Luke2009ok then, could you guide me through the whole installation ?18:50
bioterror!mini | Luke200918:50
ubot5Luke2009: The Minimal CD image is very small in size, and it downloads most packages from the Internet during installation, allowing you to select only those you want (the installer is like the one on the !Alternate CD). See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD18:50
Luke2009ok, i choosed "Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" Minimal CD" then i burn the iso in another cd right ?18:52
bioterroryes18:55
KM0201Luke2009: this details installing Lubuntu on top of the mini cd19:03
KM0201https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/DocumentationHelp/MinimalInstall19:03
KM0201it's pretty easy (albeit, kinda slow... once the mini OS is installed though, installing lubuntu-desktop doesnt' take long)19:04
Luke2009ok, thank you very much19:11

HoaasHi!21:38
pc_I just did a minimal install and downloaded the lubuntu-desktop ... now I'm trying to install java with no success ... I would really apreciate any help (I've been googling it for a while)21:39
pc_hi21:40
HoaasI installed java less than 5 minutes ago :D21:40
pc_awesome21:40
pc_can you tell me how you did it?21:40
Hoaassudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre21:40
Unit193pc_: Did you try looking at the quide here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/FAQ21:40
Hoaasoh, and I also did sudo apt-get install lubuntu-restricted-extra21:41
HoaasNot sure if both was required, but it worked in Chromium afterwards atleast.21:41
HoaasI can't seem to be able to find settings for the login screen though :/ Installed Lubuntu on my parents' old laptop and they hate having to type in username. They prefer to just click things. Any idea where I can change this?21:43
riddlerKM0201: ahahahah yes!!!!! it work, grub2 is back, ty for that tutorial link thingie.21:55
KM0201riddler: i don't think i gave i tto you, but i'm glad whatever was given to you, worked21:56
riddleroh, it was bioterror, well thnx you both anyways.  i can log in back to my laptop now.21:56
pc_the thing is that in here " https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Java " it says you can actually install the sun implementation ... that's the one I've been struggling with ... jre-6u26 ...22:15
micahgpc_: you need the partner archive for that22:18
bioterrordoes partner have up to date java?22:18
bioterrorI think you should have some sort of ppa22:19
bioterrorUnit193, wakeup!22:19
micahgshould have 6u2622:19
Unit193bioterror: Eh? I'm working on something, whatcha need?22:19
pc_thxs anyway Hoaas ... I guess that I'll settle with that if I can't workaround the one I want ... still I'm looking for the answer and/or hoping someone can help me22:20
bioterrorUnit193, are you using ppa for java?22:20
Unit193bioterror: Partner I think22:20
bioterrormy wife already shut her laptop's lid22:20
Unit193Yep, and 6.2622:21
pc_micahg can you give me some more details, please?22:21
* micahg doesn't know how to enable in lubuntu22:22
bioterrorsomeone point him to the faq, there's java ;)22:22
bioterrormicahg, same way as in any ubuntu22:22
micahgsoftware sources?22:22
bioterrorpc_, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/FAQ section 3.622:23
Unit193bioterror: Already pointed22:23
bioterrorI just installed and configured Android on my WinMo phone ;)22:23
bioterrorbeen playing whole day with those22:24
bioterrorthis one seems to work22:24
micahghttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu#Third-Party%20Software%20Tab if it helps any22:24
pc_I just tried  " https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/FAQ " but when I try the install line it says the packages are not available22:29
pc_the section 3.6 as bioterror pointed22:29
Unit193sudo apt-get update then follow the resy22:30
Unit193rest22:30
pc_hey Hoass, I don't know if it's exactly what your looking for but I just came across this, try section 3.1 in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/FAQ#How to enable automatic logon in LXDM22:33
ahammondbioterror: lxde is working nicely for me. thanks again.23:27
bioterrorgood23:28
bioterroryou're welcome23:28
Hoaaspc_: Ah yes, thanks. That would be my next step :>23:35
HoaasAs to that sun java installation, wouldn't it be just 'sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre'?23:37
pc_wait ... the other thing you can do is system tools>users and groups23:38
HoaasHave no idea how to fix it if it doesn't work.23:38
pc_there you go into password>change and "don't ask for password on login"23:39
HoaasThat box is grayed out :s23:39
pc_hummm ... ok then the thing I said before might work or give you an idea of other things to do or search about23:40
pc_by the way the java thing's is done thxs to all ... the FAQ instructions with the update before install did it23:42
Hoaas:D23:42
phillwpc_: does the FAQ need correcting / updating?23:42
phillwbioterror: would squeezing in a quick sudo apt-get update cause any issues to your knowledge?23:43
Hoaasbtw. icon + first 'get lubuntu' text on lubuntu.net is linking to 'lubuntu.net/get lubuntu'23:45
pc_well ... a bit of clarification I guess ... just that in between the repository enabling line and the install one an update must be performed23:45
phillwpc_: yeah, as it is CLI, it does not auto ask, with GUI it does. I'll go and pop it on (unless you would like to do it and get your name as a wiki editor :D )23:47
phillwHoaas: I'm trying to catch the 'owner' of lubuntu.net. He has given me admin powers, but I know exactly zero about Drupal which is what it runs with. I have a had a quick look round, but am too wary of breaking something.23:49
pc_... well I have no problem doing that in fact "I'd like to" the catch is I don't know how ...23:49
phillwpc_: just PM me, and I'll talk you throug it. Wiki editing is not scary :)23:49
pc_ok23:50
Hoaas:)23:57
