LinkmasterYou don't want to remove that00:30

pastyhermitime I try to connect to a wifi network00:30
LinkmasterKWallet is a password manager that keeps passwords[such as your WPA2 password] in a tightly encrypted folder. That way nobody can see it00:31
Linkmasterhave you created the password for it yet? If so, whenever it comes up, type in the password you made for it, and then it'll automatically connect to your network for you. its quite nifty actually00:32
pastyhermitLinkmaster: kind of stupid I dont want to keep typing in the password for the wifif00:33
pastyhermitor the wallet.00:33
Linkmasteryou'd only need to do it on reboot00:33
Linkmasterand once you create it, you never have to type in the password for the wifi00:33
lcbpastyhermit: and you have the option to not asking again for password00:34
* Linkmaster actually didn't know about that, he thought it was for security purposes00:34
Linkmaster:P00:34
pastyhermitlcb: alright00:34
pastyhermitthanks00:34
pastyhermitIt should probably default to not needlessly harrasing the user, I  presume the data is encrypted?00:35
LinkmasterYeah, its encrypted[like I said previously...]00:36
* lcb actually don't know a lot Linkmaster do, he thinks it is for security purposes00:36
lcb:p00:36
LinkmasterI'm still trying to figure out how to disable the ability for root functions to 'remember this authentication' I'm tired of unchecking the box. I want my computer to ask me every blasted time when something even remotely not root is trying to have root priviledges :P00:37

hybwhy my /dev/sound missing?05:56
tsimpsonhyb: I think you mean /dev/snd05:57
hybtsimpson: how to check it05:59
tsimpsonit's the ALSA interface to sound, so just try playing sound from something that's using ALSA for sound I guess06:00
hybtsimpson: in my os ,the /dev/snd is a folder, that all right?06:00
tsimpsonyes, it should have several "files" in it06:01
tsimpsonlike seq, timer, controlC0 (maybe named slightly differently)06:01
kutijahello06:02
hybtsimpson: can i make a voice in console with that06:03
debgHi , Anyone using Compiz+emerald with kde 4.6.3 ?06:03
tsimpsonhyb: if you have a .wav file (there may be some in /usr/share/sound), you can try playing them with the aplay command06:04
tsimpsondebg: emerald is no longer maintained, dead, and probably very buggy06:05
kutijahey all! i'm on 11.04. Kubuntu. how can i remove those widgets and set up standard desktop look?06:06
hybtsimpson: the .ogg also can play?06:06
tsimpsonhyb: not with aplay, but with ogg12306:07
Fluttershykutija: as in, just a blank desktop?06:08
kutijadesktop like in 1006:08
hybtsimpson: what is the ogg12306:08
kutijai can't find anything on this one :)06:08
FluttershyI don't remember the desktop being any different in 10.1006:08
Fluttershyjust a different wallpaper06:08
kutijawell.. i watching at like 10 widgets on screen and no menu06:09
tsimpsonhyb: it's a program in the vorbis-tools package06:09
hybtsimpson: how about the mplayer06:10
debgtsimpson: I can use kde-windows-dekorator as well but compiz freezes whenever I open the add new widget window . Is there any fix for that ?06:11
tsimpsonhyb: sure, if you have that06:13
tsimpsonwell, I wouldn't use compiz, so I can't help there06:13
kutijaFluttershy: i have search and launch, page one and bunch of icons in tray. and ofc, bunch of widgets under that . no standard desktop with icons and menu.06:13
Fluttershyoh06:15
Fluttershyare you on a netbook06:15
hybtsimpson: i see a error messge before kdm ,how can i get it06:15
Fluttershybecause that's the netbook interface06:15
Fluttershy(you can switch to the regular desktop)06:15
tsimpsonhyb: probably logged in /var/log/syslog or /var/log/messages06:16
kutijaFluttershy: yea, just found it :D06:16
hybtsimpson: what is acahi.eth006:18
tsimpsonno idea, but probably something to do with networking (eth0 is usually the ethernet wired network interface)06:19
bullgard4What do the letters "SC" mean in "Kubuntu SC 4.6.2"?06:26
hybtsimpson: how to stop ipv606:27
tsimpson!ipv6 | hyb06:28
ubottuhyb: For an introduction to IPv6 and information on tunneling IPv6 through IPv4 connections, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IPv6 | To disable IPv6 see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WebBrowsingSlowIPv6IPv406:28
tsimpsonbullgard4: it's KDE SC, and the SC stands for Software Compilation. it's part of a re-branding to show a separation from the community and the product(s)06:28
bullgard4tsimpson: Ah! Thank you very much for your explanation.06:31
hybtsimpson: how to get some info when i exe .sh file in console06:36
tsimpsonwhat do you mean by "some info"?06:37
hybtsimpson: the some info record in log file, i want it show in console06:37
hybtsimpson: in fact ,i use a .sh file to login internet06:38
tsimpsona .sh is just a list of commands that is executed sequentially, so you'd have to edit the file to make it print anything out06:38
hybtsimpson: yes. but i want to get some info from this.06:40
hybtsimpson: before 10.10,it is ok06:40
tsimpsona script is abstract, unless it prints something, or one of the commands it runs prints something, it won't show anything06:41
tsimpsonso you'd just have to edit the file and make it print stuff06:41
hybtsimpson: dou you know how to add some bash cmd to get it?06:42
hybtsimpson: maybe stop 2s06:42
tsimpsonthe way you output text in scripts is with the "echo" command06:42
tsimpsonif you want it to delay, put in "sleep 2" somewhere and it'll pause for 2 seconds06:43
hybtsimpson:  it can't work, i disappointed06:54

