TheBuntuAnyone have any idea why rekonq and arora display Facebook better then firefox ?01:18
LinkmasterTheBuntu: because FF is becoming quite a bloated and heavy web browser. Rekonq is fast and light, I don't use arora though I've heard about it, and since its light it loads lighter pages quickly. FF chugs along on any page, and here on Linux at least, I've noticed that Rekonq is optimium for everything except heavy flash01:21
TheBuntuLinkmaster: ok that makes sence.... i dont care for arora... but is there anything light that is better then rekonq01:23

PhosphenesHi, is there any way I can install kde3 on 11.04?05:19
LinkmasterPhosphenes: I don't think so..I believe KDE3 died out since 9.10. I believe05:20
PhosphenesOk, thanks05:21
LinkmasterPhosphenes: do try and give KDE4 a try though. I personally love it, and its very well supported. The more stable version is 4.5 which is on Lucid I believe, if not its 4.4 on Lucid. 4.6 is the latest stable for Natty, though with project-neon you can get 4.705:24
PhosphenesI do have KDE4 installed, but its quite slow on my netbook even with all the graphical effects disabled so I wanted to try downgrading it05:27
LinkmasterPhosphenes: you using Natty? because there are known power issues with the kernel at the moment. I noticed a slight slowdown as well on my 992mb card, especially with blur05:30
PhosphenesI am using Natty right now, but I originally had Maverick when I first installed. I was hoping that upgrading it would be faster but it's about the same05:30
PhosphenesI'm using the lubuntu desktop right now because it's a lot faster, but it's a bit simpler than I would like.05:31
LinkmasterPersonally, Maverick is faster on my computer. My experience, though I've tweaked Natty to work beautifully. It especially helps if you disable strigi and nepomuk05:32
PhosphenesHow do I disable them? Do I just sudo apt-get remove them?05:34
LinkmasterI believe that will destroy your desktop :P05:34
Phosphenesoh, that wouldn't be good05:34
LinkmasterHmm, I used to remember, hold on...05:34
PhosphenesWhat are they for?05:34
Linkmasterfile indexing05:35
PhosphenesWouldn't I need them then?05:35
LinkmasterIt depends on things; I've personally never disabled them, though a lot of people say when they disable them, they get under 200 megs of RAM usage upon reboot. I wouldn't know though05:36
PhosphenesI see, well I think I can probably survive on this lubuntu desktop for now. I plan on getting a newer netbook sometime this year anyway.05:37
LinkmasterHmm, that sounds good. Perhaps try lucid though, if I'm correct it uses a LOT less power than Maverick and Natty05:37
PhosphenesOk, thanks for the help05:38

flashdeluxehi! i got the problem that if i start a program, e.g. firefox it is startet in the background and i have to right-klick on the minimized window shown on the taskbar to check the box "always in foreground". Does anybody know this issue and can tell me how to get rid of it? I am using kde and  the problem occured after an dist-upgrade.08:10
LINKSWORD2flashdeluxe: Can you explain more?08:14
LINKSWORD2Wait a second....08:14
flashdeluxeLINKSWORD2 What do you want to know :)08:14
LINKSWORD2If you start a program, i.e. Firefox, it always starts in the background?08:14
flashdeluxeyes08:15
LINKSWORD2Ok, first of all, do you have any applets running in the background?08:16
LINKSWORD2Something like a game, etc.08:16
flashdeluxeno nothing, it happens after a reboot when nothing is started, too08:16
LINKSWORD2Hmm....08:17
LINKSWORD2So at this point, you have your system on its default config, or as close to it as possible?08:17
LINKSWORD2valorie, do you know the command for creating a system event log?08:18
flashdeluxeLINKSWORLD2: No, i reinstalled kde but i guess that my config wasn`t replaced08:19
LINKSWORD2How bizarre.08:20
LINKSWORD2Which OS did you install, and what did you upgrade to?08:21
LINKSWORD2No way.... Kori?08:22
flashdeluxeyeah :/ how can i completely reinstall kde? with new configs? I upgraded from maverick to natty08:22
koriboriyeah?08:23
LINKSWORD2I think you might know me, koribori...08:23
LINKSWORD2Maverick is 10.10, correct?08:23
LINKSWORD2!maverick08:23
ubottuUbuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) was the thirteenth release of Ubuntu. Download http://releases.ubuntu.com/10.10/ - Release Info: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/101008:23
LINKSWORD2OK, yeah.08:24
LINKSWORD2flashdeluxe: Do you have anything on your harddrive that you NEED to save?08:24
koriborinoo.... i dont know you >.<08:25
flashdeluxeLINKSWORD2 almost everything? :D08:25
LINKSWORD2.... Ouch. lol08:25
flashdeluxeLINKSWORD2 why did you ask? what do you suggest?08:26
LINKSWORD2I'm known for using USB external harddrives, and a remote backup server.08:26
LINKSWORD2!clonezilla08:27
LINKSWORD2D'oh@08:27
LINKSWORD2flashdeluxe: I would back up your important files often.08:28
valorieto get new configs, just rename/move your .kde file08:28
valorieI believe a sys event log is always kept08:28
LINKSWORD2You have two possibilities.... Your Maverick OS didn't install 100% correctly, or in upgrading to Natty, something goofed.08:29
valorieI don't think you have to create it08:29
flashdeluxeok so could i purge kde, remove .kde and install kde?08:29
LINKSWORD2You could.08:30
LINKSWORD2If you have your documents, etc. saved on a separate harddrive, that can save you a LOT of headache.08:31
flashdeluxean which package/s do i have to purge?08:31
LINKSWORD2I don't keep track of individual packages, really.08:32
flashdeluxeLINKSWORD2: The only thing which could happen is that the gui doesn`t start anymore, right?08:32
LINKSWORD2If I can't fix a problem and it looks drastic, I unplug my backup harddrive and wipe the main out with a complete re-install.08:33
LINKSWORD2Honestly, I'm a guy that's been using Windows since the Dark Ages, and I put Linux on an old machine to experiment with....08:34
wildgooseflashdeluxe, Maybe try another WM first so you can keep one working.08:34
valorieyou don't need to purge KDE!08:34
valoriejust move the .kde file08:34
LINKSWORD2Yeah, I didn't see that part. :/08:34
* LINKSWORD2 bashful blush08:35
valorieit won't do any harm, but that's a lot of removing replacing for nothing08:35
flashdeluxevalorie: ok an if i move it and restart, will a new one be created?08:35
valorieyes08:35
flashdeluxenice08:35
valorieyou'll have to re-do your configs08:35
valoriebut you can always move back parts from the old file08:35
valoriewhen it screws up, you know you don't want it08:36
LINKSWORD2I've decided that I love linux-based tool software. (GParted being a PRIME example.)08:36
valoriewe have Kparted, I think08:36
valoriewhich will be the same but prettier08:36
valorieprobably08:36
LINKSWORD2We still have GParted...08:37
valoriesure08:38
valorieoh, we have partitionmanager08:38
LINKSWORD2And after a successful clone job, I like Clonezilla quite well, also.08:38
LINKSWORD2flashdeluxe: Forget about me. It's 3 AM and I'm not sure if I know what I'm saying....08:39
LINKSWORD2And in regards to that fact... I need to get some sleep....08:42

