psaldendo I need to relog or so in order for the theme manager to recognize the newly placed theme properly12:59
psaldenit seems right now only the gtk part is recognized12:59
psalden(can't just try and relog atm as I'm doing a huge download :P)12:59
Sysiwindow manager theme is set from window manager settings13:00
Sysimetacity or emerald themes dont work with xfwm13:02
psaldenwell yeah... thing is the themes apparently have a part for gtk+2 and xfwm4... it recognizes only themes with a gtk+2 dir and then applies like half of the theme, so I figured it's not recognizing the xfwm4 part13:03
psaldenoh right, a different sppot in settings :)13:03
Sysiyou are maybe missing some gtk-engine if themes don't work properly13:05
psaldennah I found out by your first statement... I need to apply the windows manager themes elsewhere, 'appearance' is not enough13:05

nykurhello, is this where one might find some xubuntu help?15:13
charlie-tcayes15:14
charlie-tcaPlease ask your question all in one line. All of us are volunteers and will attempt to answer if we know.15:14
nykurnice, I was wondering about my update manager in natty, getting hash sum mismatch on the repositories. Haven't added any new though.15:15
=== `mOOse` is now known as m00se
nykurhere is my error message at pastebin: http://pastebin.com/cqXdRKWH15:25
charlie-tcaeverything is updating pretty quick for natty, since we are trying to build final candidate images. I suspect you happened to hit right during a mirror update15:27
charlie-tcaI would try again15:27
nykurmy connection is fine and I have tried disabling and re-enabling repos. Also tried different servers15:27
nykurI had this yesterday as well15:27
charlie-tcagetting it right now?15:28
nykurhang on...15:28
nykurcharlie-tca: yes getting the same error now.15:29
nykurhave the keys gotten messed up maybe?15:30
charlie-tcano, I think the mirror is out of date/in the middle of trying to sync. I use us.archive.ubuntu.com and it is fine15:32
charlie-tcaYours is is.archive.ubuntu.com and appears to be failing15:32
nykurI tried both my icelandic mirror and the main server, same results.15:32
nykurshould i try the us one for now?15:32
charlie-tcaweird, maybe the key is messed up, somehow15:33
charlie-tcasure, try the us one, just to see if that is it15:33
nykurmust be, what's the cmmand agin to reimport it?15:33
charlie-tcasure, ask me that. I don't know the name. I change my lists manually in /etc/apt/sources.list15:36
charlie-tca!sources15:36
ubottuThe packages in Ubuntu are divided into several sections. More information at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories and http://www.ubuntu.com/project/about-ubuntu/components - See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RecommendedSources for the recommended way to set up your repositories15:36
charlie-tcadoes that tell?15:37
nykurcharlie-tca: Changing to .us from .is seems to have solved this, will use that mirror until .is has been synced. Thanks:-)15:44
charlie-tcaYou are welcome15:44

scanniehi. i'm running xubuntu beta on a netbook... i installed maximus so i get maximized-windows with no titlebar, it works great. however, when i close firefox and open it again, it gets maximized but with the titlebar. if unmaximize it and maximize it back again the titlebar gets removed as it should... any advice?15:55
asfozhi. i'd like to install xubuntu 11.04 beta 2. will i have a lot of packages to upgrade after April 28 (xubuntu 11.04 stable comes out)15:57
asfoz?15:58
asfozand, after upgrade, my system will be clean as "normal" installation of 11.04-stable?15:58
charlie-tcaIf you install 11.04 daily, there will not be a lot of packages to upgrade and it will be clean16:07
charlie-tca!daily16:08
ubottuDaily builds of the CD images of the current development version of Ubuntu are available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ and http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/16:08
asfozyou mean http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/daily/current/ ;)16:15
asfozok, thanks for this information16:15
asfozbtw. xubuntu natty daily iso is 623MB, compared to beta2 684MB....16:16
asfozthey have throw out something?16:16
charlie-tcaAs changes are made, sizes change.16:17
charlie-tcaIf it is really important, you should check each image file by file for the differences, maybe.16:17
charlie-tcathere have been about 100 or more changes a day since beta2, those are reflected in the final cd16:19
asfozcharlie-tca: nice, that's much. how do you personally think- will it be a lot of changes with these 5-6 days?16:28
charlie-tcaIf you install beta2, you should have more than 300 changes to upgrade16:29
charlie-tcaif you install the daily image, there are no changes today16:29
asfozyes I'm getting todays iso16:30
asfozwell, we will see when final release comes out.16:30
charlie-tcaI would expect a couple of hours of upgrades with beta2 right now16:30
charlie-tcatoday's image may be the final image16:30
charlie-tca(may*16:31
charlie-tca* * may * * ; it is subject to change, of course.16:31
asfozI just can't wait for that- have work to do. I'll install today's daily iso and just upgrade to final, if there will be any changes, as you say.16:31
asfozyeah.16:32
jrmyok ive got lucid i think its called how do i make it use my sound card and not my onboard?16:53
jrmy10.0416:54
jrmyits obviously not a simple fix..16:54
jrmyand i guess even though you choose a sound card in alsamixer it doesnt actually pick the sound card.. which is working properly from what i can tell seeing as i can see it in the mixer16:55
jrmyi remember in ubuntu that you could select your soundcards idk why thats not a program in xubuntu16:56
asfozjust rmmod module for onboard card?16:58
charlie-tcathen you should be able to use the same application in Xubuntu to select it16:58
jrmybut what if i want to use my onboard again?17:07

