robrt`1269.254.x.x would generally mean it didn't get a DHCP IP00:29
WMPand /etc/network/interfaces ?00:29

RudyValenciaThat worked. It went right into fsck :)08:09
xokvictorcan anyone tell me, which means that certifiaction of equipment? http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/08:18
xokvictor???08:22
xokvictoranybody there?08:22
jmarsdenxokvictor: system admins tend to care more about equipment that works, than equipment that is certified.  Canonical will probably be happy to sell you on why certified equipment is "better supported" if your management needs that kind of reassurance.08:24
xokvictor "better supported" - hat do u mean? more stability, more supported devices?08:26
TeTeTxokvictor: the certification means that a number of tests have been passed on that machine. Not sure if the tests or their results are publicly available though08:27
xokvictoror better suport all devices in specified model?08:27
TeTeTxokvictor: so the certified release at least boots and all core components work08:28
xokvictorthanks08:28
TeTeTxokvictor: it probably will not test for some hardware as fingerprint readers on laptops that would require a manual test08:28
xokvictorTeTeT u r very helpful for me08:28
TeTeTxokvictor: or a tape in a server for backup08:28
xokvictorthank u very much08:29
TeTeTxokvictor: though understand that certification does not mean fully enabled, what your questions above seem to ask for08:30
TeTeTxokvictor: most likely a fully enabled Ubuntu would come pre-installed on a specific hardware from your vendor of choice08:30
xokvictorok )08:30
TeTeTxokvictor: I'd also recommend to contact your vendor of choice and ask them specifically on the ubuntu release and server you're interested in. Always helps to raise visibility08:31
xokvictorTeTeT: i'm new user in ubuntu, how i can help for ubuntu?08:32
xokvictorTeTeT: how to start learning?08:33
TeTeTxokvictor: check the help on help.ubuntu.com and if something is unclear or wrong, contact the page author and let them know. It's a good way to start, there are other ways, but going with the docs first is good08:33
TeTeTxokvictor: else, depends on your skills and what you want to do. For example, I do some bug triaging and fixing in my spare time at times08:34
TeTeTxokvictor: and try to be helpful on cloud related questions over IRC08:34

cocoa117the good thing with was KVM is official supported by Ubuntu, so it's easy to upgrade18:10
RoyKif you compare KVM with libvirt i/o to Xen HVMs, the KVM easily wins that contest18:10
cocoa117anyway, thanx for ur efforts18:10
RoyKnp18:10
cocoa117oh, i was doing KVM linux and Xen pavirt18:11
cocoa117because i do use my Ubuntu as samba server, downloading, streaming server a lot18:11
RoyKwith libvirt drivers on the KVM guest?18:11
cocoa117the Windows box is just desktop, running things i can't with Ubuntu18:11
cocoa117yes, can't remember the version, sorry18:12
RoyKanyway - if Xen works, it works :)18:12
cocoa117a while ago it was18:12
RoyKand yes, KVM requires cpu virt extensions18:12
cocoa117don't have time to learn about KVM, so just stick with Xen for now18:12
* RoyK didn't have time to learn about KVM either, he just started virt-manager and made some VMs18:13
cocoa117both of them are actively developed, so no need to switch right way, :)18:13
RoyKtrue - what works, works18:13
RoyKcocoa117: but to your mount problem, I really don't have much idea18:18
RoyKdoes 9.04 use old syslogd, or rsyslogd?18:19
RoyKcocoa117: IIRC it's syslogd, if so, you may want to add a line *.* /var/log/everything.log and reboot to see if you can find a hint in there18:22
RoyKcocoa117: otherwise, upgrade to 10.04 via 9.10 - do-release-upgrade, reboot, and the same again18:22
cocoa117Royk, yes, i am preparing it at the moment18:23
RoyKjust make sure you have a backup in case something ugly hits the fan18:23
cocoa117i am doing backup now actually, tar, :)18:23
RoyKwhy not just take a xen snapshot (if that's supported) or perhaps copy the vm image?18:23
cocoa117Royk, i don't know what ssylog is used in 9.0418:24
RoyKthe only thing I can think of going bad, is grub2, and if so, you may not be able to boot the system18:24
