hakermaniaHello guys, if a desktop file has as icon a very large image e.g. 2MB one it goes extremely slowly. Would it be a good idea to scale the image or it's a unity bug?08:59
czajkowskimorning09:51
czajkowskiI have one annoying unity bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/84690309:51
ubot5Ubuntu bug 846903 in unity (Ubuntu) "Freezing of alt tab menu bar display" [Undecided,New]09:51
htorqueczajkowski: you mean "upgraded _from_ natty", right? and: if that happens, can you still cycle through applications using alt+tab or is the desktop really frozen (frozen vs. stuck)? also, if you call the thing "alt tab switcher" it will be easier to understand. :-)10:36
ephanWhat is "Multi-Range" on Unity?10:52

ephanhey Andy8010:59
Andy80hi ephan :)11:00
ephanbtw, I'm wondering if you know what "Multi-range" is on Unity?11:01
Andy80ephan: no, sorry :\11:07
htorqueephan: hm, from the changelog it sounds like that's something in the dash filters? maybe the size "multi-range" in the files lens?11:08
ephanAndy80, thanks. htorque, maybe "Multi-range" is a filter11:08
ephanIn that case, my translation is ok. thanks!11:09

czajkowskihtorque: sorry for not getting the right lingo! but yes I had upgrated from natty, and no I cannot get to any of the applications when that happens16:04
htorqueczajkowski: ok, sounds pretty bad. :( unfortunately i cannot reproduce this, but i've taken the liberty to fix the terminology in your bug.16:18
czajkowskihtorque: thanks16:19
czajkowskihtorque: I mentioned t a few days ago and someone else said they;d had similar but it's takena few days to get apport to get working again for me to log the bug :/16:19
czajkowskiit's one really annoying bug and it doesn't depend on amount or types of applications running16:19
czajkowskihtorque: thanks for trying though16:20
htorqueinstead of rebooting you could do: alt+f1 to go to a tty, log in, run: (unity &), alt+f7 to go back to the session.16:20
htorqueher might or might not be problems with click-through windows afterwards, but at least you should be able to save any unsaved work.16:21
htorque*there16:22
czajkowskihtorque: will try that the next time but even holding down power button to bring up options to restart shut down wont work so have to hold it down to forcefuly power down16:35
htorqueczajkowski:  that's the worst way to reboot, you should only do that if the system has completely frozen. if you need to reboot, try SysRq + REISUB first: https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key16:42
czajkowskihtorque: it's the only way, the system won't let me do anyting else16:44
AlanBelldoes the ctrl+alt+prtscr reisub thing actually do anything better than holding down the power button if you have a journalling file system?17:17
htorqueAlanBell: i'd say the sync part is a big pro as it forces a commit, but then: filesystem stuff is definitely not my area of expertise. :-)17:30
AlanBellgenerally I would have thought the time spent swearing at the frozen computer would have been enough for any lingering commits of importance to be written to the disk17:31
