[01:56] anyone around for the meeting? [01:57] \o [01:59] The Agenda is currently empty. though we did mentiok the picnic is coming up last time [02:02] Ok, well I guess we will see if there are amy annoumcements and they ajourn until next time [02:03] I can do an entertaining dance if you'd like. Apart from that, I have nothing either ;( [02:05] ok - the linux picnic is Aug 27 and indont think there is a strict registration deadline. so next meeting is fine [02:05] so... any other annoukcements? [02:06] OkieDokie Meeting Begins - Meeting Ends [02:08] huh? [02:09] eps: you missed the meeting. it was very long and involved a lot of discussions about varied things. [02:09] (one of these phrases is not a lie) [02:09] Grumble, grumble. I blame Carmageddon. [02:15] might have been the only meeting where everyone agreed on everything though [02:20] * pleia2 schedule fail [02:20] sorry, I completely forgot [02:20] that's okay, so did everyone else [02:20] No reports on Ubuntu Developer Week? [02:20] No excitement about the impending release of 10.04.3 LTS? [02:20] I was at about half of it. UDW was as interesting as usual. [02:20] Nobody cares about point releases :P [02:20] No awesome plans for the Linux Picnic? [02:20] dholbach wrote some summaries from UDW on http://ubuntuclassroom.wordpress.com/ [02:22] oh, I never added the picnic page to the project page, oops [02:22] well, it's coming together here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/Projects/Picnix20 [02:22] (adding it to the projects page now) [02:23] I had pizza with sbay.org and Ian last night too but we didn't discuss the Picnic. [02:24] we've done it a couple of times, I don't think there is a whole lot to discuss (at least not until next month) [02:27] * MarkDude would like to announce that Severed Fifth ROCKED hardcore at Bay Area Metal Fest \m/ [02:27] lol [02:27] Not FOSS directly, but still worthy of announcement [02:28] Free and Open Source Screaming [02:28] I tent to concur [02:29] tend too [02:29] sorry announcement period is over. you will have to just proclaim that markdude [02:29] on G+ [02:30] in a hangout [02:30] and it's not FOSS so maybe in -offtopic? j/k [02:30] would join but is pn tablet away from house [02:30] (also explains typos) [02:31] :) [02:31] * MarkDude could not resist :D [02:31] jdeslip: MJ got me an android cookie cutter! [02:31] I shall make android cookies for the linux picnic [02:31] Green dough or green icing? ;-) [02:31] Yay. [02:31] you can cookie cut gingerbread right? [02:32] pleia2: I saw the tweet about the cookie cutter :-) [02:32] yes [02:32] ok, maybe gingerbread android cookies because it's funny [02:32] sugar cookies are easier though [02:32] Gingerbread androids, om noms [02:32] Geek humor and snacks +1 [02:32] eps: I'm thinking green icing :) [02:33] but if I do sugar cookies I could do both... [02:34] +1 [03:08] Has anyone ever had their .bashrc file interpret a colon in a path declaration as a literal colon instead of a delimiter? [03:12] will a \ escape work in that case? [03:12] grantbow: it's escaping it when it shouldn't [03:13] oh, the other way... hmm... [03:20] Good evening [03:29] icarus81, good evening [03:31] How are you. I didn't think anybody was here. [03:31] jbermudes: man bash has the answer. Try single quotes. [03:34] icarus81, why didnt you think anyone was? [03:38] icarus81: IRC has different ways of talking. People aren't always looking at the channel but will read the logs and answer questions if you have them so just ask. [03:39] or the mail list [03:41] grantbow: That'd still make it literal... but I think I figured it out. It was a custom environment variable, and only PATH and a few other special ones know that colon is a separator [03:42] oh ok. I just had a question about my ati Video card. It keeps randomly freezing. I installed both the ATI driver and the restricted ubuntu driver both seem to have the same problem. [03:45] I just looking for advice. In what direction to go next its really anoying to be surfing and all of a sudden have the computer freeze on you. [03:50] icarus81: Do you have any proprietary drivers installed? [03:50] Yes, Now I do. [03:51] But what about when it crashed? [03:52] Oh, I see what you mean... and do you know what model? [03:55] The Card is http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/amd-radeon-hd-6000/hd-6450/pages/amd-radeon-hd-6450-overview.aspx [03:58] I used this page http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Maverick_Installation_Guide (mentioned on ATI site) to install the driver correctly. [04:00] Is Maverick your first version or did it used to work in an earlier one? [04:00] I am pretty sure this is a fresh 10.10 install [04:01] is there anyway I could check? [04:03] But is this the first time using ubuntu with this machine? In other words, perhaps in an earlier version it worked, but then you wiped clean and tried 10.10 [04:06] I just got this card 2 weeks ago. [04:07] The old one (ATI) worked find the fan just came loose and it became noisy and annoying. [04:07] could the crashing be a heat problem? [04:08] It might be but it crashed when I have been browsing online [04:08] like just reading reddit [04:13] I don't see a temp monitor in ATI catalyst. [04:15] How often does it crash? [04:15] And when you say freezing, the screen freezes? Or does the system become unresponsive (caps lock light wont toggle, etc.) [04:16] unresponsive it flashes really quick then the mouse freezes and I loose all control [04:18] it happens randomly. It happend twice yestarday. [04:18] I wonder if it might be fixed in 11.04 [04:19] Is there a reason you're still on 10.10? [05:26] How did the meeting go? === erichammond1 is now known as erichammond === erichammond1 is now known as erichammond [07:45] philipballew: shortly [15:14] so i need some help hooking up a printer to my computer running ubuntu 10.10 === aaditya_ is now known as aaditya [17:30] Man, not a fan of the Mac OS X Terminal..
