[16:00] Ziku: maybe [16:00] is this nvidia hardware? [16:01] nope, ATI Radeon HD 4650 - i'm using ATI driver though had the same problem since I've installed ubuntu studio for first time (it's my second OS) [16:02] Ziku: whats the first OS [16:02] windows? [16:02] yes, Win7 pro 64bit [16:02] are you using the proprietary driver? [16:03] i've downloaded driver from ATI website [16:03] OK [16:03] thats what im using with my nvidia dual head rig [16:03] the proprietary driver* [16:03] Ziku: you might need to make a custom xorg.conf [16:04] Ziku: the deal is, ubuntustudio = ubuntu [16:04] I was reading about it, but I don't have such file in X11 at all [16:04] SO, when you are searching, dont search ubuntustudio [16:04] just search, ubuntu whatever ATI card dual head [16:05] Ziku: if you put an xorg.conf in place, it'll be used [16:05] yeah, I was searching for ubuntu, but you see, i'm not too familiar with console stuff so maybe I've missed something [16:05] you can make, and put an xorg in place without the console [16:06] sudo gedit [16:06] gksudo gedit [16:06] ^ gksudo is prefered [16:06] what's difference? [16:06] you can start this by using alt+F2 [16:06] and typing gksudo gedit [16:07] Ziku: not much difference these days, but it used to be starting a graphical app without gksudo would be bad [16:07] !gksudo [16:07] If you need to run graphical applications as root, use « gksudo », as it will set up the environment more appropriately. Never just use "sudo"! (See http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/graphicalsudo to know why) [16:07] anyways, its going to be challening Ziku [16:07] since, ubuntu doesnt make that driver, nor are they allowed to support it [16:08] hmm.. ok, i've created file xorg.conf in etc/X11, still it's empty as I don't know what to put in it ;P [16:08] yeah, but I had the same problem with default ubuntu driver [16:08] sure, and i dont either [16:08] since i dont have your hardware [16:08] but, i have used live CD's in the past [16:08] knoppix for example [16:09] and, you can try the configure command [16:09] *which i forget right now [16:09] ok [16:09] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config [16:09] sudo Xorg -configure [16:10] thank you [16:10] you'll still need to poke around though and sort out how to add the 2nd display i think [16:10] surely I will :) but at least now I know where to start [16:10] Ziku: i gotta run, but, try that, and also, try something like #ubuntu-beginners [16:10] somewhere relatively slow-ish, but active [16:10] okay, thanks again [16:11] maybe someone in your loco team even [16:11] http://loco.ubuntu.com/ [18:25] hi all. anyone awake?
