mr_runei need help about ubuntu 11.04, virtualbox 4.0.8 and iphone 405:28
mr_runesomeone, please....?05:28
erbunhaha wow thats a lot to need help with whats up?05:28
mr_runethanks :) explaining the scenario...05:29
mr_runeubuntu is the host, using virtualbox to create a windows 7 virtual machine05:29
mr_runei downloaded the add-ons the usb file that make usb ports to work, everything ok until now05:30
mr_runeiphone 4 jailbroken, with openssh installed05:30
mr_runethe problem: i connect the iphone, the w7 recognizes it, open it as a camera (normal behavior) BUT i cant connect to it via winscp05:31
mr_runequestion: is there a way to connect the iphone to a w7 virtual machine via winscp ( to save some photos before sync and losing everything)?05:32
erbunwell.. honestly I have never tried to do that, however, maybe we can find a different solution.  I take it your main goal is to pull photos off your iphone?05:33
mr_runeyes, i'm planning to sync it the normal way with itunes after that, but first i need to save that photos05:34
mr_runei'm open to any ideas05:34
erbunI don't have an IPhone, but do have an ipad and ipod, and I have found that I have been able to pull media off of them through ubuntu directly without a need for itunes.  My only concern is if they label their photos like the ipad does its music and if they do, if you have a lot of photos, it might suck to get the photo names correct05:35
erbunbut I can't see any issue with pulling all of the files off through Ubuntu.  You may have jacked up file names, but the photos I think would be there05:36
mr_runeoh thats not a problem here, the photos doesnt have names anyway05:36
mr_runethe problem is: they are not in the camera roll05:37
mr_runethey are in that album that sync with your images library05:37
erbunif you plug the iphone into ubuntu, without vm running, do you get a little pop up asking if you want to use such and such image viewer?05:37
mr_runeyes, it asks to open banshee and shotwell05:38
erbunok wait one05:38
mr_runeshotwell doesnt show any photos (since it only show photos that are in the camera roll) and banshee doesnt show any music (i really dont know why)05:39
mr_runemusic is not the problem, i can get them again....but i cant take the photos again :)05:39
erbunHmm.. the Banshee thing is odd, as with my ipad it works perfectly.  I have to admit, with the camera thing I have little xp with.  I'm kinda anti apple and have only a little xp with working with them.  lemme google a couple of things05:40
mr_runesure, thank you very much for your help man05:41
erbunhey dude no worries.. Its usually a tough crowd in the linux world, and I still consider myself a newbie.  People are rough.  God forbid you ask a question most of the time eh?:)05:42
erbunhow many pics do you have?05:43
mr_rune33005:43
erbunshit there goes the email method haha05:43
mr_runeLOL05:43
mr_runenot an option here05:43
mr_runei tried with gtkpod, but it only get the thumbnails05:44
mr_rune16x16, horrible05:44
erbunwhile im reading a couple things, I have to get my shots in.. Im just sayin... I dont have this problem with my evo;)05:44
erbunsorry lol couldnt help it05:44
mr_runei'm really considering to get another phone05:45
mr_runeiphone is amazing, but...since i made ubuntu my only system, i'm stuck in this point05:45
erbunI work in the wireless communication world.  If ou ever have any questions just let me know05:45
mr_runesure05:46
mr_runewhat smartphone do you recommend?05:46
mr_runeoh i just remembered....is it viable to use ubuntu one or dropbox to upload the photos?05:47
erbunYou a huge fan of ATT?05:47
mr_runeit's not an option here on brazil05:48
mr_runebut ebay is :)05:48
erbunhaha.. I use the evo from sprint, which is the same as the thunderbolt with Verizon and the Inspire for ATT.  The phone has a nice large screen and is super powered under the hood05:49
erbunit all boils down to network with that phone05:50
