use swap14:00
shadeslayerreally? can't i just mount a certain folder on my drive to the RAM without sudo?14:00
yofelmount tells me it needs sudo, you can mount stuff as a user if there's a fstab line with the user option in it14:01
shadeslayerah .. hmm 14:01
yofelwell, manual mount would be:14:02
yofelsudo mount -t tmpfs tmpfs tmp/14:02
yofelor sudo mount -t tmpfs tmpfs -o size=8G tmp/14:02
yofelso, while tmpfs makes sense for pbuilder as it needs to install a ton of stuff, the disk I/O for usual builds isn't that high, so I don't see the sense in doing that14:04
shadeslayeroh .. 14:07
jussishadeslayer: study! ;P14:08
shadeslayerwhy?14:08
shadeslayerexams are over :P14:08
bambeeAre there cmake macros to install .conf and .policy files for dbus ?14:08

shadeslayer:D16:16
c2tarunshadeslayer:  :) yeah you are always very fast.16:16
shadeslayerc2tarun: no.. PIM was released to kde packager more than a week back16:17
shadeslayeri just got around to doing it16:17
c2tarunshadeslayer: well I am not on kde packagers list :/ so I didn't got the mail16:17
shadeslayerc2tarun: file a sysadmin bug report and tell them you package stuff for kubuntu16:17
shadeslayerbug report would go in bugs.kde.org16:18
c2tarunshadeslayer: I did that. Riddell commented that he want that list reserved for kubuntu-members.16:18
shadeslayeroh16:18
shadeslayerdidn't know that16:18
c2tarun:/16:18
shadeslayer*sigh* ... docbook stuff16:19

afiestasit contains a few huge fixes on "Sharing files"20:51
afiestasthat would be like to have in the final iso20:51
shadeslayerafiestas: bugfixes?20:51
shadeslayerany new features?20:51
afiestasshadeslayer: nope20:52
afiestasthe current package is kinda a "BlueDevil beta", so no20:53
afiestasno new features have been add20:53
shadeslayerokay, i'm not entirely sure if it would go in, but having no new features is considered a huge plus20:53
afiestasshadeslayer: where can I push for it a little bit?20:54
shadeslayerafiestas: file a FFe :)20:54
afiestasFFe?20:55
shadeslayerFeature Freeze Exception 20:55
* afiestas has to learn (K)Ubuntu procedements :/20:55
yofelerm, you only need a ffe for new features?20:55
afiestasthe current package is a git snapshot, update to latest git would be possible?20:55
shadeslayeryofel: aren't new uploads to the archive now locked?20:56
apacheloggershadeslayer: nice20:56
yofelthey are, but I'm not sure you need a FFE for that, asking someone from the release team would be a good idea20:56
shadeslayerbest idea ^20:57
afiestassorry to be late as always guys, I had a terribly busy week at work :/20:57
shadeslayerapachelogger: still doesn't work properly 20:57
shadeslayerapachelogger: Says [Paused] when the song is playing and vice versa20:57
yofelhm... I wanted to mess around with dbus too over the weekend, something for tomorrow :)20:58
apacheloggershadeslayer: yeah well20:59
apacheloggerdbus in pyth0rn is a gigantic pain in the arse20:59
apparleI want to upgrade to natty from 10.10. Is there any command line method to do it, maybe a script like kubuntu-devel-release-upgrade?21:08
apacheloggerdo-release-upgrade21:08
apparleapachelogger: that's it, any other changes to repos or anything?21:10
ScottKapparle: It will take care of that for you.21:11
ScottKYou'll need -d to upgrade to the development release.21:11
ScottKsudo do-release-upgrade -d21:11
apparlehow long does it take for Calculating changes. It is stuck. Is there anyway I can make the upgrade download everything needed and then perform actual upgrade later21:22
rbelemScottK, GrueMaster, Riddell, i just made a small script in python to create the "/etc/default/nodm"21:35
rbelemhttp://paste.kde.org/12743/21:35
shadeslayeryofel: around?21:41
GrueMasterrbelem: Looks good.  Are you going to run this as an oem-config postinst hook?21:44
yofelshadeslayer: yes?21:48
shadeslayeryofel: nvm .. sorted :P21:48
yofel:)21:48
apacheloggerrbelem: and that could not have been done in sh? :S21:50
rbelemGrueMaster, yup :-)21:54
rbelemScottK, do we really need plasma-desktop.desktop to be installed in /usr/share/autostart?21:56
ScottKIs something pulling plasma-desktop into mobile?21:57
shadeslayerget this21:57
shadeslayeri'm seeing lag on DBus21:57
shadeslayer( using pyth0rn ofcourse )21:57
ScottKThere's some magic in the kdm postinst to figure out which one to install.  Maybe it needs extending.21:57
rbelemScottK, if plasma-desktop is installed it will run even if KDEDIRS is set correctly21:59
ScottKLook at what's in the kdm postinst and see if you can extend it.21:59
rbelemScottK, and we need to move plasma-desktop.desktop somewhere else22:00
rbelemplasma-desktop: /usr/share/autostart/plasma-desktop.desktop22:01
=== jjesse_ is now known as jjesse
rbelemapachelogger, hum... how to do that in sh? :-) i'm much familiar with sh :'(22:26
* yofel never used configobj - what does config['NODM_ENABLED'] = 'true' do? set a default value?22:29
rbelemyofel, it sets to the key 'NODM_ENABLED' the string value true :-)22:37
rbelemyofel, it is much better than ConfigParser22:37
yofelah wait, I misunderstood the code... you're *creating* the config file there...22:38
rbelemyofel, yup22:40
bambeea dbus/polkit guru around ?22:44
yofelwth, I can't enable desktop effects on my eeePC (intel 945GME) in natty o.O23:09
rbelemScottK, is there bzr repos for kubuntu-mobile-default-settings?23:26
rbelemjust found23:26
yofelScottK: do you know if we're going to get the patch from kde bug 270942 in for natty?23:38
ubottuKDE bug 270942 in compositing "Direct Rendering is wrongfully disabled on Intel graphics since mesa 7 10 1" [Normal,Unconfirmed] http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27094223:38
ScottKyofel: Let's ask.  Meet me in #ubuntu-x23:40
ScottKNow we wait and see.23:41
* nixternal does a little dance - intel + desktop effects worked out of the box with new natty install :)23:50
yofellucky you, here I was wondering why kwin simply refused to enable them until I noticed that glxinfo says direct rendering: yes and kwin said no, then went digging through bugzilla23:51
nixternalthough I think opengl might be the reason for slowness on some things, so i need to switch over to xrender to see if that is faster. i have wgt golf game in chrome, and it is slow as hell in natty where it was perfect in maverick. difference i can see is natty is using opengl whereas I was using xrender in mav23:53
nixternali want to give a couple of days first to make sure it isn't wgt golf acting up23:53
* yofel waits for his mesa build to finish in the meanwhile...23:54