cocoa117don't know how, with snapshot, i feel tar is safer for me, i done it in the past 1000 times, and know it worked18:24
RoyKok18:25
cocoa117after all, i do have 800G storage inside /srv folder18:25
RoyKisn't that mostly on other filesystems?18:25
RoyKI guess that's not on the root...?18:25
cocoa117i am just backup / without /srv for now, and do  do-release-upgrade with backuped Ubuntu 9.04 first18:25
cocoa117if everything worked, then do the real upgrade18:25
RoyKremember, you need to do that twice to get to 10.0418:26
RoyKubuntu will always upgrade to the next release, or the next LTS release if no LTS (and configured to do so)18:26
cocoa117yep18:26
RoyKs/no LTS/on LTS/18:26
cocoa117i am thinking to change the upgrade line to LTS after upgrade to 10.0418:27
RoyKIIRC that's done automatically18:27
RoyKonce you upgrade to LTS, the config is changed, and must be changed back to 'normal' manually18:27
cocoa117oh, yes, i always change them back, :) because my laptop usage is more often then server :)18:27
cocoa117thanx for point it out18:28
cocoa117i take u use server more often18:28
RoyKI do :)18:28
* RoyK has 50+ ubuntu machines running at work18:28
cocoa117wow, all servers?18:28
RoyKsome workstations - some of the developers and scientists don't want windows18:29
cocoa117my work envirnoment have RedHat more then Ubuntu18:29
RoyKI cannot but agree ;)18:29
cocoa117:)18:29
RoyKwe used to have a bunch of redhat around, but I managed to change that when I started - no reason to pay for opensource when you don't even use the support, so rather than paying blood money to RedHat, we got a support contract with a local company that has been doing linux consulting for 15 years18:30
* RoyK can remember how people were laughing at them when they started up their business back in 1995 - doing CONSULTING for LINUX??? :)18:31
cocoa117i c18:31
cocoa117:)18:31
cocoa117yes 15 years, sound like long time ago18:31
RoyKlinux wasn't very good back then18:32
cocoa117glade to see the progress linux has made18:32
RoyKheh - yeah - look at supercomputers/compute clusters around the world18:32
RoyKor even webservers18:33
cocoa117agree18:33
sw0rdfishwhere is the default location of httpd.conf of apaceh218:39
sw0rdfishlocated?18:39
qman__sw0rdfish, httpd.conf is not used in ubuntu/debian configuration18:42
RoyKsw0rdfish: all configs are under /etc/apache2 - you rarely would have to change apache2.conf (aka httpd.conf) - see the directories mods-enabled/mods-available and similar sites-*18:42
qman__but it still exists in /etc/apache218:42
sw0rdfishi just want to make /var/www/documents18:43
sw0rdfishpassword protected18:43
sw0rdfishi have to edit apache2.conf18:43
RoyKnope18:43
RoyKjust create a .htaccess file there18:44
qman__yep, or modify the site configuration18:44
RoyKor edit the virtualhost18:44
qman__ /etc/apache2/sites-available/default in this case18:44
sw0rdfishwell its not recommended to use .htaccess18:44
RoyKwhy not?18:44
RoyKso long as the apache user (www-data) can't write to the file, it should be pretty safe18:45
qman__yeah18:45
sw0rdfishhttp://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/howto/htaccess.html#when18:45
sw0rdfishits not recommened haha18:46
sw0rdfishrecommended*18:46
RoyKimho it doesn't matter much - still - just edit the apache config as qman__ said18:46
qman__well, the proper place in main configuration is /etc/apache2/sites-available/site-name18:46
qman__in this case the default site18:46
sw0rdfishwell to be honest if they're recommending against its usage18:47
sw0rdfishbased on the fact it slows things down18:47
sw0rdfishi guess i shouldn't have to worry cuz i don't have a lot of directories in my server18:47
RoyKthe slowdown is only noticable on a heavily loaded server18:48
qman__the performance impact is next to nothing, you'd only have to worry about it if you hosted hundreds of sites or something like facebook18:48
sw0rdfishoh cool18:48
sw0rdfishok so whats the fastest way18:48
sw0rdfishthe thing is i'd have to read a how-to to do it and don't have a lot of time to read lol18:48
qman__you have to do the same thing in either case18:48
* RoyK sticks to .htaccess - easier to update and no apache reload needed18:48
qman__it's just a matter of which file you drop it in18:48
sw0rdfishnice ok18:49