erbunOkay man.. not saying its gonna be easy.. but so far the only close solution Ive found is the following blog:05:51
mr_runebetter than iphone? i still have to see a better phone that it here05:51
erbunhttp://birdynumnum.wordpress.com/2010/12/15/how-to-get-your-iphone-ios-4-2-1-to-work-with-ubuntu-10-10/05:51
erbunnot sure what your options are down there but yea.. friends who used to brag about their iphone are now trying to get out of their contract to get the htc evo or one of its brothers05:52
erbunjust the processor alone is damn near double the speed.. brb gonna go smoke05:53
mr_runehmmm05:54
mr_rune4.3.3 here, but i'll try lets see05:54
mr_runethats for installing libmobiledevice06:02
mr_runeits not in the repositories anymore06:03
mr_runewhat about fuse?06:03
erbunnot sure.. hold on06:09
mr_runedon't know what im doing here....just installed some fuse and gvfs files....i remember i did read about it in some sites....06:10
erbunwhen you  plug in your iphone into ubuntu can you get access tothe dcim folder?06:13
mr_runeyes06:16
mr_runeDCIM>100APPLE>nothing06:16
mr_runethe thumbnails are in another folder, with strange names06:18
mr_runeCDFG.jpg, for example06:18
erbunYea APple names things random names which is tracked through a database to try and keep people from doing what you are trying to do06:19
mr_runelol06:19
erbunthey do the same thing with music too06:19
mr_runedamn apple06:19
mr_runeyeah, the musics are in another folder, same strange names06:20
mr_runewell06:20
mr_runeat least is there a way to upload the photos to ubuntu one?06:20
erbunyea.. dude Im not having much luck find much else.. wish I was more help06:21
mr_runeor....will i lose quality if i send them to my email?06:21
mr_runeno man, i apreciate very much your efforts, really thank you06:22
mr_runei foud some docs, but they were for gentoo....lots of pages of commands and other hacker stuff to do such simple thing, like to save a photo06:22
erbunyou shouldnt lose quality sending to email, as most emails will except much larger then a high def file attachment.  Yea.. Like I said man, this is exactly why I refuse to buy anything else apple.  They make a great product, as long as you buy nothing but apple and you do things the way they want you too06:23
mr_runei'm really inclined to get and android phone.....maybe samsung or htc, just for the compatibility with ubuntu06:25
mr_runewait, updates available, maybe its the solution...06:28
erbunHopefully, on the other note, I highly suggest htc.  Anyways.. i gotta crash.. you have a good one man06:30
mr_runenot without its flaws...06:31
mr_runetesting06:31
mr_runehmmmm banshee recognized the music...reading the tags hmmmmm.....06:34
mr_runeerbun: the force is with you man06:34
mr_runeyeah yeah anthrax FTW06:51
mr_runewell the music problem is solved06:51
mr_runei downloaded something that made banshee recognize properly the device06:52
mr_runenow to the photos06:52
mr_runeerbun: hey man gtg now, but thank you very very much, really07:15
kristian-aalborgyo all07:15
mr_runethe music is safe, going to research more about saving the photos07:16
kristian-aalborgI installed nautilus for the dropbox functions... I'm wondering if it could be slowing my system down a bit?07:16
mr_runekristian-aalborg:  are you in gnome?07:16
kristian-aalborgno, openbox07:17
mr_runei believe yes, it could07:17

serfussince i have installed and started to use hebrew in my natty, spell checking in english is not working. how can i get it back?13:01
geirhaIn OpenOffice?13:10
serfusgeirha, in general13:12
geirhaHm. I think that's upto each application. And I'd expect most applications to use the current language for spell checking.13:14
serfuslet's say in xchat?13:16
serfusin chromium i found where i can change it13:16
serfusit's kind of odd, in chromium you cah have only one language to be spell checked13:16
