rabcis best place to get latest lubuntu on http://lubuntu.net/ and download the iso?12:58
elrosthat's the best way13:00
elrosthe fastest way, if you already have ubuntu, is to install lubuntu-desktop13:01
elrosor just lubuntu-core and install whatever apps you like on top of that13:01
rabcthanks elros ive got a P4 2.8Ghz by the way and was finding ubuntu bit slow also tried xubuntu and that was bit slow so hoping for better with lubuntu13:10
rabcive downloaded the latest iso can i install lubuntu-core from that or do i need another iso13:11
=== rabc is now known as draioch
elrosdraioch: you can install lubuntu from a CD or just install lubuntu-desktop package13:18
elrosif you don't want the default apps from lubuntu-desktop, install just lubuntu-core and the apps you want13:18
draiochthanks elros so there is an option on the latest iso when booted for lubuntu core13:21
bioterrorelros, Unit193 had some sort of problems get into X with core :o13:26
bioterrorbut when he installed desktop, everything worked flawlessly13:27
phillw||  Lubuntu 11.04 is available via https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/GetLubuntu (please use the torrent feed).  ||13:34
elrosok13:35
elrosmaybe it needs also xorg and a login manager13:35
elroslubuntu-desktop has lxdm as dependency, lubuntu-core has only xorg13:40
pmatulison standard ubuntu i'm used to lock my screen with Alt-F2 (thinkpad T60).  no effect on lubuntu.  tips?16:07
Unit193bioterror: You could still get the desktop if you go to TTY1 and start X then go to TTY2 and startlubuntu16:34
bioterrorUnit193, sure you could16:56

Neosanouh, somehow whenever I ask any application to open a folder it is opened by firefox, not by file manager, why?20:24
Neosanoand I would be happy if someone helped me to set up dual monitors, because in 11.04 it is no longer working20:32
phillw-virtualNeosano: sorry, I do not have access to a dual monitor. I am puzzled as to why it is not working in 11.0420:37
pmatulisNeosano: i have dual monitors set up but i have a dead zone on my laptop screen20:38
pmatulisNeosano: did you tray arandr?20:38

rabchi whats the easiest way to install lubuntu-core and reformat the hard drive (xubuntu already installed) thx21:19
rabcive download http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/i386/lubuntu-core/download but how do i installed and reformat the hard drive21:22
rabcive also booted with lubuntu-11.04.iso and a command promt came up (dont know what to do with this)21:23
rabccan i reformat the drive using command promt then reboot with a lubuntu-core cd21:24
rabcwhich is best easiest option for noob pls thx21:25
PhosphenesDo you already have ubuntu or some variant of it installed?21:29
PhosphenesYou could just do a sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop and switch to that at the log in screen21:29
=== markus__1 is now known as elros
rabcyea thanks phosphenes xubuntu is already installed but does the sudo command wipe out existing installations i have 2 versions of xubuntu running as dual boot option so maybe have to reformat as well?21:32
PhosphenesIt won't remove anything, it will replace your log in screen but if you don't like it you can just sudo apt-get remove it and go back to xubuntu21:34
bioterrorrabc, http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purelxde21:34
PhosphenesIt installs them side by side so you can have multiple desktops at once. I've currently got Kubuntu and Lubuntu installed and I just switch between them at log in21:34
rabcthx phosphenes its quite an old pc im using P4 2.8 GHz 486 ram would that make any diff21:35
rabcthanks for the link bioterror ill check that out21:35
PhosphenesLubuntu is made for better performance on older PCs so it should work fine21:36
PhosphenesI think the minimum system requirements are 256mb of RAM and a 1ghz processor, or something like that.21:37
rabcaye thx but would i not be better reformatting first ive got 2 versions of xubuntu as dual boot and want rid of them just want lubuntu21:37
PhosphenesGo to the link pasted by Bioterror then and use the command listed under remove xubuntu21:38
PhosphenesThat will completely get rid of it and install lubuntu on top21:38
rabcok thx so reformat not good option thx?21:38
PhosphenesNot unless you really need to for some reason. It's easier to just do it this way21:39
Heinz_L_Maenncherabc, u can either format ur hdd if u just want lubuntu, or keep your installations and just do something like Phosphenes said21:39
Heinz_L_Maennchebut it is faster to do it the second way21:39
