GrueMasterso, NCommander stepped in to help and see what the problem with the installer was.  And it didn't fail.  Nothing changed, I reflashed with the same image & same cmdline to the same SD card.  Booted on the same panda.01:42
* GrueMaster is very frustrated.01:42
=== asac_ is now known as asac
iceberg303I'm having an issue booting 10.10 on a pandaboard, but the nightly build of 11.4 boots but isn't stable. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on?03:36
diwicogra, any news about omap4 sound?08:42
=== x201 is now known as panda|x201
ogra_diwic, well, ndec told me yesterday that capture doesnt work yet, seems the jack is configured as mono line in, so mics dont work.09:56
diwicogra_, and we're unable to reconfigure in software?09:57
ogra_apparently09:57
diwicogra_, fair enough, do you have a possibility to test the mono line in then?09:58
ogra_i'm not sure if/how my mp3 player would work on it and i need to find a matching cable first09:59
diwicogra_, line out connections are optimal to loop into a line-in, but headphone outs suffice as well.10:00
ogra_well, that still requires a cable ;)10:01
ogra_i know i have one but dont know where10:01
arun_with the natty images, is hdmi audio on  the pandaboard expected to work?10:24
ogra_i dont think anybody has had the ability to test that yet10:26
ogra_we are currently focusing on getting analog audio to work10:27
ogra_diwic, cable found, i can record mp3's just fine playing them from my phone11:29
ogra_diwic, so HiFi and Record are the verbs we want11:29
ogra_diwic, udev rules tested too11:35
diwicogra_, so we have working recording also? Great! Will you attach the udev rule patch (preferrably as a debdiff) to the bug and poke TheMuso to upload it?11:51
ogra_diwic, well, the soundcard rules are all in udev not in alsa11:52
ogra_i just pinged pitti about it in -devel11:52
diwicogra_, in fact if you make your own udev rule file you can put it in any package you want11:53
ogra_i think adding the two lines to /lib/udev/rules.d/78-sound-card.rules is the right thing to do11:53
ogra_diwic, my prob is that i dont have any arch specific package i could put it in11:54
diwicogra_, ok11:57
diwicogra_, so now we have realized we can have working playback and recording without the PA patches. So then the question is, what do we gain from having the PA patches in?11:58
diwicogra_, (especially if the PA patches can't even set a verb correctly...)11:59
ogra_diwic, heh, you are behind, see the bug :)11:59
ogra_i already commented about that, pulse can wait for O or go into a SRU if anyone has a plausible explanation why we need them12:00
ogra_pitti says the udev rules need to come from alsa :/12:00
ogra_(since it ships alsaucm and the rules exec that)12:01
diwicogra_, yeah, I agree12:01
diwicogra_, I'd try 90-alsa-restore.rules12:02
diwicthat ships with alsa-utils12:03
ogra_ah, i was thinking to actually have 90-alsa-ucm.rules12:03
ogra_from scratch12:04
diwicthat works just as well for me12:05
ogra_smells cleaner to me12:05
diwicyep, go for it12:05
diwicalthough that add/change logic of the soundcard initialization is mindboggling.12:06
ogra_i'm trying a file with just the two lines12:07
arun_ogra_, gotcha. thanks for the info.12:07
* ogra_ twoddles thumbs while the panda reboots12:07
ogra_yup, works fine12:09
diwicogra_, as for the HDMI audio, you don't have an hdmi-audio capable monitor for testing?12:11
ogra_i have to re-arrange my whole setup to have the panda on my tv12:12
diwicogra_, ok, and I have to go in 30 mins :-)12:12
ogra_and HDMI can well be an SRU12:12
ogra_if there is even one needed12:12
ogra_hmpf, how does alsa-utils install the rules file12:13
ogra_diwic, do you mind if i just put the file in the debian dire and cp it in place from debian/rules ?12:15
ogra_*dir12:15
