S74rk7hi everyone!  Anyone know where flash player is located... it was working fine yesterday but I got an update for chromium (daily build ppa) and it seems to have killed it :S14:24
S74rk7I downloaded flash from adobe website but where I am meant to place the files... tried using the search tool but hasnt turned anything up :S14:25
BluesKajhi PythonSnake14:25
BluesKajS74rk7, have you tried reinstalling flashplugin-installer ...chromoium daily build is also to blame btw ..if you want stability use the default version14:27
S74rk7yeah...gonna change to stable ppa - thought it to be more secure to use the daily build ppa... security wise n all that...14:29
szallol14:29
S74rk7BluesKaj: I ran sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer --- says its already the latest version...14:29
szaldaily/nightly build = bleeding edge, work in progress..  chances are that it doesn't even work14:30
BluesKajS74rk7, security wise? ..run , sudo apt-get install --reinstall flashplugin-installer14:31
S74rk7szal: we'll have to say it seems to have been fine up until now... but you'd b right... it isnt working... :)14:31
S74rk7BluesKaj: Respect my friend!  Cured it - and a neat trick I've now learnt... reinstall things... thanking you kindly...14:32
BluesKajS74rk7, np :)14:33
S74rk7BluesKaj: Just a question though... that flashplugin ... is that system wide?? as in... does it work for rekonq n everything too... or with the likes of rekonq and firefox because they're installed as plugins I presume they're stored within some config files under /.mozilla n that?14:34
BluesKajyes, it's global14:35
BluesKajflashplugin is a bit of a misnomer14:36
S74rk7BluesKaj: flashplugin is a bit of a misnomer ... meaning?  (and I dont mean the word misnomer haha)14:38
S74rk7its not used globally all the time or something?14:38
S74rk7that what you mean... because firefox can use its own plugin?14:38
BluesKajit'ss more than just a plugin14:39
BluesKajppl think it's just a link but it also contains the player afiak14:39
S74rk7yeah I'd imagined it as platform as such... you know.. like a programing language that can be used for playing video ... audo ... and interactive content...14:40
S74rk7same as you..14:40
S74rk7you mean people just think of it as a media player for youtube?14:41
S74rk7and sites likewise..14:41
tsimpson"plugin" refers to the way a program uses the software, it's just a software library that is loaded on-demand14:41
S74rk7tsimpson: ahh get you now.. thanks for that :)14:42

S74rk7how would I go about restarting kde?  When it seems to glitch out??  Just logout and back in?14:49
S74rk7what I mean by glitching out... you know if you right click and the drop down menu does quiet draw correctly...14:49
S74rk7takes you to move the mouse over it to tidy it up...14:50
S74rk7or I try to restore a window after it being minimized... and it brings the window up but its just a shade... transparent..14:50
BluesKajthere are a few odd glitches with kde 4.6.3.and .4, but they seem different for different users...depends on graphics cards/drivers etc14:54
BluesKajand desktop settings of coursew14:55

koyote(under input devices in pavucontrol)15:57
=== leon is now known as Guest39832
koyotejust not getting anything15:59
BluesKajpulseaudio pavucontrol used to be a requirement for skype audio to work .. not sure if that's stil the case , some have skype working without pulseaudio and pavucontrol installed ...skype works with alsamixer in some cases ...the mics should work on their own with alsamixer16:04
BluesKajkoyote, ^16:04
koyoteskype is insisting my only option ins pulseaudio16:04
koyoteand pavucontrol is registering mic input16:04
BluesKajwell koyote, personally i don't use pulseaudio , alsamixer fits my needs and skype static works well with it , not requiring pulseaudio16:06
koyoteI can possibly do that. have to check16:07
BluesKajpulseaudio is basically redundant on integrated sound cards ...it's meant for fancier pci soundcards that have a lot of options16:07
koyotepulse seems to have been a default installation.16:15
BluesKajkoyote, yes, unfortunately ...there are some canonical politics behind that decision :)16:18
koyotewell, I can just remove packages....... alsa is present, so do I need to add anything before I reset?16:18
BluesKajwell, dunno if your skype version works with alsa , but if not try the static version16:20

