izinucsBelial`: by dashboard do you mean the icon launcher thingy?00:00
izinucsBelial`: ccsm = compiz config settings manager00:00
Belial`the dash is what displays all the apps and let's you search00:01
Belial`it's the semi transparent black screen00:01
izinucsBelial`: ah.. still getting use to all the new acronyms00:01
Belial`when you click the ubuntu logo.00:01
Belial`yeah, i hear ya.00:01
izinucsI'd like to make it smaller too00:01
Belial`took me a minute too.00:01
KM0201Belial`: i don't know i've never called it a dash, i call it the .. side panel..lol.. but dash works.00:01
Belial`http://www.webupd8.org/2011/03/resizing-dash-and-properly-collapsing.html00:02
izinucsActually it called "Launcher00:02
delacBelial`: if you still wonder, it's dconf00:02
Belial`oh thanks, delac00:03
Belial`that's it00:03
Belial`delac, the actual package is dconf-tools, correct?00:04
delacBelial`: I would think so, yes00:04
lucas-argizinucs:00:04
delacBelial`: and the editor is dconf-editor00:04
lucas-argizinucs: nope... still have the problem... any ideas where i can look at to find out whats goin on?00:04
izinucslucas-arg: probably in one of the logs but which one I've no idea00:05
izinucsI'm having issues gaining focus on a window that is overlapped by another window that has current focus.  To get focus I have to click on the title bar of the window in the background.  It doesn't work clicking in the body of the window..00:09
lucas-argrolling back no nouveau... something wrong with plymouth maybe...00:10
izinucs*now* I can get focus by clicking in the middle of a window.. weird00:11
Belial`izinucs, install dconf-tools, then alt+f2 dconf-editor, then go to desktop > unity and over to the right change form-factor from automatic to "desktop"00:12
Belial`izinucs, that will shrink down the dash00:12
izinucscool00:12
izinucsBelial`: "unable to locate package dconf-editor"00:13
Belial`dconf-tools00:13
izinucsDOH! .. sorry 'bout that00:13
Belial`np00:13
Belial`and if you want to go fullscreen, it keeps a resize arrow at the bottom right hand side.00:14
Belial`of the dash board00:14
izinucsBelial`: ok.. did all that.. and no change.. how do you save the option?00:15
Belial`you clicked the ubuntu logo in the top left corner and it's still displaying fullscreen?00:16
Belial`i didn't have to save anything. it works the same way gconf-editor does.00:16
Belial`it's instant.00:16
izinucsBelial`: well.. it's the same it's always been.. about 1/2 screen00:16
Belial`ah, ok...i thought you said it was fullscreen.00:16
Belial`that's about as small as you're going to get it at this point.00:16
izinucsBelial`: no.. just trying to make it  smaller still00:16
* izinucs steps away to go back to work.. 00:17
izinucsirssi has got to have one of the worst man pages in existance..00:47
KM0201you might be able to use the cups package.00:48
rwwhence the documentation that the manpage points to.00:49
KM0201oops00:49
IdleOnethe man page may suck but irssi docs are impressive00:50
izinucsagreed00:50
IdleOneI don't even use irssi00:50
izinucsIdleOne: It's great when you can split a tty or termial horizontally with irssi on one half and cli on the other for diagnostics00:51
IdleOneizinucs: I prefer a GUI irc client00:51
IdleOnebut I am able to give credit where it is due and irssi has beautiful documentation on their site.00:52
IdleOneso stop your moaning and read the fabulous docs :P00:53
IdleOneoverlay-scrollbars, how can I restart them?00:55
IdleOnethey seem to go bye bye in xchat when I open the prefs menu00:55
IdleOnebug already filed00:55
Belial`was there suppose to be jump list style options in unity's launcher?01:00
Belial`or was that just addons or a concept?01:00
mwcarrollhow would I downgrade my php version from 5.3.5 to 5.3.401:11

xiambaxIm raging over here01:34
frybyehi - in evoloution I entered a new account and have had not chance to enter the password for this account cos now evoloution hangs on starting, apparently when trying to access the new account that it has no password for?? any idea??01:34
lucas-argxiambax: i did it... dont use it... gnome 3 isnt that great...01:35
lucas-argi like unity better01:35

erichammondYay, natty lets me use all 4G memory by default without having to install a different kernel.01:46
KM0201erichammond: yay...01:53
erichammondTook me a bit of work to figure out how to get more than four workspaces in unity, but otherwise I'm already productive after a couple hours of use.01:56
torchiedosfsck reports logical sector size is zero02:06
torchieam I gonna have to boot into windows to chkdsk this or something02:06
frybyemy question: different approach - is there some way to manually edit a *?*.cfg file or similar to add the pw to a new mail account in evoloution?02:08
tonyyarussofrybye: No.  Those are stored in encrypted form in the Gnome keyring manager, which is a binary file.02:10

frybyetonyyarusso: how can I enter a pw for a new mail account when the evoloution freezes before the pw-window comes up??02:11
bin_bashSo I can't load pidgin because libpurple is broken. how can i fix this02:11
KM0201bin_bash: lol, lib_purple is broken?02:12
bin_bashyeah02:12
frybyetonyyarusso: right now I opened it with evoloution --offline - and was able to delete the new account and so get use of the other two existing acocunts - but..?02:12

bin_bashok02:13
bin_bashremoved02:13
frybyetonyyarusso: well it seems to just try and access the new account and gets stuck.. as you notice I dont have all that much background linux knowledge...02:13
KM0201bin_bash: go here, and follow the instructions to add the pidgin PPA, and then reinstall pidgin...02:13
KM0201http://pidgin.im/download/ubuntu/02:14
KM0201bin_bash: you might have to install gdebi, has its not installed by default02:14
tonyyarussofrybye: It shouldn't "get stuck" - it should fail gracefully.  That's a problem unrelated to your password.  (If you don't have much background, why are you using an unstable pre-release?)02:14
bin_bashI think I have gdebi02:14
KM0201ok02:15
frybyetonyyarusso: there are ways of course to monitor what is going on - I am using natty to learn more...02:15

tonyyarussofrybye: Have you searched bug reports for you issue?02:16
tonyyarusso*your02:16
frybyetonyyarusso: I am not sure precisely what the problem is - search for a bug report under "evoloution freezes" will not get me far I guess...02:16
bin_bashi can't find gdebi02:16

