head_victimherdwick: sure is, give me a second I'll find a link10:59
herdwickcool11:00
head_victimhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/FAQ is what I was thinking off but apparently it's not there11:00
head_victimI'll look elsewhere11:00

apanda_hm, can you reproduce this crash? http://somafm.com/play/digitalis with the default chromium + gnome mplayer settings crashes the whole GUI11:46
apanda_or freezes rather11:46
apanda_i can only move the mouse11:46
apanda_i could kill mplayer from another terminal to fix the freeze11:46
bioterrorfor me it just downloads digitalis.pls :)11:47
bioterrorVLC plays that without a problem11:49
apanda_yep, mplayer not embedded plays the playlist fine as well12:22
hyper_chhi there13:02
hyper_chhow can I make autologin for an user in lubuntu 11.04?13:32
Unit193hyper_ch: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/FAQ it's right in here ;)13:44
hyper_chUnit193: which I did... after fresh installation from alternate 10.10... but after upgrade to 11.04 it didn't work anymore13:45
hyper_chthe graphical isntaller still can't encrypt the installation :(13:45
Unit193hyper_ch: Is the file still as it should be? or has it been replaced?13:46
hyper_chUnit193: I chose to not replace it with maintainer's version from 11.04 after I did those modifications in 10.1013:46
hyper_chanyway, there were other issues and I have a fresh install now anyway... just upgrading to 11.04 before I alter anything13:46
w30I hav lubuntu on a usb flash drive with 4gig for config. Is there an easy way to wipe the config and go back to default?19:21
w30hav/have19:22
w30I know I can reflash the drive on my desktop but how do I do it away from home?19:24
stlsaintw30: do you have another usb drive you can use to load a linux livecd?19:24
w30no, but Wal Mart has bunches :=)19:25
stlsaintw30: if you could get another usb, then you could load another livecd onto it and then wipe your other one19:27
w30yeah, I have the lubuntu11.4.iso I could just do the drive over in my desktop port19:29
w30stlsaint, I have a couple of hp printers configured and it added a ton of downloaded apps from synaptic.19:30
w30stlsaint, the next boot on a different 'puter won't have that printer19:31
w30stlsaint, what if I go to a buddy's house and want to download porn? I might need the drive space.19:33
w30stlsaint, not really, but you get what I mean.19:33
stlsaintw30: please refrain from speaking of porn in our support channel and have you tried using those printers with generic drivers instead of downloading them all?19:34
w30stlsaint, there will always be downloads for each computer you boot into.19:36
stlsaintw30: hrm, im not sure im following what you are saying19:36
w30stlsaint, if not printers then somethng else.  I would rather reserve space for wifi drivers and such that have to be inhouse to even get on the net.19:37
stlsaintw30: so why not remove all the stuff you installed but dont want19:38
w30stlsaint, that's entirely possible but awful time consuming unless all the changes go into a special area, file, folder19:39
stlsaintw30: so your going to go back to fresh install?19:40
w30stlsaint, proly, if I get it too full19:41
w30stlsaint, on the usb flash drive that is19:42
w30stlsaint, I am going to install it on my hand me down net book because XP uses the entire netbook 8.6 gig ssd drive juust for XP19:43
w30Lubuntu is awsome :=)19:43
w30I might eve put it on my Dell Inspiron 2gig dual core19:45
w30eve/even19:45
stlsaintw30: live install?19:45
w30I bet it would scream with a live install19:46
w30scream/screem19:46
w30right now it's got Ubuntu with Compiz and it handles that with ease also19:47
stlsaintyea i run ubuntu with compiz and when i run lubuntu it just blazes19:48
w30stlsaint, cool, eh?19:48
w30stlsaint, I pushed Lubuntu just for kicks and finally got lockup with a bunch of apps open and a full screen flv video19:51
stlsaintw30: i have yet to be able to fully lock lubuntu up19:51
stlsaintno matter how many browser tabs open19:52
