RAOFhicham: Yup.00:17
hichamRAOF: what is is it ?00:17
hichamRAOF: indicator-network if for conmann00:18
hicham*is00:18
RAOFI think we patch the nm-applet source to add an indicator.00:18
hichamoh00:18
hichamthanks00:18
hichamwhat about programs that use the notification area ?00:28
hichamthey need to be patched as well ?00:28
RAOFThere is a notification area in Unity, but it's protected by a whitelist.  Wine is on that whitelist, as I think is skype.00:32
RAOFOthers get to use indicators instead :)00:32
hichamhow bad00:32
RAOFI presume it'd be relatively easy to remove the whitelist; then you'd have a notification area and indicator area.00:33
RAOFWhich wouldn't interact very well, which is why the notification area is restricted to a whitelist :)00:34
DBORAOF, NOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOoooooooooooooooooOOOOOOooooooooooooooo06:32
RAOFDBO: We got *one* set of bugs, at least!06:33
DBORAOF, I was thinking about it06:34
DBOand the only one that doesn't make sense is the dri2 freeze06:34
DBOthats on the same display as the grabs06:34
DBOit doesn't make sense for that to be an XGrabServer issue then06:34
DBOI have asked Chris to see if it still happens for him with vsync disabled06:34
RAOFI expect it won't.06:35
DBOright06:35
DBOso now we get to figure out why the hell vsync fails so hard sometimes06:36
RAOFI'm parsing his kernel logs to check that the kernel hasn't simply missed the vblank event.06:36
RAOF250MiB of kernel log is *fun* to wade through!06:37
RAOFWow.  We really waited the *hell* out of from 3788 - we waited for it no fewer than 7 times!06:42
RAOFs/from/frame/06:42
RAOFDBO: Suspicions!07:15
DBOthey abound07:15
RAOFIt looks like drm_queue_vblank_event might be broken if you call it at a particularly inopportune time.07:16
DBOis that our fault?07:17
RAOFNo.07:17
RAOFLooks like it may be a kernel problem.07:17
RAOFOh, maybe not :/07:19
RAOFWell, suspicions remain, but it's not what I thought.07:20

om26erkamstrup, ping!11:43
om26erkamstrup, seems like bug 764352 reporter is telling the truth, so does the issue go into unity-places or is it a unity one?11:44
ubot5Launchpad bug 764352 in unity (Ubuntu) "Unity search results depends on typing speed" [Low,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/76435211:44
kamstrupom26er: I have a hunch as to why that could happen - i'll add a unity-place-files task for it. Thank's for the heads up11:46

davidcalleHi all. njpatel or didrocks, is there any way to kill a lens service? It keeps respawning.13:57
davidcalleNervermind, I did it.14:01
didrocksdavidcalle: you can probably chmod it temporarly14:04
davidcalledidrocks, I just commented out the exec line in the .service.14:04
didrocksworks too :)14:04