qman__just make sure the htpasswd file is above the webroot18:49
qman__if you're going with basic18:49
sw0rdfishi should put .htaccess on /var/www to protect /var/www/documents18:49
sw0rdfishright18:49
RoyKkeep in mind that it'll throw you a 500 if you make a typo in .htaccess18:50
RoyKyou should place it in the root directory you want to protect, so if you want anonymous access to the files in /var/www, but protect what's under /var/www/documents, place the file in the latter18:50
sw0rdfishhey if i protect /var/www18:51
sw0rdfisheverything under it will be protected right18:51
RoyKyse18:51
sw0rdfishi might as well just do that18:51
RoyKyes18:51
qman__keep in mind that the password transmission is in the clear unless you're using https18:52
qman__not sure if man in the middle is a concern for you18:52
sw0rdfishI am using https :)18:52
sw0rdfishuhhh let me guess it is18:53
sw0rdfishpossible to encrypt the password with md518:53
sw0rdfishright18:53
sw0rdfishalthough i'm not gonna go for it, don't have time to read on that18:53
RoyKhtpasswd -m18:53
sw0rdfishthere is a "passwords" file in /etc/apache218:55
sw0rdfishprotecting another directory in /var/www18:55
sw0rdfishcould I just use that one too18:55
RoyKsure, just specify that in the .htaccess file18:55
RoyKAuthUserFile /etc/apache2/passwd18:56
sw0rdfishcool18:56
sw0rdfishwhat does htdigest do18:56
sw0rdfishcuz i had to use that to change the passwd of that directory it protects18:56
sw0rdfishahh nvm18:57
sw0rdfishif .htaccess is in the same directory to be protected it won't be compromised right?18:57
RoyKsw0rdfish: just make sure it's not writable by the www-data user18:58
RoyKit must be readable by it, but not writable18:58
RoyKso something like this should be safe: chown root:www-data .htpasswd ; chmod 640 .htpasswd18:59
RoyKperhaps change root to whatever user is meant to update it18:59
sw0rdfishi see19:00
sw0rdfishthanks man19:00
DuvrazhCan anyone please help me understand what's going on with my raid-5 array and how/when I should mount it? Array installed from 11.04 liveusb install, md0, 18% sync, need auto-mount on boot.19:04
qman__well, it's 18% through syncing19:06
qman__just have to wait for that to finish19:06
Duvrazhwill it mount on completion?19:07
Duvrazhit's been syncing for hours19:07
qman__it should be mounted already19:07
qman__and yes, syncing takes a very long time19:07
qman__especially with multi TB arrays19:07
Duvrazhthe md0 is present in /etc/md0 but I wasn't sure if that would turn into the root folder of the array19:07
DuvrazhOkay. It's currently 6 TB19:07
qman__you must have pretty good hardware then19:08
DuvrazhMid-range $$ hardware19:08
qman__mine took three days, for 8 1TB disks in a raid 6 + hot spare configuration19:08
Duvrazhdamn19:08
DuvrazhI can't believe it's so slow. Windows raid takes like 3 minutes.19:08
qman__that's because it doesn't actually build the array19:09
qman__it just assumes it'll work19:09
Duvrazhmakes sense19:09
qman__it's like quick format versus fill19:09
qman__full*19:09
qman__you can still use the array while it's syncing19:09
Duvrazhso please help me feel not-crazy. when syncing is done, /etc/md0 will be the root folder of the array?19:09
qman__though there's a remote possibility of data loss19:09
DuvrazhI'll wait ;)19:09
qman__probably not, unless you mounted it there19:09
qman__which is silly19:09
qman__ /etc is for configuration, not storage19:10
DuvrazhI don't know if I specified a mount19:10
Duvrazhhow can I view that? I haven't found any command showing me the mount point19:10
qman__mount19:10
qman__shows active mounts19:10
qman__and /etc/fstab shows configured mounts19:10
Duvrazhnot mounted19:10
qman__df -h shows free space on mounted disks, too19:10
Duvrazhediting /etc/fstab will create a mount@boot-time right?19:10
qman__yes19:11
Duvrazh Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sdd1             222G  1.1G  210G   1% / none                  3.9G  248K  3.9G   1% /dev none                  4.0G     0  4.0G   0% /dev/shm none                  4.0G  336K  4.0G   1% /var/run none                  4.0G     0  4.0G   0% /var/lock19:11
qman__well, if you configure it to19:11
qman__the 'noauto' option will make it not auto mount19:11