geirhaIn firefox I right-click the textarea and choose a different language for spell checking. Haven't tried to do the same in chromium.13:21
serfusi got it in chromium, now i need xchat13:23
serfusshould have been a place where you can choose the language you want to be spelled check.13:26
serfusin general13:26
Sidewinder1serfus, I think X-Chat is installed by default.13:34

kristian-aalborghi all18:41
JimmieHey18:41
holsteinubuntu__: if its overheating on live CD's, the i would think its hardware as well18:42
holsteintry the ubuntu 10.04 live CD18:42
ubuntu__holsten its fine now but the room temp is 30c18:49
ubuntu__i live in a very hot area18:49
ubuntu__holstein: putting it in the freezer helps18:51
bioterror:D18:51
holsteinubuntu__: thats hardware18:51
Sidewinder1Now, I'm totally confused. Wanted to look at Unity; burned an 11.04 livecd after md5summing it (A-OK), put it into a dual boot machine (XP and 10.04) no menu (ie: Try Ubuntu, Install), it just boots to the 11.04 desktop. Funny thing is it's 'gotta be Classic, not Unity as I have Applications, Places, System, at the top panel???Did I do somethin' wrong?18:51
julieubuntu__, the freezer's a pretty harsh approach and could actually cause serious disk problems18:52
ubuntu__julie: oh ok18:52
holsteinsw0rdfish: yup, 3d is not optional18:52
ubuntu__fridge_18:52
holsteinSidewinder1: ^^18:52
holsteinsw0rdfish: sorry :)18:52
ubuntu__julie: i just put it in the freezer for 3 mins18:52
ubuntu__no more18:53
holsteinthere is a package *unity-2d or unity2d, but not availalbe by default18:53
Sidewinder1So the only way to see Unity is to install?18:53
sw0rdfishhello holstein18:53
sw0rdfishlol18:53
holsteinubuntu__: thats a hardware issue, if its 5 months old, you might still be under warranty18:53
ubuntu__holstein: thing is i move soon from se to fi for work18:54
ubuntu__fi= finland18:54
holsteinSidewinder1: there are screenshots... you should be able to install the 2d verion in the live environment, and logout and select it18:54
holsteinubuntu__: doesnt matter, you got a broken box... depends on what you want to do about it18:54
julieubuntu__ my warning was related to the disk plate's contracting in the freezer18:54
ubuntu__Sidewinder1: go to edubuntu site they have a thing that you can log into and see what edubuntu is like / it has unity18:54
holsteinubuntu is just awesome, not magical18:55
ubuntu__Sidewinder1: you dont have to download it to see what its like18:55
julieubuntu__, in order to get reliable operations on a drive, it should remain at the most stable temperature possible18:55
ubuntu__its like a virtual machine18:55
Sidewinder1holstein, That's, IMHO, is rather silly; I wanted to play with Unity first (I'm an LTS guy) in a live environment, mostly to familiarize myself with it too help on these channels...:-(18:56
Sidewinder1holstein, Would you happen to have the edubuntu link handy?18:58
holsteinSidewinder1: unity is default, and gnome is what it gets 'stepped down' to, if the card doesnt have 3d support18:58
holsteinhttp://www.edubuntu.org/weblive18:58
holstein^ looks like18:58
Sidewinder1holstein, That may be it as it's an old system; the sacrificial goat, as it were.18:59
holsteinunity2d should work fine18:59
holsteintry that*18:59
Sidewinder1holstein, Thank you very much!18:59
ubuntu__julie:  tack sa mycket19:00
julieubuntu__, I don't understand that language19:01
ubuntu__swedish meaning thank you very much, its a very big compliment19:01
julie:)19:02
ubuntu__tala du svenska? anyone19:10
holsteinubuntu__: check http://loco.ubuntu.com/19:19
holsteinthere might be a very active swedish speaking community, and if not, you should get one started :)19:20
ubuntu__holstein: jag tala lit svenska19:31
ubuntu__lol19:31
ubuntu__i speak very little swedish19:31
holsteinubuntu__: you personally speak very little swedish?19:32
ubuntu__holstein: ja, but i speak engelska or english as my first language19:33
