nerdful_thingsgreetings, I've been changing drives and recordings I put intp my new myth build from the backup drive are not seen in my recordings menu. Recordings being made now are ok. I brought over all files of each title.01:38
nerdful_thingsDo I have to do some database command for the system to see them?01:41
nerdful_thingsOK, I think, I see some info in the forums...01:46
nerdful_thingsDarn, link is empty.01:48
nerdful_thingsOK, I son't really need them in the myth system if  I can watch on VLC. The problem is VLC will open the recording, but does not play, it justs shows the first moment of the video as a still. The play button shows as pause as though it is playing, but the image is frozen to the first frame.01:54
nerdful_thingsI get this in the vlc term window:  libdvbpsi error (PSI decoder): TS discontinuity (received 3, expected 13) for PID 5632.01:55
tgm4883nerdful_things, ok, one thing at a time02:02
tgm4883you brought recordings from an old drive and copied them onto a drive in your new mythtv system02:03
nerdful_thingsyes02:03
tgm4883did you restore the database from your old mythtv install?02:03
nerdful_thingsno, this is a virgin install02:03
tgm4883right, but the recordings from your old mythtv system02:03
tgm4883the database from that mythtv install, did you back it up?02:04
nerdful_thingsNo, I just copied the recording folder over. NM, I don't really need to restore them, as most will be delete3d after I review them.02:05
tgm4883what directory did you copy them into?02:05
nerdful_thingsThe bottom line is I am juggling stuff to make drive space and free up a spare drive.02:06
nerdful_thingsI copied the .mpg, .idx, and i forget the other from the backup to the var/lib/mythtv/recordings.02:06
tgm4883do you still have your old mythtv install?02:07
nerdful_thingsI'd just like to play them on VLC for now, just to review and delete. Usually VLC works well.02:07
tgm4883ok, so mythtv isn't going to see those recordings without them being in the database02:08
tgm4883VLC should play them, so if it's not this isn't really the place to get VLC support02:08
nerdful_thingsOk, let's back up.. (And thanks for helping, btw)... I just made a virgin install from the livecd. I put in all my channels, tweaked the desktop, etc. I wanted to backup the partition to a split file using Clonezilla, etc for a custom install on various boxes.02:09
nerdful_thingsI had recordings stored on backup drives, and just wanted to have clean drives to image to.02:10
nerdful_thingsSo I now don't really care about playing them in myth now that it is more than a folder or permissions thing...02:11
nerdful_thingsThe VLC is puzzling, as it never gives a problem. At the moment, I was looking for Handbrake in the synaptic repo, to shrink any old recordings to archives if any are worth saving.02:13
nerdful_thingsBefore clogging up my new myth install (Only 5.6GB) with something like "the wedding" for the wife tomorrow, I wanted to have a custom clone to re-install later on other machines..02:15
nerdful_thingsPointing me to Handbrake, or even some ffmpg scripts is all I need now...02:16
nerdful_thingsFigured I'd put any important recordings on my rooted Nook android.02:17
tgm4883I don't recall if handbrake is in the official repos or not. I run the daily build from a ppa02:19
tgm4883https://launchpad.net/~handbrake-ubuntu/+archive/ppa02:20
Zinn[launchpad.net] PPA for HandBrake Ubuntu Packagers : “HandBrake Ubuntu Packagers” team02:20
tgm4883https://launchpad.net/~stebbins/+archive/handbrake-snapshots02:20
Zinn[launchpad.net] HandBrake Snapshots : John Stebbins02:20
tgm4883I use the second one02:20
nerdful_thingsI just saw this: http://www.jonathanmoeller.com/screed/?p=2100... but I will now read your advice, thanks!02:21
