[05:58] Hope anyone based North Shore way is okay [21:01] morning all [21:03] mornin [21:08] morning [22:29] mumblemorning [22:29] seems an update for nvidia is broken in Natty [22:29] what breaks? [22:30] the ability to get anything useful on the screen [22:30] after rebooting? [22:30] yeap [22:30] the updates that happened yesterday [22:31] did the reboot and nothing on the screen .. well apart from the moment the ubuntu logo with the dots under appears [22:31] did dkms not rebuild the kernel module? [22:32] you may be able to check /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see what's blowing up [22:32] not sure .. now I know what packages are causing the problem I'm looking a bit deeper at it [22:32] apt-get purge nvidia* [22:32] and a reboot, lets me get a gui back [22:33] which means it could be switching back to the nouveau driver there [22:34] if I load the additional drivers, installing nvidia-current and reboot it dies [22:34] check the xorg log after it dies to see what went wrong [22:35] * ajmitch had surprisingly few issues with upgrading to natty, but hasn't applied updates lately [22:36] I had been blaming the SSSD problem [22:36] I've just had those two technical glitches ... SSSD and nvidia [22:37] and number of usage glitches though :/ [22:37] yeah, I've had issues with system going OOM & thrashing about for ages [22:37] but I also had swap disabled when that happened [22:44] I had that happen to me at some stage .. but can't remember at what point [22:44] * ibeardslee is slowing going insane [22:46] going? [22:54] I installed one at beta and upgraded both my desktop and laptop just before release with surprisingly no issues at all. [22:55] Well except that annoying scrollbar. [22:55] * ajmitch didn't really notice the scrollbar [22:55] Do you use Evolution? [22:55] yes [22:56] If I have Evolution maximized and go to scoll a message in the preview pane I have to move the cursor all the way to the right edge of the screen and then back a few pixels to grab the handle. [22:56] I don't think I ever really use the scrollbars there, and I use evolution maximised [22:57] but I don't remember having the issues you describe [22:57] I could just be blind [22:58] It could be my workflow being broken. I've never quite settled in with Evolution. [22:59] The keyboard shortcuts don't fit with me quite so well. I'm aLways switching messages when trying to scroll and silly things like that. [23:11] hmm dropped back to the -8 kernel and it seems to work [23:12] ibeardslee: it sort of indicates that it wasn't building the module for the kernel you're running [23:14] .. actually maybe not :( [23:17] btw, http://askubuntu.com/ is a useful (& now official) support site [23:20] damn .. I'll have to come back to it and work with just the one monitor for now .. get some people off my back [23:20] sudo reboot [23:20] gah [23:29] i'm having issues w/ Python in 11.04.. [23:30] upgrade to py 2.7 seems to have broken python-setuptools [23:30] which, makes life... challenging [23:34] http://paste.pocoo.org/show/382524/ [23:36] timClicks: /usr/local/bin? [23:43] ajmitch, hrm [23:43] /usr/local/bin/easy_install borks, /usr/bin/easy_install is okay [23:43] probably got an old copy in /usr/local [23:43] is is best just to rm [23:43] yeah, I think so [23:48] wow i have stuff in /usr/local [23:48] how did that get there? [23:48] * ajmitch has very little in /usr/local/bin, thankfully [23:49] i appear to have some wifi stuff ... that's probably not a good thing [23:49] madwifi from 2008? [23:50] * ajmitch just has 1 python egg in /usr/local/lib
