RawChidHello :)12:09
sagacihi12:11
RawChidI'm looking at the strings of oneconf. And see a lot of sentences don't begin with a capital. Some of them are shown in --help, and some of them are just "print" messages.   I think about translating them all Capitalized. What do you think?12:18
Jessica_Lilydpm I've added a locale to the na'vi bug12:20
Jessica_Lilywell a link to glibc bug which i filed with it attacked12:20
Jessica_Lily*attached12:20
dpmRawChid, it should be ok, although you should then watch out when the developer corrects them all to be capitalized in the original strings, then all your translations will be discarded (well, just marked as fuzzy)12:38
dpmyou might want to give the dev a heads up12:38
dpmI think it's didrocks12:38
dpmyou can find him on #ubuntu-devel12:39
dpmor #ubuntu-desktop12:39
dpmJessica_Lily, wow, good work!12:39
Jessica_Lilythanks, i used what i could from the klingon & GB locales12:39
Jessica_Lilystuff like currancy? i just borrowed from GB because i had no idea what to put for obvious reasons :P12:40
dpm:)12:42
RawChidYeah, that's why I was asking.  And I can contribute by "improving" the strings.12:42
RawChidThanks dpm12:42
dpmso the na'vi are going to use pounds, then? ;)12:44
Jessica_Lilysure! :P12:44
Jessica_Lilydpm I assume you can change that when you apply a locale you can go into the config and choose like currency if you happen to use a different one12:46
Jessica_Lilyso like US people who use this can go into their settings or german or w/e12:46
dpmyeah, exactly12:46
Jessica_Lilyawesome!12:46
dpmJessica_Lily, can you remind me about the bug number?12:46
Jessica_Lilyurrrrm two seconds (not sure myself)12:47
dpmno rush :)12:47
Jessica_Lilyits cool, with the power of bash https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-translations/+question/16631912:48
Jessica_Lily(grepped all my logs in one command xD)12:48
Jessica_Lily:P12:48
Jessica_Lily<3  bash12:48
dpmJessica_Lily, you can also file a bug in the langpack-locales package in Ubuntu. It often takes a long time for a locale to be included in glibc, so if there is good support behind it and the locale definition has all the right format and content, we sometimes include it as a patch in Ubuntu, so that people can start working on translations in the meantime until it gets accepted.12:52
dpmHere's how:12:52
dpmhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/langpack-locales/+filebug12:52
dpmif you do that, remember to add a bug watcher to the upstream bug12:52
dpmotherwise the langpack-locales maintainers will ask you to file a bug upstream first :)12:52
Jessica_Lilyhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/langpack-locales/+bug/831976 <-- like that?12:59
dpmJessica_Lily, exactly like that :) - for extra points, you can add a watch to the upstream bug: you can simply click on the "Also affects project" link and follow the instructions there13:03
Jessica_Lilyahhh13:04
Jessica_Lilythats cool13:04
Jessica_Lilydpm how long do you think that'll take?13:06
dpmJessica_Lily, honestly, I cannot say, it depends on how busy the developers are13:07
dpmso it might be a few day or a few weeks13:07
Jessica_Lilyahh okay13:08
dpmand it depends as well whether the locale def needs any tweaking13:08
dpmyou can always try to talk to the maintainers directly on IRC13:09
Jessica_LilyxD13:10
Jessica_Lilydpm how can i do that?13:10
Jessica_Lilydpm how did you say i could speed up the totem renaming bug15:12
Jessica_Lily"Movie Player" -> "Film Player"15:12
dpmJessica_Lily, I was suggesting to get in touch with the British English translators through their mailing list15:16
dpmhttps://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-en-gb15:16
Jessica_LilyI just send an email to the email listed there15:20
* Jessica_Lily doesn't use mailing lists15:21
Jessica_Lilydpm what do i say to them?15:26
dpmJessica_Lily, just mention the bug, asking what they think about your proposal, which hopefully should spark a discussion in which they change the translation or agree that the current one is good enough15:33
Jessica_Lilyokay!15:33
Jessica_Lily:D15:33
dpm:-)15:34
