[00:10] man, so much discussion I missed today during work :) [00:37] stop working so hard [00:45] brousch_: sorry, I'll work harder on... dangit! [00:45] doh [00:45] poor greg-g can't win [01:16] heh [02:12] anyone want an irccloud invite? [02:12] I'm good, thanks. [02:13] d00d. it's irc [02:13] in [02:13] the [02:13] cloud [02:13] still good. ;) [02:15] I've got irc in my personal cloud [02:16] wrong. it's not the cloud unless it's html5 [02:18] irc + html == fail [02:18] it's really pretty good [02:19] what did you use for irc on the cr-48? [02:22] oh, apparently catherine devlin was lurking on the grpug email list. she saw me mention a presentation and now i'm really on the hook [02:22] whose catherine devlin? [02:22] * jjesse_ is stupid === jjesse_ is now known as jjesse [02:23] jjesse: organizer of pyohio [02:24] She's come out and given some talks in A2 and such as well [02:24] OLF fan [02:24] yeah, good gal [02:29] ok, my goal is a blog post and pyohio proposal tonight [02:29] quit distracting me [02:29] widox: http://uploads.mitechie.com/index.html [02:31] http://unserializableone.blogspot.com/2007/09/simple-directory-browser-for-amazon-s3.html [02:34] https://gist.github.com/1003755 === smoser` is now known as smoser [03:20] snap-l: there is linux sunray server stuff. you get it rollin yet? [03:20] hm, hit my first snag with chromeos. how to edit a rst file? [03:21] vim? [03:21] nano? [03:21] joe? [03:23] it's a web browser [03:23] no java [03:23] no shell [03:26] ah, sent it to dropbox and then i can edit it in sourcekit [03:26] surely you can get a shell? [03:29] i don't think so [03:30] ok, found a shell [03:31] no nano or vi though [03:32] <_stink_> sed? [03:32] it has ssh, so you can edit stuff on remote servers [03:33] which is consistent with the chromeos philosophy [03:34] i'll have to make a little file dump on dreamhost where i can plop things and then ssh to edit them with vim [03:39] oh, nice. i can make windows and switch between them using alt+1 - alt+0. this means i can organize pretty much how i do in osx and linux [03:40] ctrl+1 - ctrl+0 switches between tabs in the current window [03:51] jrwren: Not yet. [03:52] I gave it about 15 minutes of fiddling [03:52] But yeah, I think I'll set up pa VM and get the oracle server running [03:59] brousch_: src:kit app is great [04:00] ah, nvm you found it as a catch up [04:00] quite nice [04:00] brousch_: The shell / terminal that ships wth ChromeOS is pretty rough [04:00] and uses dropbox, so all the docs are synced to my desktop/laptop [04:00] you can unlock it and get access to a better terminal and even some better ssh [04:01] Part of the reason I couldn't deal with it. [04:01] brousch_: yea, I used src:kit for doing notes at pycon [04:01] create rst files, and then when I went to do my podcast, they were on my main laptop [04:01] supposedly it's gotten better, I saw a commit that it supports ssh keys now [04:01] ok, well i got the blog post out and half of the pyohio proposal typed up. i'm calling it a night [04:01] awesome [04:01] let me know if you need a hand with the pyohio stuff at all [04:02] it seems pretty easy [04:02] I'm out myself, night [04:02] nedd to sleep on the extended description and outline [04:02] rick_h_: orly? [04:02] That was a big bugaboo for me [04:03] OK, off to do some dishes. Laterness, everyone! [12:27] I'm going to citizen's arrest you all for sharing pandora account passwords: http://yro.slashdot.org/story/11/06/02/0342220/Tennessee-Makes-it-Illegal-To-Share-Your-Netflix-Password [12:32] snap-l: watched the win8 video...it has tiling! lol [12:38] :P [12:40] finally, a mainstream window manager for rick_h_! [12:41] meating, bbl [13:14] I find it interesting how my right click menu in gnome-terminal is unavailable when firefox locks up [13:45] rick_h_: Yeah, heard that password sharing thing on NPR last night. That's just dumb. [13:45] jcastro: way to speak the truth in that newsletter blogpost [13:45] rick_h_: That Windows 8 video goes against everything I've ever loved about the desktop interface [13:46] I think the best metaphor is the cluttered board behind the screen. [13:47] It's too cluttered. [13:47] come on, we all knew the start menu would need a breakout box at some point [13:47] not like windows is going to launcher style [13:47] The computer now looks like the fucking weather channel [13:49] It also looks grafted [14:04] it amuses me that I frequently, daily, hear a word processor in this office [14:04] what is it saying? [14:05] beep beep beep beep [14:08] <_stink_> yeah, we should publicly shame whoever uses it [14:20] or should [14:22] http://openmetalcast.com/2011/06/01/open-metalcast-special-announcement/ [14:36] Yay, getting Internet Explorer 8 on my machine [14:36] along with a warning that not all company applications are compatible with INternet Explorer 8 [14:36] At least someone is trying to rip the band-aid off. [14:37] IE8? Haven't you heard...that's old [14:38] <3'd that Google is deprecating IE7 on google apps [14:43] Hey, at least someone is trying to get us out of this mess. [15:12] i had no idea there was a weekly ubuntu newsletter [15:42] firesheep for android http://faceniff.ponury.net/ [16:28] brousch_: Yeah, it's been kicking for a while now [17:52] anyone