Russ | Hello, I'm new to linux and I'm trying to use qjackctl and ardour to record music. My computer is a fairly nice build(amd phenom II 955 x4 with 8gigs mem, asus mb). I'm using the on board audio w/ my computer speakers. I use a light snake xlr to usb cable to record guitar/vocals. The problem I'm having is getting x-runs about every 20 sec. Clicks and pops and sometime it doesn't show the x-runs but I still get clicks and pops. As | 13:30 |
Russ | The cable is connected to a shure sm58 mic | 13:31 |
Russ | I'm using the kernel 2.6.38-8-lowlatency. The only one installed | 13:32 |

dubphil | my laptop USB controller I mean | 17:01 |
orngjce223 | Try #opensourcemusicians they generally know slightly more about hardware | 17:01 |
orngjce223 | I'm just here to answer the n00b questions. :/ | 17:01 |
dubphil | ok orngjce223 | 17:02 |
orngjce223 | Sorry 'bout that | 17:02 |
dubphil | I hope it is alsa or the kernel | 17:02 |
orngjce223 | It's probably ALSA's fault, most likelyu | 17:04 |
orngjce223 | But again, I know very little | 17:04 |
holstein | dubphil: i usually suggest looking at AVlinux and/or gnuguitarinix | 17:14 |
holstein | AV uses the liquorix kernel, and gnuguitar has its own custom kernel | 17:14 |
holstein | and both are live distros, so you dont have to install them to see | 17:15 |
dubphil | hi holstein yeah good idea I will test this | 17:15 |
