BajKwill kpackagekit be available for oneiric in the repositories as well?11:52
BajKor is there Muon only?11:52
Ian_Corneis it safe to update atm? :)12:02
BajKah ok the great KPackagekit is available for Oneiric :) *removing muon*12:16
yofelBajK: what's so bad about muon?12:34
BajKits user interface is annoying and constantly changes12:34
BajKand since policykit is broken it gets even more annoying12:35
yofeltalk to JontheEchidna12:35
BajKsince it asks for password EVERY SINGLE package you install12:35
BajKand if you installed a package, it reverts back to the overview menu12:35
BajKand you have to type in your searach again12:36
BajKso I know what I will do when Oneiric is out :) Uninstall Muon and install KPackagekit (which is also available froms ystemsettings)12:36

BluesKajHowdy14:03
charlie-tcaGood morning, BluesKaj14:05
* BluesKaj wonders why oneric istill on kde 4.6.3 , my other pc just upgraded to 4.6.4 on natty .. I have the kubuntu backports in the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/14:05
BluesKajhi charlie-tca , and a good morning to you too :)14:06
charlie-tcaheh14:06
charlie-tcamaybe backports is not yet enabled for oneiric?14:06
* charlie-tca thinks backports doesn't work until there is a release version to backport to14:07
BluesKajthey're 404ing alright ...I thought I'd complain sincw oneric is supposed to be running kde 4.714:08
BluesKajyeah, probly not til the RC is released , next week I believe14:09
charlie-tcaThey just finalized the specs for Kubuntu, maybe today or tomorrow it will change14:09
yofelcharlie-tca, BluesKaj: we're not bothering with 4.6.4 on O, we'll rather start with 4.714:13
yofelwich is delayed since KDE made a mess out of the beta1 release...14:14
BluesKajyofel, right , any idea when ?14:14
yofelwell, I'll start with kdelibs today, but the KDE release team hasn't given a new date for beta2 yet14:15
yofelyou could try neon if you can't wait14:15
BluesKajno wonder nobody has been able to find the beta2 , that was scheduled to release on Wed.14:16
BluesKajno thanks , I had a look at neon , I'll wait for the backports14:17
BluesKajthanks for the info yofel :)14:17

HydroAssassinHello Everyone I recently updated pango from source and now my X fails to load due to a libpango1.0-cario error before it finally fully crashed X all my fonts were  [][][][]. Anyone have any idea? Tried a bunch of things ppl had put on ubuntu and backtracks forums to no sucess. http://www.pastebin.com/d0Jwpj0e#17:22
ikoniaHydroAssassin: what version of ubuntu are you using ?17:22
HydroAssassin10.04.2 - lucid17:24
ikoniaHydroAssassin: really ?17:24
HydroAssassinyes17:25
ikoniaHydroAssassin: this channel is for ubuntu 11.11 discussion not ubuntu 10.04 and in #backtrack-linux you said you where running backtrack not ubuntu,17:25
ikoniaeither way, this isn't the correct channel17:25
HydroAssassinyes ive tried the ubuntu and backtrack ir channels to no help.. same as fourms thats wh i figured id try here.17:25
ikoniaHydroAssassin: ok but keep in mind this channel is for ubuntu 11.11 only, and not backtrack or other ubuntu's17:26
rww11.1017:26
ikoniasorry 11.1017:27
ikoniathank you rww17:27
HydroAssassinMy bad, do you know of any other irc channels by hand that could possibly help?17:27
rwwBacktrack support goes in #backtrack-linux. Everyone who wants to support Backtrack Linux sits in here. That's how IRC works :|17:27
rwwthere **17:28
HydroAssassinthats what i figured... always have trouble with other distros... =\ prob going back to gentoo so much easier lol well thanks for your help.17:28
rwwMaybe you should switch to a distro with a support channel that actually works.17:28
rwwDunno about Gentoo, but random Ubuntu derivatives do not tend to have that, which is one benefit of Ubuntu.17:29
rwwor, you know, Debian, but I'm a heretic like that.17:29
Ian_Corne<< back on 11.1018:26
Ian_CorneI'm ashamed18:26
BluesKajIan_Corne, why ashamed?18:29
Ian_Cornebecause I shouldn't18:31
Ian_Cornethis is my laptop I'm writing my thesis on :p18:32
IdleOneI suggest you back up that work like NOW18:32
charlie-tcahehe18:32
* genii-around sips and thinks about some saying involving alpha software and production machines18:34
rwwindeed18:34
* charlie-tca thought about that too, before installing oneiric on his machine he needs to use18:36
charlie-tcaand then I did it anyway. What a fun machine it is now :-)18:36
BluesKajIan_Corne, yes back up asap . my son almost lost his on windows , he was using encryption app thast became corrupted and he couldn't rescue the data with in windows but he rescued by copying it using the ubuntu livecd18:40
BluesKajhe's publishing this fall18:41
Ian_Cornehehe, i'm using version control so all is fine :)18:49
Ian_CorneAnd for that reason I'm not using encryption on my entire home18:49
Ian_CorneI'll make a encfs if i need something encryted18:50
IdleOneis it normal that I get NO login screen, have to kill X and then run startx and it boots directly to what appears to be Gnome UI?18:52
IdleOneI am guessing this has to do with lightDM18:52
Ian_Corneis it normal alot of icons are missing?18:53
Ian_CorneI'm using unity 2D18:53
Ian_Corneals the normal one just doesn't do anything for me atm18:54
* BluesKaj feels for those running gnome or unity19:03
rwwI should probably upgrade Kubuntu to 11.10 and see how it's doing19:06
trismIdleOne: possibly, after you kill X, instead of startx, try: sudo service lightdm start; and check out /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log for errors if it fails to start19:33
rwwIdleOne: startx doesn't invoke a login screen ever, btw19:41
rwwperhaps s/ever/normally/. I'm sure someone will think of a counter-example otherwise ;)19:42
BluesKajsudo service gdm start ?19:48
BluesKajor kdm19:49
BluesKajkde seems very stable on "O" so far19:50
genii-aroundBluesKaj: I had some issues with dist-upgrade today between 4.6.3 version and 4.6.4 , but eventually resolved it.19:54
BluesKajgenii-around, did you manage to upgrade to 4.6.4 ?19:56
IdleOnetrism: I will give it a shot next reboot. rww: hmm did not know that.19:58
genii-aroundBluesKaj: Eventually :) It complained at first about kdelibs mismatch, used --force-depends, then a few other libs, etc. Had to manually install them from /var/cache/apt/archives19:58
Ampelbeinhmm, is anyone else experiencing problems with network connectivity on oneiric? In random intervals my wired connection gets unresponsive and I have to restart networking to get it going again.19:58
genii-aroundBluesKaj: There's still not yet an Oneiric section in the kubuntu ppa, so I'm still using the Natty one19:59
BluesKajgenii-around, ok thanks...think I'll wait for the 4.7 ppa ...going to 4.6.4 seems too complicated :)20:01
dsdaleis there any news concerning wireless network management?20:17
