sarcorcan someone help me? I tried to run ubuntu 11.04 through a Live CD, and selected the option of trying it and not installing it. It then proceeded to show a log screen with multiple entries referring to my graphics card. It didn't even boot to the desktop and the CD stopped working entirely. Then the computer just hangs on this screen. What am I doing wrong?05:41
bodhizazensarcor, did you check the integrity of the iso and the burn ?05:43
bodhizazenwhat graphic card do you have ?05:43
sarcoryea, all the files are there, its not just one single iso image05:44
sarcorI even ran the CD on my Win7 desktop and a wizard popped up with the three options of installing it, installing it in windows and learning more05:45
sarcoroh, well this is a ati mobility radeon HD 565005:46
bodhizazensarcor, well, you can try running it in so called low graphics mode05:47
sarcorbut my graphics card is quite recent, i don't understand05:47
bodhizazenand even try installing it, but it sounds as if you will need to configure your ATI card05:48
bodhizazenI am not overly familiar with ati cards, but the driver is not open source05:48
bodhizazensarcor, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=142276205:50
sarcorUbuntu is only default configured with open sourced graphics drivers?05:50
sarcorI can't even get into the actual OS, how am I supposed to configure my ATI card?05:51
bodhizazenThe CD can only hold so much sarcor , apparently it does not have a driver for your card, but according to that thread you can configure it post-install05:51
bodhizazenIt is often similar with nvidia cards05:51
bodhizazenAnd I have this GMA500 card I will sell you =)05:51
sarcorLo, sorry, laptop05:51
sarcorCant take it out without voiding warranty05:52
bodhizazenboot the low graphics option05:52
sarcoris that in f6?05:52
bodhizazenI think yes05:52
sarcorOk, thanks05:53
sarcorI can't get a screenshot or even logs, so it's kinda hard to explain what's really written on this screen05:54
bodhizazenI understand, I have had that problem with my nvidia card from time to time05:55
sarcorWell let me just try to explain it anyway, lol. It reads the cd for a while, then a whole string of entries having to do with removing pci drivers and whatnot appear and a automatic crash report starts going. I can't find the damn crash report though.05:56
sarcorwell whatever, I'll go try to find that low graphics option. Thanks05:58

Duck_Can anyone tell me how to install sun-java for metasploit?07:22
bioterrormeta what?07:22
bioterrorif you dont have partner repository enabled, heres command: sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ $(lsb_release -sc) partner"07:23
bioterrorand after that: sudo apt-get install sun-java6-{jre,bin,plugin,fonts}07:23
bioterrorand then you need to remove that foss stuff that doesnt really work: sudo apt-get purge openjdk-6-{jre,jre-lib,jre-headless} icedtea{-6-jre-cacao,6-plugin}07:23
bioterrorthere you go, now you can enjoy internet like it was 199807:24

bioterrorJesse80, now you can mount your ubuntu partition from the harddrive and look for /boot/grub/grub.cfg if it has that correct line10:06
bioterrorlike my wife has:10:07

Jesse80ok the filesystem is not mounted10:36
Jesse80why would I not have permission?10:36
krusiare you running liveCD?10:37
Jesse80yes10:37
krusiif you run sudo su, you should get to root shell(in terminal)10:37
Jesse80ok10:38
krusithen you would have access, easier and safer way would be just to run sudo mount /disk/location, so you don't messup something on disk by accident :)10:38
krusisudo mount /disk/location/ /dir/location ...is the syntax10:38
Jesse80ok10:42
Jesse80I am trying to access my grub.cfg10:43
Jesse80in the media/ is only on directory, apt/10:43
Jesse80for which I have no permission10:43
krusidid you successfully mount your disk now?10:45
Jesse80no10:45
Jesse80sudo su worked though10:45
Jesse80I obviously don not have enough linux experience10:46
Jesse80Ubuntu was too easy10:46
krusiyou need to mount your primary partition first, if you are in root shell you should issue mkdir /mnt/sda1, this will create directory in /mnt/10:46
bioterrorno point in making sda1 under /mnt10:46
krusinex tyou mount disk in this directory with command mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda110:47
bioterrorjust sudo mount /dev/sda1  /mnt10:47
bioterrorsudo nano /mnt/boot/grub/grub.cfg10:47

Jesse80ok10:55
bioterrorbut check that uuid10:56
bioterrorbefore you reboot10:56
Jesse80how?10:56
bioterrorto be sure that it's correct10:56

Jesse80with the grub.cfg?10:56
bioterroruuid of sda1 with blkid command10:56
Jesse80I never got that to work10:56
bioterrorand then match it with the one in grub.cfg10:56
Jesse80I couldnt find grub.cfg...or didnt have permission10:56
bioterrormaybe you can now mount that hard drive when it's clean from errors, what do you think?10:57