try out the Meego distro? [17:54] I tried it out a few months ago. it's pretty slick [17:55] what hardware? [17:55] eee pc s101 [17:56] atom cpu [17:56] cool, thanks. easy to install? [17:57] yeah, very easy. they provide a usb stick image. [18:17] i'm at IESF - a 1 day conf hosted by Mentor Graphics and there is a bit of talk about Linux in the future in vehicles. [18:17] GENIVI.org seems to be a user group focused on this. [18:22] Apparently Borders is moving all of their eBooks over to Kobo [18:22] The confusion between the two must've been way too much [18:24] from what? [18:24] what was the other reader? sony? [18:24] Borders had their own storefront [18:25] oic [18:25] and the readers sold by Borders went to that storefront [18:25] that's a good thing for kobo [18:25] they're sending an update which will likely send that over to Kobo now [18:25] their new reader is getting rave reviews, but the store side is still something that holds me back from one of them [18:25] Well, it's pretty stupid to have two separate apps [18:25] Esp if you use the iPhone app [18:26] We'll see how this works [18:26] They already had me merge my library [18:26] cool [18:26] which means I have access to the one book that I bought from Kobo as an experiment with the Sony [18:27] I'm one of their best eBook customers, though, even though I bought only two eBooks from the Borders store. ;) [18:27] lol [18:27] One stross book (just to see how it worked) and JoDee bought a Dr. Who book. [18:27] Sorry, Doctor Who. ;) [18:28] Apparently there's several updates since I last turned on the wireless. :) [18:29] http://www.i-programmer.info/news/87-web-development/2517-google-webrtc-browser-based-communications.html [18:29] Interesting, but not too hopeful [18:30] http://www.kobobooks.com/touch_readinglife [18:30] Whiskey Tango Foxtrot [18:31] hey man, badges are the new thing. everyone likes them, even rick_h_ ! [18:31] hah! gamification time [18:31] yea, I missed the boy scout phase to get badges then [18:34] Third update. [18:35] heh, see how much better your device could have been? [18:35] gotta do the updates :P [18:35] Apparently. [18:35] Fourth update. [18:35] Wonder if I'm in an update loop [18:37] what are you updating? [18:38] ah e-reader [19:10] I've lost count on the upgrades [19:10] I think it's up to 8 or so [19:11] They rolled out 1.9, and I was on something like 1.7 [19:11] with a bunch of minor upgrades along the way. [19:17] Yeah, this thing is just caught in a loop [19:17] it's not updating shit [19:21] uh oh [19:42] Yeah, did a reset on it to see if that takes care of it [19:42] of course that means I have to type in all of my passwords again [19:42] yippee [19:43] probably ran out of room. :) [19:43] * snap-l runs a tight ship on his ereader. [19:44] you have password(s) on your ereader? [19:44] Well, this inspector has about 15 minutes to get here [19:44] yeah, for the store and wifi [19:44] inspector? [19:45] ah, gotcha [20:42] rick_h_ snap-l would you mind taking a peek at my proposal to make sure i'm not being stupid? http://dl.dropbox.com/u/101667/cfp_template_2011.rst [20:42] this is my first conference talk [20:46] looks good, [20:47] Great, now I'm able to kill my kobo with the Learning Python epub book [20:47] python won't run on kobo [20:47] well I think it is the largest python book known [20:48] THing is it was able to run just fine beforehand [20:49] fucking piece of shit [20:49] should send them an email :) [20:49] Yeah, that'll be productive [20:49] maybe they can get you one of the newer models [20:49] for a small $ee [20:49] they'll send you a $10 gift card for borders [20:49] ok, sending in the proposal [20:50] "not valid with any other offer, or on days that end in 'Y'" [20:50] brousch: awesome! [20:50] I'll try to help support you when the flames come in :) [20:50] haha, thanks [20:50] with gondor.io, heroku, etc the concept of the "server > cloud" is going to raise some fur [20:51] i saw a note last night that they've only gotten 6 proposals so far [20:51] yea, was just checking in there [20:51] he said they had 12 at this point last time [20:51] well i'm not saying don't use the cloud, just use a regular old server until you need the cloud [20:51] kind of crazy, they grew nearly 2x each year...wonder what's up this year [20:52] a good question [20:55] crap, i forgot to request that i not be put up against rick_h_. i really need the sqlalchemy tutorial [20:58] now i need to dive into more Flask so i'm better prepared [22:52] Today at school the pc repair teacher was giving out parts, and one of the things I got was a Compaq DeskPro EN (Small Form Factor Version), As of now, it has a 133mhz Pentium III And 384mb RAM, I want to use it to host a game server, most likely a Warsow, or Quake III Arena server. Which Distro should I use, its going to be a dedicated server, a gui is not needed (Not wanted either). [23:07] You could probably put something like Ubuntu Server on that [23:07] though I'm not sure how much memory that would need. [23:13] Alright, sweet, thanks. [23:17] <_stink_> last i tried a stock ubuntu server install, it ran fine with 256 MB RAM [23:18] Should I use the latest version? [23:27] I'd stick with something like 10.04 [23:38] Alright, sweet thanks.
