cablopi was trying to set muon or whatever manages the updates to offer me security and updates only and not proposed and backports... in synaptic i can tell it to have those repos enabled but not to prefer them00:33
Ddpbfit is all same settings00:34

Ddpbfie /etc/apt/sources.list00:35
Ddpbfyou could edit mannully00:35

cablopi know i can add repos there00:36
Ddpbfor via graphic interface (synaptic, muon, kpackagekit, USC)00:36
cablopbut, what about making it prefer some of the active repos over others?00:36
Ddpbfapt allways goes for newer software00:37
cablopyep, synaptic keeps that preference, i think it is synaptic only00:37
Ddpbfthen use synaptic00:38
cablopbut the kde updater is there offering me to install that software00:39

BluesKajBelserusk, oops din't notice the gtk a15:28
genii-aroundBluesKaj: Odd15:28
BluesKajdon't use gnome Belserusk , so Idunno , but oxygen is defintely part of kde15:30
sithlord48does anyone here know about packaging ? im having an issue getting this deb to deploy anything to /usr/bin15:30
BelseruskBladeFreak, thanks.15:30
BelseruskBluesKaj, I know that Oxygen icons can be used in GNOME15:31
BelseruskBluesKaj, Are you on Kubuntu 11.04?15:32
BluesKajBelserusk, yes Kubuntu 11.0415:38
BelseruskBluesKaj, what rating would you give it out of 10?15:39
BluesKajBelserusk, I use them because they are default, so far i haven't bothered changing15:41
=== massimo is now known as Guest98449
BelseruskBluesKaj, ?15:42
BelseruskBluesKaj, No, I mean what would you give it out of 10? 10 best the highest rating. e.g. 9 out of 1015:43
BluesKajBelserusk, it's a matter of taste ...that's like asking , "what's your favourite colour "15:45
BelseruskBluesKaj, that's easy. My favorite color is blue.15:46
BluesKajand I don't know how I would rate it til I try some others first :)_15:46
BelseruskFor example I give Ubuntu 11.04 just 4 out of 1015:46
ct529hi. Serious problems here on production machines after updating to 1104. Konsole actuallt freezes the machines and need rebooting, causing large losses of data and work on production machines. Anyone who can help?15:47
BelseruskI give Ubuntu 10.10 eight out of ten15:47
Belseruskct529, did you upgrade via update manager or via CD/USB?15:48
virgolushi15:56
virgolusthere is a way to upgrade kubuntu 10.10 to kde 4.6.3 from 4.6.2?15:57
Belseruskct529, which was it?15:59
ryrychhi16:05
BluesKajvirgolus, add the ppa ,  sudo apt-add-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports16:07
virgolusI'm trying16:08
ct529Belserusk: through update manager16:08
virgolusI have ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports repo16:08
ct529Belserusk: the update seem to have gone well, without any substantial problem16:08
Belseruskct529, I think it is usually better to upgrade via CD/USB16:08
virgolusno ppa?16:09
Belseruskct529, opinions vary16:09
* BluesKaj thinks update manager should be banned16:09
ct529Belserusk: yes, I agree .... the point is that we cannot upgrade all of the PCs through CD16:09
Belseruskct529, ah yes16:09
ct529Belserusk: anyway, now the problem is there and apparently other people are having it .... look at the internet16:10
BluesKajvirgolus, if you can a 11.04 ppa for kde 4.6.3 to add to your repos16:10
BluesKajfind16:10
virgolusI try16:10
=== jsa_ is now known as Guest10483
Belseruskdoes kubuntu have all the same packages as ubuntu16:27
Belserusk?16:27
rwwBelserusk: They use the same repositories, so the list of available packages is the same. Kubuntu comes with a different set of packages installed by default.16:29
rwwe.g. KDE instead of GNOME16:29
BelseruskThanks rww16:30
ct529Anyhow, we are trying to find a solution.... anyone who is having the same problem? We really need to run applications from terminal16:35
Belseruskct529, sorry but I do not have a solution for you.16:39
virgolusBluesKaj, in kubuntu backports ppa there are only 4.6.2 package16:40
selvakumaranHey there?16:40