jcastrokenvandine:  njpatel: so did we ever find the problem in the python lens race login mystery?15:37
kenvandinejcastro, not sure, but the AU lens is working for me now15:38
davidcallejcastro, kenvandine, for me, it's when I add the AU lens that all others fail to load at times.15:41
kenvandinedavidcalle, that sounds scary15:42
kenvandinedavidcalle, but i can kind of confirm that15:42
kenvandinelast week, the books lens wouldn't work either, at the same time the AU lens didn't15:43
kenvandinethe gwibber lens kept working though, which makes it more confusing15:43
jcastrokenvandine: right, so depending on my luck either one, both, or none of them would work15:45
didrocksom26er: there is is no opened bug on the first icon being displayed as if we were in a keynav state, isn't it?15:46
davidcallekenvandine, it seems to be related to loading things via web APIs. That would explain why the gwibber lens keeps working.15:47
om26erdidrocks, hm I dont think so15:49
om26eron the other note unity just crashed on clicking empty trash :p15:49
didrocksom26er: on trunk?15:51
om26erofficial versions didrocks15:52
didrocksom26er: ok, I changed that part of code since Friday, should be safer now :)15:52
marcobiscaro2112om26er: this is bug #76164315:55
ubot5Launchpad bug 761643 in unity (Ubuntu) "unity crashes when emptying trash twice" [High,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/76164315:55
om26ermarcobiscaro2112, thx :)15:55
didrockshey marcobiscaro2112 :)15:56
marcobiscaro2112hi didrocks !15:56
* davidcalle is happy, has found a way to deal with slow API in lenses.15:57
didrocksom26er: I've just reproduce bug #763791 once, couldn't at all then, do you have any clue?15:59
ubot5Launchpad bug 763791 in unity (Ubuntu) "Windows which were maximized and minimized are unminimized incorrectly" [Medium,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/76379115:59
jcastrokenvandine: ok so as you login from now on can you keep an eye on the AU lens?16:00
om26erdidrocks, its duplicate16:00
didrocksom26er: oh really? didn't notice16:01
om26erdidrocks, assigned to sam ;)16:01
kenvandinejcastro, will do16:01
* om26er finds the duplicate16:01
om26erdidrocks, bug 76043616:02
ubot5Launchpad bug 760436 in unity (Ubuntu) "Window display shifted" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/76043616:02
didrocksom26er: no, it's no a duplicate16:04
didrocksom26er: here, the mouse/keyboard input are correct16:04
didrocksbug #760436 is an old bug I could reproduce at will with chromium some time ago16:04
ubot5Launchpad bug 760436 in unity (Ubuntu) "Window display shifted" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/76043616:04
om26erboth aren't the same16:05
om26erthe screenshot seems same16:05
didrocksyeah, but to have experienced it once, I'm sure the input window was matching what we see16:05
didrocks(I see it's a race in our undecorate function)16:05
om26erdidrocks, bug 727060 was also the old bug you reported16:06
ubot5Launchpad bug 727060 in unity "Damage events not received when chromium opened automaximized" [High,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/72706016:06
om26erwasn't that also related?16:06
didrocksom26er: so, this one is indeed related to bug 76043616:06
ubot5Launchpad bug 760436 in unity (Ubuntu) "Window display shifted" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/76043616:06
didrockswhere the input is shifter16:06
didrocksshifted*16:06
didrockson the other bug (I unduped it), the focus/input is fine16:07
didrocksit's just that we undecorated on maximize after compiz set the size of the window16:07
didrocks(but the input corresponds to what is drawn)16:07
om26erhmm hmm16:08
om26ercomment#9 in bug 760436 sounds similar to bug 763791 description16:10

ubot5Launchpad bug 763791 in unity (Ubuntu) "Windows which were maximized and minimized are unminimized incorrectly" [Medium,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/76379116:10
om26erI guess once one of them is fixed we'll know if the other is the same or not ;)16:11
jcastroDBO: I don't know how to quite reproduce this16:20
jcastrobut every once in a while a launcher tooltip will just hang around16:21
DBOyeah I have heard about this16:21
didrocksjcastro: do you wrong keynav color appearing as well? (or sometimes, quicklist appearing)16:25
jcastrosometimes I get a white glow on my top icon for seemingly no reason16:26
jcastrohaven't seen a quicklist yet though16:26
didrocksjcastro: I got the white glow (and quicklist sometimes) just down, but the tooltip (I saw that too), doesn't seem to be related :/16:27
jcastroright, they don't seem to be16:27
jcastroI've been getting the tooltip off and on for a long time16:27
jcastrothe glow thing is only recently16:27
didrocksright16:27
didrocksit's due to a compiz change16:28
didrocksthe tooltip, let me have a look if I can see anything obvious in the code…16:28

davidcallekenvandine, I got some news on the lenses. When a 1 or 2 sec delay is introduced before the daemon loop (to preload some stuff), it fails to register at unity startup. That's what Stefano is doing and if I try the same thing, my lens fails at statup too. That's quite logical, but here is a confirmation.16:39
kenvandinedavidcalle, ah... interesting16:43
=== bregma is now known as bregma|walkies
jcastrodidrocks: from the apps lens, try to drag an application to the desktop, do you get some dumb error dialog?16:58
didrocksjcastro: there was a crash which has been fixed, by not dumb error dialog though16:59
didrocksjcastro: is it displayed by nautilus?16:59
didrockslike, you can click through the launcher and so the dnd happened in nautilus?16:59
jcastroThere was an error getting information about "/".17:01
jcastroThe specified location is not supported17:01
jcastrolooks like a nautilus window17:01
didrocksjcastro: yeah, so it seems that you can click through the launcher17:03
didrocksDBO: in case you didn't notice, we still have some cases of that issue ^^17:03
didrocks(particularly on edge reveal)17:03
DBOyeah I saw that17:03
DBOits annoying me deeply17:03
didrocksso, the reveal happens, you put the mouse over the launcher and nothing happens, so it hides again17:03
DBOits not click through actually17:03
didrocksI thought we killed it by not spamming too much X…17:04
DBOyou *can* click on something if you click before it hides17:04
DBOits actually a hide state issue17:04
didrocksDBO: hum really? I have no mouse over tooltip appeareance for instance17:04
DBOyep17:04
didrocksDBO: I tried to keep super pressed, hovering with the mouse17:04
DBOthats part of the weirdness17:04
DBOi am not sure what causes it yet17:05
didrocksno tooltip, nothing… click was ending up in nautilus17:05
DBOhad looked at it a bit this weekend...17:05
didrocksno reproducible test case though :/17:05
DBOyeah I get it sometimes17:06
DBOand then debugging is like impossible17:06
didrocksDBO: right. Hum, I'm in a weird state again, the leave event isn't received in the Launcher17:06
DBOi hate that17:06
didrocksthe weird thing is that the LauncherIcon received it17:07
didrocks(no more tooltip)17:07
DBOI am afraid to fix that in nux for fear of triggering other bugs17:07
didrocksDBO: agreed17:07
didrocksDBO: anyway, the day we can fix this leave event stuff, we will remove a lot of hidemachine workaround17:07
DBOyeah17:08