Zinn[www.jonathanmoeller.com] Install Handbrake On Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat » Help Desk Screeds02:21
nerdful_thingsguess the bot knows about it...02:22
nerdful_thingsI love handbrake on my PCLinuxOS laptop to process stuff for the Nook color.02:23
* Patrickdk installs an iscsi root frontend02:25
mycoDAtgm4883 - not for me but is the an 'official' ppa other than mainline through which one could get an updated kernel for lucid?02:25
mycoDAie get the natty kernel?02:25
tgm4883mycoDA, IIRC there is a kernel backport PPA02:26
nerdful_thingsI forgot I had jumped all those hoops to put handbrake on the install I just wrote over...02:26
mycoDAsomebody on overclockers.com.au wanted to know02:26
mycoDAhad epic argument with newb over me saying i liked my HID remote kb/mouse emulator yesterday02:27
mycoDAturns out he hated HID cos he was trying to run XBMD and mythfrontend at the same time02:28
mycoDAXBMC would grab the keypresses02:28
nerdful_thingswhy someone argue that you like something of yours?02:28
nerdful_thingsoh02:28
mycoDAsome other newb asked what remotes people were using and i linked to it02:28
nerdful_thingshey mycoDA02:29
mycoDAsaying in the post that it is what _I_ use and most people would recommend mce USB02:29
mycoDAyars?02:29
nerdful_thingswern't you helping me other day.02:29
mycoDArings a bell lol02:29
nerdful_thingsI found sound fix.02:29
mycoDAahhhhhhh02:29
mycoDAsorry - giving up smokes - head is a fog02:30
mycoDAremember it was alsa issues on an nvidia mobo, forget which specific issues02:30
nerdful_thingsre-install, (which I wanted to do anyway to make a clone copy), and found out some weird hoops to jump to get alsa running on optical.02:30
nerdful_thingsLet me look at my notes, just FYI...02:31
mycoDAnforce specific hoops?02:31
nerdful_thingsOk, install myth 10.10 a64 from live cd, install my HDHomerun etc. etc. Now th sound...02:32

nerdful_things# after sound ok, I removed all but master pots, and sound stayed ok...02:40
nerdful_thingsI found the pot to zero glitch, after much forum reading and hair loss.02:40
nerdful_thingsNow I want to back up my entire virgin partition, which is now at only 3.6GB.02:41
mycoDAlulwut????02:41
nerdful_thingsyeah, you have to put the iec pot down to zero, then the receiver bursts into life.02:42
nerdful_thingsI was going to throw handbrake in now, but forgot all about the ppa process I totally have forgotten.02:44
nerdful_thingsSoon my virgin install is going to be polluted with wedding tomorrow...02:45
nerdful_thingsI couldn't find space to clone it...02:45
mycoDAtime to reboot an add some more ram methinks02:48
nerdful_thingsSo, any tips on archiving my mythtv "recordings" with Handbrake? Mine are mostly 1080 from HDHomerun.03:26
ShallSeeI just installed Mythbuntu 10.06 (or something) updated to 11.*** and now, I run the setup, but it fails where it should be coming into the graphical setup portion... Anyone help me out?????14:46
ShallSeeand Hi ppl14:46
ShallSeeIs there maybe a way to force the graphical portion... (It's the part where you specify your card and stuff)14:48
tmktdelete /etc/X11/xorg.conf14:48
mycosyswhat video card?14:48
mycosysand - i would have stuck with 10.04 - it is a long term support release14:49
mycosysshallsee - what video card are you using14:49
rhpot1991eh, most of us devs run latest and greatest so lts is over rated14:50
ShallSeeI'm thinking I have a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro14:50
ShallSeewith a Hauppage tuner14:50
ShallSeeIs it actually to do with X???14:50
ShallSeelike, that seems strange... It's the setup, not running on after it does that database stuff14:51