KM0201bin_bash: now, sudo apt-get install pidgin02:17
frybyetonyyarusso: ok - makes sence.. thanks - will give it a try...02:17

freaky[t]also they say the alternate installer works - 1. can i resize partitions with the alternate installer 2. can i run the alternate installer from the ubuntu11.4 beta2 desktop cd (the normal CD)?02:35
KM0201freaky[t]: the alt. cd and normal cd, are differet.. so the answer to 2, is no.. yes, the alternate installer can resize partition (during the install process)...02:39

tonyyarussofreaky[t]: How many partitions do you have?03:37
tonyyarussoIf you already have 4 primaries that would explain it.03:37
freaky[t]yes i seem to have 4 primary?03:38
freaky[t]what to do?03:38
tonyyarussoDelete one of them and make logical partitions instead.03:38
freaky[t]damn i cant do that :( i dont know which partition is what03:38
tonyyarussoLesson learned:  Document!03:39
freaky[t]i dont understand y i ahve that many partitions ...03:41
freaky[t]it only displays me two partitions03:41

freaky[t]yes and what do i have to do now :(03:43
freaky[t]this means i cant install ubuntu?03:43
tonyyarussoYou can, but you'll need to figure out what partition to delete first.03:44

Belial`KM0201, how is it?03:55
xiambaxcan someone please show me how to get this gnome ppa to work03:56
KM0201Belial`: its fine... i've used fedora before..03:56
KM0201freaky[t]: so create an extended partition03:56
Belial`well, i mean gnome 3 specifically.03:56
KM0201Belial`: oh, gnome 3.. fedora isn't running gnome 3.03:57
KM0201its normal old gnome03:57

freaky[t]KM0201, the partitioner wont let me. if i resize my one primary partition of d: and i select the newly free space it tells me only where it starts and where it ends03:58
KM0201freaky[t]: hmm.03:58

KM0201freaky[t]: whats a pitty?04:00
Belial`KM0201, fedora 15 beta isn't using gnome 3? or you're using 14?04:00
freaky[t]KM0201, that i cant install ubuntu04:00

xiambaxthey are all gnome3 related packages04:02
KM0201Belial`: sorry, using fedora 14.. just looked.04:02
KM0201i didn't bother to download the beta04:02
KM0201or i should say, i didn't notice i didn't download the beta,...lol04:03
KM0201:)04:03
KM0201freaky[t]: now.. you should be able to create an extended partition off the free space, and then create logical partitions on the extended partition04:03
freaky[t]i allready have 4 primary partitions04:04
KM0201.. i understand that04:04
freaky[t]the partitioner doesnt show any options i have but displaying where it starts and where it ends04:05
KM0201freaky[t]: are you on the installer, or on the program Gparted?04:05

tonyyarussoKM0201: An extended partition counts as a primary.04:06
KM0201hmm04:06
KM0201you'd think there would be a way around that04:07
tonyyarussoSure - stop using technology from the 1980s :)04:07
KM0201lmao04:07
KM0201freaky[t]: so i guess the other question is, why do you have so many partitions?04:08
tonyyarussoThis is what UEFI and GUID is for.04:08
freaky[t]i only get displayed two partitions in win704:08
tonyyarusso4 is not that many partitions - I routinely have more tha that.04:08
freaky[t]KM0201, but i think one partition is for the setup .... for the guys from acer to save money for installation cds04:09
freaky[t]the only thing i could do is04:09
freaky[t]move all 200GB to my first partition04:09
freaky[t]and completely delete D:04:09
KM0201..04:09
Scunizifreaky[t]: if you need more than 4 primary partitions you'll have to delete one and recreate it as an extended partition.. then you can create more partitions within the extended partition..04:09
KM0201Scunizi: thats what we were just discussing..04:09
freaky[t]b04:09
freaky[t]and do what Scunizi  just said04:09
freaky[t]but i have set all my user data dirs to be in d:04:10

zinadorkI believe that opensuse supports it05:24

zinadorkI made the mistake of buying on ebay without seeing a unit in person05:27
zinadorkI otherwise like it05:27
hifizinadork: but anyway, if you're comfortable with testing the xorg-edgers ppa, it might provide you with the necessary functionality05:27

hifizinadork: I suggest using natty, the maverick packages are old05:29
hifiseems they follow the latest ubuntu development version currently only05:29
nit-witaboSamoor, you don't need to run it in chroot, not sur I would to be honest read the instructions05:29
nit-witaboSamoor, do you have the grub2 wiki link05:30
aboSamoornit-wit: I read many tutorials and I got stuck with this error "grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for /boot/grub (is /dev mounted?)."05:31
nit-witaboSamoor, are you sure you need to chroot in is it just the mbr that needs loaded05:33
hifizinadork: be prepared to revert the ppa if you end up with a broken xorg05:33
zinadorkI am going to run it on a live usb before I install in on my unit.05:33
aboSamoornit-wit: not sure, what happens is the following that updating some packages makes the system unbootable and grub gives chunk descriptor error, so I use LiveCD to probe the problem, sometime things get fixed without some clear way, this time I am out of luck05:34
nit-witaboSamoor, any other installson the hd besides natty05:35

andyccOh, nevermind, restarting the LiveUSB fixed it. ^^09:41
zolwdios_mio: is it alright in classic?09:42
Ergo^hello, im running 11.04 beta - and ive noticed "weird" behavior when it comes to wireless [Ralink RT2870] - when i ping my router sometimes ping is few ms but there are moments when i get 1500ms ping to router etc. i did not observed it  in 10.0409:42
dios_miozolw, well I can t really change anything because I cant see what the icons are.. they appear messed up09:43
zolwdios_mio: is that the icons in the launcher along the left?09:45
Ergo^http://paste2.org/p/1373591 - this is how my ping looks like, and sometimes i got network disconnects ~2 times a day - it never happend in 10.0409:47
dios_miozolw, well the bar on the left as well as the bar on top.. it is all messed up.. only desktop is ok..09:48
zolwdios_mio: try in terminal "unity --reset" and "unity --reset-icons"?09:51
dios_miozolw, ok i will try09:51
jo-erlendI wonder how left-handed people like Unity. It's very nice for right-handed people, but if you use the left hand for the mouse, then it might be cumbersome, I think.10:00
zolwin what way cumbersome?10:04
jo-erlendzolw, well, it's very dominated by super-num, super-w, super-s, super-t, etc. Those work very well with the left hand, but if that hand is busy with the mouse, it's less comfortable ... I'd imagine.10:06
zolwfair point. thats more a keyboard design floor though tbh - should have one both sides!10:08
xskydevilx Is there a way to restore the Nautilus file manager to the original (default) state?10:08
zolwxskydevilx: something like this? http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=87860610:14
xskydevilxzolw: No, I was thinking is there a way to revert it back to the defaults because I had some toolbars, buttons and all changed and I want it back to the defaults.10:18
zolwxskydevilx: hmm not sure then sorry10:21
jo-erlendxskydevilx, you can always create a new account and copy Nautilus' settings?10:22

