alvinI'm sorry for asking a support question here, but it is about the new KDE 4.7, and I fear not many users will have experience with the situation. Also, i'm looking for an answer within 2 hours because then my swap will be filled and the biggest process will be killed. I'm currently fetching a large volume of mails from a Kolab server. If I look in the various folders in Kontact, the mails are switching around between folders. It12:07
alvin looks like they are being randomly distributed. Some mails are in the folders where I previously put them, but some are in totally different folders. Mails from the 'sent' folder are now in folders where I keep mailinglists. Private mails are mixed with company mails,... The folders are still there, but it's a chaos. The question is now: If this process is interrupted, and I connect to the server later (after a reboot), will the12:07
alvin mails be distributed correctly, or will they actually be moved randomly? I'll be running out of system resources in about 2 or 3 hours. What will happen if akonadi_nepomuk_feeder is killed?12:07
yofelalvin: I have no idea what will happen at the end, please do file a bug upstream about the abnormal memory usage though12:32
* yofel was looking for clucene for tamahawk.12:32
yofelinteresting lib naming...12:33

alvinyofel: I'm thinking about creating a large swapfile, mount it and see it through. Will file a bug report later.12:33
yofeldslogger: can you subscribe kubuntu-bugs to the prison package? Michal Terry was just commenting on that on the prison MIR12:37
yofel*Michael12:37
Quintasanyofel: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kubuntu-bugs/2011-August/thread.html13:13
QuintasanAre you tracking that?13:13
cyphermoxScottK: fyi, in case you didn't see them: I sent two merge requests, for ntrack and kde-runtime; my testing seemed to show no ill effects from the ntrack update14:00
ScottKWhat's the needed change in kde-runtime?14:00
cyphermoxnothing, just a rebuild, as you suggested14:01
cyphermoxin fact, I' m not sure even that is absolutely required14:01
cyphermoxit was just a "status report", so you know how the testing went since I pinged you about it initially14:06
yofelQuintasan: I am subscribed to kubuntu-bugs, yes14:06
Quintasanyofel: You are SUBSCRIBED to that?!14:07
yofelYes I am, the mails get filtered into their own folder though14:08
Quintasan@_@14:09
* Quintasan goes to driving license course14:09
QuintasanI couldn't handle that much mail I guess14:10
yofelwell, it's not like I read every single one of them...14:10
alvinWhat mail client can handle that?14:15
ScottKcyphermox: If the soname in libntrack didn't change, it shouldn't need rebuild.14:24
ScottKI've no objections if you update then.14:25
RiddellDesktop Summit blog http://blogs.kde.org/node/4466 , good looking people at the bottom, shame nobody took a video of our excellent karaoke14:32
shadeslayerRiddell: i think someone took our pics when we were on the stage14:38
ScottKRiddell: With your upstream hat on https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=278857 could really use a look after you get home.14:58
ubottuKDE bug 278857 in general "Printer applet crashed at login" [Crash,Unconfirmed]14:58
ScottKIt's starting to pile up dupes.14:58
RiddellScottK: strangely I can't reproduce it in natty with 4.715:02
ScottKRiddell: When it happened to me it was on oneiric.15:02
* yofel adds some votes15:02
Riddellyeah, which suggests it's something to do with the gcc or the python version in oneiric15:03
Riddellrather than pykde alone, which would be the obvious candidate15:03
ScottKRiddell: Maybe you could grab barry and make him fix it.15:07
Riddellor dbus, there's a bunch of dbus in that backtrace15:10
Riddellat least it's not just ubuntu, that report's from fedora15:10
Riddelltalking about 4.7, is middle click broken on the message indicator applet for others?15:13
ScottKRiddell: rdieter just subscribed to the bug, so it's not just our python/dbus/whatever.15:18
* ScottK notes he should read the backscroll first15:18
ScottKOne of the dupes was mine.  It happened just after upgrade, but not after.15:19
rdieterScottK: I noticed the reporter mentioned fedora, yeah. :(15:20
Riddell"but not before"?15:20
ScottKRiddell: No. Before I had 4.6.15:20
* rdieter heard rumors of odd python quirks after kernel-3.0.0 landed, may be related?15:21
Riddellpykde's kcm integration has had issues before15:22
Riddellthese patches fix up phonon with pulseaudio, means I can use the microphone on my usb headset again15:26
Riddellhttp://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/oneiric/phonon/oneiric/revision/39#15:26
Riddellwill upload to oneiric and natty backports PPA once apachelogger approves15:27
ScottKNice.15:32
shadeslayeralvin: btw akonadi_nepomuk_feeder can be switched off15:38
shadeslayerit only indexes your mail and hogs up resources if you have millions of emails15:38
Riddellrdieter: do you know if Fedora has nepomuk's strigi integration on by default?15:45
yofelRiddell: after the initial re-indexing was done strigi is pretty silent here15:45
Riddellyofel: next question is will you find yourself actually using it?15:47
yofelcome again in a month and I might have an answer...15:48
Riddelldolphin's search interface is quite nice now, but I find myself using KRunner more15:52
* yofel is off to dinner, bye15:57
Daskreechhi Riddell :)15:59
rdieterRiddell: strigi is enabled currently yes, but only on a (small) subset of folders under $HOME15:59
Riddellhi Roger16:00
ubuntu4shaneI'm using my laptop lately quite a bit, and when I type my thumb accidentally bumps the touchpad, and I end up with a mess.  Is there a way to disable the touchpad while the keyboard is being used?  I know in Gnome it was automagic and I didn't have that problem.  I found a few links, but all outdated.  Any thoughts ideas?16:00
QuintasanRiddell: >everyoen16:00
QuintasanThere is a typo in your blog post :)16:00
ubuntu4shaneI went to System Settings -> Input devices, and Touch Pad, and nothing there indicated a way to fix that.16:00
RiddellUDS sponsorship time! https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kubuntu-devel/2011-August/005367.html16:00
* Riddell nudges some friendly upsteams like fregl or steveire to come to UDS too16:01
RiddellQuintasan: ta, fixed16:02
* Quintasan reads further16:02
Quintasanyofel: You look totally different than I thought :D16:03
Riddellubuntu4shane: hmm, I'm sure that's come up before but i don't remember the answer.  #kubuntu is the right place for user questions so maybe they know16:03
ubuntu4shaneRiddell: that was my first stop, and Daskreech said the same thing. :)  Seems everyone has heard of it, but no real answer. :)16:04
DaskreechRiddell: Would it make sense to put a bug up against KDE?16:05
Daskreechor is that a synaptics issue?16:05
QuintasanDaskreech: See the link on #kubuntu, it's upstream issue tracker16:06
QuintasanShould be good place to submit the bug16:06
Riddellit's synaptiks, dunno where they keep bugs16:06
Quintasanhttps://github.com/lunaryorn/synaptiks/issues16:07
QuintasanRiddell: Oh, not sure who do I thank but some time ago maxb told us that kde imports are fully working :)16:08
* Quintasan notes that some time ago was really some time ago but he forgot about that16:09
RiddellQuintasan: imports from upstream or imports into UDD?16:09
QuintasanRiddell: imports from upstream, more specifically, there was a bug in bzr16:09
Riddella good candidate for thanks is probably jelmer who I think got the bzr upgrade in launchpad done16:10
QuintasanI see16:11
QuintasanI gotta hangout more in #bzr16:11

