dorganhow do i disable mysql from starting up on lucid?15:22
tiemonsterremove the init.d script15:22
dorganthats it?15:22
tiemonsterI would think so15:22
tiemonsterthat would prevent it from starting the daemon at startup15:23
mhall119yeah, I don't think it's using upstart, so that should do it15:24
raubvogelI could swear mysql was using upstart in lucid since you can do "start mysql"15:25
tiemonsterbe safe, run `apt-get remove mysql` ;-)15:29
mhall119--purge too16:17
raubvogelI thought dorgan wanted to have the mysql server around but only running when needed16:42
dorganyup16:42
dorgani dont want to remove mysql16:42
dorganjust stop it from automatically starting16:42
tiemonsterdid you try removing the init script?16:43
raubvogeldorgan, is there a mysql-something file in /etc/init?16:43
dorganyeah i removed it16:43
tiemonsterand?16:43
raubvogeldorgan, I would not have removed it; you just have to edit it16:44
raubvogelSame goes for the one in /etc/init.d, if there is one there.16:44
raubvogelWell, that one you can actually tell it to stop trying to start it. But stop it when you shutdown/reboot16:44
tiemonsteryep16:45
raubvogelit would be a bit of a drag if you find out you rebooted without stopping the mysql server16:45
tiemonsterhehe16:46
raubvogelSo I would tell those scripts "do not start this, bitch! But if it is running and you are shutting down, stop it."16:46
tiemonsternow there's an idea for a Linux shell...16:46
dorganits ok i removed, the file from /etc/init.d     not  a biggie if i need the file back i can get it from the other db box16:47