PythonSnakeHi fro23:04
areichmanhello. I have a pretty large movie collection (mostly DVD's of TV shows) that I'd like to rip. Right now I'm making iso files of all the discs but I'd like to have another, smaller copy for streaming. I downloaded k9copy to try and to that but it's giving me some issues. Has anybody here tried this before?23:38
PythonSnake!k9copy23:48
ubottuUbuntu's default installation and repositories do not include packages needed to play commercial DVDs for legal reasons. For information on adding them, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs | For information on the legalities involved, see the "DVD" section of https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FreeFormats23:48
PythonSnake!k9copy | areichman23:48
ubottuareichman: please see above23:48
ubuntu__what would be the best/fastest way to transfer a 44 GB file off my computer onto another that is on the same LAN23:48
areichmanPythonSnake: thanks for the tip but that's actually not my problem. It takes my DVD's just fine but when I encode with x264 the audio lags behind by about half a second23:49
areichmanvery annoying when I'm trying to watch23:49
ubuntu__I was thinking scp maybe with some flags?23:49
ubuntu__or smbclient?23:49
PythonSnakeubuntu__: do you use ubuntu or kubuntu ?23:49
areichmanand when I use other encoding methods there's no compression so the files are still huge (1-2GB)23:49
PythonSnakefor ubuntu support, please join #ubuntu23:49
ubuntu__PythonSnake: im in kubuntu right now23:49
ubuntu__but its a pretty general question23:49
areichmanubuntu__: external hard drive? I know you'll have to do it twice but USB should be at least twice as fast as ethernet, even over LAN, I think23:50
ubuntu__actually that's a good point23:50
areichmanand I've had less problems with usb than ethernet when copying large files23:51
ubuntu__looks like i need gparted to wipe this disk  weird23:53
ubuntu__cfdisk won't even let me look at it23:53
PythonSnakeareichman: tried DVD::RIP ?23:54
areichmanPythonSnake: no, I haven't. Looks like no updates for over a year, though23:55
PythonSnakeareichman: HandBrake is a good one23:56
ubuntu__how can I run gparted from a kubuntu liveCD?  I am getting asked for a password and its not letting me authenticate23:56
ubuntu__probably because the default user is not in wheel23:56
areichmanboth gtk applications. I know that I can run them on kubuntu but I'd really like to stay with qt/kde apps23:56
areichmanno idea how to get k9copy to adjust the audio correctly, PythonSnake?23:57
areichmanubuntu__: why do you need to run it from a livecd?23:57
areichmangparted has their own livecd if you need it23:57
ubuntu__sigh23:57
ubuntu__will you tell me how to do it if I explain it to you?23:58
areichmanotherwise, unless you're trying to wipe the main drive you should be able to run it as a local user23:58
areichmanno?23:58
James147ubuntu__: the kubuntu live cd comes with partitionmanager now... the kde vversion of gpatered23:58
areichmanI don't know that I can help you from the livecd23:58
areichmanI usually just use the alternate cd and do an install, then run programs from there23:58
areichmansorry :-(23:58
areichmanif I knew how I would help23:58
ubuntu__James147: I don't see it in the menu23:58
James147^^ but there should be no password for the default user in the livecd and the default user should be able to sudo23:58
James147ubuntu__: what version is the livecd?23:59
ubuntu__well I need to figure out how to export the display when I sudo su23:59
ubuntu__11.whichever is current23:59
iDanielSanhey everybody23:59
ubuntu__James147: I can sudo, but when I sudo su.. hmm maybe sudo gparted will work23:59
areichmanhello iDanielSan23:59
ubuntu__got it23:59
areichmanubuntu__: congratulations :-)23:59
