[01:17] grantbow: awesome subject, but i would not be the best speaker on it, at least not alone [02:42] Is http://loco.ubuntu.com/teams/ubuntu-california/events supposed to be empty? [02:44] nobody has anything planned i guess [02:44] No Ubuntu Hours, nothing? [02:45] well we had like 3 this week [02:45] they may not have beeen put there yet for say august [02:45] *been [03:08] yeah, haven't filled in august yet [03:08] I'll add the SF hour and the linux picnic soon === Algo1 is now known as Algo [06:30] has anyone here even installed linux over a network? [19:12] what up california [19:12] anyone come down this way for comic con last weekend? [19:16] hey kdub comican would be great [19:16] * MarkDude is at oscon [20:55] Hey MarkDude, how's OSCON going? [20:55] * aaditya is back in cali after a long trip. [20:55] Wish I could make it to Portland. [20:55] aaditya: go anywhere exciting? :) [20:56] pleia2: yep, Canada! [20:56] well at least it's not hot up there [20:56] Visited my family, enjoyed hot and humid summer. [20:56] oh :) [20:57] It's way hotter than cali, lol. [20:57] east canada? [20:57] I was in philly over the weekend, it was brutal [20:57] Yes, Toronto. [20:57] * pleia2 nods [20:57] Philly ain't far from there. Same weather, approx. [20:58] heat index was 120F when I got off the plane friday afternoon [20:58] it was awesome [20:58] (not really) [20:58] haha yeah, a bit too hot. [20:59] my sister lives up in Maine and it was pretty hot there too, she was complaining all weekend :) [20:59] Toronto was in 90-100 range most of the time. Didn't rain once, though they say it rains there all the time during summers. [20:59] hah [20:59] it's raining in philly now, brought the temps down into the 80s (of course, now that I'm back home) [20:59] haha, same! [21:00] It rained there right before I got there, and right after I left. [21:00] hehe [21:01] The stay was alright. The actual fun was in driving there. [21:01] you can pretend you're going really fast because it's KM! [21:02] haha, yeah. 140kmph on the highway was pretty normal there. [21:02] Felt like driving a sports car. [21:02] I was up in edmonton a couple months ago, first time I'd driven in a rental up there (last time I was in canada I had my own car) [21:02] But I was referring to driving *to* Toronto [21:03] wait, from where? [21:03] from here. [21:03] ! [21:03] that's a long drive :) [21:03] yep, took a while. :P [21:03] * pleia2 likes airplanes [21:03] :) [21:04] lol. I can't wait to drive there again, though I'm never doing this kind of thing alone again. [21:04] the longest road trip I've done was philadelphia to new orleans [21:05] that's a couple hundred miles, right? [21:05] * aaditya googles. [21:05] haha [21:05] it took 24 hours, we drove straight through and were hauling a uhaul trailer [21:05] whoa, ~1220 [21:05] That's a pretty long one! [21:05] yeah, and it was fun [21:06] nice. [21:06] was a guy from my loco in pennsylvania who was moving and wanted a road trip buddy :) [21:06] I was like "I'm up for an adventure!" [21:06] ah, fun [21:06] so we drove down sat-sun, I got to explore the french quarter for a couple hours, then I flew home sunday afternoon [21:07] Where's the french quarter? [21:09] a place worth exploring, nice. [21:09] pleia2: so you've lived in Canada? [21:09] it's the tourist district in new orleans [21:10] nah, I was just driving up from philly [21:10] my sister lives in edmonton though [21:10] er, in alberta, a million miles from edmonton and civilization [21:11] AB is a beautiful place I've heard. [21:12] yeah, the family members who have visited her all tell me she lives in a beautiful, wild place [21:12] So close to nature. Can't get any better. [21:12] 50 miles outside of the nearest town, 7 of which is unpaved [21:12] I don't know, I quite like cities :) [21:12] haha, that's taking it far. I hope it's worth it. [21:13] he husband works up on the oil sands, so they need to live somewhere relatively close to them [21:13] s/he/her [21:14] Ah I see. It sort of makes me envious. [21:14] If I could, I'd put my cottage in the woods somewhere. On the other hand, my parents prefer cities, hence Toronto. [21:16] * pleia2 nods [21:16] my mother lives pretty far in the middle of nowhere in maine, but nothing like my sister [21:16] I am a bit of an odd duck in my immediate family [21:17] I flew my mother down to philly last year before I moved out here, she was a bit overwhelmed from the moment she landed - we were immediately plunged into philly rush hour traffic leaving the airport, ouch. [21:18] I didn't mind a whole lot, but she was all kinds of "this is why I live in the middle of nowhere! I hate traffic!" [21:18] That's no fun, lol. [21:18] But there's pros and cons of each. [21:18] yeah [21:18] I like vacationing in the middle of nowhere :) [21:20] That sounds relaxing, esp. when you're in such a happening city like SF. [21:39] Wow, it's actually <70 in Fremont today. [22:52] hey pleia2, hows your labor day lookin? [22:53] philipballew: unfortunately lookin like I don't actually have money to travel more right now [22:53] understandable, you need to save your money so you can have a really great wedding! [22:54] thats gonna be a big day for you [22:54] * philipballew says statements he has no experience with [22:54] hehe [22:55] but yeah, that's a big part of my budget now [22:55] doesn't look like my master plan to elope will work ;) [22:55] reno is like what 3 hours? [22:55] you could be there this evening! haha [22:56] well, except that MJ is in north carolina right now [22:56] I've never been the "omg wedding!" type, so planning this fills me with an unfortunate amount of dread [22:56] fortunately I have friends to help :) [22:57] just try to make it as geeky and possible and it will work out well [22:57] lol [22:57] I eloped to Vegas. [22:58] it's really for families I think, so it'll be on the traditional side [22:58] and jewish (I'm not jewish or converting, but that's ok) [22:58] ahhhhh... [22:59] Yeah... We don't really have religious ties... Well, my mother but, she was willing to overlook that. [23:00] it seems all weddings are either for the bride or her family. haha. well, in America at least [23:00] At the time, my wife wasn't on speaking terms with her family. [23:01] So, we drove to Vegas and get married. [23:01] MJ is the eldest grandson, which is kinda a big deal, so they all want a wedding [23:01] ahhh. [23:01] my family has weddings (and divorces) all the time, we only meet up for funerals [23:01] Congrats. [23:01] ah, my family :) [23:02] where would we be with out them :) [23:04] not in therapy? :D [23:04] LOL [23:04] Family keeps life interesting. [23:05] hehe [23:05] haha, i have to go to the bay for a family reunion this weekend, all 65 cousins or something like that [23:05] * philipballew needs a faq card for this [23:06] I had a step-cousin hit on me at a family reunion once, who tries to pick up chicks at family reunions? ugh :P [23:06] LOL [23:07] is redneck inappropriate for the channel? haha [23:07] haha [23:08] not nearly as bad as the blind date with a guy who became my step brother (thanks mom) [23:08] i see them in auburn a lot. with there south confederate flags. All in the family right? [23:08] hahah, nooo [23:09] i try to avoid the families myself. seems easier [23:10] I did for much of my 20s, trying to re-establish ties now [23:13] Leeds to more facebook friends