w30stlsaint, strictly on usb boot of course and no swap running.19:52
stlsainti even added many more desktops just to open up alot of apps19:52
w30I have not had so much fun since I went away from Slackware in the late 90's19:54
stlsaintw30: ah the great slackware19:55
w30stlsaint, on an AMD K6, and it saddens me to see Ubuntu announcing a drop of support for that cpu. There is better cpu's going in the trash so I can kinda see why.19:57
w30stlsaint, when Windows 8 comes out maybe more will follow, It gives scroungers a new look on life. Ha19:59
w30stlsaint, thanks for answering my request anyhow :=)20:00
stlsaintwindows 8 is suppose to be the best windows yet20:02
w30stlsaint, now that I have discovered Lubuntu I will take anything above an 8088 or whatever that came after20:02
w30stlsaint, for hardware requirements or ?20:02
w30stlsaint, I am not giving my vote to Unity or Gnome3 or OSX11 or whatever that takes an intire screen to choose or launch an application20:05
stlsaintw30: hence i stick with ubuntu 10.0420:06
stlsaintno gnome3 no unity or nothing20:07
stlsaintjust my good ol panels20:07
w30and that stupid top panel that switches as you highlight the window the app is in. I did not like that in a Mac even though they do a better job with it at the moment20:08
stlsainti dont even like mac20:11
w30stlsaint, the thing I wish for is some of the more useful command line programs would get a simple GUI, even ncurses like alsamixer uses20:14
stlsaintw30: actually most do20:15
w30stlsaint, 'cause I forget the switches used20:15
w30stlsaint, and a reminder helps20:15
w30like blkid is hard because I keep thinking UUID something or other20:19
stlsaintw30: aye i see what you mean but most commands just run via terminal, no true need for a gui20:19
stlsaintw30: like blkid does not need a gui20:20
w30stlsaint, I am whining so I apologize20:20
w30stlsaint, I need a cheat sheet for all them necessary but small commands20:21
w30stlsaint, any idea for a good source for one?20:22
w30stlsaint, I have mv and ls mastered heheh20:22
stlsaintw30: clicompanion ;)20:24
w30stlsaint, I would like one with "what ya wanna do?" listed first20:24
Unit193I have a wallpaper with that... And take a look at http://www.webupd8.org/2010/09/cli-companion-makes-it-easier-to-use.html20:24
stlsaintw30: https://launchpad.net/clicompanion20:25
w30Unit193, cool, checking now20:25
Unit193stlsaint: Bothing thinking the same (I just couldn't remember the name)20:25
stlsaintUnit193: you know im part of that team ;)20:25
stlsaintUnit193: i actually submitted clicompanion to alex (webupd8 admin/author) for a article :D20:26
Unit193stlsaint: No I didn't! I've never used it, but just because you work on it, I'm going to install now20:26
stlsaintUnit193: lol, give us a about two weeks to put out a new release20:26
Unit193stlsaint: Sure! I'll wait 'til then20:26
stlsaintwe made ALOT, (truly alot) of changes to it since that release on the lp page20:27
stlsaintUnit193: our own lubuntu packager (jmarsden) also helps out alot with the project20:27
stlsaintUnit193: i am pushing to get it into larger Debian repository :D20:28
Unit193stlsaint: Sweet! Is this something you can contact a MOTU with?20:28
stlsaintwell MOTU is more ubuntu specific, we are looking at larger picture trying to push into debian ;)20:29
Unit193stlsaint > offtopic?20:33
w30ok, guys,gals I got clicompanion now to make a desktop launcher.....20:37
w30I think I will be an amateur salesman for clicompanion; it looks good20:43
w30mmmnnnhh..... what do I use for an Icon?20:52
w30ahh... here is one; a picture of a terminal with warning written on it.21:05
DannyDroidhello all21:55
DannyDroidI seem to be having some trouble using Openbox / GNOME21:56
jmarsdenDannyDroid: You'll need to be a lot more specific if you want someone to try and help you :)  "some trouble" is not very clear...21:59
DannyDroidgood point22:00
DannyDroidI simply, cannot log in when selecting gnome / opebox22:00
DannyDroidi type my user name and password but then get kicked out22:00
