Just in the off-chance that fixes something. See you. [00:16] It works! [00:16] :( [00:16] Well that's nice. [00:16] :D [00:17] i was starting to get scare about it [00:17] XD [00:17] Naw, not an issue. [00:17] :) [00:17] Don't worry. [00:18] :D good then it worked [00:18] Thanks for your help, GridCube and charlie-tca [00:19] :) [00:19] de nada :) [05:49] So... I can't upload a file from a gvfs mounted location unless I manually type it in? That's crap... [07:47] hi [08:42] hey people, need some help on changing profile picture in xubuntu on xfce, kindly help.. [08:43] hey people [08:44] any buddy home... can some one help.. [08:48] narender: Place a jph file in your home with the name .face [08:49] ...or not [09:46] i installed compiz and compizconfg-settings-manager, but i cannot execute compizconfig-settings-manager, because it is not in my $PATH or what? [10:01] stephanmg: isn't it called ccsm or similar? [10:01] !compiz [10:01] Compiz (compositing window manager), for a howto see http://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompositeManager and more help #compiz === knome_ is now known as knome [10:23] gr8m8: mh i don't know i'm on natty narwhal. [10:23] ccsm isn't found still [12:22] is there a way to have xfce4-session start a window manager other than xfwm4? [12:23] i found tutorials online that say you can just kill xfwm4, start you window manager, and save the session, but that doesn't seem to work (anymore) [12:24] or is there maybe a channel that's more suitable for xfce questions? [12:24] there is always #xfce [12:24] they may know better [12:24] thanks [12:30] marijn: use session editor [12:31] on session tab you have all applications registered by session [12:32] Wizard: which binary is that? xfce4-session-settings? [12:32] xfwm4 [12:32] don't quit it! [12:32] which wm do you want to run instead of xfwm? [12:32] xmonad [12:32] you're asking for toubles ;P [12:32] i can get it to work for a single session by killing xfwm4 and starting xmonad, but as soon as i log out it's back to the default [12:33] no, really, it seems to work surprisingly well [12:33] than kill xfwm, start xmonad and click save session in session settings [12:33] xmonad doesn't show up in the list of running programs there, though [12:33] and i can't figure out why not [12:34] probably it doesn't support xsession protocol [12:34] i guess it doesn't [12:34] where is the session saved? i could edit it by hand... [12:34] http://www.haskell.org/haskellwiki/Xmonad/Using_xmonad_in_XFCE [12:35] check this out [12:35] that's what i followed [12:35] hmm [12:35] doesn't seem to work with the latest xfce [12:35] ~/.cache/sessions [12:35] okay, let me try [13:13] * Wizard yawns [13:20] is it somehow possible to show file transfer speed in the copy/move progress windows in xubuntu ? [13:27] hmm, i think it is not possible in thunar.. [13:28] and i don't remember if any file manager does that [13:29] you can allways fill feature request, it would be nice :) [13:50] hello ;) [13:51] hi keitazor [13:57] feature request for xfce or xubuntu? [14:00] for xfce would propably be better [14:00] you can use iotop [14:01] cool tool [14:02] xfce devs are pretty friendly.. i suggested one change, the told me: send a patch [14:02] ;P [14:03] xfce is quite short on staff [14:03] yeah, i know [14:04] i even tried to prepare that patch for them, but i failed :) [14:04] it's still propably the most stable DE [14:04] some apps and plugins are getting old, but still great [14:05] the only thing which annoys me is xfce's lack of consistency [14:05] and general interface guidelines [14:08] but what i like is that from release to release it's getting better (and still not bloated) [14:10] it has features i like, and it *works* [15:11] What is the name of the menu in the botton that xubuntu uses? [15:11] In Xubuntu 11.04, that is called panel 2 [15:11] I mean, what is the name of the package? [15:12] It is a panel, just as the one on top is a panel [15:12] We hand built the launchers into it [15:12] as part of the theme [15:12] I see, it looks nice, I thought it was something else. [15:13] nope, the package providing it is the greybird theme [15:13] thanks [15:14] You are welcome === haakon_ is now known as haakon2 [17:00] is there an easy way to format an sdcard to fat32? [17:02] gparted [17:02] Ah, I knew I had seen that mentioned somewhere. thanks. [17:02] :) [17:03] now, how to burn an img to it to make it bootable?lol [17:03] I'll find it through google. [17:05] image? [17:05] use unetbootin to make booteable usb stuff XubuntuKris [17:06] It's not a usb [17:06] it's an 8gig class 6 sdcard [17:06] :P could you place it on a usb card reader? [17:06] pendrives are just that but integrated [17:08] I've found a guide. it's showing a terminal command "dd if=blabla of=blabla [17:09] * GridCube doesnt know about that he just uses unetbooting when he wants booteable stuff [17:10] there is also a way to install grub into it and tell it to boot the img inside, don't really know how [18:35] ping [18:35] is there a way to put thunderbird in message-indicator? [18:36] not yet [18:37] i see there's a tutorial on ubuntu forums, i guess it won't blink envelope icon, just adds thunderbird to indicator menu [18:51] seems i was right [18:57] k, i've added gnome integration plugin, installed notify-send and now it at least shows balloons [18:58] Hello [18:58] Wizard: There is an addon on launchpad (Not official!) that will add most/all of what you may be looking for (I use it) https://launchpad.net/libnotify-mozilla [19:01] Looking for help with Translation settings in puTTY. I get strange characters when I look at info pages in a puTTY session connecting to a laptop running xubuntu. Typically this is resolved by changing the translation settings in puTTY to UTF-8 however this does not seem to resolve the problem. Any suggestions? [19:03] i have no idea, Warlock_11 [19:03] but i may try [19:05] could you tell me which info page are you browsing? [19:05] I was looking at top [19:06] hm, it doesn't show any strange chars in xfce term [19:06] do you have translated info pages? [19:08] No I don't use any translated pages. At work I can simply export my DISPLAY to my Windows Desktop and run xfce4-terminal and it looks good at home however via VPN I don't want to suffer through tunneling an Xsession to my laptop. [19:10] I run a Squid Proxy on off of this laptop for my Admin team that gets us around a websense filter. It was the easiest way to deal with having to request a bypassed IP address each time we added a new device to our desks. [19:13] I will keep digging on google.com/linux and see what I can find. i just thought if someone else had come across this. I have been saying I would install a wiki to document all my fixes and just maybe I will do that once I figure this seemingly benign but annoying problem out. [19:14] Take care Wizard! Think its because of some update. [23:50] Wizard: the issue is due to incompatibility with Xorg . It is being worked by Xfce, and the workaround is to logout, then restart or shutdown from the gdm screen [23:51] and every distro using xfce has that same issue
