[00:01] i have a x220, it's some intel gpu [00:01] arrandale? [00:01] the codenames confuse me :( [00:02] I doubt you'll have many issues with it [00:02] you're just upgrading the kernel on a natty system or? [00:02] ah no, it's sandy bridge [00:03] yeah, external monitor support is ... flaky [00:05] Ian_Corne: yeah, just looking to try out a newer kernel [00:06] but don't want to run into e.g. filesystem eating bugs [00:12] hmm [00:12] Don't think I've ever had such bugs, altho they can happen ofc, but I'm a good boy and stay with ext* [00:12] :D [00:14] Ian_Corne: yeah, me too [00:14] so... how do i find the oneiric kernel? [00:15] given that i used to be on the launchpad team i should really be able to figure this out for myself :) === Jeruvy is now known as speedy [00:26] kernel ppa [00:27] https://launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter= [00:27] it doesn't seem to be uptodate tho [00:27] http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ [00:33] I have the impression the 2nd is not an actually ppa. [00:40] no, i don't think so either, but the actuall ppa doesn't have the newest kernels.. [00:44] hi [01:58] I installed Ubuntu, Windows and Debian on 2 diferent disks but I can just boot either Windows 7 and Debian or Ubuntu and Windows7 but not all three. [17:27] eek [17:27] empathy-chat consumes 100% CPU [17:28] That would slow it down, right? [17:29] it happens whenever I open a new chat window [17:29] and do nothing else [17:29] So, you have to type hello, at least, to make it work right? [17:30] uhm [17:30] it's *always* at 100% CPU [17:30] and I can't type [17:30] it just hangs [17:31] weechat! it works [17:31] or even xchat [17:31] pidgin works too [17:32] Uhm. [17:32] Installing another software will *not* fix the bug in Empathy. [17:32] i know [17:32] And it just so happens that I quite like Empathy [17:32] just giving you temporary alternatves [17:32] I like empathy too [17:33] but it's a known issue [17:33] maybe I should have said that to begin with :) [17:33] oh [17:33] any ETA on a fix? [17:34] I've temporarily downgraded it to the GTK2 version from natty [17:34] that one works [17:35] I don't know, not even sure there's a bug reported [17:35] hmm did I report one... lets see [17:38] doesn't seem like it [17:38] lucidfox: can you report, i'll confirm [17:40] done: bug #800788 [17:40] Launchpad bug 800788 in empathy (Ubuntu) "[oneiric] empathy-chat eats 100% CPU" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/800788 [17:46] you should report with ubuntu-bug next time, but ok :) [17:46] It gives alot more information the devs might need [18:15] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/800800 [18:15] Ubuntu bug 800800 in unity (Ubuntu) "Unity launcher doesn't allow nautilus new nautilus window when file transfer is only left" [Undecided,New] === sean_____ is now known as SeanB === SeanB is now known as SeanB94 === yofel_ is now known as yofel === SudoKing_ is now known as SudoKing === yofel_ is now known as yofel [21:06] Hi - Does any know if this line in /var/log/messages means that X crashed? Pid: 32462, comm: Xorg Tainted: G C 2.6.35-28-generic #50-Ubuntu FJNB19C/LIFEBOOK S7020 [21:25] I am trying 11.10 in virtualbox and it installed and started up fine. I get the icon bar on the left side, and a bar on the top and the rest of the screen is blue. My problem is that when I hit the applications icon, a text box comes up and then disappears. I cannot type anything into it at all. I can open the Home folder and also switch desktops. I just cannot execute any command as I cannot find the icons or find it via that text box. Ideas? === markus__1 is now known as elros [22:08] Ok, I found out how. [23:45] lightdm displays nothing but a black screen upon load. I'm prepared to post logs. [23:46] I'm using another computer for IRC. [23:47] litropy: /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log may have useful information, as well as the other logs in that directory [23:50] http://pastebin.com/5b4RTWvP [23:50] trism, ^^ [23:51] litropy: is lightdm-greeter-example-gtk installed? [23:51] So, it seems lightdm either doesn't come with a theme, or it's looking in the wrong place. [23:51] litropy: it should install lightdm-greeter-example-gtk by default [23:52] litropy: oh, it only recommends it, that may be the issue [23:52] trism, no it's not, and I'm installing it now. [23:53] rebooting ... [23:53] litropy: shouldn't need a reboot, just sudo service lightdm restart [23:54] trism, Aaaand it works. Sweet, thanks. [23:54] litropy: excellent, you're welcome