KM0201brb, hopefully from gnome 3 live 114:40
KM0201!14:40
yofeldoesn't change the fact that both unity and gnome-shell are replacements for gnome-panel, not all of gnome14:40
ManDayshell...14:41
KM0201yofel: of course.. iw asn't saying you weren't right.. just saying that gnome 3 shell did break unity.14:41
jo-erlendManDay, they _are_ shells.14:41
yofelKM0201: yes, since -shell depends on gnome3, so it's no gnome-shell that breaks unity, but installing gnome314:41
ManDayshell...14:42
jo-erlendManDay, it is _wrong_ to call Unity and Gnome Shell DEs. They are not. Gnome is a DE which now has several shells, including Gnome-panel, Unity and Gnome Shell.14:42
ManDaycall it an application launcher14:42
ManDay:P14:42
yofelManDay: bash is a shell for linux, unity is a shell for gnome. Think about it and you'll realise it makes perfect sense14:42
ManDayfine14:42
ManDayso panel, xterm, unity, they are all shells14:43
ManDayso is bash, sh, zsh14:43
ManDaycsh14:43
jo-erlendManDay, xterm is not a shell. It is a terminal emulator.14:43
ManDayits also a shell14:43
ManDayby your def :P14:43
yofelno, xterm is a terminal emulator that runs a shell (bash by default)14:43
yofeldefault for us anyway14:44
ManDayyes14:45
ManDayand by your def its also a shell14:45
jo-erlendno...?14:46
ManDayit can do *things* for you14:46
ManDayhence its a shell14:46
ManDaythats your rather vague definition14:46
ManDayanyway, pointless discussion14:46
ManDaythanks for your info14:46
jo-erlendManDay, reference?14:46
freaky[t]anyone can help me with logitech G35? it is set up and shows up under audio devices, and then again disappears, and reappears, and disappears and that allt he time ...14:48
KM0201now this isn't to bad14:51
KM0201i guess the ubuntu version of gnome 3 (or gnome shell, whatever you want to call it) was just buggy, cuz the live cd is far, far better14:52
KM0201sorry about that14:53
KM0201the right click/desktop function is gone.. that seems strange14:55
KM0201everybody go quiet?14:59
jo-erlend:)14:59
KM0201ok, thought maybe i smelled or something.. :)14:59
jo-erlendI haven't checked out gnome shell in quite a while. I'm downloading an opensuse based live image now. It'll be exciting to give it a go. But I think it's a little bit off-topic for this channel.15:01
jo-erlendalthough comparisons might be useful.15:01

BluesKajyup15:38

KNUBBIGAdditionally, I got the Creative X-Fi drivers installed but now my mic is either not working at all or just repeating what I'm hearing in teamspeak. Any ideas?15:39
freakyy[t]BluesKaj, do i have to restart for this?15:39
bullgard4Update Manager offers a major Update (> 140 MB). Will the result be Natty Release Candidate?15:39
yofelI don't think we have a RC this time. And the release images are built tomorrow, so I guess that's just a pretty large regular update15:40
bullgard4Ah! Thank you for your information.15:41
freakyy[t]BluesKaj, where to go now ive removed pulseaudio but now how to add the device?15:41
freakyy[t]i went to system settings/hardware/sound15:41

yedek_p2someone can help me please ? :(15:44
bullgard4!ask | yedek_p215:45
ubottuyedek_p2: Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-)15:45
yofelhe already asked15:45
yofel[16:25:32] <yedek_p2>  i use ubuntu 11.04 beta2 updated. How can i make the gnome-panels to do not start any panel on startup. Because i use awn as default panel. ?15:45
KNUBBIGI saw that the top panel colour depends on the theme I chose, but on what appearance option exactly? It's unreadable for me at the moment and I'd like to change that :)15:45
eagles0513875hey guys15:45

eagles0513875woooohoo broken xorg15:49
delacyedek_p2: on Unity desktop you can't alter panels. You need to use Classic desktop. You can select it form the login screen.15:49
eagles0513875yofel: tbh im suprised canonical hasnt put to use wayland yet15:49
yofeleagles0513875: wayland is in the archive, but there are almost no graphics driver for it yet - how do you expect to use that?15:49
yofelI don't care anyway since I'm on nvidia15:49
eagles0513875im on an intel chipset on my netbook nvidia on desktop15:50
yedek_p2 yedek_p2: i already use classic desktop. (i have open ofcorse the unity but i dont use it). Now i am on classic desktop and i will not change it anymore. what should i do now ?15:50

yofeleagles0513875: well, what does /var/log/Xorg.0.log say?15:50
eagles0513875ill check on reboot15:50
delacyedek_p2: the panels keep coming back even if you remove them?15:51
yedek_p2 delac: no i did not remove them. i need to make the panels do not open (not to remove them because dependencies...) on startup of gnome classic. (i can make on ubuntu 10.1 as default panel the awn, but there is no the same options on the ubuntu 11.04 . I mean this option: gconfeditor --> Gnome > Session > Required Components ...15:54
eagles0513875yofel: i cant decipher anything in regards to xorg issue im having mind if i pastebin it for you to take a look at15:54

yofeleagles0513875: true, no hint, any crash file in /var/crash/ that you could file?15:57
eagles0513875yofel: in the mean time im gonna see if gnome works to rule out the desktop being the issue15:57
yofeleagles0513875: *when* does it fail?15:57
eagles0513875nope nothing in crash15:57
eagles0513875at boot up it never loads the login screen15:57

spacebug-is there no way to att "places" to the launcher? No way to add launchers to the top panel? No way to get the bottom panel with apps running? No way to autohide the laucnher to the left?16:07
spacebug-add*16:07
yofel"Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) Pineview GM" - haven't heard of that one yet..16:08
yofelspacebug-: the launchpad should auto-hide for maximised apps, you can't change the panels, and you need indicators if you want to add anything to the panel16:09
yofels/launchpad/launcher/16:09
eagles0513875yofel: ya thats it16:09
zniavre_ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/173.14.30/     > nvidia updated 173.14-30  legacy drivers16:09
yofelzniavre_: rather post that in #ubuntu-x ^^16:10
zniavre_sorry i thought it was also a good place in here for ppl like me waiting this one since weeks16:10
spacebug-yofel: ok :( maybe time to get kubuntu16:11
yofelzniavre_: sure, but if you ping Sarvatt he can put that into x-updates asap16:11
yofelspacebug-: you can use old gnome-panel if you select ubuntu classic on the login screen16:11
spacebug-yofel: yeah, but not in 11.10 I heard16:12
eruditehermithey, can anyone help me with getting my touchpad to work? Scrolling and middle click don't work16:12
AlkarexHello, I need to make a quick demo to illustrate that Ubuntu 11.4 supports multitouch (with a multitouch 3M screen). Does anybody know a multitouch-enabled application on Linux? For instance, is there a Linux version of the classical paint demo drawing several fingers in different colours when they touch the touchscreen? At least, I would need an application illustrating a 2-finger zoom, but I find nothing for Linux. Any idea?16:12
AlkarexSomething equivalent to Paint in Windows 7 (which is multitouch), or similar to the many demos available on e.g. Android16:13
Weemshow do I switch to standard gnome?16:14
Weemslog out and choose another mode?16:14