stefano-palazzokenvandine, are you around?18:11
kenvandinestefano-palazzo, hey18:13
stefano-palazzohi :)18:13
stefano-palazzomaybe you can help me, I'm pretty flummoxed18:13
stefano-palazzoMy lens is still not working on login, so, I replaced every print statement with a logging function,18:13
stefano-palazzoafter logging in, it wrote 400 megabytes of logs18:14
stefano-palazzowhat in the name of all that's holy could cause that do you know?18:14
kenvandineugh!18:14
kenvandinewhat the hell!18:14
kenvandinewhat kind of stuff?18:14
kenvandineit is working at login for me18:14
stefano-palazzoit looks like the first few hundred megabytes (yeah..) are just telling me the program has been started, and that the imports have finished18:15
kenvandinestefano-palazzo, like is it looping and printing the same thing?18:15
stefano-palazzokenvandine, towards the end, it looks like it's starting properly, but by that time my computer is completely overloaded anyway18:16
stefano-palazzoit does work for you? maybe I should just dist-upgrade, maybe it wasn't my fault at all? David said something about a long startup time before the gobject main loop18:16
kenvandinedavidcalle noted this morning that if he adds a 1 or 2s delay before the daemon class it fails to load18:16
kenvandinestefano-palazzo, well it worked for me on this login :)18:17
stefano-palazzoright, that's what I was trying to tackle, I have this sort of delay just because I'm downloading stuff18:17
kenvandinebut unity should be able to handle that18:17
kenvandineso if that is the case, it is a bug18:17
kenvandinehowever you should make sure you have the latest unity18:18
stefano-palazzooh good,18:18
kenvandinei think there was some lazy loading stuff18:18
stefano-palazzoI'll take a break (trying to fix it with unity crashing left and right wasn't much fun), create a completely fresh usb disk and check again18:18
kenvandineok18:19
stefano-palazzoI might bug you later (:18:19
stefano-palazzothanks for your help18:19
kenvandinei had assumed the lazy loading in unity fixed it, which i just updated to this morning18:19
kenvandineanytime!18:19
stefano-palazzooh yes that sounds very encouraging18:19

stefano-palazzothat is strange20:05
stefano-palazzoI've just been logging out, I'm going to reboot for good measure20:06
nhainesAre we getting another Unity release today?20:07
stefano-palazzokenvandine, nope, still nothing. Do you have any idea how I might investigate this?20:10
kenvandinestefano-palazzo, dunno... i think we need kamstrup to help debug20:10
kenvandinestefano-palazzo, try this, start the daemon in a terminal20:11
kenvandinethen "setsid unity"20:11
kenvandineand look at the console output20:11
kenvandinesee if you see assertions, like DEE_IS_MODEL20:11
kenvandineon the sections model20:11
kenvandinestefano-palazzo, when i was debugging this the other day, i was consistently getting those assertions that the sections model wasn't actually a dee model20:12
kenvandinewhich made me suspect an offset problem20:12
kenvandinebut i couldn't see where20:12
stefano-palazzokenvandine, mh. I don't get any of those - but neither do I get any search results20:13
stefano-palazzoit was working a minute ago20:13
kenvandinei was getting that when it wouldn't work at all20:14
stefano-palazzothen, when I try to ^C it, it takes five interrupts to quit -20:14
stefano-palazzo(which sometimes happens with threaded code, in my experience)20:14
stefano-palazzomh, the traceback is all socket stuff, it's probably the only the server not responding20:16
ronockenvandine, I think you can go ahead and patch that20:36
