gentoo_drummerexactly00:00
gentoo_drummerso this is an official bug?00:00
MK``I can't go that far, but, try to add the indicator applet. As for xchat, I think that was a separate but possibly related issue in a coding change00:01
MK``Seems I had to leave before they figured out the xchat issue, ask KM0201 if/when he returns :)00:02
drcXchat appears for me in the Notification Area, and <will> minimize when clicked.00:02
gentoo_drummeri just checkd the show frame and now works...00:04
drcgentoo_drummer: 32 or 64 bit?00:04
gentoo_drummer3200:05
drcmy "show frame" is off/unchecked and the minimize still works...I was just wondering if it was a 32 vs 64 bit thing.00:06
MK``it rarely is00:06
drcI use 64 bit, forgot to add00:06
gentoo_drummerno idea..00:06
Soupermanitoi think is a 11.04 thing, whit the whole drivers issue it seems to be having00:06
drcMK``: I know, but sometimes it is :)00:06
gentoo_drummerdamn.. im in love with xfce..00:07
Soupermanito:D00:08
Soupermanitowelcome to the team00:08
drcgentoo_drummer: be careful, she's a jealous mistress00:08
drcDon't let her catch you dual booting :(00:08
Soupermanito:(00:09
Soupermanitoi wonder, is there a way to get that images open whit a wine emulated program, i simply cant stand ristretto, sorry, and i really like irfanview, so i can run irfan pretty well whit wine, but then i dont know how to bind images to be open whit irfan from thunar00:10
drcSoupermanito: Not sure about with WINE/irfanview, but there are several graphic viewer apps in the software center, and you can bind to them.00:12
drcCheck SC>Graphics>Viewers00:12
Soupermanitoi know, but none of them are good, the only one that is kinda good is the simple view command that uses teh imagemagick engine, but it has a really ugly gui00:13
Soupermanitoif imagemagick had a gtk gui then i would choose that, but it doesnt so i dont00:13
MK``you can try Eye of GNOME, or Gwenview, the KDE one :P00:16
Soupermanitoyou see, i like irfan for 3 reason, 1 you can view images on almost all formats there are out there, 2 you can easily edit, crop/rezise/change color depth/change image quality/save on another format, and 3 you can do all this on batch00:18
MK``yeah, I have been considering stuff like paint.net and notepad++ via wine00:19
MK``on windows I always use irfanview for batch00:19
Soupermanitoyes, and ristretto is such a failure on all those aspects, you cant even rotate images, you cant change the format, you cant even make it start on 100% if the image is too big it will rezise it, it wont remember the last position you use for the window, etc, etc00:23
Soupermanitoso then i tried binding the "open whit" option to  >wine '/home/me/.wine/drive_c/Program files/Irfanview/i_view32.exe'00:25
Soupermanitobut it only open a new instance of irfan00:25
drcSoupermanito: Try adding that command to the image (type) in the Open With> Use a Custom Command.00:27
drcNever Mind..I was fooled by "open whit" :)00:28
drcDinner time00:29
Soupermanito_oh that was fun00:29

iggyologyI just started using xubuntu.  I tried putting Firefox in the launch bar thing and now it only works through the terminal...03:10
iggyologyCan anyone help me get the icon to open the firefox program without using the terminal?03:11
bkliveiggyology, the icon will have a "open in terminal" checkbox03:16
IdleOneso what you want to do is uncheck that box03:21
iggyologysorry, i went to ubuntu... i have to check the terminal block to get firefox to even open at all03:24
iggyologyI did an update, do you think the updates messed something up? I know that Unity is buggy and I saw that it was one of the updates.03:26
iggyologyI put a Thunderbird icon in the launch bar and it's doing the same thing... only opens with a terminal window! What the heck is going on?03:29
Josesordohello all03:30
Unit193I don't think you are adding them correctly03:30
Unit193Adding a launcher?03:32
iggyologyYes I added a launcher03:36
iggyologyI don't think I added them correctly either03:36
iggyologyI just deleted them... I'll have to use the applications menu03:38
iggyologyI wanted it to be like the windows quicklaunch bar03:38
iggyologyoh great, now the applications menu icon isn't working either!03:39
Unit193Firefox?03:40
iggyologyfirefox and thunderbird both are dead03:40
iggyologyI had the same problem with ubuntu and Unity with the globalthing03:42
iggyologyhow can I roll back an update! I think that's what fudged me03:44
Unit193You would have to find what you updated and remove it? (cat /var/log/dpkg.log)03:45
iggyologyoh great, there isn't an easier way?03:46
iggyologySo what do i do with all that command line crap?03:47
Unit193You might be better off if someone else helps...03:49
iggyologyok, thanks for being honest03:49
bkliveiggyology, okay apparently you're having a problem opening firefox yes?03:49
bklivebut when you run it from the terminal it DOES open?03:49
Unit193Sound like .desktop file is messed up?03:50
bklivethat, or you could have set up your link incorrectly. the "command" should be "firefox". yes?03:50
iggyologyit does open from the terminal, the command isn't just "firefox"03:51
bkliveif you put firefox in the command field of the link you put that will work03:52
iggyologyughhh.. .this linux stuff is too damn much... takes too damn much time to screw with03:54
iggyologyno it didn't work03:54
iggyologyit's the damn unity update03:55
Unit193How did you get Unity in Xubuntu?03:55
iggyologydamn piece of crap that ubuntu put out as refined when it should have been called beta imo03:55
iggyologyI was retarted and let it update03:55
* Unit193 still hasn't touched it03:55
iggyologyas soon as the update was done my system was fu**ed03:56
iggyologyI don't want to have to go to college for this crap...03:56
iggyologyI just want to escape windows03:57