eruditehermitit will just remember your last choice16:15
WeemsI don't need it?16:15
eruditehermitthe anser is yes you can16:15
eruditehermitremoving unity will remove the package16:15
eagles0513875yofel: turns out this is a super nasty bug with kdm16:26
yofel:S16:26
eagles0513875ya gnoem loads fine16:27

eagles0513875apw: are you around16:28
apweagles0513875, ?16:28
eagles0513875apw: found a kernel issue with the sru kernel 2.6.38-9 seems like something happens with the kernel on gnome16:28
eagles0513875i got a crash of some sort16:28
eagles0513875gonna report the problem now16:29
yofelkdm works fine on my intel card though, so guess that's a hw-specific issue16:29
eagles0513875yofel: coudl be as well16:30
LarsTorbenubuntu is cool16:30
eagles0513875apw: it seems like there is some sort of kernel loops cuz its saying the report can also be reported to kernelloops.org16:30
apweagles0513875, ok so let it report a bug16:31
dios_miois "unity" a GNOME thing? or did ubuntu developers develop this?16:33
yofelubuntu developed that16:33
Pici!unity16:33
ubottuUnity is a shell for GNOME, but it is not GNOME-shell. See http://unity.ubuntu.com and http://www.jonobacon.org/2010/10/31/unity-some-further-clarification-points/ for more information. Have a question, check http://askubuntu.com/questions/tagged/unity16:33
dios_miothanks16:33
BluesKajsorry freakyy[t] , I was gone for a while ..how's the headset working ?16:37
dios_miowhy is it that "unity" wont work if I dont install my video card drivers?16:39
yofelit uses compiz, if you don't have the drivers for it you could try to install unity-2d16:39
yofelor use ubuntu classic16:39
eagles0513875yofel: if i installed ubuntu-desktop should kubuntu-desktop been uninstalled16:39
dios_mioisnt unity a bit too much in the fantasy land?16:39
eagles0513875O_o16:39
yofeleagles0513875: no....16:40
eagles0513875dios_mio: no its alot like the kde netbook version but much better16:40
eagles0513875odd it seems to have removed it for me16:40
eagles0513875well at least i cant login with gdm there is no kubuntu option16:40
yofelsome dependencies might conflict then though, I don't have ubuntu-desktop installed here (it conflicts with xubuntu-desktop at least)16:40
yofelbut no, it doesn't want to remove kubuntu-desktop on install16:41
eagles0513875i have the apps still from kde16:42
eagles0513875but no option to choose kubuntu16:42
eagles0513875also yofel16:42
yofelis kdebase-workspace-data installed?16:42
eagles0513875after a logout and log back in unity fails to load16:42
yofellol16:42
eagles0513875first login works like a charm 2nd login no desktop16:43
yofelcheck /var/crash/ for a compiz crash16:43
eagles0513875wow not working still O_o16:44
eagles0513875yofel: no compiz crash logged in /var/crash16:45
yofelno idea what doesn't happen then16:45
eagles0513875and kdebas-worspace-data is installed16:46
yofelodd, then 'KDE Plasma Workspace' should be an option in gdm16:46
LarsTorbenubuntu is cool16:47
LarsTorbenis ubuntu natta stable ?16:47
yofelno, not until the 28th16:47
LarsTorbenno i meant is it usuable16:48
LarsTorbeni know not stablwe16:49
LarsTorbene16:49
hardcoldLarsTorben: You said stable. What do you equate "usable" to?16:49
yofelsome find it usable, some don't, get a live disk and try for yourself16:49
eagles0513875lol16:49
eagles0513875and atm for me unusable16:50
LarsTorbenok16:50
LarsTorben:D16:50
eagles0513875yofel: i dunno what else to do desktop wise :(16:50
LarsTorbenbut do you think eagles051387516:50
hardcoldFor me it is barely usable and highly unstable16:50
LarsTorbenit will be fixed16:50
LarsTorbenif it is not untill now16:50
LarsTorben?!16:50
yofeleagles0513875: install xubuntu, that works fine here16:50
eagles0513875LarsTorben: they some how manage to pull something outa their back side to make it stable enough16:50
hardcoldI don't think the final release will be much different16:50
kippihey16:50
kippiI installed 11.04 and all went fine, I then did the updates yesterday and now my machine gets stuck on the ubuntu loading logo. If I boot into recovery mode it gets stuck when you get the options, anyideas?16:50
eagles0513875yofel: dunno why i feel like the same issue will arise though16:50
eagles0513875kippi: same here on kde with kdm16:51
yofeleagles0513875: it did work fine for me 2 days ago16:51
yofelbut then again, so did kde for you16:51
eagles0513875yofel: ok ill give it a shot but i think the updates yesterday screwed up something big time16:51
LarsTorbeneagles0513875: HAHA16:51
eagles0513875first big issue i had was with kernel panic and my wifi card which seems to be fixed in the first sru release of the kernel a week after release16:52
kippieagles0513875: and if you boot back to a older kernel do you find thing like wireless etc are not working?16:52
hardcoldI wanted to try something different than OSX for fun, and so I could get a cheap and light machine ($398 for an x120e) but I'm already trying to figure out how to put OSX on this so I have a usable and stable OS16:52
eagles0513875now all of these other stuff due to updates from yesterday and today broke things badly16:52
eagles0513875hardcold: try ubuntu or kubuntu 10.04 if you want linux and rock stable linux16:52
hardcoldeagles0513875: 10.04 doesn't work well on the x120e16:53
hardcold11.04 is supposed to work better than that on this16:53
kippieagles0513875: have you got close to a fix?16:54
eagles0513875hardcold: you tried 10.1016:54
eagles0513875kippi: well i tried gdm and gnome it worked for a sec but unity fails to load going ot try xubuntu now16:54
eagles0513875will also try the classic version of gnome just for grins16:54
hardcoldeagles0513875: I have not tried 10.04 or 10.10, as the wiki says it does not work well16:54
kippihmmm16:54
LarsTorbenhardcold16:55
kippiI guess the best thing to do is to wait for more updates?16:55
LarsTorbenrockstable is debian16:55
LarsTorbenbut think ubuntu is okay16:55
LarsTorbeni16:55
hardcoldTo me rockstable means 0 crashes a year16:55
LarsTorben!enter | LarsTorben16:55
ubottuLarsTorben, please see my private message16:55
hardcoldI'm coming from OSX so I have a very different idea of what stable means than windows users16:56
hardcoldI've had 2 crashes in 3 years with my MBP16:56
LarsTorbenhard i can recommend Kubuntu 11.04 amd 6416:56
RoastedDoes anybody know if the dual screen bar movement bug has been fixed?16:56
hardcoldI've had about 50 crashes in 4 days with Ubuntu16:56
Roastedwell, not a bug I guess. but feature implemented.16:56
Roastedwhat constitutes a crash?16:57
jo-erlendhardcold, in 11.04? Does that surprise you?16:58
hardcoldjo-erland: it surprises me very much, yes16:58
jo-erlendhardcold, that a software that isn't released isn't stable?16:58
hardcoldjo-erland: that a software that will be final with a couple more packages in 8 days is not stable?16:59
hardcoldyes, that surprises me.16:59
* genii-around ponders 11.0616:59
jo-erlendI've had two crashes with 10.04 since it was released. Both of the times, the proprietary ATI driver was to blame. I had a few crashes in 2007 though.17:01
hardcoldjo-erland: I17:01
hardcoldm under the impression that this only works with old hardware17:01
jo-erlendthis?17:01
hardcoldThe x120e has been out for several months, but I'm getting the impression your computer must be at least 2-3 years old to run linux17:02
hardcoldthe guys that says, "everything works great on my machine" have 5 year old computers17:02
jo-erlendhardcold, that's just wrong. It often has support for hardware long before it's out in the open.17:02
hardcoldIt's free, so I can't really complain, but just saying my experience17:03
jo-erlendbut obviously, if the hardware vendor doesn't write drivers and if they don't release and specs, then it's difficult to make software work with hardware.17:03
eagles0513875interesting normal gnome works fine yofel17:03
eagles0513875unity is borked17:03
KM0201eagles0513875: any idea what happened?17:04
eagles0513875KM0201: no17:04

