Logan_LjL: why didn't FloodBot1 kick the DCC sender?00:43
Logan_seems somewhat odd00:43
LjLLogan_: because who cares really? they're banned anyway00:43
Logan_heh, true00:43
Logan_I'm surprised at how many people still have that vulnerability00:43
LjLLogan_: but seriously, kicking would be one more line to put into the send queue. and it's mostly a useless line at that. and we want as little stuff in the send queue as possible.00:44
LjLsure i could put it into the slow queue, but.00:44
Logan_mmk00:44
Logan_LjL: do you know how well Gnome3 works on Natty using that PPA?00:49
Logan_I'm considering installing it instead of Unity00:49
m4v!gnome3-#ubuntu+1 | Logan_00:51
m4vbohh00:52
Logan_it's just !gnome3 now00:52
m4vit used to wrok..00:52
Logan_I had Pici forget the one with the suffix00:52
LjLLogan_: i haven't tried it (i don't even have natty), but i did hear rumors it actually broke things for people00:53
LjLIdleOne: maybe i could if i had any access :P00:53
m4vLogan_: one of our ops is using it, without much trouble afaik. But you know is inestable ..00:53
Logan_great, thanks!00:54
m4vhe also told me that using ppa-purge works in case it breaks stuff. But I wouldn't trust it still. Be ready for reinstall ;)00:55
arandI'm wondering if the factoid should specify that it breaks unity, and there is no good safe downgrade path.. Or if that should just be left as implied..00:57
LjLi think it should00:57
LjL!gnome300:57
ubottuGnome 3 is not currently supported on Ubuntu. A PPA for natty is available at https://launchpad.net/~gnome3-team/+archive/gnome3 but these packages are _experimental_, _unstable_ and may break your system.00:57
m4vthe only downgrade path afaik is « sudo apt-get install ppa-purge && sudo ppa-purge ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3 » but I don't know if it is safe or guaranteed to work00:58
LjL!no gnome3 is <reply> Gnome 3 is not currently supported on Ubuntu. A PPA for natty is available at https://launchpad.net/~gnome3-team/+archive/gnome3 but these packages are EXPERIMENTAL and UNSTABLE, will break Unity and possibly other parts of your system, and safe downgrading is not possible.00:58
arand=) It would be more appropriately named !caveats01:00
LjL!gnome3 =~ s/$/ Additionally, they may eat your children and cause demons to come out of your nose./01:00
m4vcome on, be serious!01:01
Logan_hehe01:01
IdleOneLjL: added, thank you for your attention to detail.01:02
IdleOneespecially the demon out the nose part. I was not aware of that01:02

topylitrying gnome3 also inevitably makes either unity or gnome-shell suck terribly08:31
Tm_Tawww08:31
topyliat least everyone who has tried both seems to be forced to post "unity sucks, gnome-shell is awesome" or vice versa on twitter08:32
Tm_Ttopyli: then I refuse to test either, I don't like to behave like that08:32
topyliyeah, think about the damages to the average quality of free software when entire desktops suddenly start to suck :(08:36
cdbstopyli: You don't like Unity/09:26
* cdbs uses both regularly09:26
topylicdbs: i tried it and it was pretty nice, no complaints based on a short trial09:27
cdbstopyli: And what do you say about Gs?09:28
cdbs*GS09:28
topyliit's quite awesome, but i only tested a live cd. not everything worked09:29
topylii couldn't get wifi to work for example, or change keyboard layouts09:30
topyliirc on empathy was also quite amusing :)09:33

FuchsPici: since you seem to be online, can I ask you something regarding the #ubuntu+1 channel?17:05
PiciFuchs: sure17:05
FuchsPici: as far as I am informed you forward people to the regular channel after the new Ubuntu version got released17:06
FuchsPici: if this is correct: how?  With a regular forward bann, masking all masks with *!*@*?17:06
PiciFuchs: No. The channel is +i +f #ubuntu17:07
Fuchsah, +f, didn't know this one. Thanks, we'll try this out :)17:07
PiciLet us know if you need any further help17:07
FuchsWe try it right now, I'll come back to you if it doesn't work. But I just found it in the freenode documentation (guess I used the wrong keywords when I tried to find it) now, so I guess we'll find it out.17:09
FuchsThanks for your help17:09
Picinp :)17:10
GoThatWayHello, can someone help me with my problem after the upgrade? I can't see any menu, i only see the desktop and folders in it... :(17:21
GoThatWayis it the right channel?17:21
k1lGoThatWay: this is not that kind of supportchannel :)  try #ubuntu17:22
GoThatWaywoops17:22
GoThatWayall right thx17:22
FuchsPici: it worked, thanks17:22
k1lor #ubuntu-it for italien17:22
GoThatWaythx very much17:22
arandI am wondering, there are on and off people zealously discouraging people from upgrading... With little motivation other than personal preference and hearsay...17:48
arandIn #ubuntu, that is17:48

topyliarand: it's off topic to begin with17:49
arandYes, true, I guess, though they will obviously claim that they are "helping", well, I guess it's just a matter of taking the encounters...17:51
visharand: i've been using the !ot for such folks, and asking them to discuss there..17:51
arandvish: Yea, that sounds like a good procedure.17:52
JaredisAwesomeI was trying to upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 last night and my stupidass hit shutdown during the middle of the upgrade. Now whenever I boot its telling me I'm missing some drivers, and that Ubuntu is running in low graphics mode (though i cannot make it past that dialogue). Whenever i try to boot into recovery mode it doesn't seem to fully boot properly either. Is there anything i can do to fix this upgrade? Or should I just do18:14
PiciJaredisAwesome: This isn't a support channel, try #ubuntu18:17
JaredisAwesomemy bad18:18
