YuzuchanWindowsで起動すると正常なんだよな。17:19
daedaluzbest input method for japanese?21:43
micahcowanAnthy seems to be a common choice. It's what I'm using.21:45
micahcowanEasiest is just to go into the Language Support settings and add the Japanese language support and input method.  Or install a Japanese-language installation of Ubuntu. I think Anthy is used for those cases too, though the particular system on at the moment, I installed Anthy manually (I don't really recommend it).21:47
micahcowan(Assuming you're not a native Japanese speaker/reader, having a Japanese-language system is good practice in the language, provided you have a good way to look unfamiliar words up)21:48
daedaluzso, ibus+anthy, then?22:11
daedaluzand no I'm not native, I just need japanese input to find better touhou pictures22:14
Silmarwenyay, one more non-japanese here:D22:14
daedaluzas22:15
daedaluzあたし葉日本人です22:16
Silmarwenhow come you're not native then?22:17
Silmarwensorry, didn't mean to dig into your private life:D22:18
daedaluzなにが”でんぱ”ですか?22:19
Silmarwenif you could speak proper english until now, why can't you just go on in that language?:)22:21
daedaluzのよに”でんぱおんあとせいしゅのとこ”22:21
daedaluz俺フィンランド人。。。22:23
Silmarwenwhois says norwegian22:24
micahcowanwhois isn't perfect22:24
Silmarwen:)22:24
micahcowanHe may be getting his connectivity through a Norwegian company, I dunno22:25
Silmarweni'm not questioning him22:25
Silmarwenjust mentioned it22:25
Silmarwenor her, sorry22:25
micahcowangotcha22:25
Silmarwenthem, let's stay politically correct:D22:25
daedaluz俺のるうえでどさするよ22:28
daedaluzばいと22:28
daedaluzhm, how to make kanji appear bigger in input box? hard to see what I'm selecting22:29
micahcowanHm, I don't know, haven't needed to adjust it so far.22:31
daedaluz俺は姫様にゃにゃ。22:31
micahcowanBut you should proofread it befor hitting enter; I'm having trouble making out some of what you've typed. Like the bit starting with 「のよに”」22:32
micahcowanThough I'm guessing おんあ = おんな22:32
Silmarwendaedaluz, have you tried adjusting the font size yet?22:33
Silmarwenidk if that helps though:)22:34
daedaluzmicahcowan: was supposed to be "no yo ni", something wrong?22:35
daedaluzSilmarwen: bad thing is it applies to all of desktop22:35
daedaluzhmm, I think I'll just file a suggestion to fine people at ibus22:36
micahcowandaedaluz, well, I was referring to that whole sentence. But I don't understand "のよに". The closest I can think of is "のように", but that can't start a sentence, so I don't know.22:37
micahcowanOh, I think I just got it.22:37
daedaluzyea it was continuity to previous sentence asking what "denpa" means22:37
micahcowanThe のように should probably have gone after the quote. And you mistyped こと at the end, unless I miss my guess22:39
micahcowanThe only でんぱ I know is 電波, electromagnetic waves22:39
micahcowan(BTW, I'm not trying to criticize, just trying to understand what you wrote)22:40
Silmarwenjapanese can be damn tricky at times :D22:42
Silmarweni've studied it for 4 years and i'm still awful at it22:42
Silmarweneven though i had a native teacher22:42
daedaluzso... ”でんぱおんあとせいしゅのとこ” is... ummm.. electromagnetic waves woman and young man, huh?22:43
micahcowanI've studied it (off and on) for 20, and I'm still not great, either. Getting there.22:43
Silmarwenmicahcowan, where are you from?22:43
daedaluzI just watch a lot of anime and play VN's & Touhou22:44
micahcowandaedaluz, not really sure. Maybe you meant せいしゅん for "a youth"? I have trouble parsing that too. Maybe in more context...22:44
daedaluzwell that's the title of anime22:44
micahcowanAh, I'll look it up.22:44
micahcowanSilmarwen, 米カリフォニア州  w22:44
Silmarwenyou're american?22:45
daedaluzyea I was thinking "seishun" hs to be something else, as 少年 would be young boy and 青年 young man22:45
micahcowanはい22:45
Silmarwenyour english is weird22:45
Silmarwen:D22:45
Silmarwennot what i'm used to22:45
Silmarwen:)22:45
daedaluzSilmarwen 日本人ですか?22:46
Silmarwennah, i'd speak japanese then:D22:46
daedaluzyou know, this channel is anything but ubuntu right now. poor japanese people, having their chat invaded so22:47
micahcowanSo, I found 電波女と青春男. でんぱおんなとせいしゅんおとこ. Your translation seems decent.22:47
micahcowandaedaluz, I had that same thought. Could move it over to #nihongo :)22:47
daedaluzis it true that nippons are terrible in english?22:48
Silmarwendaedaluz, they used to be fine with that:D22:48
micahcowanBut on the other hand, they're probably all sleeping or something right now, so maybe they don't care... it's not quite 7時午前 there yet...22:48
Silmarweni mean having me here, and i'm not japanese and i no longer use ubuntu22:48
daedaluzme neither actually22:48