jo-erlendhardcold, what kinds of problems do you have with the x120e?17:04
BluesKajeagles0513875, on which machine ? netbook or pc?17:04
hardcoldUnfortunately, this uses AMD cpu's so I can do the simple OSX install with iBoot and my Snow Leopard DVD17:04

hardcoldcan't17:04
eagles0513875BluesKaj:17:04
yofeleagles0513875: don't have unity installed there, but it did work once when I did some beta2 iso testing17:04
hardcoldI need a modified OSX that supports AMD17:05
eagles0513875humm ok17:05
dios_miounity blows, imo17:05
eagles0513875well it seems like its loading but lots of cpu  processing just to load17:05
eagles0513875ok now its working17:05
eagles0513875kippi: if you want a fix install ubuntu-desktop package17:05
eagles0513875kippi: testing with xubuntu now17:05
eagles0513875yofel: should i file a bug regarding not seeing kubuntu listed when using gdm17:06
BluesKajeagles0513875, I doubt that netbook HW supports 3D graphics in general , Unity  requires it17:06
IdleOneneed some help with Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP61 High Definition Audio (rev a2) was working fine just 15 minutes ago and now I have no sound17:06
eagles0513875BluesKaj: its working just takes time to load17:06
jo-erlendhardcold, OS X doesn't even support AMD processors? Seems like a horrible operating system.17:06
eagles0513875also kippi xubuntu works as well17:06
eagles0513875jo-erlend: its not on the right hardware17:06

eagles0513875yofel: there is the netbook version but you can also tell it to use the desktop version the plain jane kde look17:08
eagles0513875which works flawlessly17:08
yofelI do have some opengl issues with my netbook though, I need to disable several effects or kwin goes down to like 0.5 FPS17:08
eagles0513875and yes there is a kde-plasma.desktop file17:08

bjsnidereagles0513875, small joke. thought maybe you had a feline stuck inside the crackbook17:09
hardcoldjo-erland: in order of importance, 1) frequent crashes, 2) wireless issues (inability to connect to network 90% of the time), 3) setting up dual monitors doesn't work well, 4) audio programs [banshee/rbox] makes awful noises when connecting to radio streams and can't add them to a playlist, or even add them to the radio thing in banshee's case, must get the URL and enter everything manually, 5) clicking on and closing any menu c17:09

lcbAs of a beta release TO beta testers, it's reasonably stable. As of usability testing, i.e., how's this release being tested by regular users, of course,  on the 28th we'll have the final result - the complaints are good for developers as of what hardcold just did. In meanwhile is my impression we'll get downs and ups, until things are fixed and adapted to general usage. that's why is beta.some might argue, well beta should be on finals. That's incorrect, a17:10
lcbbeta release could make a complete feature code to be reviewed. ( i didn't type anything today.. so, i'm done - over & out)17:10
hardcoldI enjoy learning knew things, and I am learning a lot with ubuntu, but at the end of the day I'd also like a functional OS on this computer17:11