selvakumarani have kubuntu-10.10-desktop-amd64,. but it doesn't installing on my AMD athelon machine., Any i can assist me?16:41
BluesKajvirgolus, I suppose then kde 4.6.3 won't run on kubuntu 10.10 , if it isn't available officially16:42
BluesKajselvakumaran, how old or new is your amd pc ?16:42
ct529virgolus: no, I have upgraded to 46316:42
szalselvakumaran: define "AMD Athlon"16:42

virgolusok guys thx for support16:43
ct529virgolus: sorry for the mistake16:43
selvakumaranct529: itz a processor.,16:43
virgolusI'll upgrade nest time16:43
BluesKajtry the alternate cd selvakumaran16:43
BluesKaj!alternate16:43
ubottuThe Alternate CD is a classical text-mode install CD. It supports a wider range of hardware than the !LiveCD, and can also be used as an upgrade CD.  Look for the alternate checkbox on the Kubuntu download page - See also !minimal16:43
virgolusnp ct529 :)16:43
ct529virgolus: I am afraid you will have to rebuild .... it is a pain16:43
virgolusno problem16:44
BluesKajor upgrade to 11.04 virgolus16:44
virgolusmy installation need a clean up16:44
szalselvakumaran: of course it is..  but which variant?  Athlon?  Athlon XP?  Athlon64?  Athlon II?16:44

selvakumaranszal: :p sorry, itz athlonII16:45
selvakumaranBluesKaj: but i m runninh ubuntu on the same machine finely16:46
szalselvakumaran: in that case, no need for a fresh install, just install kubuntu-desktop16:46
ct529virgolus: I meant you could rebuild it for 10.1016:46
szalselvakumaran: and choose Session type KDE on login16:46
virgolusI know16:47
selvakumaranhmm? on login?16:47
virgolusbut with a 2.0 ghx cpu it's too long16:47

BluesKaj!works for me16:52

selvakumaranBluesKaj: yes, i m trying 4 a fress install16:52

Madmoethis is the mount output17:27
Madmoebut the thing is i can visually see all the windows files from inside Natty!!17:28
Madmoeand go into folders and delete stuff and read from!!!17:28
selvakumaranMadmoe: Ya u can, itz the most advantage of ubuntu across all linux17:29
marxjohnsonMadmoe: It'll be a problem with the grub config17:29
selvakumaranthough some offers17:29
marxjohnsonWhat may have happened is that Ubuntu thought grub would see the Windows partition as a certain number, when it actually sees it as another17:29
marxjohnsonI've had a  similar thing happen before, but only when I've had 2 hard drives (which I guess you dont in an MBP?)17:30
Madmoemarxjohnson: and how that should be fixed??17:30
selvakumaranMadmoe: Dude, i m really sorry, i m not such a brainy to help u out on this,. i m just a learner . you may better try marxjohnson's idea17:30
Madmoemarxjohnson: Is it the case where i have to reinstall grub from a live CD?17:30
marxjohnsonMadmoe: you should be able to reconfigure it and get it working, hold on, I've got a utility installed that might help17:31
Madmoeselvakumaran: sure thing thanks anyways17:31
marxjohnsontry installing "grub-customizer" with apt-get17:31
marxjohnsonay8a8+u17:31
marxjohnsonwhoops17:32
marxjohnsonignore that17:32
selvakumaranMadmoe: Welcome17:32
Madmoeok17:32
Madmoewill try now17:32
marxjohnsoncool17:32
marxjohnsonIt might be that you just need to get it to autodetect your OSes again17:32
Madmoemarxjohnson: i did try running grup-update after i have installed everything17:33
marxjohnsonhmm perhaps not then17:33
Madmoemarxjohnson: are u sure its grub-customizer?17:34
marxjohnsonyeah17:34
Peace-hi17:34
marxjohnsonMadmoe: ah, it's from a PPA17:35
Madmoemarxjohnson: yes and what a PPA?17:36
marxjohnsonPersonal Package archive, it's an extra APT repository which you have to add17:36
Madmoei just installed natty i didnt have time to tamper with sources!!17:37
marxjohnsonsudo add-apt-repository ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer && sudo apt-get update17:37
Madmoemarxjohnson: how did u know??17:37
Madmoeah ok17:37
marxjohnsonthen you should be able to install it17:37
Madmoemarxjohnson: i'll restart and get back to you17:46

