[00:12] * MarkDude just got back from ECS refining- got a great tour [00:12] We are setting up another tour maybe this month [00:13] They are fully ethical recyclers [00:13] how fully? [00:14] check ban.org [00:14] and the SJ newspaper [00:15] http://www.mercurynews.com/science/ci_18210254?source=most_emailed&nclick_check=1 [00:15] They signed the E-waste steward contract a while ago [00:15] They are also adding a plant in Stockton [00:15] They used to have to send some stuff to Texas [00:16] NOW , they will not have to do that [00:16] ALTHOUGH, polluting Texas would be my 1st choice [00:16] Dont MEss with Texas? I agree [00:17] Just remove the DONT part [00:20] wiki: http://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/Projects/UbuntuHours edited [00:29] might they have a cracked/shattered lcd panel i could salvage an IC from? [00:54] I wonder if iheartubuntu ever found out about that 386. [01:01] MarkDude: yes/no? [01:02] I do [01:02] viewsonic I think [01:02] sn9, I will check when I get home [01:02] * MarkDude is waiting for traffic to die down [01:02] before heading home [01:03] looking for a 46" samsung panel from a sony tv [01:03] must be cracked/shattered [01:06] nope [01:06] small monitor [01:11] they don't get tv's? [01:11] The laws might restrict that [01:11] BUT [01:12] when we get ewaste drive later this summer [01:12] we can grab it 1st [01:12] ah [01:12] * MarkDude has new contacts there [01:12] talked again with the owner [01:12] one of them- its family owned [01:51] pleia2, I just posted pics from tour on Partimus FB page [01:51] Once I get videos set and describe the stuff- I figure it can be put out for general consumption [01:54] Anyone else interested in supporting us- https://www.facebook.com/pages/Partimusorg/194279050609041 [01:54] We need some more likes [01:57] So I introduced my friend in the US Army to Ubuntu a few days ago, and finally got his setup working about 2 days ago. He showed it to his colleagues and they loved it. By this time, his whole company - about 60 of them - is using Ubuntu. [01:58] congrats :) [01:58] Now they're going to push for it and try to get the entire battalion to use it. [01:58] Thanks! I think this is a big win. [01:59] The things that they particularly love is the user interface, easy of setup and use, and the music player. [01:59] MarkDude: can you send a link to discussion@lists.partimus.org? (I think a lot of our volunteers aren't on facebook, or may not know about the partimus facebook page) [02:04] MarkDude: also, is this the same place James works with? trying to get these computer recycling places in my head straight :) [02:04] I will do pleia2 . [02:04] YEs [02:04] ok cool [02:04] We can hold an equipment drive [02:04] I'll also nudge grantbow about getting blog.partimus.org set up [02:05] have ECS bring their trucks [02:05] we keep the machines we want [02:05] and make hot dogs! [02:05] everything else is taken away [02:05] How's it going MarkDude? [02:05] and we get $ [02:05] Great dragon [02:05] What event are we talking about? [02:06] Getting more machines for partimus [02:06] GK can help with volunteers [02:06] ah, I see. [02:06] I can help, depending on availability. [02:07] $500- 4000 can be raised [02:07] depending on event [02:07] We will use the same person as ACCRC does [02:07] I dont want to step on their toes [02:08] BUT, they charge for stuff the state already gives them money for [02:08] donations when people bring stuff is fine [02:08] OPTIONAL ones tho [02:08] all this no cal stuff makes me kind of wish i hella stayed in SF [02:08] Free Geek does that [02:08] in hindsight, i wonder if i could've spent my days at noisebridge [02:08] and ALMOST everyone still gives money [02:09] seidos, good stuff will be /is happening in Socal [02:10] MarkDude: like what? [02:10] Geeknic [02:10] once I get list back from wayward volunteer [02:10] MarkDude: :o do you know where, exactly? [02:11] Well a volunteer was typing up the list [02:11] and sorta just nutted up [02:11] Weird [02:11] k^2 [02:11] it wasn't me was it? [02:11] lol [02:11] no [02:11] yay! :D [02:12] Although both of us may have nutted up [02:12] just not in this case [02:12] i'm the Failure Specialist [02:13] “Edison failed 10, 000 times before he made the electric light. Do not be discouraged if you fail a few times.” [02:13] Failure is finding ways that dont work [02:13] You ALSO know what works too [02:14] http://www.diablomag.com/Diablo-Magazine/Threads-of-Hope-Nomination-Form/ [02:14] pleia2, ^^^ I am nominating Robert Litt for this [02:14] will include that to ML also [02:17] I don't think I know him [02:19] The bad-ass teacher [02:24] oh right [02:24] he's awesome [02:24] * MarkDude wants to start profiling volunteers [02:24] figured he is a good plce to start [02:25] * MarkDude has to leave SJ now [02:27] go with the Dhamma Eye MarkDude [02:31] Namaste seidos [02:31] * MarkDude bows [03:51] Err, Edison didn't invent the light bulb? [03:51] nhaines, as usual you are correct [03:51] that quote may not even be his [03:52] He DID tho take other ideas people had- and figure out how to promote it better [03:52] Like his DC vs Tesla and AC [03:52] He used AC to kill an elephant [03:52] PR wise [03:52] AC still won- [04:03] wait, wat? that's news. [04:04] maybe edison was psycho [04:05] ah, well, he improved upon an existing invention so that it would become practical [04:06] edison invented not-invented-here syndrome [04:07] they might be worshiping him for that at intel [04:07] sad [04:08] Ummm [04:08] he had like 1000+ patents [04:08] master marketer [04:08] took ideas that would have died [04:08] or were not promoted right [04:08] and made them sumthin [04:08] minus he was underhanded [04:09] still quite a bit can be learned from him [04:09] both how to [04:09] and how not to [04:09] there is your Zen [04:09] * MarkDude has to eat now [04:09] i know that he went to a library and studied his assets off [04:09] bom apetite MarkDude [04:12] bom? is that portuguese? [04:19] sn9: yes. [08:08] Hello [08:20] hi [18:45] hey, can I get some people to go to ubuntu-news.org and tell me the top post they see? [18:46] pleia2: open week [18:46] thanks [18:46] it's very broken :( [18:46] Ubuntu Open Week: May 2-6 2011 [18:46] oh :( [18:46] there have been probably a dozen posts since then [18:46] open week here too [18:46] they aren't showing up, some overaggressive caching or something [18:48] pleia2: maybe you can tell the cache plugin to clear [18:48] yeah, looking for a more permanent solution than manual cache clearing all the time [18:49] pleia2: I'm not too familiar with caching plugins for Wordpress, sorry. [18:49] I think this is the only one I've ever used: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-super-cache/ [18:49] I'm pretty sure canonical puts another caching server in front of wp too, so we just need to figure out where the problem is exactly [18:50] anyway, thanks all :) [18:50] Whatever they're using doesn't spew details out like W3 does :\ [18:51] Can you try it with lynx or something on the machine where it's running? That would eliminate the canonical cache issue. [18:51] (eliminate or implicate) [18:51] akk: lynx would probably hit the cache too [18:51] only canonical folks have access to their servers anyway [18:52] It would hit a local cache, but not anything outside the machine. [18:52] But without access to the server that's moot. [18:59] akk: the problem is view caching being done by the wordpress plugin [18:59] so it would be the same, unless the cache gets cleared [19:00] which the plugin doesn't seem to be doing correctly [19:00] * pleia2 submits ticket to canonical
