Laibschping apw03:59
jk-Laibsch: he's probably asleep03:59
Laibschjk-: thanks.  I figured as much.  He is in an American timezone, isn't he?  That would mean we are at complete opposite timezones.  I thought I'd ping him and stick around.04:01
jk-Laibsch: nope, GMT.04:01
jk-so your evening should be fine.04:01
LaibschOh, that's good.  Then I hope to have a chance to catch him later in the evening.04:02
Laibschyes, thank you.04:02
jk-anything we can help you with though?04:02
LaibschWe had talked about a particular issue I had with an encrypted LVM and incorrect initramfs being created by update-initramfs. After several months I now figured out what the issue was.  I believe something is buggy, but wanted to ask him if he agrees.04:03
jk-right, ok.04:03
LaibschLet me dig up the answer ticket04:03
Laibschhttps://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+question/154973 The answer to that was that apparently during the upgrade (or manually, don't remember) fstab was changed to mount root via UUID. That seems to fail, addressing via /dev/mapper/$ID works now.04:05
LaibschI want to see if that answer ticket should be converted to a bug ticket against the kernel04:06
Laibschor update-initramfs04:06
Laibschjk-: what do you think?04:10
jk-well, the kernel doesn't deal with UUIDs, so doesn't sound like a kernel issue.04:10
jk-I'm curious why referencing by UUID fails though04:10
Laibschyes, you are right, not a kernel issue.04:11
Laibschyes, me too, I am curious about that.  Figuring out the scripts was difficult enough as it is.  I was more or less walking through the scripts, guessing what happened and playing around.  Educated guessing, more or less. So, I can't really say what's going on.04:13
LaibschSome of the if-statement resolved differently in the UUID case, I can say that much.  I inserted a couple of echo statements in the scripts for debug purposes and to see what code actually was and wasn't called.04:14

Sarvattogasawara: thanks a ton for doing ubuntu-p.git this early, made drm-intel-fixes based kernels a million times easier to build :P17:38
apwSarvatt, we do normally have it about now, -rc2 of the release after the one we are shoving in17:39
apwjust you don't always know about it :)17:39
ogasawaraSarvatt: heh, np.  I'm still fixing up build failures at the moment.17:39

hggdhsconklin: bug 823912 is ready to keep on18:59
ubot2Launchpad bug 823912 in linux "linux: 2.6.24-29.93 -proposed tracker" [Medium,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/82391218:59
sconklinhggdh: thanks!19:02
tgardnersconklin, have you had any howling about a regression in the recently -proposed 2.6.32-34.73 kernel? I'm trying to bisect it, but I've got one of these damn nVidia cards which is giving me a bit a DKMS trouble. I'm suspecting one of the mm patches since the reproducer uses chromium, and I've straced the lockup to an mmap system call.19:22
=== med_out is now known as medberry
sconklintgardner: let me check my list of regressions I'm tracking. I don't catch them all,but I'll look at the ones I have19:24
sconklintgardner: no, I see a 'cordless mouse stops working on return from suspend' and 'lost ethernet networking', no graphics19:26
tgardnersconklin, ok, I'll keep pursuing this until I figure it out.19:26
sconklintgardner: any regressions that I am aware of in a release get tagged regression-release, so you can always try searching for that19:28
tgardnersconklin, that presumes some skill with LP (and that it won't timeout)19:28
sconklintha advanced search page allows searching for tags, but I can't help with the timeout19:33
* jjohansen -> lunch19:59
tgardnersconklin, I was kidding about the skill :) the timeouts, not so much.19:59
loolcjwatson: linaro-vexpress > ack; we've had a discussion 10 days ago about revamping the configs and having a sane way to manage them again, so at least I see a path forward on avoiding this kind of issues in the future21:17
