Daskreechgigenieks: what's the reasoning behind going all Linux?00:54
gigeniekssec Im typing post in Ubuntu forums :)00:55
Daskreech:)00:57
gigenieksDaskreech: you here?01:13
DaskreechYes01:14
gigenieksReasons:01:16
gigenieks1) I like Linux philosophy about helping each other, everything should be free etc01:16
gigenieks2) Linux community01:17
gigenieks3) That Linux OS is free01:17
Daskreechyay Community!01:17
gigenieks3 main reasons01:17
gigeniekshave more01:17
gigenieks:)01:17
gigenieksNow you answer your question ;)01:18
DaskreechI liked enilghtenment01:18
Daskreechand that' E16 not the old bearded man on top of the mountain01:20
DaskreechThough if you have that I wouldn't be partial to trying some enlightenment :)01:20
DaskreechDays are dark01:20
DaskreechAfter that I hung around cause I could learn far more about how the computer worked from Linux than years of using Windows01:22
Daskreechstevethepirate_: yaaaaar01:22
Daskreechgigenieks: Then I really got roped in by the KDE community01:23
gigenieksyou lost me at "and that' E16 not the old bearded man on top of the mountain" :D01:26
gigenieksI should mentioned that english is not my primary language01:27
alcomhi01:35
alcomI have problem01:35
alcomwith my kubuntu01:35
alcommy problem is, how to update kernel  ?01:35
AlexZiondo you wantto use some kernel outside of the repo ? alcom01:37
Daskreechgigenieks: There is a program in Linux called Enlightenment. It's famous for never being released but it keeps getting new version numbers01:41
Daskreechit's currently at version 17 (called E17) I saw it at E1601:41
DaskreechLoved it01:41
gigenieksWhat does it do?01:43
DaskreechIt's a Window manager01:44
Daskreechgigenieks: Familiar with those?01:44
Daskreechalcom: a normal update will update your kernel to what Canonical provides. Are you looking for somethign specific?01:45
gigenieksyou mean like Dolphin in Kubuntu ? :)01:46
DaskreechNo that's a file manager :)01:46
DaskreechIt helps you to manage and manipulate your files on the hard drive01:47
DaskreechA window manager helps you to manage and manipulate the windows on your desktop01:48
Daskreechso you can move them and resize them etc01:48

gigeniekssomething like compiz?01:51
DaskreechLike compiz :)01:52
DaskreechSo in linux you can swap those in and out. However you want your windows to behave is up to you01:52
Daskreechand Enlightenment (while not finished) is really really pretty01:53
gigenieksCan you give link to some demonstration of it?01:56

juacom99sithlord48: i change it but the changes dosn't save, then i return to check is like nothing happend17:40
djszapiHi! One of our users wanted to install libalure1 from 11.10 on his 11.04 system because the 11.04 ships a bit older version that we need in our KDE software. He told that to us he could not just do it, but I do not know why. Could you please help me with this ? It seems there are no hard-coded dependency versions and all the dependencies are available from 11.0417:40
sithlord48juacom99:  perhaps it sa bug then , i only have one sound device so i've never messed w/ that17:41
juacom99i can't make my headphone's microphon to work on mumble too :S17:41
BluesKajjuacom99, if you have pulseaudio installed . phonon may defaulting to it , no matter what you choose .17:41
sithlord48check to be sure that its volume is up and not muted, mine likes to always start muted17:42
sithlord48djszapi:  you might need a newer version of some other libarys to install it17:42
juacom99in a game i heard the music and audio ok17:42
sithlord48juacom99:  the input has seperate volume sliders..17:42
juacom99in mumble i don't....17:42
djszapisithlord48: nope, it works fine with older version.17:42
juacom99ahh ok ok i'l try17:43
juacom99thanks17:43
sithlord48djszapi:  you manually downloaed the deb file from the oneric repo?17:43
sithlord48BluesKaj:  idk about you but i have removed pulse  on several machines cause its lacking in the "just works" department17:44
djszapisithlord48: that would be the idea since I cannot mention anything that would make an obstacle for that17:44
sithlord48when you try to install it what error do you get?17:45
BluesKajsithlord48,, I always remove pulseaudio ..it's redundant on my setup and restricts my digital out options17:45
sithlord48it should be as simple as dl the deb and click on it to open the deb installer. then provided all dependcies are satisfied (and its not to new for some other program) should jut install17:46
sithlord48BluesKaj:  thats right i remember now. i need to remove ti to make timidy++ work17:46
sithlord48i have a slight issue w/ my Gf's laptop. in that it won't boot (hangs) untill i hit a key any key, and again durring the ksplash i need to hit a button or it hangs , idk what she did to it ..17:50
vamp898Is there any way to disable Pulse Audio in (K)Ubuntu without deleting the whole Desktop Environment. Im asking because as soon as i install my radeon graphic card driver, my sound doesnt work anymore because he switches forcing to HDMI Sound Output17:59
vamp898I can change it and click on apply, but he doesn change it and when i close the window and re-open it there is again HDMI Choosen18:00
vamp898and in case that i dont use Network Streaming, and this is the only real use-case for PulseAudio, i dont need it (i doubt that anyone need it -.-)18:00
vamp898have to go offline to check some new options, brb18:01
BluesKajvamp898, you don't need pulseaudio for hdmi audio afaik , just sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio. It shouldn't remove anything elase except and pulseaudio related libs18:02
BluesKajnice ..real patience there18:03

DoctorPepperhi guys!!!21:37
DoctorPeppercan anyone help me please , i  am planning to switch to kubuntu  from fedora-kde and  i wanna know to go about it , the issue i have about switching is that  my home partition  is encrypted  and use xfs as a file system   and i worried about loosing  my home partition  when switching21:41
KimLarouxDoctorPepper, can't you just back it up and restore the data on the new home after switching? Ubuntu has an encrypted home too, but it would probably be easier to move unencrypted data.21:52

wardzinskiI have dual screens and whenever I log back in they go to Clone, that is ok and I can change it back, but sometimes it makes the screen not visible the primary and clones the secondary22:47
wardzinskithis means I can't open anything (I can see each window I have opened when I ALT-TAB) but they disappear to the primary screen which I can't access22:47
SIR_Tacovideo card? Kubuntu version? KDE version?22:48
wardzinskiI have been getting around it by running yuakake and ' sudo mv .kde ./kdebackup to get back to a new kde setup22:48