qman__while the 'auto' option makes it mount19:11
DuvrazhI first will have to make a filesystem though from that reading, right?19:11
qman__yes19:12
Duvrazhoh snap it's not even on there...19:12
DuvrazhCan I make filesystem and mount during sync?19:12
qman__have to make a filesystem before you can mount it19:13
qman__yes19:13
qman__you have a few decisions to make there, too19:13
Duvrazhsuch as?19:13
qman__many use LVM on top of the raid19:13
DuvrazhI read that doesn't come without side-effects19:13
Duvrazhparticularly complexity19:14
qman__both methods have side effects19:14
Duvrazhdata-integrity is main concern19:14
qman__my file server is just a straight ext3 on md019:14
qman__well19:14
qman__silent data corruption is a big issue with large disks19:14
Duvrazhit's a media server, going to be streaming media files with Twonky19:14
qman__and none of the stable linux filesystems have checksumming19:14
Duvrazhand sharing the raid via samba19:14
qman__I've had a few videos go wonky on mine19:15
Duvrazhhmm19:15
Duvrazha few I can handle19:15
Duvrazhmore than 10-20 would be unacceptable19:15
qman__nothing devastating, not even close19:15
Duvrazhwell that's good19:16
qman__what was devastating was when on my original raid 519:16
sw0rdfishis authtype digest, the best thing19:16
Duvrazhany reason not to use ext4 for my purpose?19:16
qman__I had three drives die in one day19:16
Duvrazhholy shit19:16
qman__which is not as rare or uncommon as you might think19:16
Duvrazhwestern digitals?19:16
qman__seagates19:16
Duvrazhhmm19:16
DuvrazhI guess I'll be glad I'm using Caviar Green19:17
qman__which is why I am now running raid 6 with a hot spare19:17
qman__yuck19:17
qman__prepare for trouble19:17
DuvrazhThey've been stable for a long time19:17
qman__those are not designed to be used in a raid19:17
Duvrazhbut there is plan to swap them out19:17
DuvrazhI know19:17
DuvrazhWD raid drives are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, unreasonably so19:17
Duvrazhbrand loyalist19:17
qman__yes19:17
qman__but using green drives is just asking for trouble19:18
DuvrazhWell aware19:18
qman__expect disks to drop left and right19:18
DuvrazhThey've held out in a raid config for about 5 months and only 1 went bad19:18
qman__caviar blacks are the minimum WD19:18
qman__RAID class preferred, but they'll do19:18
qman__my current server is running samsungs, already had two go bad19:19
qman__fortunately not at the same time, so I could RMA them19:19
sw0rdfishwhat is the line to add in sites-available/default to make it force the usage of SSL19:20
Duvrazhis ext4 bad for raid?19:20
qman__no, ext4 is probably your best pick on linux19:20
qman__but none of the common linux filesystems have checksumming, you'd need ZFS for that19:21
Duvrazhzfs isn't as stable I thought19:21
qman__not in linux19:22
qman__it wasn't even an option in linux until recently19:22
qman__btrfs isn't stable either19:22
Duvrazhscrew it... i'll stick with ext419:22
Duvrazhwhat's the command for it? I keep finding 2/3 but not 419:22
ChmEarlsw0rdfish, sudo a2enmod ssl; then look for sites-available/default-ssl19:22
Duvrazhmake2fs doesn't support ext4?19:22
qman__don't know off the top of my head, always used the installer19:23
qman__google should tell19:23
Duvrazhgoogle is my nemesis today19:23
sw0rdfishChmEarl, thanks19:24
Duvrazhgparted?19:24
qman__gparted is for paritioning19:24
qman__though I think it's capable of creating filesystems, it also requires a GUI19:25
Duvrazhyuck19:25
nkvI prefer JFS on linux over ext4.  I've had some bad luck with ext based fs.19:26
nkvon servers at least19:26
qman__ext3 has always been good to me19:26
qman__lost some files with reiser, lost entire filesystems with XFS19:26
qman__only time I tried JFS, ubuntu couldn't mount it at boot19:27
qman__catch-22 file issue19:27
* nkv shrugs. I worked at an ISP in the 90s and ext3 would eat the filesystems more often than JFS would when we had system crashes19:27
nkvThat sorta set my bias19:28
nkvso, it may not be relevant anymore19:28
qman__before my time with linux19:28
nkvAs long as you don't use ext2, you are probably pretty safe. :)19:29
qman__my only important advice is don't use XFS19:29
