[01:40] meeting in 20 minutes? [01:50] yep [01:51] well, 10 :) [01:51] Yay. Made it. Again. [01:52] I wonder if I can get onto this meeting from my Android Motorola Droid 3 phone [01:52] Do you guys use #ubuntu-meeting or this channel? [01:52] this channel [01:52] I need to leave my office soon [01:52] * bkerensa will lurk so he can learn some loco meeting best practices [01:54] einfeldt - there a bunch of irc apps for android [01:55] but they take a few minutes tonset up [01:55] k, thx jdeslip [01:55] see u [01:55] I will try [01:56] einfeldt I use AndChat [01:58] Are we talking about the specifics of the cookies being brought to the Linux Picnic yet? That is my agenda item [01:58] of utmost importance [01:58] heather is bringing ubuntu cookies, I'm bringing android sugar cookies with green frosting ;) [02:00] So, who is present for the meeting? [02:00] o/ [02:00] (please raise hand) [02:01] o/ [02:01] \o [02:01] \o/ [02:02] Okie Dokie lets get started [02:02] ----------------------- Meeting Begins --------------------- [02:02] made it [02:02] As always lets start with some announcements does anyone have any? [02:03] linuxpicnic.org is coming up soon Aug 27th to be covered in the meting today. [02:03] The globabl jam date is September 2-4 [02:04] Which I believe is a long weekedn :/ [02:04] yeah, labor day [02:04] I think phil and DarkwingDuck are planning something down in SD [02:04] I will be probably be down in Florida. But if anyone is considering hosting an event please let the email list know [02:05] Software Fredom Day.org is coming up [02:05] and add to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/Projects/NattyGlobalJam [02:05] they don't have the date for sfd on their front page :-( [02:05] Ok, any more announcements? [02:06] Cookie [02:06] Ok lets move on to the first agenda item. [02:06] The Linux Picnic Planning [02:06] www.solanoavenueassn.org/strol.htm is coming up Sept 11th [02:07] Picnic! [02:07] grantbow: yes, thanks for pointing that out [02:07] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/Projects/Picnix20 [02:07] I'll add that to agenda for next meeting. Hopefully can get some ubuntu volunteers. [02:07] Ok, about the picnic [02:07] so picnix is an ubuntu thingy or linux? [02:07] Linux. [02:07] we're the ubuntu table at the linux picnic [02:07] pleia2 set up a page for our organization here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/Projects/Picnix20 [02:08] is there a picnix in SoCal? [02:08] I guess we have a booth (a couple tables) [02:08] Hi all. I'm just dropping by, barely got back to Cali and should have an answer for everything by tomorrow. That said, I'm present. [02:08] aaditya: any idea when registration will open? and when we'll know the placement of the tables? [02:08] It would be good to have some CDs to give away. Can anyone burn ~50? [02:08] oh ok, thanks :) [02:09] :) [02:09] we have pressed ones still, so we can use at least 25 for the picnic (and the rest for solano) [02:09] For everyone in the Bay Area, please add your name to the wiki if you are planning to attend [02:09] pleia2: ok great [02:10] i [02:10] I have a street fair style tent I could bring if MarkDude is not bringing his [02:11] MarkDude? [02:11] Um not sure about any of it yet [02:11] * MarkDude knows nothing [02:12] OK, well, we can figure out the tent closer to the event. [02:12] Anything else we need? [02:12] I'll flesh out the list of what we need this week, probably need some ties to put the banner up on the tent [02:12] MarkDude: let me know if you are going to make it and bring the tent by email etc.. [02:13] we could use some help at the registration desk at the beginning of the picnic. [02:13] and I'll send the list to the mailing list so we make sure we have everything (some cheap orange tablecloths would be nice) [02:13] Ok, well it may be used by Fedora and stuff [02:13] pleia2: ok, sounds good [02:14] sounds good [02:14] Any other picnix related stuff to chat about? [02:14] is there one in so cal? [02:14] Not this year, not that I'm aware of. [02:15] I