Grue_got a question... the repos in the PM are ubuntu repos right?21:48
jordan_when i have my desktop effects on when im playing a game or trying to use gimp i have a little trouble21:52
jordan_like when i use the paint brush in gimp its slow mode looking21:53
jordan_i have kubuntu 11.0421:53
jordan_i didnt have this problem with kubuntu 10.1021:53
jordan_also i have everything uncheck but blur and make window transparent in certain situations like when you grab it21:55
jordan_i dont think there was a kernel change between kubuntu 10.10 and kubuntu 11.0421:56
jordan_so my drivers should be correct21:56
lcbjordan_: i think it depends on performance of your machine. I have a good one and sometimes gimp takes a while to drag 'kind of' big graphics21:59
jordan_hmm21:59
lcbjordan_: save the project and open it again, to free some22:00
jordan_but in kubuntu 10.10 i didnt have any problems22:00
jordan_blender is working great with deaktop effects on22:00
lcbjordan_: check the services and stuff your machine is consuming on that installation. probably you are running more tasks than before22:01
jordan_and blender takes alot more power then gimp im pretty sure of it22:01
jordan_lcb, k22:01
lcbjordan_: in fact i have a bigger issue with gimp. i didn't install it as root but olny runs as root22:01
jordan_im updating now22:02
jordan_i have 13022:02
jordan_hmm22:02
lcbjordan_: so check if you have unnecessary ones. i would need to do that too, one of these days.22:02
jordan_what pack manager are you suing22:03
jordan_using*22:03
lcbjordan_: in general 11.04 (in my opinion) runs better, comparing w/10.1022:03
jordan_apt?22:03
jordan_apt always make me use sudo22:03
lcbjordan_: apt-get, synaptic, the kubuntu default.. :) it depends the mood and how busy i am22:04
jordan_lcb, that makes me happy22:04
jordan_lol22:04
* Linkmaster has never liked synaptic22:04
lcbjordan_: hmmm... i don't remmenber if i installed this last one with apt. but that gives me the idea of trying different installation methods22:05

lcbLii drunk one, an old french one22:06
lcbjust kidding22:06
jordan_after that i couldnt install anything22:06
lcbgeee22:06
jordan_it was a problem with the ttf22:07
jordan_that was odd22:07
jordan_its fix now22:07
lcbare you sure it was wine?22:07
lcbmaybe vodka?! :o22:07
jordan_yes22:07
jordan_i unstalled it22:07
lcbmy wine runs fine22:07
jordan_well not wine it self22:07
jordan_the ttf front22:08
lcbwith water ?22:08
lcbahh22:08
jordan_for some reason it didnt install all the way22:08
jordan_i think i got disconnect during that installation only thing i can think of22:09
lcbapt-get --purge remove wine && reboot ... and reinstall it22:09
jordan_its fine now22:09
lcbjordan_: but about the gimp issue. i would use bleachbit as root and as user to clean the system. you'ld see a lot of improvement22:10
jordan_i wish the desktop themes were design more stylish22:10
lcbjordan_: but be careful selecting the options..22:10
jordan_i just got done removing alot of things22:11
lcbjordan_: i believe Kubuntu devs already contacted Pierre Cardin an Christian Dior  to make some other ones.22:11
lcbthemes..22:12
jordan_i had this issue before i guted out this system22:12
lcbjordan_: fresh installation or upgrade?22:12
jordan_i always do fresh22:12
jordan_i never upgrade22:12
lcbgood, join the club22:13
jordan_i hear horror stories22:13
lcband always having separated "user" partitions22:13
jordan_i hust have two primaries / for root and home22:14
jordan_just*22:14

jordan_what does that help?22:16
lcbj/k22:16
jordan_im just wondering cause i dont know?22:16
lcbjordan_: /user /etc?22:17
jordan_yes22:17
lcbthat's where you have your user applications and configurations, respectively. so is good to (at least) have a copy of it22:18
lcbnot that you'll need the core files but you might need to check the previous configurations, for instance, on /etc22:18
jordan_k22:19
jordan_i kind of understand lol22:19
lcbjordan_: on the other hand before an upgrade, running a live cd and backing up or compressing those directories would do the same.22:20
lcband any distro on one partition runs better (i believe)22:20
lcbjordan_: those fancy icons, themes etc are in /usr, for example.22:21
jordan_oh your going it cause then you dont have to reinstall everything22:21
jordan_ok i see now22:21
lcbif you like it and on a future installation you don't remember where you got it you still have a copy of it22:22