daedaluzI use openSUSE and KDE22:48
Silmarweni use windows :D22:49
Silmarweni wanted to switch back to ubuntu before moving to the states22:49
micahcowanSilmarwen, you're talking about my English? What sort of English are you used to? ;)22:49
Silmarwenbut since it's delayed, i'm not:D22:49
Silmarweni mean i dont22:49
Silmarwenmicahcowan, yes, yours22:49
Silmarwenmore22:49
Silmarwenum22:49
Silmarwenit's hard to describe22:49
Silmarwenit's weird you use full sentences22:49
daedaluzhuh?22:50
Silmarwenyou actually use the correct verb tenses22:50
micahcowanHahaha. Yeah. I'm weird that way.22:50
micahcowanProbably spend too much time reading books.22:50
Silmarweni read a lot too but i'm violating the english language every time i speak/write22:51
Silmarwen:(22:51
micahcowanCorrect grammar seems to be on the decline in the US, at least on the internet.22:51
micahcowanI violate certain rules too, but I guess not most of them. I usually even avoid dangling prepositions.22:52
micahcowanEven though I think that's a totally bogus rule, and can't even always be followed.22:52
micahcowan"Where did you come from?" certainly sounds a lot more natural than "Whence came you?" :D22:52
daedaluzUSA never had correct grammar. It's "centre", not "center" and favourably, not favorably22:52
micahcowanWell, but that's spelling, not grammar.22:53
Silmarwenmicahcowan, i feel like hitting people who whine about dangling prepositions with a shovel22:53
micahcowanI find more fun from the fact that our "billion" isn't your "billion", and then there's things like "aluminum" versus "aluminium" :)22:53
daedaluzwell, you can't spell right22:53
Silmarwendaedaluz, it's correct to us22:54
Silmarwen:)22:54
daedaluzpotassium, not kalium, is the one bugging me most. also, billion, not milliard.22:54
Silmarweni think colour and theatre looks funny22:54
Silmarwenlook22:54
Silmarwendamn22:54
Silmarwen:D22:54
daedaluzget a grip. and then, fahrenheits and feets, get a grip!22:54
micahcowan"feets"?22:55
daedaluzit's not 18th century anymore22:55
micahcowanWe actually use theatre on occasion. Mostly when we're trying to sound a bit posh.22:55
Silmarwenfahrenheits and foot are fine, you just have to get used to it22:55
Silmarwenthem22:55
micahcowanSilmarwen, you're American as well? Because, your whois says .hu :)22:56
Silmarweni'm not22:56
Silmarwenbut i prefer american english22:56
micahcowanGotcha.22:56
daedaluzmikä teitä vaivaa?22:56
micahcowan:D22:56
daedaluzcolonies should use proper english IMHO22:57
Silmarwenand my whois will say unknown soon, hopefully22:57
Silmarwen:)22:57
daedaluzhow to mask IP? I've been wondering that22:57
micahcowandaedaluz, not entirely sure. I think it's a faq at the freenode site, though.22:57
daedaluzthanks for tip. when I'm in university network, people can pinpoint my room in IRC, so it's kinda unpleasant22:58
micahcowanAha. :)22:58
micahcowanWell, I think it varies from IRC network to IRC network. But you could use Tor for a more general solution22:58
Silmarwentip?22:59
daedaluzI want to be a unknown hime-sama, nya~22:59
Silmarwenthis will go straight against my political correctness but23:00
Silmarwenthat sounded gay23:00
Silmarwennot that there's anything wrong with the homosexual23:00
micahcowanIt sounds pretty usual to me23:00
micahcowanWell, with a "the" before it, anyway23:00
Silmarweni meant homosexual people?23:02
micahcowandaedaluz, http://myanimelist.net/anime/9379/Denpa_Onna_to_Seishun_Otoko has it as "Electromagnetic Wave Woman and Adolescent Man", FWIW23:03
daedaluzあたしはおんあのこです。。。23:03
micahcowanSilmarwen, "the homosexual" is grammatically correct.23:03
Silmarweni know23:03
Silmarwenthat's why i used it23:03
micahcowanThough some people object to referring to people by an adjective.23:03
micahcowanPersonally, I think such arguments are silly. Go yell at Hugo for "Les Miserables" while you're at it ;)23:03
Silmarwenum23:04
Silmarwenwhat are we talking about exactly?23:04
Silmarweni said he sounded gay then added there's nothing wrong with homosexual people23:04
micahcowandaedaluz, そうだとおもった。 姫様だってからね :)23:04
micahcowanSilmarwen, and then you asked if it'd be better as "homosexual people", unless I misunderstood your question23:05
micahcowanThe "It sounds pretty usual" thing I said was referring to daedaluz saying "thanks for the tip"23:05
Silmarweni didn't23:05
Silmarweni thought you were referring to what i said23:05
micahcowanGotcha.23:06
Silmarweni understood it after a while too, anyway23:06
Silmarwentip made me think of the pointy end of an object23:06
micahcowanOh. I think I get it now. :)23:07
Silmarwenor the extra money you give to the waiter:)23:07