think we're good, woo picnic in 2 weeks :) [02:15] how would be go about getting one going? contacting various distro trams? [02:15] teams? [02:15] iheartubuntu2: create a day in so cal to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Linux! [02:16] i'll have to think about this! could be fun [02:16] What's up with the picnic RSVP? [02:16] :) [02:16] jyo: aaditya said he'd have info tomorrow [02:16] Cool. [02:16] so hopefully soon :) [02:16] yeah, says "Expect the RSVP database open in late Spring or early Summer." now [02:17] Didn't say which year [02:17] OK, moving on to topic number 2 - Game night. [02:17] ok - [02:18] An Ubuntu game night can be a great way to spend time together as an entire California team. [02:18] This is something that could expand nationwide or even worldwide eventuall [02:18] Coming up with the right game or rotating games will be the challenge. [02:18] Ive done a little research on games. [02:18] iheartubuntu: you mean like online games right? [02:18] fun idea - open source lan party kind of thing? [02:18] First person shooters seem to be the most common multi player games [02:19] online games where we can all join in [02:19] To be honest there are a lot of nice games for Ubuntu [02:19] i dont think minecraft is free, but it might be an idea [02:19] that I have been meaning to try but had no reason [02:19] Nexuiz etc.. [02:19] The site is slightly out of date. Expect updates tomorrow. [02:19] frozen bubble handles multiplayer, but i dont know how many [02:20] Tremulous [02:20] freeciv, pokerth, and even london law all do multiplayer to some extent [02:20] iheartubuntu2: Why don't you try to organize something, send invitations out to the mailing list (and wherever else appropriate) and see who shows up for the first night [02:20] there may be chrome games like WTG Golf that can handle all of us at once [02:21] maybe create https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/Projects/GameNights to list some of the games [02:21] right now i was hoping for game ideas [02:21] running under wine is cheating I guess :-) [02:21] the Linux Action Show just had a show about Linux games :) [02:22] regnum online (now called realms online in USA) is another game than can handle the entire СA team [02:22] There were a couple civilization type games shown off (can't remember names though) [02:22] http://www.playdeb.net/ has a lot of nice games listed [02:22] actually running games under wine for this event might help increase participation and provide teachable moments for Ubuntu [02:23] would anyone have any multiplayer game ideas? [02:23] good idea grantbow [02:23] should this be a california thing or expand bigger? [02:23] I don't have any specific ones except Nexuiz, OpenArena, FreeCiv and Wesnoth [02:24] maybe start with california? [02:24] see how it goes [02:24] pleia2 thats what i was thinking [02:24] I would do a strong showing locally before expanding to prove that it's worth it [02:24] ok [02:24] The new supertux kart looks pretty flashy [02:25] which direction should i take this? focus on more questions? more game choices? [02:25] some games can handle 4 players, some can handle 500 [02:25] iheartubuntu2: I'd just take charge of it if I were you. Make whatever choices you would like and see how it goes. It is easy to get feedback after a first trial [02:26] so set it up and run it [02:26] In my opinion, the hard part is just getting started :) [02:26] +1 [02:26] i was also thinking a game night right after our team meetings here since we have a number of people already together [02:27] not a bad idea [02:27] yeah [02:27] ok, thats it for me unless someone has something to add [02:27] Super Nerd Night SF has a great live way they do this [02:27] i'll move this forward [02:27] how so markdude [02:27] iheartubuntu2: great! thanks for this [02:28] they have all sorts of options for people [02:29] Browsing playdeb led me to this RISK type game: http://www.playdeb.net/software/TripleA - I like me some RISK [02:29] MarkDude: that's easy to do for an