[01:16] hi how do get more screensavers in lubuntu [01:26] hi could i get some help getting into lubuntu? [01:30] hello [01:34] is anyone there? [01:40] anyone??????????????????????????'' [01:40] hello iamnewbie [01:41] hi [01:41] whats your issue [01:41] alright so i was on here last night with help from unit 193 trying to install lubuntu [01:41] but when i rebooted for the first time to get in, my login wouldn't work for some reason [01:41] and so i tried getting around it by doing a CTRL + ALT + F1 [01:41] hmm [01:41] but that didn't work for some reason [01:42] so i was about to uninstall lubuntu and go with the gfxd [01:42] try typing your login details slowly [01:42] alright so [01:43] lubuntu starts up. unlike in ubuntu, my login id isn't already filled in. so i'm not 100% sure of my login id [01:43] but i'm pretty sure it's just BK [01:43] ok [01:43] i tried entering tha (BK) and my password, which i know is 100% correct [01:44] try lower case Bk [01:44] so bk [01:44] my login id could have been BK-ub [01:44] but i think i tried that as well [01:44] use lower case bk [01:45] in loggin on, should i select 2.6.38-8 or 2.6.35-24? [01:45] i had burg installed, so i never had to worry which one to select [01:46] they are kernel versions [01:46] ok, i just chose the -8 one [01:46] yes [01:47] well the login isn't working [01:48] i've tried all sorts of variations [01:48] i suggest reinstalling [01:48] and slowly going over each step [01:50] well unit193 wanted me to go into recovery mode [01:50] and run ls /home [01:50] and sudo dpkg-reconfigure lxdm [01:51] that would work to [01:51] ok. in choosing the recovery mode, should i choose -8 again or -24 kernel? [01:51] 8 [01:52] alright [01:52] i am presented with a list of options: [01:53] resume, clean, dpkg, failsafex, fsck, grub [01:53] dpkg [01:53] wait i can't even move the option selector [01:54] hmm [01:54] 2.6.38-8-generic [01:54] oops sorry [01:54] do you know how to move it? i tried pressing the down arrow button, but that brought up some command line stuff [01:55] oh no, i'm past that screen [01:55] can you do cd /home [01:56] no [01:56] when i get the screen with the resume, clean, dpkg options, i can't move the selector [01:56] if i press the down button, the pc goes into a check mode of various stuff such as battery state, ACPI daemon, eCryptfs [01:58] any idea how to move the selector? [02:02] anyone else on? [02:34] Hello, all... does the Lubuntu kernel not support Xen hypervisor? [02:34] xend won't start on my machine. [08:35] <[deXter]> Hi, anyone around? [08:46] <[deXter]> Hi all, how do I use the temperature applet for lxpanel? === zmijunkie_ is now known as zmijunkie [11:54] guys how can i get gedit3 ?? [13:04] my new monitor is capable of better resolution than lubuntu thinks I can use (preferences --> monitor settings) Do I need to do a sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg ? [13:13] hi [15:00] http://askubuntu.com/questions/43989/cannot-use-blank-wallpaper-with-lxde-crashes-lxde Anyone else having problems with this? [15:20] hi [17:03] lubuntu is too slowwww! how do I make it faster!? [17:04] what exactly is slow about it? [17:04] browser and multitasking, mostly [17:04] throwing ram at the problem would be good, but I don't have any handy. is there any cruft I can cut out? [17:05] so you've identified memory access as the bottleneck? [17:05] or paging? [17:06] that's a semi-educated guess [17:06] piii-m 600mhz / 256mB are the specs on this machine I think [17:06] uh, yeah. so you're getting frequent swapping? [17:07] sometimes yea [17:07] might want to turn off images, flash, etc. in browser or use a lighter browser [17:19] Quintin: Trying to "multitask" (run several GUI apps at once) in 256MB is asking a lot... for that, I think the real answer to "how do I make it faster" is "Add some more RAM" :) [17:19] jmarsden: where the hell am I going to find PC RAM SODIMMs! :( [17:19] Ebay? Your desk drawer? Who knows? :) [17:20] yea, I am using links2 -g now to view documentation instead of chrome :| [17:21] For documentation reading, do without the -g and save even more resources :) [17:22] every now and then there's a picture :| [17:34] jmarsden: hi [17:43] Seriously. Setting the background to fill with solid color kills X. :) [17:44] It just dies. [17:45] the last try caused lxdm-binary to go 101% cpu ;) [18:23] * pcman calls for a review for pcmanfm. [18:23] many bugs are fixed. [18:23] a new release is wanted.