Liv-whoa... I was gonna ask opinions about the new version hehe03:59
Liv-is it that bad?03:59
iggyologyrun away liv03:59
kuakkganniHow did  you get Unity in an Xubuntu upgrade?03:59
iggyologyyes03:59
Unit193Unity is halfbaked(?)03:59
iggyologyI have no freakin clue why Unity popped up in an xubuntu upgrade03:59
iggyologythat's the mystery here to me too04:00

iggyologyAll I know is that the 2 programs I use the most are now doa04:00
iggyologythanks to some teams bright idea to put out a the global#$@ thing04:01
Liv-I've been watching some videos and it looks good04:01

iggyologyit shits on noobs04:04

iggyologyI'm just mad because I've been messing with this stuff all day...04:05
iggyologyalllllllllll daaayyyyyyyy04:05
kuakkganniiggyology: Settle down and treat his like a problem to be solved.  What was your starting state, what did you do and what was the result?04:05
iggyologyI started by pulling Firefox and Thunderbird out of the applications menu and putting them on the desktop04:06
iggyologythat was fine04:06
iggyologythen I tried putting them in the launch bar04:06
iggyologysure they went... visually, but not in actuality04:07
iggyologyas soon as I canned the desktop icons...04:07
iggyologyoh ... sorry... no more ability to use those 2 programs... too bad!04:07
kuakkganniWhat version of Xubuntu are you using?04:08
iggyologyWindows quicklaunch doesn't give me these problems. And if the icon is broken I know where to go in the progams folder to point the shortcut in the right direction04:08
iggyologyI'm using the latest xubuntu04:08
kuakkganniAnd what is the latest?04:08
iggyologyoh heck.. where do I find that?04:09
iggyology11.4 maybe, I don't know04:09
iggyologyI got it off the website today04:09

linux_novice_Hello, could anybody spare some time to discuss installing Xubuntu on Virtualbox, in a Windows host. I've come across an issue after the installer finishes and Xubuntu tries to restart. The desktop disappears but hangs at what looks like a terminal screen with the following text. http://tinypaste.com/4d70b121:05
linux_novice_Is that normal? Is it OK to hard reset the VM?21:06
knomelinux_novice_, i'd suggest that first yeah21:06
b26you did a shutdown -h21:07
b26instead of a shutdown -r now21:07
linux_novice_I restarted from the desktop (XFCE), cause it said it needed to restart after installing.21:07
linux_novice_I was wondering if doing a reset would harm the installation of if that was OK.21:08
b26   -h     Requests  that  the system be either halted or powered off after21:08
b26              it has been brought down, with the choice as to which left up to21:08
b26              the system.21:08
b26       -H     Requests  that  the  system  be halted after it has been brought21:08
b26              down.21:08
b26that's taken from man shutdown21:09
b26'man shutdown'21:09
b26which is the manual regarding the shutdwon command21:09
linux_novice_I haven't made myself clear, I restarted from the GUI, cause there was a notification saying that the OS needed to restart to complete the installation. I didn't issue a text/terminal command. The XFCE desktop disappears but the VM doesn't restart, just gets stuck with the message I posted above.21:12
