[00:09] o/ [00:37] average_guy: I'm the closest currently online, wrst is not much worse [00:38] I'm about 50 miles outside knoxville [00:38] but I head towards the smokies in Blount County often enough, folks live there [00:38] it is a nice area, as is kansas [00:38] in their own ways [00:45] Hi cyberanger [00:45] KS was pretty flat. I grew up in NC. My wife had never seen mountains.. [00:46] We love it here [00:46] average_guy: yeah, NC is nice too [00:46] Old Fort & Lake Lure area, outside Asheville [00:46] a year and a half or so there [00:49] cyberanger: Been using linux long? [00:50] average_guy: over half a decade [00:50] 2004 for sure [00:51] it has come a long way in the last few years as far as usability [00:52] not sure if I'd used it before that, but I figure I hadn't too much (my own computer was in 2005, all live disc before that) [00:52] some ways it's slipped up too [00:52] two steps forward, one step back [00:52] I'm not a big fan of unity, for example [00:53] requires too much for little real gain [00:53] oh yes, no doubt. I use Xfce [00:53] It is getting a bit bloated. [00:54] I CAN tho the way hardware is going [00:54] I run on all older machines [00:55] I run lightweight on various machines, openbox or ldxe [00:55] even lighter than xfce (which has gotten fairly bad, xubuntu is worse, on par with ubuntu's gnome setup) [00:56] But harddrives and memory compasity just keep climbing so it is not surprising to see that Ubuntu just keeps adding [00:57] no doubt.. I just installed xubuntu for the first time, this week. I prefer it to the regular Ubuntu [00:58] for the US & UK sure, but I seem to recall a south african being involved who might realize some catchin up is needed in parts of the world [01:00] average_guy: have you tried Lubuntu or LXDE yet [01:00] I have Lxde on one of my machines. [01:01] with mint [01:01] Haven't tried openbox tho [01:02] crunchbang is a good starting point then [01:02] Lubuntu is not a full-fledged variant yet is it? [01:02] I'vederived my own from it [01:02] Yeah, I've been on there site quite a bit contemplating it [01:02] it is, as of 11.10 (not out yet, but it's already approved, testing now) [01:03] Unit193: what's the one you like [01:03] for openbox [01:08] You don't lose much going from Gnome to Xfce but I feel like you lose quite a bit of functionality when you go from Xfce to Lxde [01:22] doesn't seem that way to me [01:22] in fact, it seems like I gain some, due to the freed resources [01:34] yeah, well burning lubuntu iso now [01:35] there's a few glitches in the daily [01:35] due to a change in method, to conform to other offical ubuntu distros [01:40] oh, really? [01:40] yeah, but that might have been fixed in the past 24 hours [01:41] oversized for some unexplained reason (well, I didn't look that hard for one) and live boot was broken, but not the install [01:42] maybe all [01:42] they used a different method before [01:42] there's mutiple ways to make a live disc [01:43] cyberanger: The one I like for Openbox? Hmmm... It's not done yet or it's based on Debian (Depending on what you're talking about) [01:44] have to go for a bit. Good to meet you [01:44] nice to meet you too average_guy [01:44] Unit193: well, both :-) [01:45] but you had one already done, buddist theme [01:45] That's Zenix (Also has awesome) [01:45] that's right [01:46] I can never recall the name [01:46] I also have one I built from mini (really like it) [01:46] average_guy: Zenix is another worthile one [01:46] Unit193: same here [01:46] and debian netinst too [01:53] Ubuntu adds crap that Xubuntu (and the rest) don't want or need and they have to remove all that crud [01:53] That's how they get oversized [02:03] it's that way for all [02:04] compare debian with gnome to ubuntu, kde to kubuntu, xfce to xubuntu, ldxe..... [02:04] To login to Lubuntu (or xubuntu) in lightdm, you have to select "Other" and type your username and pass or it will not work [02:05] It's quite different [02:08] * wrst peeks in [02:09] * cyberanger grabs wrst & pulls him further in [02:09] ha ha [02:10] It would work... [02:20] cyberanger: ncid has a package in GetDeb now if you feel like "running on the edge" :P [02:22] In lubuntu now [02:23] average_guy: Nice, what version? [02:24] current [02:24] just downloaded [02:24] running on liveCD [02:26] Sweet, how do you like it? Have any questions? [02:26] It is pretty nice [02:27] still checking it out [02:29] I liked the panel appelets that came packaged with Xubuntu. Not much in Lubuntu [02:29] I like a hardware monitor [02:29] You can always add what you need/want [12:22] good morning [13:13] morning average_guy how are things going? [13:14] Another beautiful day [13:42] a tad on the hotside average_guy :) but still looks nice atleast [13:54] ridiculous how hot it's been. Don't even wanna go outside.. [14:00] average_guy: worse in Kansas [14:00] or so I hear [14:02] Morning [14:02] oh yeah, I got outta there at the right time. They just had a record-setting winter and now a record-setting summer.. [14:03] Good morning Xpistos [14:04] average_guy: yeah, I wanted the winter [14:05] Not me, I was LOVING how mild the winter was here [14:19] I like me some winter also [14:19] Hey, do any of you know how I make a table use % instead of pixel? [14:20] I tried but it didn't work [14:25] I got it [14:25] dumb nested tags [14:44] average_guy: well, to me, this year was mild [14:45] (I'm a (former?) yankee, one who misses hockey, nearest rink is knoxville ice bears) [14:45] yeah it was nice cyberanger. I like snow, just not FEET of it [14:46] I'd