[00:48] how do i install gnome-volume-manager? [01:06] i upgraded to 4.8 on ubuntu maverick but now i can't do shutdown/hibernate its grayed out, can someone help please? [01:42] Hello all [01:48] Would anyone here be able to help me with a question regarding Panels? [01:50] knome: Just ask, if anyone knows the answer, they'll probably answer. [01:50] opps [01:50] knw257: That was for you, sorry knome. [01:51] I'm trying to figure out how to move the notification tray item, but each time I attempt to right click it, it gives the context menu of the icon, not of the panel item [01:56] Do you mean move the icons the notification area or the notification are itself? [01:57] notification area itself, as I don't think the former can be done [01:58] Nor do I :) The notification area "right-click area" (don't know what else to call it) appears to be very small. [01:59] So small, in fact, that I have yet to find it :P [01:59] Hallelujah, I found it [01:59] But it won't let me put in on the bottom panel :( [02:00] Maybe I have to remove it, and add it to panel 2 manually [02:00] No, I can find it...it's just hard :( [02:00] Indeed, I found it, and removed it, allowing me to add it to the bottom panel [02:00] Just needed assurance that it was there [02:01] Try right clicking just to the left of the first icon...moving the pointer a few pixels at a time [02:01] It's there [02:01] Dude, read my last couple messages - I got it [02:01] Thanks [02:01] ok [02:02] Just FYI, I didn't mean that to sound rude, need to self-edit before hitting enter [02:08] gn8 === Thermi is now known as thermi [03:51] can anyone tell me why when I input "sudo apt-get remove kde*" I get 158 packages to be removed? Does Xubuntu have any dependencies on Kde stuff at all? [03:53] bueler [03:53] bueler [03:53] anyone? [03:53] at all [03:53] !purexfce [03:53] If you want to remove all !KDE and !Gnome packages and have a default !Xubuntu system follow the instructions here « http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purexfce » [03:54] finally, [03:54] Thank you [03:57] And this won't affect my install of xubuntu at all? [03:57] nope [03:57] I tried something similar, and it stuck me on the xubuntu boot screen and refused to boot. [03:57] Luckily, I had my live cd and could mount my file system to fix it. [03:58] ctrl+alt+F2 would have got you to a tty [03:58] tty? sorry, not familiar with the acronym [03:59] !tty [03:59] To get to the TTY terminals 1-6, use the keystroke ctrl + alt + F1-F6 respectively (Alt+F7 will get you back to your graphical login). To change the resolution for your TTY, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ChangeTTYResolution. [03:59] not an irc acronym [03:59] ah, gotcha, thanks for that as well [03:59] np :) [04:00] so it's ctrl+alt+f(1-6)....why are there six? [04:02] 'cause 7 & 8 are for X [06:41] is there some way to turn off the requirement to utilize a wallet in order to connect to a wireless network? [06:42] just installed the natty beta [06:42] !natty [06:42] Natty Narwhal is the codename for Ubuntu 11.04, due April 28 2011. Help and support (only) in #ubuntu+1. Natty is beta and is not currently intended for production systems. [06:44] thanks, at least now i know when it's supposed to be released [06:44] does anyone know offhand if the pfit package is broken in 9.04 [06:44] ? [06:45] and you know the channel where more help would be [06:45] s/pfit/fpit [06:45] pteague: ^^ [06:45] !eol [06:45] End-Of-Life is the time when security updates and support for an Ubuntu release stop, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases for more information. Looking to upgrade from an EOL release? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades [06:46] I know that its not supported anymore [06:46] is 9.04 still supported? [06:46] I need the finepoint driver to work though, and currently its broken [06:47] if the driver is part of the kernel you might have luck with a newer kernel [06:47] !kernel [06:47] The core of Ubuntu is the Linux kernel: see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel - You shouldn't have to compile your own, and if you need to troubleshoot issues, you can try a !Mainline kernel instead, but if you insist, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile (see also !Stages) [06:47] Its a documented bug [06:47] and reports are filed [06:48] its a broken requirement [06:48] and conflicts with xserver-xorg-input-4 [06:48] But I'll just roll back and try it myself [06:48] thanks anyways [06:49] luck [07:57] I have installed a .deb that includes a kernel module. Anytime I update the kernel through the updater, it recompiles all of my necessary modules except this one, how do I add this one to the list that it upgrades? [08:14] Hello? [09:25] xubuntu 11.04 is looking good at beta2 found a couple of minor glitches but nothing bad [09:57] I think more people will jump to [09:57] Xubuntu with the introduction of unity in the mainline OS [10:04] xfce 4.8 is great, we'll see if they get compiz working in natty and if people get used to unity [10:05] true, I've only installed xubuntu 11.04 beta2 today, but I love it [10:06] i've loved xubuntu since 8.04 :) [10:06] tried normal ubuntu 11.04 yesterday and hated it [10:06] mmm [10:07] well I've been using gnome for last couple ubuntu versions and saw unity and was like........ [17:50] hello === Thermi is now known as thermi === thermi is now known as Thermi [21:27] how do I get requests for my private key password to be sent to a daemon, and which daemon can I use? Apparently the GNOME one is running but trying to SSH to a server with my public key asks me for the passphrase in the terminal. [21:29] i have ssh-key in ~/.ssh/id_dsa/id_dsa [21:29] and i can connect to server without passwd [21:29] Sysi: I have mine in ~/.ssh/id_rsa and it does get that part right [21:30] Sysi: but the GNOME keyring daemon is running [21:30] but doesn't get called when I try to SSH [21:30] its this xterm's fault? [21:31] i think that kind of setup has nothing to do with other daemons than ssh [21:32] so how do I get it to ask for the keyring password once and then save it for the session? [21:33] i have no idea, you can try if somebody else here knows or in #ubuntu since it's gnome-stuff [21:33] yeah [21:33] thing is, I'm running xubuntu [21:33] it worked until I switched === lostson is now known as MisterJones === medeman_ is now known as medeman [23:06] gn8 === Thermi is now known as thermi === An_Ony_Moose is now known as Mouse|Sleep
