[11:46] * ojwb glares at launchpad for timing out and apparently just throwing away his bug report [20:33] morning [21:03] morning [21:26] mornin [21:31] morning [22:27] ohhh my nook color arrived today [22:29] nice [22:37] and Angry Birds is installed [22:40] :) [22:40] ibeardslee: it is android based? [22:40] not e-ink though? [22:42] thumper: They are based on Android but a custom interface. You can load a custom ROM such as Cyanogenmod onto them to get full Android [22:42] * thumper nods [22:44] the nook and the nook colour are a bit different like that [22:45] the colour has about 8 hours battery and the nook has about 10 days [22:45] I'm assuming the colour screen is what kills it a bit [22:45] Yeah [22:45] as well as the other apps etc that can be instaled [22:46] ibeardslee: Are you running CM7? [22:46] CM7? [22:47] no .. still original [22:47] Ah okay [22:47] Cyanogenmod 7 [22:47] google was my friend ;) [22:47] http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/nook-color [22:48] Basically Android 2.3 [22:49] Starting to get chilly this morning [22:52] hads: are you running CM7? [23:00] Yeah [23:01] does it lose any or much functionality of the original nook color? [23:16] my ubuntu machine appears to have a fried video card: as the boot progresses more and more apparently random (but the same every time) effects appear on the screen before the screen locks up. [23:16] is my best option to by a cheap video card from a random vendor and trying swapping it in? [23:16] ibeardslee: You lose all the book reading type stuff. To be honest I didn't have a good look through the features it provided out of the box. [23:17] worth a try, what video driver are you using? [23:17] ibeardslee: You can restore the stock firmware though whenever. [23:17] ajmitch: no idea, but the effects start before the kernel is loaded [23:17] ajmitch: i had assumed that meant that my video driver wasn't to blame [23:18] snail: it'd just make it more likely to get to a desktop if you got a card which used the same driver, otherwise it may just fallback to safe graphics mode with a VESA driver [23:18] you should be able to pick up a new or 2nd hand video card pretty cheaply though [23:18] oh, ok [23:44] and Angry Birds fails because I'm not physically in the US or Canada [23:44] looks like there maybe little reason to actually keep it as a Nook [23:55] ibeardslee: governments have traditionally been protective of book industries, since they're linked to education and our ideas of wisdom; thus we trade protectionism is rampant globally in the book trade; thus annoying geographical restrictions (which are technically jurisdictional not geographical restrictions, but the only place you notice the difference is in places like foreign military bases). [23:59] angry birds is wisdom!