charlie-tcaI don't know the command to close the one you have now, perhaps try task manager to kill it?17:16

theboywithtornSo I pulled out my old toshiba laptop. It has a xubuntu 6.10 on it and the update manager doesn't upgrade and there is no cd drive on it anymore, so I need to upgrade manually.  Anyone willing to help me with this?18:51
Sysihow much ram does it have?18:52
theboywithtornaccording to free, I have 154mb18:54

arandAnyone care to test the patch in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-session/+bug/711571 ?21:34
ubottuUbuntu bug 711571 in xfdesktop4 (Ubuntu Natty) "Xfce Shutdown/Restart doesn't work (logout instead)" [Low,Triaged]21:34
charlie-tcaCan anyone reliably reproduce the bug. I see it about one in 15 installs21:44
charlie-tcaI have seen it enough to say, yes, it exists. I just can't make it happen reliably enough to say if it gets fixed or not.21:45
* charlie-tca is asking in #xubuntu-devel too.21:45
charlie-tcaarand: I see this thing lately on my upgrade tests in 64bit. It will about 3 hours to complete, but if it shows, I will test the patch21:46
arandOk, I had someone in #ubuntu+1 pointing it out, since it was a simple thing to pull down the patch I jumped on it.21:48
arandI don't have a system to test on though..21:48
charlie-tcaI have systems, I just can't get it happen often21:49
charlie-tcaworkaround is easy, too. Just logout and restart/shutdown from gdm21:50
arandOk, hmm, upstream seemed to indicate it happening on logout as well, my wording in the changelog might not be completely accurate then..21:51
charlie-tcaI saw jeromeg's note that he had a fix for it, though.21:51
charlie-tcaWe only see it on reboot and shutdown21:51
arandI madea debdiff of http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfdesktop/commit/?id=bf07cc01b5457067303bdfad93433def548b617221:51
charlie-tcabut if I can reproduce the issue, I can try the patch. It just doesn't happen often for me.21:52
charlie-tcaOn my main machine, running natty since alpha1, it happens every two or three weeks21:52
arandAlways a pain :/21:52
charlie-tcayup, but hard to then say it works21:53
arandI think the guy I spoke to had it happening more often, he had to run ut will hopefully be around to test it..21:54
charlie-tcaAll it does when it hits is log the user out. You are left at the GDM screen, and just have to click the shutdown icon there21:54
charlie-tcaThat would be good. I did thirty some installs for beta2 tests, and saw this issue one time21:55
arandHmm, it seems rather different from other reports: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=684188 https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=115507 http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36157121:57
ubottubugzilla.redhat.com bug 684188 in xorg-x11-server "[RV350] Xorg segfaults on reboot/shutdown from XFCE" [High,New]21:57
ubottubugs.gentoo.org bug 361571 in Applications "x11-base/xorg-server-1.10.0.901 segfaults with xf86-video-nouveau when logging out from desktop" [Normal,New]21:57
charlie-tcaI read those, and each one describes the same thing, reboot or shutdown results in sending the user to the login screen, where they can then shutdown or restart from.21:58
=== bazhang_ is now known as bazhang
arandHmm, the redhat one does, yea, but then again it claims it's happening consistently, and there seems to be yet some systems where it doesn't happen at all..22:01
charlie-tcayup22:02
charlie-tcabut the workaround is so simple, it might be a zero-day sru if we can get it tested22:03
arandNo chance to get it in before release by now then?22:04
charlie-tcaI don't know if we can get a freeze exception for it22:04
charlie-tcawait, universe is not frozen yet, is it?22:04
arandI have no idea.22:05
charlie-tcaI don't think we are, so, yes, there is a possibility22:05
charlie-tcamain is frozen now, but universe is not yet22:05
xubuntu452hi everyone, I'm just instulling Xubuntu22:33