qman__total filesystem loss in a crash is a very real possibility19:29
nkvI use XFS, but it is a crappy port into linux.19:30
qman__unless you have absolute stability, don't use it19:30
nkvyeah19:30
DuvrazhI'm going with ext419:30
Duvrazhjust trying to figure out the damn command. :P19:31
nkvmkfs.ext419:31
Duvrazhneed a few more options than that lol19:32
qman__not really19:32
qman__mkfs.ext4 /dev/md019:32
qman__I knew that, but I just didn't realize I knew it :/19:32
Duvrazhboom!19:33
RoyKthe 'portable' way to do it is mkfs -t ext4 /dev/whatever19:33
DuvrazhI already used qman's command19:34
Duvrazh:/19:34
nkvRoyK: or make the symlink19:34
RoyKsame thing19:34
DuvrazhI don't need portability19:34
nkvIt makes the same thing.19:34
DuvrazhJust need to be able to hook the raid into Twonky and Samba and I'm good19:34
Duvrazhand maybe through DropBox in there19:34
nkvJust mkfs.ext4 isn't a real program. It is a link to mke2fs.19:35
nkvmke2fs knows what to do by the name it is called by.19:35
nkvRoyK was just saying the other command will work on just about any linux distro.19:36
Duvrazhah, well it's a link I'm thankful for19:37
RoyKnkv: both will probably work - but the 'standard' way is to mkfs -t fstype /path/to/dev19:37
Duvrazhsome of the more advanced programs with 20+ options/switches through me for one19:37
Duvrazhokay so raid has ext4 now19:37
Duvrazhhow to mount auto @ boot?19:38
nkvadd it to /etc/fstab I assume19:39
qman__yep19:41
qman__pick a mount point, default options should be good19:42
qman__you could find the UUID but unless you plan on having more than one raid array ever attached, you shouldn't have to worry19:42
RoyKperhaps add relatime or noatime if you expect heavy write load19:42
DuvrazhI already found the UUID19:42
RoyKerm19:42
RoyKheavy _read_ load19:42
RoyKI mean19:42
qman__yeah19:43
RoyKupdating atime can be quite expensive19:43
qman__with atime, a heavy read load turns into a heavy write load19:43
RoyKwhoever got the idea of 'whenever a read occurs, do a write'.....19:43
Duvrazhthat'll kill me when I migrate the existing data over to the array19:44
RoyKwhat amount of data?19:44
Duvrazh4.5 TB19:45
Duvrazhanyways thanks for the help, gotta run19:45
qman__not exactly planning ahead then, with only a 6TB array19:45
* RoyK was about to hint on using rsync --bwlimit, but guesses he will find out the hard way19:46
qman__I need to update mine pretty soon, about 93% full19:46
RoyKseems to me, with linux being able to dynamically add drives and even switch from raid5 to raid6, well, it should be doable19:47
nkvAh.  That actually sounds like it would have been a good canidate for lvm219:47
RoyKa 93% full filesystem is bound to be badly fragmented19:47
qman__yeah, I'm at 8 1TB disks now19:47
nkvThen you can just append another array19:47
qman__need to make a new filesystem with bigger disks19:47
qman__holding out to save up some money, so hopefully I can just build a new server19:48
nkvmd does support expansion of raid5/6 now.19:48
RoyKdoesn't linux support replacing drives with bigger ones, extending the volume by that?19:48
qman__do it up right19:48
qman__yeah, but it'll take forever that way19:48
nkvyou can add drives now and extend arrays hot.  It is really slow.19:49
qman__plus mine is still ext319:49
qman__8TB limit IIRC19:49
qman__a little dumb on my part but ext4 wasn't exactly stable yet19:50
elb0wis it possible to run a xserver on a server?19:53
RoyKlol http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1096/894127714_9f98afa6f5_o.jpg2019:53
elb0wsays cannot open display19:53
RoyKelb0w: it is, but why would you?19:53
elb0wthis html->pdf module im using is looking for one19:53
elb0wI dont know how entailed it is19:54
elb0wis it a bad idea?19:54
RoyKelb0w: if you're connecting from a linux client or something else with an X server, just install xauth etc on the server, and ssh -X to the server and the client's x server will be used19:54
qman__generally, yes19:54
qman__significant performance impact and security consideration19:54
elb0wugh this sucks, didnt say anything in pre-reqs19:54
elb0wman19:54
* RoyK starts humming at the RTFM song19:56
qman__not sure why a simple file conversion tool would need an X display19:58
qman__libraries, sure, but not an actual running X server19:59