ShallSeeit runs mythfilldatabase, then just sits there doing nothing14:52
mycosysyour video card WILL cause you issues14:52
mycosysif you can get it to work at all with myth14:52
ShallSeewhat does it do if it doesn't work???14:52
mycosysi dont think the proprietary Driver will work with an antique like that14:52
mycosysand even the proprietary driver has issues14:53
ShallSeeI've had this box running linux mint prior14:53
mycosysso?14:53
ShallSeetmkt, You reacon that'll do the trick?14:53
mycosyswhat is its cpu?14:53
mycosysit wont shellsee14:53
mycosysyour gpu is not going to play nice with myth - save yourself much pain14:54
mycosyswhat is your cpu?14:54
mycosyswhat is your tuner?14:54
ShallSeeI got a P4, 3.0, Hauppage tuner, with a ATI Radeon 256 Mb Vid card14:57
mycosyswhat tuner?14:57
rhpot1991HD or SD tuner?14:57
mycosysthe p4 MIGHT be enough14:57
ShallSeeHD14:57
rhpot1991ya thats borderline good enough for HD14:57
mycosysshould be ok then with digital14:57
ShallSeeand even, just want the box as a box14:57
ShallSeeI'm not worried about HD14:57
mycosyslulwut????14:57
mycosysthe hd question is more about analog or digital14:58
rhpot1991ShallSee: so you get to the installer and it hangs at the graphics portion?14:58
ShallSeeI'm just wanting to see it work14:58
ShallSeeYea14:58
ShallSeeit just sits there14:58
mycosysif you had a cheap framegrabber analog it would not be a good enough cpu14:58
mycosysdo you have an onboard intel gpu?14:59
mycosysif so, ditch the radeon14:59
ShallSee(I can feel the need for me to reinstall the setup again, just to try it again)14:59
ShallSeeRadeon is fine... It's a Pro...14:59
mycosysit should cope with you just pulling the ati, this isnt windows14:59
mycosysit sint fine14:59
mycosysradeon drivers for linux are junk, and it is nearly a decade old15:00
ShallSeeHence why it's pro... Legacy is good shit15:00
ZinnShallSee: Please watch your language.15:00
ShallSeeNice bot... :D15:00
mycosyshuh????15:00
mycosysRADEON DRIVERS FOR LINUX ARE JUNK15:00
mycosysthere aRE NONE BEING WORked on for that antique15:01
mycosysIT WONT WORK IN WINDOWS VISTA OR 7 EITHER15:01
mycosysWHY WOULD IT WORK IN MYTH???15:01
ShallSeeI'm not trying to setup for Windows 7????15:01
mycosysffs15:01
ShallSeeIt's a backend...15:01
mycosysPULL IT OUT15:01
mycosysuse nvidia or intel15:02
mycosysati is a showstopper for myth, esp on the open source drivers15:02
ShallSeeThe box is planned as a backend...15:02
mycosysso no issue with having intel gfx then15:03
mycosysyou realise you want decent cpu power on a backend - it doesnt just sit there doing nothing?15:03
mycosysthe database work, scheduling and commercial flagging are not lightweight15:04
ShallSeeYou realise that I don't want HD, I don't need all the functions that are included... I merely need it set up15:04
mycosysyou realise that ATI doesnt work15:05
mycosysand nothing i talked about had anything to do with HD15:05
rhpot1991ShallSee: does the box have onboard video?15:05
ShallSeeNo15:05
mycosysthe only reason you got asked about HD is your machine is too pathetic to handle most SD analog cards15:05
mycosysdo you have an old nvidia card hanging around, even a ruddy tnt?15:06
* ShallSee is aware of the ATI Issues with linux, But I have a card that IS supported...15:06
mycosysthe only reason it can handle recording digital is it doesnt have to do any encoding15:07
mycosyshow can you have a card that is supported? it isnt15:07
ShallSeeI'm only wanting it for the fact that the card, picks up satelite...15:07
ShallSeeI know how to install the card, I'm not a brand new user15:07
mycosysso?15:07
ShallSeeSo???? You been flaming the entire time I'm in here15:08
mycosysmyth doesnt work with the open source ati drivers15:08