RiddellQuintasan: why not?16:46
QuintasanRiddell: IIRC it depends on HTK which is not entirely archive-friendly16:46
Riddellhmm, fooey16:46
QuintasanLet me confirm it16:47
QuintasanMost likely no UDS for me as well16:48

jussiQuintasan: whaaa...17:53
ScottKmfraz74: Depends on if we can get 2.0 packaged.  It's provided in a not very distro friendly way.18:13

_Groo_btw i have made packages for digikam 2.0 final18:40
_Groo_needed to rebuild for 4.7 anyway18:40
ScottK_Groo_: Does it use system libraries and not the embedded kipi-plugins and kdegraphics code copies?18:41
mfraz74There are some on Philip Johnsson's PPA18:41
_Groo_mfraz74: i adapted from there18:41
_Groo_ScottK: it uses mostly system libs... the only ones he doesnt are the ones not available in natty18:42
_Groo_3 or 4 the most18:42
ScottK_Groo_: Are any of them available in Oneiric?18:42
ScottKIf you've done that, it might be suitable.18:42
_Groo_ScottK: didnt check, i did it for natty18:42
ScottKIt'd be nice to get it in.18:42
_Groo_ScottK: i can work on them this weekend18:43
ScottKyofel or Quintasan: Who was working on digikam?18:43
_Groo_ScottK: ill upload them to my ppa, you guys check on it18:43
_Groo_ScottK: and let me know18:43
ScottKSomeone ought to work with _Groo_ and get this done.18:43

ScottKRight, dh_python2 takes care of that.19:52
* ScottK looks19:52
ScottKdebfx: plasma/generic/scriptengines/python/plasma_importer.py is installed as a public module, so in theory that should be fixed, but dh_python2 will DTRT, so it's not urgent.19:55