elb0wRoyK: it didnt say anywhere in the reqs20:00
RoyKelb0w: just install xterm20:01
elb0wnah im not going to use it20:01
RoyKit's like 50k20:01
elb0whttps://github.com/mreiferson/php-wkhtmltox#readme the Qt made me think that it may of needed X but it never explicitly said it20:01
RoyKso it won't fill up your disk much20:01
elb0wI dont want to rn a x server20:01
pmatuliswhat are "the reqs"?20:01
elb0will use something else20:01
RoyKit's not about running an x server, it's about allowing x to be used from a client20:02
elb0wpmatulis: requirements20:02
pmatuliselb0w: what/where?20:02
elb0wpmatulis: I am not following your logic, you are not really making a point.20:02
pmatuliselb0w: nevermind, i don't have time20:03
fooman2011hello guys20:03
fooman2011 i'm using the last version of "ubuntu server". I have to launch a java program. So I need the jre. But i'm not   sure but it seems that the jre requires Xlibs. I'm using ubuntu server so i don't have any X... How to solve my   problem ?20:03
elb0wpmatulis: didnt ask for any, but thanks20:03
RoyKfooman2011: just use a local X server, ssh -X to the server and the app should appear on your desktop20:03
RoyKlocal, as in on your desktop20:04
RoyKif you're on linux or OS X, it should be in there by default, if on windoze, use xming and putty20:04
fooman2011sorry i'm a newbe i don't undertsand :/20:04
fooman2011mmh ok20:04
fooman2011but i don't want to see anything20:04
fooman2011my problem is when i want to install the jre20:05
fooman2011i have:20:05
RoyKsome windows version, afaics20:05
fooman2011The following NEW packages will be installed: avahi-daemon dbus gsfonts gsfonts-x11 java-common libasound2 libavahi-core7 libdaemon0 libfontenc1 libice6 libltdl7 libnss-mdns libpython2.7 libsm6 libxfont1 libxi6 libxt6 libxtst6 odbcinst odbcinst1debian2 sun-java6-bin sun-java6-jre unixodbc x11-common xfonts-encodings xfonts-utils20:05
RoyKinstall xming, configure putty to do x11 forwarding, start xming, connect with the server etc20:05
RoyKfooman2011: just install them20:05
fooman2011i don't want to use X20:05
pmatulisfunny, on ubuntu live CD sshd is not installed but there is a sshd_config file20:06
RoyKfooman2011: it won't start a big-ass x server, it will only allow you to use remote X20:06

A_B_Hi, When I add a user in 10.10 it doesn't get added to the "users" group. Why is that, and what's it's significance. I'm learning Samba and the documentations I'm reading assumes that all users are added to the "users" group.20:55

roel-i'm installing ubuntu servers automatically using the preseed method21:44
roel-it works fine, but I would like to have the installer prompt for IP-address and hostname only21:44
roel-the IP-address I get a prompt for if I don't specify it using preseeding, but the hostname is always set to 'ubuntu'21:45
roel-is there a way to have the installer prompt for hostname as well?21:45
RoyKjuliux_: I guess you'll need to add that to the forward table as well, but I'm not sure21:46
smwroel-, I am pretty sure there is a way to set it21:46
roel-i know i can set it, but i want a prompt for it during installation21:46
RoyKjuliux_: that is - PREROUTING should be done before FORWARD, so I'm a bit unsure about that - have you tried to tcpdump/tshark/wireshark the traffic?21:47
smwroel-, does it normally ask for it without preseeding??21:47

roel-smw: that's a good question21:48
roel-smw: but I think if I disable dhcp, I have to manually configure the network, including the hostname21:49
roel-yes21:49
smwroel-, I guess what I would do is set hostname after install...21:49
smwI don't know how to help. sorry21:50
roel-no problem21:50
roel-the thing is that I have to set the hostname manually, and also change the /etc/hosts file21:50
roel-which is a bit tedious21:50
jitsRoyK: telling me ?21:50
RoyKerm, yes21:51
smwroel-, why not have a post install script ask for the hostname?21:51
roel-smw: post-install script, haven't looked into that! thanks, let me google that21:51
jitsok.. no haven't tried tcpdump/tshark etc ..21:52
jitsRoyK: do i need to run it on the server or client ?21:52
RoyKjits: the router, obviously21:53
jitsRoyK: ok .. installing tshark .. tcpdump said no suitable device21:54
