mecklenI have an old Compaq Presario 2200 that I'm running xubuntu 11.04 on.  I would like to use the 5 "custom" buttons at the top of the keyboard, but cannot determine the proper keyboard layout.  I've googled, but come up empty so far.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to determine the keyboard layout?  Thanks in advance.00:54
Ain_Can anyone help me find drivers for some hardware for 11.04?02:25
philipballewAin_, what hardware?02:32
Ain_It's volume controls for an HP Touchsmart IQ526.02:34
Ain_I'm not sure where to find them.02:34
Ain_The HP site says to find them elsewhere for Linux. :(02:35
philipballewwhat did google say?02:37
Ain_Brought me to "Will this run Linux" threads for everything but the model I want. >.<02:39
philipballewim not sure, but if its a driver you need it might be in the kernal somewhere02:42
Ain_Then it should work just fine from install, right?02:42
philipballewwell unless your computer is newww like super new or they just dont have a driver for it02:43
Ain_It was running Vista before, and it's at least 2 years old.02:43
philipballewyou can probably do it manually02:46
Ain_I don't know how. I'm rather new to it, and I don't have the computer with me to actually play around. I set it up on my friends computer.02:47
philipballewhum. well then... not sure02:55
Ain_Damn. HP has a link to kernel.org, but I think the domain isn't registered.02:56
Picikernel.org is down due to being comprimised recently.03:00
Ain_Ah.03:01
Ain_Maybe I'll just wait for it to come back up.03:01

FenixdeuxHi. Big thanks for great OS10:56
FenixdeuxI've installed Compiz and CompizConfig but when from the mouse-menu I hover over Compiz-Config and click it nothing apparently happens10:56
FenixdeuxI think I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling but to no avail10:56
Fenixdeuxso somewhere is a bug but I dunno where10:56
cYmenhm...how does samba browsing work and how do I do it from a shell? Does anybody know?10:58
knomecYmen, check out smbfs10:59
cYmenknome: I know how to mount stuff I can't figure out how to browse though...10:59
SysiFenixdeux: what if you try to run if from terminal?11:00
knomecYmen, how did you mount it then?11:00
FenixdeuxSysi: I'll try that11:00
cYmenwell if you know the host and everything you can just do it11:00
cYmenbut I want to an overview of the network just like in the gui tools11:00
FenixdeuxSysi: "CompizConfig command not found"11:01
Fenixdeuxwhere do the installed binaries reside in ?11:01
FenixdeuxI think it's not in the path11:01
FenixdeuxSysi: when I run 'compiz --help' I get compiz: error while loading shared libraries: libglibmm-2.4.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory11:03
Fenixdeuxso must be that the CompizConfig is unable to start because compiz itself does not start11:03
SysiFenixdeux: IDK about that but use tabcompletin, type compi and press tab twice11:05
Fenixdeux'k11:05
Fenixdeuxgives 'compiz' and 'compiz-decorator'11:06
Sysihum, how about ccsm?11:06
Fenixdeuxcompiz: error while loading shared libraries: libglibmm-2.4.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory'11:07
Fenixdeuxccsm exits with that11:08
FenixdeuxI unsinstall and reinstall compiz11:09
=== jubo is now known as Fenixdeux
FenixdeuxSysi: I removed and readded a few libraries and now CompizConfig works but 'compiz --replace' complains "Found no decorator to start" what do I do now ?11:47
Sysienable window decorations plugin and find suitable decorator for it11:48
Sysicompiz-decorator or gtk-window-decorator might work11:49

Sysithey should be in right side by default.. using compiz?12:34
Jontynot knowingly12:34
Jontyweird...if i select Window Manager directly from the menu, nothing happens, and if i do it from the settings manager i just get a blank screen12:35
Jontyis there a command for it so i can see if it gives any error?12:35
Sysifirst try alt+F2 "xfwm4 --replace"12:35

Sysithere's tap on logout window12:38

und3fThermi, no, i didn't modified anything. Just installed and tried to start it13:35
TheSheepund3f: did you use sudo?13:35
und3fTheSheep, yes13:35
TheSheeptry 'sudo /etc/init.d/mysql-server restart'13:36
TheSheep(it should do the same thing as service mysql start'13:36
und3fTheSheep, i tried it before service command. And it told me to use service. Also result is the same13:39
TheSheepund3f: no idea what might be the problem, you can try googling or searching the forums13:47
TheSheepund3f: or asking at #ubuntu, that part is common anyways13:48

charlie-tcaIf Xubuntu without the usb drive plugged in, you need to change cmos settings to tell it boot the hard drive first20:22
maryfivehow to change cmos ?20:23
charlie-tcaThat I do not know for the computer. Each one is different. Maybe hit del or ins or F2 or F10 on starting the computer20:24
charlie-tcabut the easy way is to just not have the usb drive plugged in when starting. USB drives can be plugged in after Xubuntu starts20:25
maryfiveok i see, the cmos is where we can set the HD and the time of PC ...20:26
maryfivefor my pc it is F1020:27
maryfiveYes, i can plug usb mouse after, but to start i have to launch the mode without echec20:28
maryfiveand press echap regularly to have the blue screen20:29

Myrttido you know how to use the terminal?20:33
maryfivei can launch terminal20:33
maryfivei use sudo ...20:33
Myrttiif you type into it "lshw -C display" that should show it. you can copy the text over to http://paste.ubuntu.com and give us a link so we can see it20:34
maryfiveon terminal i see ùy name and : Presario-R3200-PJ850EA-ABF = the model ofmy pc20:35
maryfive description: VGA compatible controller20:36

Myrttiso you've got Geforce 4 420 then20:39
maryfivei would say that after start Xubuntu, my PC work good. it's that start that is difficult and not sure20:48
maryfivedo i change the grub21:01
maryfiveby using "e"21:02
charlie-tcafor one boot, yes21:06
charlie-tcaTo change it for every boot, boot to the desktop, then edit /etc/default/grub21:06
maryfivei  use paste.ubuntu.com21:12
maryfiveyou can see my grub21:12
maryfiveand what i can change ?21:12
charlie-tcaWhat are you trying to make happen?21:15
charlie-tcaalso, when you use paste.ubuntu.com, it gives you a new page. You have to copy and paste the URL here for us to see it21:16
maryfivehttp://paste.ubuntu.com/685588/21:17
charlie-tcaI see it. Now, what do you need it to do?21:18
charlie-tcaTo give messages in text when booting, just remove the quiet splash from between the quotes on line 11. Then it should tell you what it is doing all the time, instead of a pretty screen.21:19
maryfivei think that it do a start without blocking on black screen21:20
maryfiveok i do it, 'update-grub and i restart my pc, thank's21:23
maryfivei'll give news as soon as I find where it blocks21:24