jo-erlendhardcold, it helps if you use tab completion or write my name properly so that I get highlighted. But yes, it's difficult to support hardware without any help from the manufacturer. AMD is horrible when it comes to drivers.17:12
jester7Anybody here using Gwibber?17:13
BluesKajhardcold, well, in general a beta OS , not expected to be a stable OS , even tho it appears to be so for a lot of ppl17:13
BluesKajjo-erlend, I was reading recently the amd has assembled a teaam to tackle the ati linux driver problem17:15
jo-erlendBluesKaj, sounds nice. It's about time, I'd say.17:15
BluesKajyup, they've fallen behind since amd bought ati , jo-erlend17:16
jo-erlendyes, I've noticed. :)17:16
hardcoldjo-erlend, I read that 11.04 worked well with this hardware before I bought it17:18
hardcoldjo-erlend, like I said, I think Linux needs 2 years to work on a machine, so when 12.10 comes out, it should work well17:19
jo-erlendhardcold, on the laptop testing page, or just somewhere on the web?17:19
jo-erlendhardcold, that just isn't true.17:19
hardcoldjo-erlend, on the thread for this machine on ubuntu forums and the ubuntu wiki on this machine17:20
jester7hardcold: Closer to 1 year, I think17:20
jester7that's what I waited on my laptop. it's pretty smooth now17:21
jester7Seriously though, nobody using Gwibber on Natty?17:21
jo-erlendsince 2006, I don't think I've had any problems with any of my new computers. The only exception is the ATI Radeon HD5850 on my desktop. I always buy new stuff and I test on lots of new computers. Most of them work very well. I've had to install drivers for VGA and wifi on some of them, but other than that, they've been fine.17:21
hardcoldjo-erlend, only listed issue was hibernate, which was not a big deal to me17:22
trismjester7: I am, it would help if you asked a question about it though17:22
hardcoldjo-erlend, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/X120e17:23
jo-erlendhardcold, did you download a beta or a daily image?17:25
hardcoldI installed beta 2, and have updated each day since17:25
hardcoldI realized that the updater requires me to "check" everything though, otherwise it doesn't show updates17:26
jo-erlendhardcold, ok. It's possible that regressions have been introduced. Have you filed bugs?17:26
jo-erlendhardcold, check everything? I don't understand.17:27
hardcoldjo-erlend, in Update Managerthere are two options, "Install Updates" or "Check"17:28
hardcoldIf there is a connection issue when you open it, it will forever say there is nothing to be updated, so you must "Check" everything17:28
jo-erlendright. It updates itself automatically and periodically and notifies you when there are updates available, but if you want to do it manually, then you have to check manually too.17:29
hardcoldjo-erlend, back to testing, though, when I open the system testing app it immediately says there is a serious kernal problem and my machine will be unstable and to report it17:29
jo-erlendgreat. Then let's hope it'll be fixed before release. :)17:30
jo-erlendcause you did report it?17:30
hardcoldjo-erlend, yeah, let's hope ^_^17:30
hardcoldjo-erlend, it says there are no updates now, but I'm sure there must be, so I am checking everything now17:31
hardcoldjo-erlend, for the reporting I click through everything until it brings up a webpage17:31
hardcoldthat has sent all the appropriate info by that point, yes? Or do I need to sign up for an account on that website and handwrite everything as well?17:32
jo-erlendyou don't need to handwrite anything, but I think you do need a launchpad.net account.17:33
hardcoldjo-erlend, I installed the alephone beta 2 yesterday and that works well so I'm happy about that17:36
hardcoldWhen I got my machine on Friday, the first thing I tried to do was put alephone on this, coz_ helped me through that mostly17:37
hardcoldfor the beta install it was simple, as I understood what was going on17:37
jo-erlendI don't know what that is.17:38
hardcoldsome people seem averse to simple explanations of things, but ubuntu is really targeted at new users to linux os it's an illogical attitude.17:39
hardcoldjo-erlend, alephone? It's the open source release of the Marathon trilogy from bungie17:40

genii-aroundAh, old Mac stuff17:42
hardcoldjo-erlend, message about?17:42
jo-erlendhardcold, a very long message about simple explanations and new users to linux.17:43
jo-erlendbut yes, I agree. Any explanation should be as simple as possible, but not simpler. I don't think that has anything to do with linux or ubuntu, really.17:44
hardcoldIs there a way to not have bluetooth turn on at startup?17:52
hardcoldI turn bluetooth off, but it does not remember that setting an turns itself on at each login17:52
jo-erlendthat sounds like a bug to me.17:53
hardcoldjo-erlend, is it? I figured it was SOP17:53

ceed^Anyone tried running Google Earth on natty? Fonts looks really messed up, hardly readable.19:05
coz_ceed^,   I have not ,, but then I uninstalled natty for this week anyway19:06
bhaskarhey all, is this the right place to ask if I have questions about Unity?19:06
coz_picca,  oo I didnt notice that at all ,,19:06
coz_bhaskar,  it sure it19:06
coz_is19:06
ceed^coz_, you tried Google Earth and the fonts looked okay?19:06
coz_ceed^,  no I have not yet  sorry19:06
piccacoz_, it seems it isn't just Nautilus ... shows Bj├╢rk with a regular ls listing19:06
ceed^ah ok, wonder if it has to do with the nvidia driver. I will try and install it on a natty machine with intel graphics and see if it works.19:07
coz_picca,  ooo19:07
bhaskarcoz_, cool thanks, I just want to know whether Unity is separate from Gnome or it's just a shell that runs on Gnome? Also is Gnome available in Natty by default for people who don't want to use Unity?19:07
coz_bhaskar,  well you can uninstall unity easily19:08
zolwunity runs on gnome, classic mode is "gnome" without unity19:08
coz_bhaskar,   I prefer  classic gnome... anyone with a monitor larger than 15"  is wasteing time      with Unity19:08
bhaskarcoz_, yes that's what I feel too, it's too 'netbookish'19:09
zolwtrue...good with shortcuts though19:09
coz_bhaskar,  well the biggest issue with Unity is global menu ,, it will considerably slow down work time by at least 1/3  with monitors larger than 15"19:10
bhaskarzolw, so it would be right to just call Unity a shell rather than a full desktop environment?19:10
coz_bhaskar,   unity does have the advantage over gnome3  in that mutter has been replaced with compiz  ,, a far superior compositor19:11
dios_miounity blows! (do you get that often?_19:11
zolwbhaskar yeah as far as i know it is a shell for the gnome environment19:11
bhaskarcoz_, I'm yet to try out  gnome3, but looking at the videos it looks pretty cool! :D19:11
coz_bhaskar,  gnome3 is a real resource hog19:12
bhaskarzolw, cool thanks for the answer :)19:12
bhaskarcoz_, well it figures since it's so new19:13
coz_bhaskar,  new ?  well sort of,,  last year I tried it with the same results19:14
coz_bhaskar,  in all honesty compiz is a far superior  compositor  in every respect19:14
zolwunity is pretty good if you wanna run something quickly though, since you can press metakey, type the first few letters of the program press enter and it will run it for you19:14
bhaskarcoz_, maybe since it's more mature?19:14
coz_bhaskar,  well no.. its just a bad compositor ,, had they stuck with going towards  "clever windows"  concept for gnome3  they would have had a running chance of competeing with compiz19:15
coz_bhaskar,  just google   gnome3   clever windows  video19:16
bhaskarzolw, yes but it's a pain if you don't know the program's name, the list doesn't show all programs (for me at least)19:16
bhaskarcoz_, thanks I'll check it out :)19:16
bhaskarok time to go, laters and thanks for the help :)19:18

lcbgolden, put like this in mr google and see what is there.. " Compiz (opengl) - Fatal: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing"20:05
hardcoldI just noticed the overlay scrolling is gone. Was this removed in the latest updates?20:05
goldenalready try, there are too much, not related to unity, problems20:06
lcbgolden, my impression is that double files are conflicting20:06
goldenhum ok20:06
lcbgolden, but it seems is not an unity thing, only compiz20:06