arun_i can give it a shot. my panda's connected to my tv.  i'd have to re-image my sd card though. i was playing around with various linaro images.12:15
diwicogra_, I'm trying to figure out how the udev rule file gets there12:15
ogra_seems the restore file is handled by autotools, i really dont want to add complexity12:15
ogra_its in the Makefile of alsactl12:16
diwicright12:16
diwicyeah, I guess an "install -d" in debian/rules would do12:17
ogra_right, no extra autofoo run :)12:17
* diwic is going to add a AC_MESS_UP_FOR_DISTRO_MAINTAINERS macro in autoconf. It is not difficult enough to get it right12:18
ogra_heh12:20
ogra_bah, sigh ... tetex is a build dep to even roll the source package12:25
diwicogra_, hmm, as an option you could submit a merge proposal against lp:~ubuntu-audio-dev/alsa-utils/ubuntu.natty12:26
ogra_doe sthat look ok ? http://paste.ubuntu.com/596500/12:28
diwicogra_, hmm, missing specification of desired file mode perhaps12:30
diwici e permissions12:30
ogra_like that http://paste.ubuntu.com/596504/ ?12:32
diwicogra_, hmm, it doesn't exactly look like what I'm used to but probably it's correct anyway12:36
* diwic has to go12:36
ogra_well, it ends up in the right place12:37
ogra_with the right perms, i just did a testbuild12:37
ogra_diwic, would you mind if i uploaded ?12:37
* ogra_ would love to have the bug closed 12:38
diwicogra_, oh I see now, you are not filtering out subsystem, add/change etc in the udev rule12:38
ogra_well, there will only be one device with that ID12:38
diwicogra_, I'll be back in 2-4 hours or so12:38
ogra_but i can add the headers that are used in the soundcard rules12:38
ogra_ok12:38
ogra_do you want add/change etc ?12:39
* ogra_ adds the lines from the other rules fine and tests 12:40
=== doko_ is now known as doko
diwicogra_, reviewed your merge proposal, please fix14:22
* ogra_ checks14:22
ogra_weird14:24
ogra_diwic, hmm, i dont have any such changes in my local branch and http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ogra/alsa-utils/746023/revision/75 doesnt show any of the bits you mention14:26
* ogra_ wonders if he used a wrong master branch 14:26
diwicogra_, please remove the ENV{SOUND_INITIALIZED} in 90-alsa-ucm.rules14:28
diwicIn best case, it's superfluos :-)14:29
diwicor maybe I could just do that for you and merge it into the alsa-utils branch :-)14:30
ogra_new branch pushed, indeed i didnt pull originally from the right branch14:31
diwicbeen there, done that :-/14:31
ogra_http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ogra/alsa-utils/746023/revision/8914:32
diwicogra_, I removed one more line, could you verify it's still working? See https://code.launchpad.net/~diwic/alsa-utils/ubuntu.natty15:24
ogra_will do, that takes a moment though since i'm just verifying a bug on the headless image15:26
ogra_look sane though15:28
ogra_*looks15:28
ogra_grr15:39
ogra_so after trying to boot an omap headless image for 20 min on the panda i found that the omap MLO doesnt work on omap4 :P15:40
* ogra_ shakes his head about wasting his own time15:40
GrueMasterheh.15:41
ogra_well, at least we know now :P15:41
ogra_GrueMaster, when you had that flash-kernel issue, did that happen when you manually upgraded a linux-image package or was that a regular dist-upgrade15:42
GrueMasterBoth apt-get install & dist-upgrade.15:43
ogra_hmm15:43
ogra_might be the old "flash-kernel isnt run when update-initamfs -c is used"15:44
GrueMasterI thought that we were told that it needs to come from the kernel?15:44
ogra_GrueMaster, for now i only have bug 746023, bug 747229 and 766764 on my release radar15:45
ubot2Launchpad bug 746023 in alsa-utils "No sound on omap4" [High,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/74602315:45
ubot2Launchpad bug 747229 in debian-installer "weird color change during oem-config debconf package removal step in serial installs" [Medium,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/74722915:45
