sidd1317I've got a computer running off of a bootable ubuntu 11.04 disc.  It's to scratched to install from.02:18
sidd1317However, I have a flash drive with the same iso burned onto it, bootable.  My motherboard doesn't support booting from it, though.02:18
sidd1317I've no new cd-r's to write a fresh install onto, so I'm left with only one option.  I can't figure out how to do it.  How can I read/install from the 11.04 flash drive, while running from the cd?02:19
pleia2sidd1317: unfortunately you have to boot from the usb drive, do you have a friend or neighbor who can burn the iso for you?02:20
sidd1317No, I'll have to wait until tomorrow to get my hands on a fresh disc.02:20
pleia2does the machine have a floppy drive?02:21
sidd1317Yes, first I've seen in years.  No floppies on hand, though.02:21
pleia2ah ok02:21
sidd1317I can't install from the usb iso while running of the cd, then?02:22
pleia2not that I'm aware of02:22
sidd1317Well, thanks for the help anyhow02:23

duanedesigni am getting a lot of emails fromm users wanting a new release16:44
stlsaintduanedesign: np, it is great work for me to learn packaging16:44
stlsaintduanedesign: yea i have been also, and even more attention on the manpage as well16:44
stlsaintduanedesign: you may want to gander at the proposed members for the clic dev team on lp16:45
duanedesignstlsaint: cool i will16:47
stlsaintduanedesign: when are we looking to schedule a release?16:48
duanedesignas soon as i can get it packaged16:50
stlsaintduanedesign: in that case were you able to view my email on suggesting the feature freeze16:50
duanedesignthough we need to get it packaged, releaswed and let people use it for a couple weeks to see if any bugs pop up16:51
duanedesigndefinetly we need to stop addding features at this point16:51
stlsaintduanedesign: i say we knock out say the last few bugs we have had as of last month and throw in the manpage and then release16:51
stlsaintthe natty release should definately help easy into a oneiric release16:53
stlsaintduanedesign: i also would like to suggest again the email to the dev team with your plans, goals, current focus, release timeframe, etc. Just so everyone is on the same page16:55
stlsaintduanedesign: me hogging your time in here is unfair to the others :D16:55

brad_is this working?18:08
pleia2brad_: yes18:10
brad_hey cool! Thank you!18:10
brad_I am a total newb here. I love ubuntu, but coming from windows is really difficult. Can anyone recommend a good book?18:10
brad_I need to troubleshoot my system at home, and am finding it very confusing18:11
coalwaterwhat's the problem ?18:12
brad_my sound doesnt work, and I cant get dual monitors to work18:12
brad_ive tried to read through the community documentation, but nothing is working18:12
brad_I thought I would buy a book if there is a good one available18:13
UndiFineDbrad_, there the Ubuntu-Manual a book which you can order18:13
UndiFineDhttp://ubuntu-manual.org/18:14
UndiFineDor read online18:14
seidosbrad_: you could also buy support18:14
brad_I actually had the sound working at one point, but i think it went away when I updated?18:15
brad_Thank your for the link BTW18:15
UndiFineDI am not very capable in sound issues18:17
UndiFineDas my own sound is broken too18:17
pleia2brad_: have you seen this? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems18:17
pleia2(there are also some links at the bottom of the page for some further testing)18:18
brad_thank you pleia2. That does look familiar. I will take a look at that again.18:19
pleia2the "ubuntu-bug audio" thing is pretty nice, walks you through a lot of basic troubleshooting in dialogs18:19
brad_I do remember changing a value somewhere from a 0 to a 1, or from a 1 to a 2 and had sound, but couldnt find the page that I used to get me there18:20
brad_I downloaded that book. I will do some more research and will likely be back here soon. Thanks all.18:21
brad_okay, im already back.18:36
brad_I just upgraded to the latest version, and I dont like it. Is it possible to revert back to the prior ?18:37
pleia2not really18:37
brad_so then I would just re-install meerkat?18:38
pleia2yeah, reinstalling is the only reliable way18:38
pleia2you may also want to check out "classic" mode18:39
pleia2if you don't like the new unity interface18:39
brad_that is basically what I dont like. how do I do classic mode?18:39
pleia2brad_: when you log in there is an option as to which interface you want to use18:39
pleia2(I don't remember where exactly, poke around the login screen some and you should find it :))18:40
brad_okay will do.18:41
brad_found it. Thank you pleia2. one more stupid question;18:43
brad_assuming I have 1/2 a brain, how long should it take to get comfortable with ubuntu, and move around relatively easy?18:43
pleia2it depends on the type of user, I've set up with a lot of casual computer users (web, email, office docs) with ubuntu and they had no problems getting used to it18:44
pleia2if you're more of a power windows user and like pushing the limits of your system the learning curve will be steeper18:44
brad_5 years?18:45
pleia2maybe 5 years to become a linux professional18:45
brad_well that is encouraging!18:46
brad_Thanks. Im gonna log out and try the classic screen.18:46
brad_i'll be back (mimic's the governator)18:47
harleydudeHow do yu highlight more than one file in a folder19:03
harleydude? Tried holding down "CTRL" key but does not let19:04
harleydudedo anything19:04
harleydudeIn Windows you can select a file and hold down the Shift & CTRL key and highlight more then one file. Not sure how to accomplish same thing in Ubuntu?19:06
xardas008_*thinking*19:22
DarkwingDuckharleydude: it works here with the left CTRL19:22
xardas008_did you use the arrow keys in combination with ctrl harleydude19:23
coalwaterim not sure of what's the problem but are u trying simply in nautilus, or a file selector? if its a selector it might not allow multiple files, just saying19:24
