Daniel0108coalwater: doesn't matter, I also have a firefox plugin ;)13:20
Daniel0108on my firefox13:21
coalwaterDaniel0108,  link13:21
Daniel0108coalwater: https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/gmail-notifier/ but I just saw that it doesn't work on ff 413:22
Daniel0108coalwater: I just found this one: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/gmail-manager/ :)13:23
coalwateri wanted a desktop one though13:23
coalwateryea i remember those13:23

GraeleightI hope I'm in the right place.18:09
stlsaintGraeleight: right place for what?18:09
Error404NotFoundyou have to ask a question to find out18:09
GraeleightI'm trying to figure out the best way to set my CLASSPATH18:10
Graeleightwhat's the best way?18:12
stlsaintwhat do you mean classpath?18:13
Graeleightit's an environmental variable18:13
stlsaintyou mean in your bashrc?18:16
geirhaenvironment variables you either put in ~/.pam_environment or ~/.profile18:20
stlsaintgeirha: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EnvironmentVariables18:26
geirhabashrc is read too late. It won't make it available to the window manager.18:31
stlsaintiirc bashrc overrides ~.profile18:31
stlsaintgeirha: ah in that sense i wouldnt know18:32

BeltaineIs there a way I can set Update Manager to use FTP instead of http? I'm getting all kinds of failures with it using http.18:35
coalwaterwhat kind of errors? maybe u have invalid repos in the sources list18:37
=== kristian_ is now known as kristian-aalborg
BeltaineAre the repos invalid by default? This is a fresh install of 10.04.2 LTS18:38
stlsaintinvalid? no18:38
BeltaineBasically it will start pulling updates and the progress bar will stop on file 2 of whatever.18:38
BeltaineIf I hit the box for more details, the individual file downloads are showing as all failed, or finished with 0 bytes18:39
Beltaineafter a little while I'll finally get an error saying that not all the packages could be downloaded asking if I want to continue anyway18:41
stlsaintBeltaine: changer your synaptic pacakage manager server to "Select Best Server"18:42
stlsaintBeltaine: its in your software sources menu18:42
BeltaineTrying that now. It got up to file 12 of 124 sat there for about a minute and now giving me the some packages could not be retrieved error18:44
coalwaterare u using any kind of proxies?18:44
Beltainenot that I can control. I work for a K-12 school district and our ISP filters internet content. It messes with cookies on some websites, and I think it's causing the problem here as well.18:46
BeltaineI didn't have this problem updating at home.18:46
BeltaineI was hoping I could force it to use FTP instead and see if it helped18:47
stlsaintBeltaine: it maybe18:48
Beltaineah yeah, I just told it to continue anyway and it gave me a ton of size mismatch and hash sum errors18:48
stlsaintBeltaine: yea your k-12 network is hindering somehow i would say18:49
stlsaintpacket filtering or anything18:49
philipballewmy jack sensing on my laptop is not working it appears. does anybody know a way to see if that can be fixed?19:19
holsteinJACK?19:20
holsteinjack audio? or power management?19:20
philipballewyeah. jack audio19:20
holsteinhmmm, you cant get JACK to start?19:21
philipballewwhen i unplug the headphones it will take about 50 tries for the speaker to engage and start making sound19:21
coalwatermaybe the speaker wire is getting bad19:22
holsteinOK, yeah, i would try and rule out a hardware issue19:22
holsteintry some different live CD's and see if its the same19:22
coalwateror try the speaker on any mp3 player or something like that19:22
coalwatero wait19:23
philipballewi did a live cd. its the same, and on both ubuntu systems running on my system19:23
coalwaternvm i got it wrong19:23
philipballewoh...19:24
coalwaterwhen u enter a speaker there's 2 metal parts that touch each other that makes the computer know that u inserted something, maybe it's stuck, u might need to change that, if its the jack problem19:24
holsteinphilipballew: that seems to support a hardware issue to me19:25
philipballewit seemes to me that maybe ubuntu is not recongnsing i have takin out the headphones19:26
philipballewnot sure though19:26
coalwaterno, i don't think that's probable19:26
holsteinphilipballew: if its the same on a bunch of LIVE CD's, then i would say its not ubuntu19:26
