=== yofel_ is now known as yofel [11:58] Hi [11:59] I'm just new to the qa-list and this channel. want to give something back to the community why i'm initially going to test some isos [12:03] hi joru [12:04] hi brendand [12:05] so i'm visiting the testing iso procedure and the qa site atm [12:05] and reading up on them [12:06] i've got a few computers and some spare hardware [12:07] so if i understand correctly, something that has not been tested by anyone yet is for example listed in the "untested" section on the iso testing tracker? [12:07] e.g http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/build/all/untested [12:08] or is there a section which i can read on what to prioritise testing on? [12:17] well alot of my questions are answered as i read. i'll read up on some more. cheers. [13:03] joru: That's correct -- the 'untested' section is a good way of quickly finding things that need tested [13:03] joru: Though at the moment we are not testing any images :) [13:03] Alpha 3 was released last week [13:04] We'll be testing more at the end of the month, before the release of Beta 1 on 1 September, so we will *definitely* want help then :) [13:25] fader: ok good to know you are not testing anything [13:26] fader: is that dicided during the weekly irc sessions? [13:27] joru: It's discussed at the meetings as needed, but there is a schedule here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OneiricReleaseSchedule [13:27] joru: You can generally assume that in the week leading up to a release there will be ISO testing going on [13:28] And this is the right channel to check in with questions or to see if testing has started [13:28] ah good schedule [13:28] didnt see it before [13:29] at least i now know i dont need to test in vain [13:30] :) [13:30] joru: There's also other testing always going on, not just ISO testing [13:30] If you're bored that is :) [13:30] well the knowledge acquired from reading and setup of my local environment is done [13:30] well i report a few bugs here and there when they happen [13:30] do some translations etc [13:30] Awesome! [13:30] but i would like to become more involved in the future [13:31] since i'm aming to take a different turn with my career [13:31] Fantastic... great to have you on board! [13:31] thanx [13:31] joru: Aiming to do more OSS work? [13:31] In your career I mean [13:31] buts most fantastic to have such a great pack of software at hand [13:32] fader: yes, more software development, and especially in the open community [13:32] amung other things [13:32] joru: Excellent! More hackers are always needed! [13:33] though the learning curve seems a bit steep at times [13:33] but the challenge is part of the goal [13:33] brb [13:35] fader: well i've always liked programming, but didnt go for that as formal education [13:36] joru: Digging in and just trying it is a great way to learn. And the Ubuntu community in particular is very friendly and helpful in my experience [13:37] yes i've got taht experience too [13:37] (Full disclosure is that I get paid to work on it, but I found that to be the case even before that was the case :) ) [13:37] Er, wait, terrible sentence [13:37] Argh, hopefully you know what I meant [13:37] yea :) [13:38] well part of my plan is to be paid in one way or another to contribute to oss in the future [13:39] prob sometimes could be lack of formal cs education [13:39] but what counts in the long run is what you actually do [13:39] Eh, it doesn't seem to be a big problem if you can point to some things that you've done [13:39] Exactly! [13:39] thus i'm going to activate myself more [13:39] then things get sorted out [13:41] so do you have any suggeestions of where one could start? [13:41] Cool... glad to have you on board! [13:41] preparing packaging? [13:41] besides bug reporting that is [13:42] guess i'll ask that q in beginners-dev instead [13:42] not to flood this channel with nonsence =) [13:45] glad to be on board. [13:46] Yeah, that might be a better channel... I can't help much with that [13:46] But if you come back during ISO testing this channel will be more active :) [13:47] extremely active infact [13:49] Heh [13:49] davmor2: Only because everyone is hanging out and having a good time... there are never any bugs. Ever. ;) [13:51] fader: Never ever ever, there might be the odd destruction of an iso maybe causing a respin from time to time but never any bugs :D [13:51] davmor2: Yeah, respins are for aesthetic reasons. Yeah, that's the ticket. To make their MD5sums look nicer. [13:52] fader: and when that nasty build system breaks it, but that's only so you feel like you under pressure to hit the target right :) [14:07] fader: yes, i will monitor during ISO testing [14:08] joru: Great! We'll look forward to having you around! :) === micahg_ is now known as micahg === yofel_ is now known as yofel