vbgunzI have an esata disk with several encrypted partitions. If I explicitly mount /dev/mapper/name -> /dir , I gain access to the partition. If I boot up with the disk plugged in I gain access to it. *but* if I click on the partition in dolphin *errors* and it doesn't mount... what's up?18:20
KeshlI'm not abosutely sure here, but this is just my best guess.18:32
KeshlWhen you mount it via the shell, you're only mapping it into the system, not trying to actually *use* it.18:32
KeshlSo there's no error since all you're doing is saying it's there.18:32
KeshlWhen Dolphin tries to do it, it mounts it properly, then tries to read the files. Obviously this fails since you haven't given it an encryption key.18:32
GlycanHello18:33
James147^^ more likly is taht udev cannot handel mounting encrpyted drives... vbgunz, have you tried adding an entry for it to /etc/fstab  ?18:33
GlycanHow to you connect to internet when you install?18:33
GlycanFor wireless, that is.18:33
vbgunzKeshl: the password dialog comes up. the error is An error occurred while accessing '596.2 GiB Encrypted Container', the system responded: org.freedesktop.UDisks.Error.Busy: One or more block devices are holding /dev/sdc618:34
KeshlGlycan: If you're wired, just plug a cable in. Wireless, it depends on your setup. Does your router need a password?18:34
GlycanYes18:34
KeshlGlycan: Does it use WEP or WPA?18:34
GlycanWEO18:34
GlycanWEP18:34
James147Glycan: same way after installation ^^ (best to boot the full version for it... you can install from the live desktop)18:34
vbgunzIt's not busy or at least it shouldn't be. It's not mounted and when I go to mount it explicitly, it mounts without an issue and I can then browse it in dolphin18:34
Keshlvbgunz: Talk to James147, he knows more than me ^w^'18:34
GlycanHuh?18:34
GlycanI mean, during install, it says for best results ensure internet18:34
KeshlGlycan: Oh. Connect a wire.18:35
GlycanOh dear.18:35
GlycanHow troublesome.18:35
KeshlGlycan: You don't *need* it during the installation anyway.18:35
GlycanNo?18:35
GlycanOkay, good.18:35
KeshlGlycan: The only time I'd worry is if you're on an SSD and absoutely paranoid about doing as few writes as possible.18:35
James147Glycan: it dosnt matter much... mostly its needed for installing extra packages and updateing... both can beb done after18:35

GlycanWich one is fro a serparate partition?18:37
James147Glycan: manual give you greatest contol over the partitioning18:38
BluesKajthecaptain2000, ethernet?18:38
vbgunzI did add entries to fstab. If I boot up into Kubuntu with the external disk on, everything mounts. If I boot up with the disk off, I got to go through 5 prompts to skip or manually fix the disk. I tried nofail as an fstab option but that doesn't work the way I think it should. anyhow, dolphin I am convinced doesn't know how to handle luks encrypted partitions :/18:38
vbgunzI guess, I'd just like to confirm if for a fact, dolphin does not handle luks (so I know this isn't a bug). I've google my butt off on this one and am really stumped. I don't know if this is a bug or if dolphin is just limited here18:39
James147vbgunz: if you add noauto and users to fstab it should not mount them during boot and let users beable to mount them18:39
vbgunzJames147: even root can't mount through dolphin18:40
vbgunzI should have said that, sorry18:40
James147vbgunz: probally a bug in dolphin.. or mroe likly udisk18:40
BluesKajthecaptain2000, http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/setting-up-an-network-interfaces-file/18:40
=== Guest1681 is now known as ssfdre38
James147vbgunz: because dolphin uses udisk to my knowldge.. if mount works then noauto and users should allow normal users to mount the drives after boot18:41
vbgunzJames147: I am gonna try that then. if I make that change to fstab now, do I have to reboot to try the change out?18:41
James147vbgunz: no, just unount and try remounting as you would18:41
vbgunzJames147: this is what my options look like on these partitions users,noauto,noatime,defaults,errors=remount-ro      0       218:42

kubu2szal: i ONLY MOUNT IT WHEN i NEEDED IT23:36
kubu2sorry23:36
James147kubu2: why?23:36
kubu2I only mount it whne needed23:36
James147kubu2: removable?23:37
szalwhy that, that is the question23:37
kubu2what's wrong with mounting as needed? easy with dolphin 1-click23:38
szalwhat's wrong w/ having them mounted at boot time?  no click needed ;)23:39
kubu2but that's not the issue.  the issuse is why doesn't dolphin refresh when you open a folder23:40
James147kubu2: well ^^ for one you cannot create symlinks23:40
kubu2James147: why not?23:40
James147kubu2: syslink points to a location... it dosnt know about partitions... if you remove the location then it becomes an invalid link23:40
James147^^ there is no way a symlink knows it poitns to a folder on a device or how to mount that folder23:41
kubu2James147: this is a link to a partition/folder23:41
szalJames147: seems you don't understand the concept of mounting partitions in Linux ;)23:41
James147if you want to use crossfilesystem symlinks then make sure the partition is always mounted... if you dont want to do that then dont create or expect crossfilesystem symlinks to work23:41
szalJames147: I had that concept working well for quite a while, though mounted through fstab23:42
kubu2mine is working quite well except that I ave to manually F5 to reload to make them valid.23:43
kubu2I'd expect a file manager to refresh automatically the folder contents when opened23:45
James147kubu2: how are you creating these links?23:45
kubu2James147: you can always create links whether they are valid or not23:47
James147kubu2: create new > link to location... behaves as expected... takes you to the location and errors if its not mounted23:50
James147kubu2: create new > link to hdd  also does wahts expected and errors with unable to find entry in /etc/fstab if its unmounted23:51
kubu2James147: forget it23:51