in-person event with a lot of people, this proposal is virtual so we'd need some coordination and possibly servers running to play games, which means we can't offer a ton of options (plus I don't think we'll have a ton of people :)) [02:30] video cards can limit the amount of players too [02:31] OK - does anyone have anything to add before we end the meeting? [02:32] 5 [02:33] 4 [02:33] 3 [02:33] 2 [02:33] 1 [02:33] totals 15 [02:33] :) [02:33] -------------------- Meeting Ends ----------------------- [02:33] Thanks for hosting jdeslip [02:33] eps: cute [02:34] It's all in the timing === ChanServ changed the topic of #ubuntu-us-ca to: Welcome to the Ubuntu California Local Community (LoCo) Team! | Webpage: http://ubuntu-california.org (has links to mailing list, forum, and more!) | Next Meeting: Sunday, August 14th, 7:00pm PDT | This channel is publicly logged at irclogs.ubuntu.com | We have an unlogged channel at #ubuntu-us-ca-offtopic === ChanServ changed the topic of #ubuntu-us-ca to: Welcome to the Ubuntu California Local Community (LoCo) Team! | Webpage: http://ubuntu-california.org (has links to mailing list, forum, and more!) | Next Meeting: Sunday, August 28th, 7:00pm PDT | This channel is publicly logged at irclogs.ubuntu.com | We have an unlogged channel at #ubuntu-us-ca-offtopic [02:36] That reapproval meeting is Tuesday, right? In the mean time see http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2011/08/15/%23ubuntu-us-ca.html [02:40] grantbow: can you fill out the doodle poll I sent out? [02:44] =o [02:46] not at the moment [02:47] maybe some day, but it's not a huge deal [02:53] MarkDude: oh, we set for tomorrow evening? [03:10] oh, I see [03:22] Dangerous G just left [03:22] Had to go check in with his posse [03:22] * MarkDude wants to edit him in Admiral outfit on the boat [03:22] and PLAY the Im on a boat song [03:22] G had not seen it before [03:22] I wish I hadn't [03:23] one friend always sends it to me when I tweet about being on a boat, I don't know why he's a friend [03:23] :P [03:25] Well- you know funny people [03:25] They corrupt you [03:25] hehe [03:25] G had not seen the Timberlake [03:25] D in a box video either [03:25] :D [03:26] Some of Nixie's friends were floating down American river- and made video- while youtubing the boat video [03:32] Oh that reminds me- now that you are engaged- I cant tell people your nick is because playa was already taken [03:33] and make no mention of Star Wars [03:39] would anyone wanna recommend a good router? [03:40] WRT54GL [03:40] version 1.1 [03:40] those are g, cisco is good. [03:40] i own one of those haha rww bought for 3 dollars at a thrift store [03:40] there you go then :P [03:40] flashed with ddwrt [03:41] i think i need to get an N. but i've always used cisco and was unsure if others have had more success [03:42] * rww shrugs, uses ethernet if he wants speeds faster than G [03:42] * philipballew is to lazy to wire his house [03:42] :) [05:07] pleia2, do you know who runs ubuntuforms.com I need to talk to him or her? [05:08] * philipballew has a great awesome form idea [05:10] ^ anyone else is welcome to answer too :) [16:12] pleia2 thanks for making the games night page! [16:13] sure :) === seidos is now known as maintenance-man [20:24] hey pleia2 do you know who is in charge of ubuntuforms.com? [20:26] philipballew: do you mean forms or forums? [20:26] http://ubuntuforums.org/ [20:26] the forums are run by the forums council [20:27] stupid public education! [20:27] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ForumCouncil [20:27] #ubuntuforums also exists, but I think it might be a social channel [20:27] yeah pleia2 I was just made head of the ubuntu youth forms and wanted to talk to someone there to see if we can heve the form website we use moved to the main site. [20:28] s/forms/forums/g :P [20:28] but yeah, forums council should be able to do that [20:29] forum council? fora council? iono. [20:59] cool, i'm dumb too. i'll blame public education. [21:00] it definitely wasn't laziness. definitely not.