mycosysi have not been flaming - you have been condascending toward somebody trying to help you15:08
ShallSeeI'm sure I seen it asking to install the AMD drivers...15:08
mycosyswho has been using *nix for 20 years15:08
mycosysand who has tried what you are trying15:08
ShallSeeI'm hesitant to accept your help as the nature of your pursueing of this issue, is confrontational15:09
mycosysit didnt start that way15:09
ShallSeeIt's also Biased, as would anyone who knows about Nvida, ati and inux...15:09
ShallSeewould be,.15:09
mycosystell ya what - PLEASE go knock urself out15:10
mycosyshave fun15:10
ShallSeeI will...15:10
mycosysget it working - i am sure you are able15:10
mycosysyou will probably have better luck using x forwarding to run mythtv setup15:11
mycosysfrom a machine with working opengl15:11
mycosysmythbackend doesnt need x running at all to run15:11
* rhpot1991 tells everyone to calm down15:14
tmktShallSee: I'd say so...can't hurt15:33
tmktmv xorg.conf to xorg.conf.bak15:33
tmktand reboot15:33
superm1ShallSee, check if you have fglrx installed from the upgrade15:36
superm1you shouldn't, but if you do it doesn't work w/ the 960015:37
superm1so removing it should hopefully take care of your problem15:37
ShallSeeCurrently, I'm reinstalling, and keeping to the 10 rather than updating15:38
mycosyssorry i got so animated - quitting smoking, and was trying to save you a painful experience that i went through too15:39
mycosyshave quite a few o those cards, fortunately also have others lol15:40
mycosysoddly, the intel 915 outperforms the 9600pro15:40
mycosysjust PLEASE dont waste too much time on that ruddy card - your time is worth more than that15:41
jdeslipHi all.  I have a question about the Android remote support.  Is there an official MythBuntu app somewhere?21:42
jdeslipi.e. what is new about this?  There is has been a mythtv remote app in the android market for years already.21:43
tgm4883jdeslip, no, I don't think there is an official mythtv app either21:43
tgm4883IIRC, there are qr codes to install it in MCC now21:43
jdesliptgm4883: Is that it? Just qr code that links to the market?21:44
tgm4883jdeslip, Perhaps, I didn't code that bit so I'm unsure21:44
tgm4883superm1, ^21:44
superm1yeah that's what it is21:47
superm1just raises visibility of what's there21:47
jdeslipsuperm1: Ah ok.  I was hoping it was something more exciting like a new API for remotes in MythTV or something.22:19
jdeslipI'm interested in an http based by API that lets you also view things like the video collection/recordings etc...22:20
tgm4883jdeslip, doesn't one of the apps already do that?22:22
tgm4883mythdroid I think22:22
zuixroHow stable is the 64 bit build of Mythbuntu? I've been using it since I built my new computer, and I've had nothing but problems. I'm wondering if it's my hardware or just the software.22:44
tgm4883zuixro, I've run it without issues for multiple years22:46
zuixrotgm4883, I've been running it for about a month, and I've been strugling to get the backend stable. I had it running fine for a bit, but then it just decided to stop working.22:47
tgm4883zuixro, logs?22:51
zuixroHere's a complete session that ran for a couple of hours: http://pastebin.com/1htvWTRM22:52
Zinn[pastebin.com] 2011-04-29 08:52:44.228 mythbackend version: fixes/0.24 [v0.24-250-g56c54fa] www - Pastebin.com22:52
zuixroI also have a "verbose all" log from a session that lasted a couple of minutes. I'll post it in a minute22:53
zuixroErm... Turns out it's 23MB, which I think is too big for pastebin22:55
zuixroOk, it broke pastebin, but here's a link to it: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/409453/mythbackend.log22:58
jdesliptgm4883: I didn't even know mythdroid existed since it is not on the market yet.23:03
