[23:17] anybody around? [23:20] hi [23:24] howdy. I'm hoping you can clear somethign up for me about louisiana. I was watching a tv show that takes place in louisiana and they seemed to add t in front of everybodie's name and in front of buddy (i.e t-liz, t-buddy) I was wondering what the meaning of that was. [23:25] it's a stereotype [23:25] not everyone does that [23:25] I'm not familiar with the stereotype. [23:25] what does the t mean? [23:25] it's a contraction from french "petit" [23:26] oh ok, so it's the acadian influence. [23:26] so you might have a father and son named Joe, and you have Joe and T-Joe [23:27] yeah [23:27] rough equivalent of junior. [23:27] informally, yeah [23:27] it's not actually part of their given name [23:27] just a nickname [23:27] ok, thanks, that clears it up, I was all confused. [23:27] np [23:28] that's an example, it's sorta just tacked on to mak ea pet name out of someone's name [23:29] irrespective of junior, etc [23:30] what show, out of curiosity [23:30] pretty much anything on tv about louisiana tends to be unflattering [23:30] you guys kinda get screwed in the media. [23:31] and canadians all say "eh" after everything [23:31] it's a stereotype [23:31] I hear yah;) I feel partially responsible for louisiana though, since it could have been my british ancestors kicking the french out of the maritimes in the 1700's that created the cajuns. [23:32] I'm proud of my heritage; I just don't embrace it as fully as some [23:32] mais, ah don' talk like dis, cher [23:33] man, the accent is the second best part about being cajun, right after the food. [23:33] It sounds like the south of france and some good ole boys from texas had a kid;) [23:34] I miss the food. I moved to New Orleans from Lafayette, and this area is overwhelmingly Creole in cuisine [23:34] How is New Orleans now? Still pretty beat up from Katrina? [23:34] no [23:34] It's pretty rockin', actually [23:35] I mean, it has been 6 years [23:35] Treme paints it in a pretty good light. [23:35] Treme is set right after the storm, too [23:35] season 2 starts about 1.5 years after. [23:36] like I said. [23:36] The food and the music looks really good. Nothing quite like it in north america as far as I have experienced. [23:36] compared to now, it's pretty soon after [23:36] yeah, I really like it here [23:37] worst part was being unemployed and broke for months, unable to do anything or leave town to see my family, who lives between 1.5 and 3 hours away [23:37] lots of unemployment down there? [23:37] just got a job :D [23:37] nice. [23:37] doing something computer related? [23:37] eh, probably comparable to everywhere else [23:38] not a lot of demand for PHP coders here, though [23:38] if you had to choose new orleans or houston you'd be a big voter for new orleans eh? [23:38] ehhh, as far as IT job market, Houston, I'm sure. [23:38] as far as just a place to live, being employed already, I'm pretty fond of this place [23:39] I can drive an hour and a half or so and be back home [23:39] Houston it'd take like 5+ hours [23:45] Are the oysters still ok to eat after the oil fiasco? [23:49] by now they are