rather have cold then hot [14:47] but anything in extreme sux [14:47] Watching the weather worries me that we have finally screwed up the planet for good [14:52] I'm from Chicago originally. I haven't heard anyone talk about playin hockey in years [15:00] average_guy: everything in moderation, right [15:00] GO BLACKHAWKS [15:03] hey cosmicpizza [15:03] How's France? [15:05] Bonjour cosmicpizza [15:06] Comment la France? [15:06] hi there howdy ? [15:07] france is getting a little on my nerve [15:07] cause sarkozy [15:08] and all its politicians [15:08] but i' m not too bad [15:08] whoa cosmicpizza are you in france? [15:08] * wrst misses lots of stuff [15:08] yes [15:08] permanent? [15:08] yes too [15:09] i' m a french guy [15:09] I was about to say, my french is old, unused for many years, and Quebec, not France [15:09] about 5pm there, guess it's the end of your workday at least [15:09] oh cool cosmicpizza, dare I ask how you found the tennessee loco team? :) [15:09] my parents are going to quebec to their rest days [15:10] politics, bad everywhere [15:10] but they're going to quebec only for 2 weeks [15:10] ah, vacation, right [15:10] Montreal, or elsewhere? [15:10] i found the tenesse loco team like every locos team in united states [15:10] on freenode [15:11] ha ha cosmicpizza glad your here :) [15:11] yeah montreal [15:11] nice city I hear, never been myself [15:12] i' d like to have a road trip in united states when i' ll the fund for doing that [15:12] i' ll have [15:12] cosmicpizza: it's a big country, canada too [15:12] are you from nashville ? [15:13] i' ll do this trip maybe in 3 or 4 months [15:13] maybe more [15:13] it depands of my money [15:15] you'll have much to see, and as average_guy & I were saying yesterday & today, it can be very different 1000km away [15:15] that' s what i like [15:16] I'm from cleveland, tn, 50 km north of chattanooga [15:16] all right [15:16] i' m near paris [15:16] in suburb [15:16] um, that would be 210km from nashville, I think [15:16] south suburb exactly [15:16] ok [15:17] nashville is the home of country music [15:17] my metric is better than my french, at least [15:17] i think [15:18] i' m living at 26 miles of paris [15:18] cosmicpizza: people rockin a lot of country music ova there? [15:19] ova there my home or your home average guy ? [15:19] in France? [15:19] no [15:19] I didn't think so.. [15:20] it' s reserving of some crazy people [15:20] I can't stand it myself [15:20] lol [15:21] i' m using ubuntu since the breezy one [15:21] and it work [15:21] it works [15:21] It linux popular in europe? [15:22] but today i' m using a laptop on windows seven [15:22] linux is very popular for server [15:22] cosmicpizza: I'd like to see Lyon [15:22] in france [15:22] I had a Russian friend tell me it is far more popular in europe [15:23] my brother live in lyon [15:23] that' s a great town [15:25] ubuntu is more and more popular in france [15:25] average_guy: in russia even more than the rest, due to some microsoft-russia issues & russia's lack of IP & Copyright laws [15:25] but I know OpenSUSE is huge in Germany [15:25] you can see it at this adress http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/ [15:26] cosmicpizza: yeah, that's what I've heard, alot of history too [15:26] openbsd is popular for server too in france [15:27] yeah, cyberanger I hear stuff like that but I like to hear first-hand from people. Reading, you'd think Ubuntu is popular in the US, but still very few ppl run it [15:28] cosmicpizza: for servers it's the same here, maybe a slightly bigger number of windows servers, but majority is linux [15:29] average_guy: hence why I kept to what I know, sweden germany & russia [15:29] average_guy: I'm the same way in that [17:51] hello ubuntulo1_ [17:51] ugh [17:51] hello Unit193 [18:02] Howdy wrst! Didn't you do that same thing? [18:03] yesterday... yes :) [19:05] wrst: Day going well? [19:06] yes sir Unit193, you? [19:07] I REALLY need to move rooms... [19:09] I'm just wondering, do you actually use any *ubuntu? :D [19:54] Unit193: yes use ubuntu server, and have my parents on ubuntu 10.10 and a few other folks [19:55] and Unit193 I also have 11.04 on my deskopt, linuxming on my laptop at the moment [19:55] hmm desktop and linux mint [19:58] wrst: Ok, cool. I don't care really one way or another, I just knew you liked Arch (As another Ubuntu person I know does) I don't have the server or mint and I haven't gotten as many people to switch :P [19:58] ha ha Unit193 I wouldn't be such an arch desktop user if unity wasn't so bad [20:00] wrst Arch eh? I've had my eye on that lately. I'm a little chicken tho. How difficult is it to set up? [20:00] Aye, I know someone in person that didn't like it when he upgraded, I told him to look at K/X XD [20:00] average_guy: not bad as long as you read the documentation [20:01] I see [20:01] Unit193: gnome 3 is great kubuntu is substandard in my book and i've just never really gotten into xfce [20:01] now Unit193 i think KDE is good just kubuntu not so much [20:02] Eh, I kinda like it, but it's not for me, however, I do like my Xubuntu this (and next) round. I do know that it's not for everyone [20:04] kubuntu just doesn't or never has worked well for me [20:04] distros with vanilla kde however work nicely for me [21:26] Unit193: that screenshot did prove it [21:26] telnet-irc [21:27] cyberanger: Haha! Not 'til then? [21:30] Unit193: that screenshot proved beyond a reasonable doubt [21:30] (and I try to aim for paranoid reason ;-)) [21:31] Unit193: I didn't pull the screenshot immaditely