ubot2Launchpad bug 766764 in linux-ti-omap4 "flash-kernel not run during kernel upgrade" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/76676415:45
ogra_am i missing anything important ?15:45
GrueMasterWhich type of beer to bring me to UDS.15:45
ogra_GrueMaster, the kernel package wasnt changed in natty, i added a spec idea for exactly that prob15:46
ogra_so -c still doesnt work15:46
ogra_but that should actually only affect release to release upgrades15:46
GrueMasterThat is bug 701698.15:49
ubot2Launchpad bug 701698 in boot "update-initramfs -c does not update the bootloader" [High,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/70169815:49
ogra_yep15:49
ogra_that requires massive redesign of the whole arm bootloader handling15:50
ogra_which is why i want to make it a spec15:50
GrueMasterGo for it.16:04
ogradiwic, works fine, go for it16:12
diwicogra, TheMuso, ok, I've test-built and test-run it on my machine here, and it didn't seem to have destroyed anything, so pushed to lp:~ubuntu-audio-dev/alsa-utils/ubuntu.natty - upload at will.16:59
ogra_wohoo16:59
=== diwic is now known as diwic_afk
ogra_diwic_afk, TheMuso, uploaded, thanks17:13
ogra_GrueMaster, just dist-upgraded a beta2 image to todays archive, no issues with flash-kernel18:11
GrueMasterI think there are other packages that force update-initramfs -u.18:12
ogra_might be18:12
GrueMasterTry installing everything that dist-upgrade recommends, except the kernel.  Then do dist-upgrade.18:12
ogra_to late :)18:13
GrueMasterI'll try it here to verify in a little bit.  Currently wiping/reformatting my SD.18:13
ogra_\o/18:14
ogra_alsa-utils is in18:14
ogra_and python-apt too18:14
ogra_so sound and sources.list should be fine now18:14
GrueMastercool18:14
GrueMasterNow if we could just get another daily image to build...18:15
ogra_we only have the serial colors left (which is really minor cosmetic) and the üpossible flash-kernel thing18:15
ogra_archive is messed up due to the last minute fixes18:15
ogra_that will settle until tomorrow18:15
iceberg303I have the 10.10 ubuntu on a 4G sd for pandaboard(omap4) and things were ok till I did an update. Things started taking forever to boot and to log in, then I installed the ti omap extras and now it takes about 15min to boot and 30+min to log in.  I can wipe the card and go back no problem but every time I get the same results.  Is there a list of things that should not be updated?20:09
jayabharathogra_: there have been a few reports on natty beta's not working on pandaboard's are there any known major issues that you are aware of... before I go give it a run20:17
billfarrowHey, is anyone using the genesi efika mx smartbook ? are you happy with it ?20:37
billfarrowI was looking for a new netbook, and this looked interesting since I am already developing for an i.mx processor at work.20:40
davidmjayabharath, as best I know we are good to go on B220:44
davidmjayabharath, it's quite late in ogra's neck of the world20:44
GrueMasterjayabharath: The only thing I really am aware of is random issues with the SD cards.  Sometimes I'll get SDIO errors during oem-config, other times oem-config will just crash mid-install.  Nothing to indicate why.  Reflashing usually clears it up.20:55
GrueMasterI am working on a theory, but since the issues I am seeing are so random and hard to reproduce, it is harder to have a good testcase.20:55
jayabharathGrueMaster: davidm I see.. thanks21:20
jayabharathlet me look up the recent thread on pandaboard ml for reference21:20
GrueMasterhttp://groups.google.com/group/pandaboard/browse_thread/thread/aa46ddf46df2d94621:21
GrueMasterAlready commented on it.  :)21:21
jayabharathGrueMaster: u r faster .. yeah this was one...21:21
GrueMasterI had it open.21:21
jayabharathlet me then try b2 image and see if it works ok for me.. thanks!!21:22
TheMusoogra_: Thanks.22:36
