[00:27] hello. someone has an good idea for a good working soundcard for ubuntustudio? the one I have at the moment makes ugly sounds [00:34] eichi: is it onboard? [00:34] your card that is [00:35] because, usually on board cards output a lot of noise, more if it is on a laptop [00:35] rule of thumb, is to use a external interface [00:35] either usb or firewire, depending on what you need [00:36] there are people using internal saund cards like the delta 1010 etc [00:36] USB interfaces are suported on linux if the comply with the usb specification [00:37] you can check for that if they run in windows or mac without installing drivers [00:37] usually that is stated on the box or on the specifications list [00:50] okay. at the moment its onboard, yes [00:50] but dont have windows or mac [05:26] ls [06:21] * ParadoxGuitarist chuckles [10:33] http://www.arlt.com/Hardware/Multimedia/Soundkarten/? can someone tell me one soundcard, which woks good and ootb in ubuntu? [10:48] !hardware | eichi [10:48] eichi: For lists of supported hardware on Ubuntu see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport - To help debugging and improving hardware detection, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingHardwareDetection [13:52] ailo: Hi! [13:52] AutoStatic, Hi! Guess why I'm here? :) [13:53] Hello danboid, yeah I saw your mail on LAU :) [13:53] And iirc ailo was working on a similar tool [13:53] AutoStatic, Thats right! Whats this tool called? Has it got a webpage, git or whatever yet? [13:54] Wasn't it a rewrite of ubuntustudio-controls? [13:54] ailo posted some screenshots [13:54] But ailo should know best, I'm only guessing here :) [13:54] Well I missed that [13:56] AutoStatic, OK, I can wait 'til he re-appears [13:58] I think ScottL should know more about it [13:58] too [13:59] ScottL, ? [14:00] US 11.04 has moved to XFCE right? [14:00] Ah, found something [14:00] https://gitorious.org/~ailo [14:01] AutoStatic, Is it the audio-system-check you're thinking of? [14:02] Hmmmm, that only checks, no testing [14:03] And USC only sets things up, no testing either [14:03] AutoStatic, Yeah, not quite what I'm after [14:05] There's the realtimequickconfigscriptthingamajigshiznitz script ;) [14:05] But that only checks too, no testing either [14:06] And I picked up somewhere that FalkTX was working on integrating or turning that script into a GUI thingy [14:08] Yes, FalkTX would seem to be the dude most likely to come to the rescue here- I hope! :) [14:48] danboid, Yes, I believe falktx has done some work on integrating sound systems, like PA and jack for KXStudio. He's been working on a -controls type of application that controls jack and does a system check and a bunch of other things. I myself have only been working on setting up Ubuntu for realtime audio pretty much. [14:49] ailo, Hi! [14:49] ailo, Any idea what falk's app is called? [14:51] danboid, I think it's called Cadence [14:51] Just looking if I can find the git repo [14:52] danboid, git://repo.or.cz/cadence.git [14:53] danboid, It's a bunch of apps [14:54] danboid, The README explains a lot [14:55] It's under development.. [15:06] ailo, Thanks! I've gotta shoot off for a short while now but I'll take a look later and see if its what I want [15:54] past meeting logs https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/Meetings/2011June5 [18:44] hello. I'm again searching for a soundcard, I can by for best ubunt studio support [18:55] I know nothing about hardware. You might try #kxstudio or #opensourcemusicians for a faster response [20:08] eichi: ? [20:08] RME is arguably the best quality, and well supported [20:09] holstein: okay. but got now a Creative Audigy 2 ZS [20:10] help was from my main-distribution IRC channel (archlinux) but should work with ubuntu same or better ;) [20:34] eichi: ? [20:34] depends on what you want [20:34] if you are interested in playback [20:34] just use what you got [20:34] anything creative is sub-par for recording [20:37] hm okay. hm, not good ;) but its 10€ now. better then onboard. then maybe i should buy a better one next weeks [20:38] but recording is "only" voice. no complex instruments of course [20:43] good day [21:00] streaming a session [21:00] http://holstein.shacknet.nu:8227/stream.ogg [21:01] Krasslig: hello [21:01] eichi: doesnt matter what you are recording, if you want it to sound good... [21:01] ubuntustudio hmmm [21:02] is this the best program for producing music on linux? [21:02] ubuntustudio is not a program [21:02] its a collection of apps [21:02] anyways, im going to be busy for a bit... [21:02] check us out http://holstein.shacknet.nu:8227/stream.ogg [21:02] :) [21:04] Was it someone in here who tipped me off about cadence earlier? [21:20] Krasslig: check out #opensourcemusicians when you get a chance [21:20] links to tutorials for using the software included in ubuntustudio and other goodies :)