jmarsdenDannyDroid: OK.  You are running Lubuntu 11.04 ?  And you have GNOME installed?22:01
DannyDroidI thought it may have something to do with me having my /home on a different partition and the old config files from my old Ubuntu where causing it so fail so I removed them with no effect22:02
DannyDroid11.04 and I haven't installed GNOME,  no.22:02
jmarsdenSo.. why would you expect GNOME/Openbox to work, if GNOME is not installed?22:03
jmarsdenMost Lubuntu users use the default LXDE environment, that is really what is expected...22:03
DannyDroidI assumed that if it was already in the menu that it was already installed22:03
DannyDroidI just wanted to see how gnome compared to LXDE on Lubuntu22:04
DannyDroidYou will have to forgive me, I've only been a Linux user for a year or so :P22:04
jmarsdenTo do that you would need to install GNOME.  It is way too big to be installed in Lubuntu by default.22:04
DannyDroidMakes sense when you say it :P .22:06
jmarsdenOverall, GNOME is bigger, fancier, and slower; LXDE is smaller, faster, and quicker.  Lubuntu is mainly aimed at people with older PCs, or who value the speed over the extras that GNOME offers.22:06
DannyDroidI guess a better option for me would be to just get the hang of LXDE instead of going back to gnome ways22:06
jmarsdenAgreed.22:06
DannyDroidThat's why I'm here. Ubuntu was just running too slow on my poor little Atom and locked up way more then I could bare22:07
DannyDroidLubuntu has been a dream so far22:07
jmarsdenOK, then stick with LXDE and you should do well :)22:07
DannyDroidNow, to find myself a nice, light dock and elementary theme :P22:10
DannyDroidAnd I will be one very happy Lubuntu user - in fact, I going with the 10.10 Lubuntu theme.22:11
LuckySMacki just installed lubuntu desktop after installing ubuntu natty (fresh install). and it seems I now have no sound. all my sound drivers appear to be installed (though it appears as if both alsa and pulseaudio are installed).22:45
LuckySMacki tried running 'ubuntu-bug sound' but it wasnt able to determine anything.22:45
LuckySMacki also have no applications > preferences > sound in my applications22:46
LuckySMackwas hoping someone might be able to help get it fixed22:47
GTRsdkLuckySMack, does just running ubuntu-bug and choosing a sound option work?22:53
jmarsdenLuckySMack: Since this is a fresh install, it might be easiest to simply install Lubuntu, so you only have one sound subsystem?  Do you really need to have both GNOME/Unity and LXDE on the machine?22:57
LuckySMackno it didnt. i managed to get the sound options up from the terminal but nothing worked.23:01
LuckySMacki uninstalled gnome desktop.23:01
LuckySMacki wanted to try lubuntu cause gnome/unity has just been too buggy. and lubuntu looked nice.23:02
LuckySMackdoes lubuntu use alsa? i can just remove all the pulse audio stuff23:02
jmarsdenLuckySMack: Yes.  But rather than try a peculiar "GNOME plus lubuntu-desktop minus gnome-desktop" install, which is going to be relatively rare and untested, just install Lubuntu :)23:03
LuckySMackyea im downloading it now23:03
LuckySMacktheres only 1 dowload for both x86 and x64? just making sure i dont want to grab an x86 version23:04
jmarsdenThere is no official x64 version of Lubuntu 11.04.  There is a separate unofficial amd64 iso.23:05
LuckySMackoh ok.23:06
LuckySMacki dont see a download other than the one on the front page23:07
jmarsdenhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/GetLubuntu23:07
jmarsdenWhat front page??23:07
LuckySMacklubuntus site23:07
LuckySMackhttp://lubuntu.net/23:07
jmarsdenThat is not the only definition of "lubuntus site" :)  Use the ubuntu.com stuff instead.23:08
LuckySMackalright. good to know. thanks23:08
jmarsdenThere should be a link to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/GetLubuntu in the topic of this channel .. maybe a shortened one...23:09
LuckySMackit took me a min to figure out how to get dual monitors working. but why does it seem smoother than using gnome. heh.23:35