mudassar Linux neolith1 2.6.18-238.12.1.el5 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux11:21
susundbergdont know if thats the one though ..11:21
mudassarin my case this file is here .... /usr/lib/libg.a11:22
mudassarhmmm ok11:22
mudassarcan I give -L two times like this -L/home/x_mudma/experiments/libs/gnugsl/lib -L/usr/lib11:23
mudassar?11:23
susundbergThats up to your compiler/linker, nothing to do with GNU/linux but with your intel compiler11:24
susundbergbut with gcc, yes11:25
mudassarnow it gives me incompatibility problems11:25
mudassarwhere is paste bin ?11:25
susundbergpastebin.com11:25
susundbergit might be that your compiler is not compatible with gcc-libraries ..11:26
mudassarhttp://pastebin.com/FTa1QKge11:26
mudassarbut it works with other libraries like when I use math functions and other gnu libraries like11:27
mudassarI am using GNUGLS11:27
benonsoftwareI don't know what the problem could be.11:27
mudassarGSL - GNU Scientific Library11:27
mudassarmay be the same file can be existing somewhere else too ... that is meant for 64 bit11:28
susundbergare you sure that file ((usr/libg.a) is proper file? 64b and so-one?11:28
susundbergobjdump to rescue11:28
mudassarbecause /lib and /lib64 folders are separate11:29
susundberg(try objdump -a <my file>.a11:29
mudassarlet me check with /lib64, because libc.so also exists there11:29
mudassarok11:29
mudassardummy.o:     file format elf32-i386  rw-r--r-- 100/500    724 Apr 26 23:14 2011 dummy.o11:30
mudassarit says this11:31
susundbergoh i ment the library file11:31
susundbergyou are trying to link 32b app?11:31
susundbergi guess .. :)11:31
mudassarno11:31
mudassarapp is i guess 64 bit11:31
susundbergSince with 64b you should see "file format elf64-x86-64"11:32
susundberg(or at least i do)11:32
mudassarand another thing I did objdump for another libc.a file ....... it showd me like this11:32
mudassaryes like this11:32
susundbergSo your compiler (intel) is doing 32b app and the library is 64bit -> not working11:33
mudassarhow can see icc is 32bit or 64 bit11:34
susundbergit might be also that the glib is multilib (dont know more than the name on that sorry, cannot help) and the icc cannot handle multilib11:34
bittinupdating my grandparents Kubuntu at the moment 255 updates in apt-get11:34
susundbergwell if that dummy.o was produced with icc it shows that file is 32b11:35
susundbergi guess "-v" option usually also prints stuff11:35
susundbergbut i have other things to do for now, be back later->11:35
mudassarok thank you for your time11:37

DarthFrogsorush20: X is configured via the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.16:01

DarthFrogsorush20: I'm not sure what you're asking.  I have a Radeon 5770 card and use the fglrx drivers.  They're set up in xorg.conf.16:04
sorush20DarthFrog: the xorg.conf is not in that location.16:04

Goliathi am booting kubuntu livecd, i removed the cd tried to launch k3b, got error saying couldnt find k3b, i reinserted the cd and the error persists. what should i do?17:33
genii-aroundGoliath: Probably to make an USB stick from the cd image with Startup Disk Creator, boot to that instead, then run k3b. Otherwise you get the chicken-egg problem of running k3b from the cd while trying to use the cd to burn with.17:39

genii-aroundGoliath: The livecd locks the cd drive17:41