JeroenMRhytmbox does the same right?20:07
hardcoldIt's internet radio, not even a different file20:07
hardcoldYeah, Rbox does the same thing20:07
hardcoldIsn't there a global setting in Unity?20:08
hardcoldI should be able to decide which apps spew shit and which don't20:08
JeroenMYeah there must be some general notification config file or GUI20:08

lcbhardcold, no, that would answer you a lot of the dozens of questions and doubts you put here last couple hours :)20:12
hardcoldlcd, are you confusing me with someone else?20:12
hardcoldlcd, what are these "dozens of questions" that would be solved with a list of keybaord shortcuts?20:13
hardcoldor one for that matter20:14
lcbhardcold, i did past you that link about an hr ago, then you had one of the crashes and probably you didn't see it20:14
torchiehuh.20:14

torchienow if only it would dual-indicate the battery percentage properly and not shut down when I unplug it for five minutes20:16
nononicknickis there any effort or talk about incorporating the application menu into the unity menu. Like the older style menu20:18
lcbnononicknick, as far as i know, not20:18
torchiehmm apparently there's a bios update for the dv600020:19
nononicknickits not very user friendly, and the menu shown in the right hand corner of the unity menu is.. ugly20:19
nononicknicknot very useful20:19

KM0201there were a ton of updates last night, and also several this morning.20:21
nononicknickand not very useful20:21
lcbgolden, must of updates last night messed a bit with the environment, in some strange ways20:21
KM0201libre office has been updated extensively 3x the last 3 updates (or so i've noticed)20:21
KM0201lcb: what do you mean?... i've not noticed anything weird really20:22
lcbKM0201, about ah hour ago, yes20:22
goldenwhat's the command to check if the graphic acceleration works?20:22
nononicknickwhen the final release is dropped, is it recomeneded to just keep updating from beta, or should you do a fresh install ?20:22

KM0201hmm, well i'm running another round of upgrades now, so we'll see...lol20:22

zolwNalf: Can you not adjust the level with your arrow keys then?20:50
Nalfzolw: Yes.20:50
robin0800Lemmiwinks, annoying but I found this would not work If you ever save the session it appears in this case the panel is locked in20:50

