[11:56] hi, can't get my breakout box to work with studio ubuntu. [11:56] It has firewires [12:02] help me. if i can't get it to work, i will be executed. [12:03] Uhh ohh... that can't be good. [12:03] i am from north korea [12:03] Oh well that explains it. [12:04] So the system isn't recognizing the firewire device? [12:04] it recognises it [12:04] but seems like i don't know how to use the jack server perhaps? [12:05] Okay, please explain the actual problem, then. [12:05] in xp, i can tell the sound manager to use the breakout box and whatever audio application I use (VLC, web broswer etc....) the audio will out from the breakout box [12:06] but in Ubuntu, if the browser or any media player is sending sound, there is nothing coming out of the breakout box [12:07] Have you taken a look at this page yet? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToJACKConfiguration [12:08] yes, i have been through it [12:09] and the breakout box i'm using is the FA-66 which i purchased especially because it is said to be compatible with linux [12:10] Okay. [12:10] I don't really have that much experience in troubleshooting these things, so would you feel this page overwhelming? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure [12:12] Thats really, great.... how did you find that? (i mean, which search terms did you use?). [12:13] I'll do it later... I'm in the middle of a process in XP right now... thanks Astraljava... [12:14] I just search for "ubuntu sound troubleshoot" whenever I have problems. :) [12:15] aaaah.... good [12:15] thanks again [12:15] I hate to say this, but this channel is sometimes a bit slow. [12:15] maybe see you later [12:15] oh... thats ok [12:15] You could try #opensourcemusicians [12:15] it's not really urgent [12:15] ...if no further help can be found here. :) [12:15] i think my family will be sent for execution 1st [12:15] i can survive another day.... [12:15] Oh that's good, I guess. [12:16] north korea thanks you [12:16] 88 [12:16] :D [15:29] does numark omni control work under ubuntu? [15:30] kubanc: do you have one? [15:31] holstein, yes i have one [15:31] i dont see them listed at http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Main [15:31] kubanc: i would get a live CD [15:31] http://www.numark.com/omnicontrol [15:31] * holstein is assuming you are not running ubuntu.. [15:31] plug it in, and check it out [15:31] holstein, yes, i'm running ubuntu [15:32] OH... well, plug it in... [15:32] kubanc: USB ? [15:32] if i plug in in, the lsusb doesn't show it [15:32] kubanc: thats not a good sign [15:32] i agree [15:32] :D [15:33] http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1408313 [15:33] kubanc: what versions of ubuntu have you tried? [15:33] i would try a 10.04 live CD [15:33] *no need to install ubuntustudio natively to test [15:33] ubuntu 10.10 [15:33] just use the live CD's, and run lsusb [15:33] then... [15:34] aplay -l [15:34] and/or [15:34] arecord -l [15:34] that should tell you what you need to know [15:34] OH... kubanc i need to run [15:34] see #opensourcemusicians if you want :) [15:34] good luck [22:58] hello dudes and stuff [22:58] if i update to ubuntustudio nattism do i have gnome2? [22:59] i get mad with gnome3/unity, because this is kindergarten toy [23:00] so how can i upgrade to ubuntu-studio from maverick? to natty? [23:06] dude: studio never went with unity, so no fear. [23:07] Just open update-manager, it should prompt for a new release upgrade.