rabcyea thanks helen maybe i would like to learn the reformat clean reinstall option21:40
Heinz_L_Maenncheand you can keep your data and some programs...21:40
rabcjust want to reformat had problems with login pass also with xubuntu21:40
rabcif is not too hard21:40
rabcwas hoping that the lubuntu-11.04.iso would have reformat option on reboot like some of the ubuntu iso ive used21:41
Heinz_L_Maennchethen just use the "erase entire disk - and use it for lubuntu" option while installing lubuntu from cd/usb/whatever^^21:41
rabcnever done a reformat with linux in terminal yet so "erase entire disk" in terminal the back to command promt and then "sudo apt-get install lubuntu-core"21:43
rabcis that it ?21:43
rabcor is there a linux equivelent of a boot disk i could use for reformat21:44
Heinz_L_Maennchejust download the lubuntu.iso file, burn it or ut it on usb and bott from it21:45
Heinz_L_Maennche*boot21:45
rabcive got lubuntu-11.04.iso rebooted with that and command promt came up (dont know what to do next with that) and dont think its the core version21:47
rabcive got coreboot 6554 from the linux format DVD maybe that would do it?21:48
rabcthanks folks im gonna have to read up some more on this and i appreciate all the help might be back later21:50
bioterrorhmm22:57
bioterrorwhat's the program used in lubuntu as calendar when you click "clock"?22:57
draiochis there a livecd for lubuntu that lets me reformat the drive and installs lubuntu-core23:35
Heinz_L_Maennchedraioch did u ever try using google and type "lubuntu"23:36
Heinz_L_Maennche?23:36
=== draioch is now known as rabc
rabcyes heinz ive been at this all evening23:36
rabci used sudo apt-get remove ............. to get rid of xubuntu23:38
rabca link to a bootable cd iso with reformat option like the ubuntu live cd is what im looking for thanks23:40
Heinz_L_Maenncherabc,  well why don't u just get the iso-image from lubuntu.net and install it?23:41
rabcyes thanks ive tried  lubuntu-11.04.iso23:41
Heinz_L_Maennchebut?23:41
rabcit took me to the command promt23:41
rabci thought it would be like the live cd with reformat option23:42
rabcmaybe i need to research more as u suggest23:43
Heinz_L_Maennchehm...usually if u boot from the cd u should get somewhat lika a gui23:43
rabcyes thats what i thought all i want to do is any easy way to reformat ext4 and install lubuntu-core23:44
rabci got lubuntu running from the lubuntu-core_0.18_i386.deb23:45
rabcso im gettin somewhere i like it v much and now want to do a clean install23:45
Heinz_L_Maennchehm...the easiest way really is to either install it from the cd (which should be all gui in 11.04) or install lxde on ubuntu23:46
Heinz_L_Maennche(first one is easier=23:47
Heinz_L_Maennche)23:47
rabcthanks maybe i try that boot with lubuntu-11.04.iso again but will i be able to get lubuntu core running from that23:47
rabcwhat about ubuntu-minimal cd maybe that has reformat option then lxde on top of that23:48
Heinz_L_Maennchedo u only want lubuntu-core or do u wnat a comlete lubuntu (wich lxde-desktop)?23:48
rabcthats the same as lubuntu is it?23:48
rabci want it as lean as possible so core would be good23:48
Heinz_L_Maennchei think lubuntu-core is just the core...so no desktop...only terminal23:48
Heinz_L_Maennchethat might be why it takes you to the terminal all the time...23:49
Heinz_L_Maennche^^23:49
bioterrorlubuntu-code comes without lxdm23:50
bioterror*core23:50
rabchmm thanks bioterror23:50
rabcgonna do more reading up as confused as ever but thats why im here to learn23:51
rabcdont want to take up any more of your time thanks23:51
Heinz_L_Maenncherabc, so i think u might just want to install lubuntu23:51
Heinz_L_Maennchefrom the cd23:51
rabcmaybe that would be the easiest23:52
Heinz_L_Maenncheyes23:52
bioterrorwith lubuntu-desktop you wont go wrong ;)23:52
bioterroryou CANT GO23:52
Heinz_L_Maenncheand it really is some kind of minimalistic...23:52
rabcand i can just manually remove apps23:52
rabcand its the same as core23:52
Heinz_L_Maenncheyes...but i think u won'r really need to23:52
rabcok by the way is core just terminal with no gui23:53
Heinz_L_Maenncheat least i can't see why23:53
Heinz_L_Maenncheyes23:53
Heinz_L_Maennchecore is without gui (afaik)23:53
Unit193rabc: Not exactly23:53
rabci thought i was running core now from the lubuntu-core_0.18_i386.deb i just installed23:53
bioterrorcore is without display manager23:53
rabchow can i check if its core now?23:54
bioterrorit does not install a graphical logging manager23:54