coalwateru could try windows if u want lol19:26
coalwateranyway, my shift is over, me going home :D good luck philipballew19:27
holsteinthat really is more of a hardware thing anyways19:27
holsteincoalwater: laterx :)19:27
coalwatersee you holstein19:27
philipballewi wouldd need to dig up my old windows cd. i could try with another distro or should i try with windows?19:27
sw0rdfishwhat is the best cli web browser ?19:28
philipballewsw0rdfish, i would say elinks or links19:29
sw0rdfishw3m is already installed i heard19:29
sw0rdfishso i'll give it a shot19:30
sw0rdfishbut wait link2 displays pictures19:30
sw0rdfishlol i'll get that one19:30
holsteinphilipballew: you can look in your pulse settings and see if there are 2 device outputs19:36
philipballewunder sound?19:36
holsteinAFAIK, that is handled by hardware... when you take the headphones out, nothing happens in the OS19:36
holstein^ im pretty sure19:36
holsteinphilipballew: the reason windows is being suggested is because of the driver support19:37
holsteinfact is, if you try a couple different live CD's, i think its safe to say its *not* your OS19:37
philipballewwhat if i install windows in vbox to avoid having to make tons of room on my comp?19:38
philipballewthat might work19:38
holsteinnope19:38
holsteinhowever, im suggesting you dont need to install windows at all, its just a really good way to test for hardware issues with drivers that are specifically designed for your hardware19:39
holsteinVbox wont pass through the way you need it too though19:39
philipballewhum. i can on an external drive maybe19:39
holsteini mean, its a hardware problem... but, do whatever it takes to convince yourself19:40
Error404NotFoundjam some compressed air up yer jack hole19:40
Error404NotFoundand yes that was supposed to sound wrong19:41
holstein^ that cant hurt19:41
Error404NotFoundi see that alot on laptops19:41
philipballewi think it is hardware but i figure i'll check before having to do any hardware work19:41
Error404NotFoundlittle dust in there and it wont dc when you take headphone jack out19:41
holsteinphilipballew: that not something you would probably work on19:42
holsteinunless the compressed air trick works19:42
holsteini dont think it would be worth the hassle19:42
Error404NotFoundcompressed air is fast and easy why not just do it lol, all laptops need a good cleaning sometime19:42
philipballewsounds kinda painful to be honest :)19:42
philipballewi opened it up last week and put in a new motherboard fyi19:43
holsteinwell, if you saved the reciept, and feel like doing all that again...19:44
Error404NotFounddid you check to see if yer mobo is fully supported in linux?19:45
holsteinif its the same as the old one, it *should* just work like the old one19:45
holsteinif not, that again supports the theory that its a bad jack19:46
Error404NotFoundis it a brand new mobo or used19:46
philipballewit was with my warenty. they put it in.19:47
philipballewi normally dislike people working on my comp but if it is already covered i usually do19:48
Error404NotFoundso then it probably was used19:49
philipballewi can call them up and have them put another one in by the end of the week if i so choose19:49
holsteinphilipballew: i think thats a good call19:57
philipballewill install windows on my external and see if that functions well. if it does i will get back on here or something19:58
holsteini dont think windows will let you do that*19:58
holsteinanyways, im sure you can sort it out19:58
philipballewi know my way around a ubuntu well19:58
Error404NotFoundi run windows off an external...20:04
Error404NotFoundi use the same windows install on an external for 2 diff computers20:05
philipballewwhat version of windows?20:06
Error404NotFound720:06
holsteini remember it was quite tricky to install XP like that20:07
Error404NotFoundit installs a couple drivers when you switch computer but only takes a few seconds20:07
holsteini tried for a bit, and decided it wasnt worth it20:07
bioterrorError404NotFound, based on winpe?20:07
philipballewi have a copy of 720:08
Error404NotFoundwtf is winpe20:08
Error404NotFoundive heard that b4...20:08
Error404NotFoundoh preinstall20:09
Error404NotFoundin win 7 it just works if yer puter has option to boot from external20:10