mekeorKM0201: in "classic"-gnome you have 2 panels (top+bottom), in unity you have a dock there <<--, and a panel here ↑22:16
buzz_phibxr, ok rather than whinging ive debugged it a bit now, and i think it shoudnt be too hard to fix.22:16
KM0201nevermind, it was in compiz-config... step21   the side panel...22:16
KM0201mekeor: ok.. wanted to make sure i wasn't crazy22:16
mekeorKM0201: i talk about the standard-config...22:16
mekeorKM0201: :)22:16
lcbKM0201, you're not, don't worry - yet22:17
KM0201i was like.. is this ubuntu classic?.. and i've missed it the last 5yrs?22:17
KM0201but anyway, to 'dock' it.. so it doesn't auto hide, its in the unity plugin in compiz-config22:17
KM0201for anyone interested22:17
step21KM0201, oh yeah, that is in ccsm22:18
step21lol22:18
KM0201lol22:18
mekeorccsm???22:18
* KM0201 thinks step21 will drive him to drink22:18
lcbbtw, grub menu now has one more option, to force check filesystem22:18
step21KM0201, I'm cool with that22:18
mekeorCompizConfig Settings Manager22:18
KM0201mekeor: yeah, compiz-config   i didn't hav a problem shorthanding that.22:19
hardcoldkm0201, is there a command to unhide it, in such a case (like option+D in OSX?)22:19
hardcoldor I should say hide/unhide22:19
KM0201hardcold: don't know, i prefer it be "docked" so i've never tried that.. i imagine if you went through ccsm, you'd possibly find a  ikeyboard shortcut for it.22:19
hardcoldkm0201 one issue with the keybaord shortcuts I've found is they use the windows key22:20
step21also ... why doesn't taking screenshots work with unity? I just get the standard wallpaper with a cursor22:20
step21hardcold, there is22:20
KM0201hardcold: yeah.. can you manually set them in keyboard shortcuts?22:20
hardcoldkm0201 and I have the control keys mapped to alt keys22:20
KM0201hardcold: i see.22:20
hardcoldhowever, this does not switch them, it just makes them both control keys...22:21
KM0201step21: screenshots should work fine...22:21
hardcoldand windows key becomes alt22:21
hardcoldso I have no windows key22:21
step21default to show launcher dock and select first item is alt+F122:22
KM0201step21: http://imagebin.org/14933622:22
hardcoldstep21, cool, and how to hide it?22:23
lcbdamn KM0201 you don't need to shot the monitor just because you have some crashes22:23
hardcoldstep21, km0201 was talking about preventing it from autohiding22:23
mekeordoes anybody have an idea, why i get an error with apport (and apport-gtk) while installing ANYthing (or updating) (with "sudo apt-get install XYZ"/"sudo apt-get upgrade")??? :(22:23
hardcoldI would also prefer that, to hide it when I want, but otherwise leave it there22:23
KM0201lcb: i was desperate  :)22:23
lcbhehehe22:24
KM0201hardcold: it annoyed me auto hiding, cuz sometimes i would try to click something, and it would go away... i prefer it docked... but.. different strokes for different folks.22:24
step21hardcold, just move away or escape I think22:24
skyjumperanyone else's boot messages not have a linefeed after each line?22:24
hardcoldkm0201, I know exactly what you mean, has driven me batty more than once22:24
hardcoldkm0201, it's like the launcher is laughing at you22:25
KM0201mekeor: its a bug.. i've been getting it as well (and saw several others mention it)22:25
hardcoldor playing a peekabo game22:25
KM0201hardcold: lol, exactly.22:25
yofelmekeor: enable apport again in /etc/default/apport (enabled=1) and run dpkg --configure -a22:25
mekeorKM0201: does a solution exist?22:25
mekeoryofel: ???22:25
yofelan official fix is on the way22:25
yofelmekeor: that's the workaround22:25
mekeoryofel: i'll try it22:26
lcbskyjumper, i had that too in one of the installations. it will go away. i guess it's related to graphics or fonts.22:26
skyjumperlcb: good to know22:26
hardcoldstep21, we are talking about making the launcher permanently shown, but an option to hide on demand22:26
step21KM0201, you don't have a special program for screenshots right? maybe it's virtualbox's fault http://imagebin.org/14933722:26
hardcoldOUR demand, that is22:26
skyjumperanyone know how to enable a progress bar for bootup fsck'ing?22:26
step21hardcold, mmh. okay. but no idea22:26
mekeoryofel: THX very much!! :)22:27
KM0201step21: i think it must be vbox's fault.. http://imagebin.org/14933822:28
KM0201yofel: how do you "enable apport"?22:29
yofelKM0201: edit /etc/default/apport with sudo, set enabled=122:29
KM0201wait nevermind, i see22:30
KM0201yeah, i actually missed the part where you gave the path22:30
step21stupid vbox :(22:30
KM0201step21: its cool for testing.. but not for every day use.. (at least IMO)22:31
KM0201yofel: that fix came out fast.. that just started a few hours ago.22:31
KM0201uh oh, ubuntu wallpapers just got an upgrade..lol22:32
yofelKM0201: well, it was a critical but, as that broke for *everyone*22:32
KM0201sudo apt-get dist-upgrade22:32
step21yeah, but for certain reasons I often have to use a certain other os anyway, so it's easier to just run linux apps from vbox, because if they crash or do something weird I don't have to care22:32
yofel*critical bug22:32
KM0201yofel: true.22:32
KM0201you know, ubuntu has come a long way w/ wallpapers, since the crap brown ones of pretty much 6.06-7.1022:33
hardcoldKM0201, I've always made my own desktop pictures22:34
KM0201hardcold: well.. i usually jsut scoured the internet for mine.. but man, Ubuntu's default ones were awful.. nowdays, they aren't so bad..22:34
hardcoldany idea how to turn bluetooth off, and keep that setting after restart, KM0201?22:36
KM0201hardcold: not a clue, i saw you ask that earlier and was trying to find an answer, and couldn't come up w/ anything22:37
hardcoldk22:37
hardcoldKM0201, I found a thing on turning the applet off from the startup items, but that does just that, althouth the person thougyt it disabled bluetooth! I tried it, but of course bluetooth was still enabled22:38
KM0201hardcold: right..22:38
KM0201i'm really not sure, don't really have any bluetooth stuff.22:39
phibxrdid the functionality earlier provided by the screen brightness applet find a new home in Unity, or is it gone? my laptop doesn't have functional screen brightness buttons. :/22:43
lcbhardcold, try this. ' sudo edit nano /etc/rc.local ' then add: rfkill block bluetooth22:45
lcbhardcold, try this. ' sudo nano /etc/rc.local ' then add: rfkill block bluetooth22:46
mongywill gnome3 be available after natty release?22:52
yofel!gnome322:52
ubottuGnome 3 is not currently supported on Ubuntu. A PPA is available at https://launchpad.net/~gnome3-team/+archive/gnome3 but these packages are _experimental_, _unstable_ and may break your system.22:52
mongyk22:52
jester7I have a weird thing going on where after I login for the first time after a reboot, it will kick back to the login screen after about 1 minute.  Logging back in stays that way until the next reboot.23:00
jester7I don't even know where to start with that.23:00
step21any way to remove gwibber/email applets from the top right in unity?23:08
mekeorstep21: yes23:08
mekeorstep21: but i unfortunately dont remember ;P23:08
mekeor... dont remember _how_...23:09
mekeorstep21: look at /usr/share/indicators/messages/applications/ (or sth similar)...!23:10
step21mekeor, I assumed as much ^^23:10
mekeorand there delete the files23:10
mekeornot all, of course..23:11
mekeorand maybe make a copy...23:11
KM0201mongy: just from personal experience, i woudln't use that PPA23:11
mekeordoes anybody know, whether there is a X-conf-file which says Xorg how to start my fluxbox (or whatever…)??23:12
jester7Does anybody here actually use gwibber?23:14
mekeorno one?23:14
mekeorjester7: me, not. ;P23:14
KM0201jester7: negative23:15
KM0201jester7: i would think if there wsa an "app to go" to make the ISO smaller, gwibber would have to be at the top of the list..lol23:15
mekeordoes anybody in here use fluxbox, too?23:15
step2mmh. didn't work ... gonna try more tomorrow, way too late now ^^23:16
KM0201i know ubuntu's goal is to keep the ISO's sized to fit on a CD, but you gotta think eventually that is gonna be impossible.23:16
step2KM0201, they can always drop libreoffice ... kinda pointless on the livecd as well imho23:16
jester7I think that's half the problem of why I can't find answers...nobody uses the damn thing.23:16
jester7Facebook simply does not work in Gwibber...23:17
jester7I don't mean '23:17
KM0201lol23:17
jester7"some things" or "it acts weird"  I mean it's non-functional23:17
* KM0201 has never even been to faebook.com23:17
jester7that...says a lot23:17
step2jester7, I don't even use evolution to check my mail, but just the website ... though for work I use outlook/exchange23:19
freaky[t]KM0201, u there?23:20
jester7step2: I was able to remove the evolution one by removing evolution-indicatior23:20
jester7evolution-indicator23:20
KM0201freaky[t]: affirmative.. for af we more minutes23:20

freaky[t]it's a headset23:21
KM0201blue tooth/23:21
KM0201?23:21

step2well usb is also kinda tricky, right?23:22
freaky[t]i dont know i need help ;(23:22
KM0201well, i don't know your answer, but you must be a serious audiophile.. those are expensive.23:23
KM0201my $14 skull candy earbuds work great for me... :)23:23
freaky[t]yea i know their expensive ;)23:23
step2freaky[t], did they work before?23:23
freaky[t]before what? no i just installed natty on my desktop pc cant tell if it worked before23:24
freaky[t]they never worked23:24
freaky[t]they just disappear/reappear all the time in the sound hardware list23:24
step2freaky[t], I meant f.e. in an earlier ubuntu version23:24
freaky[t]cant tell23:25
KM0201gotta roll all, be back in a while.23:25
step2freaky[t], well google said it worked ootb in 9.10 :) so should work now ... can you select it when you go to sound settings?23:26
freaky[t]yes i can select it for a few milliseconds then it disappears again from the soundsettings ... then it reappears again andt hat all t he time23:27
freaky[t]step2 can u help me? :)23:29
step2freaky[t], only if google knows sth. Otherwise maybe you could file a bug? It should really work on a fresh install. Or just try a different port?23:32
=== CuddleKing is now known as SudoKing
step2freaky[t], you could also try looking at logs, see if there is an error23:35
step2f.e. type "dmesg" in a terminal after it disappears and see if it gives an error23:36
skyjumperanyone using nouveau on natty?23:37
freaky[t]step2, ok wait ill reboot into ubuntu now and test it23:38
freakyy[t]step2, i get this: http://pastie.org/181724123:44
freakyy[t]in dmesg23:44
skyjumperbetter question, anyone able to use nouveau *without* a "[drm] failed to open device"?23:46

freaky[t]step2, i changed the usb port ill now restart my pc23:57
